brutality of nature

ooc: this thread is MANDATORY for all pack members unless you have signed up as a straggler in this thread, or your character is out of the pack during the hurricane! Shop 3 is located here, and is large enough to contain the entire pack at once.

The inkling she had had before, looking at the swaying treetops, had not been wrong. The weather was much worse, now - trees were almost horizontal on the street, with debris flying around everywhere in the small town. The winds were howling loudly, but not too loudly - Skye knew what she had to do to protect her pack, not from enemies with spears or teeth or claws, but from the brutal forces of nature.

She tilted her head upwards, attempting to ignore the sting of the wind, and howled - the howl transcended the wind's sound, echoing through the packlands, calling her pack to her, to safety. She howled and howled, standing at the empty shop, hoping soon that her members would come to her. She did worry for those who were outside of the packlands - but she could not go search for them, not now. Later, yes - but now, her priority was for those within the lands to get to safety.

She howled until her throat was sore, and then she still yet howled, so that those who may be lost in the coming storm would be able to find her voice and find their way back home to Thornbury and to safety.

The snarling winds and ominous clouds sent her into another fit of anxiety. She was now shedding more fur at an alarming rate, patches of skin were showing and instead of their usual light grey color they were a sick looking pale shade. She thinned even more, something she didn't think was possible and spent several hours pacing back and forth whilst frothing at the mouth and rolling her eyes wildly. She shook and whined, why did this have to happen now. Again she looked out at the rolling black clouds and whimpered, Keldava was out somewhere in this mess, the storm that was threatening to destroy their homes.

Then the howling started, at first she ignored it, willing herself to pay no attention. But the longer it went on the less she could not not hear it. She tried to cover her ears with her paws to no avail, it pierced even there. Eventually she had to give in, her feeble weakness no match for it's strength, the Captina would not be ignored. Temo followed her, ushering their children behind her, she had made them all come, not wanting to separate them up more even though they struggled to walk in the wind, Temo's body providing some barrier for them.

As she approached the Captina she crouched down and shuffled forwards on her belly with her ears pinned back in the manner befitting an omega, a Scoundrel. It wasn't her voice that spoke, shaking with such hopelessness and fatigue,

"I w..want to stay in my h..home. D..don't make me l..leave it." She was scared, scared of facing the pack after what she had done, all of them would know and all of them would judge her on her actions. All of them would hate her, she was the worst of the worst, a vile creature to be reviled and spat on.

She looked at the shop, glad to see her pups still by the window; they never left her sight, but were safe from the stinging winds. She looked down, seeing Jace now on the floor, with her pups behind her, and Temo coming after. She heard Jace, but the words barely registered; she yanked open the door of the shop, silently pointing inside; she did not care what protests Jace had now. She was an omega, and was in no position to disobey Skye - and she knew that once Jace and her pups were safe inside, Temo would follow.

Don't harm your pups any more than you already have, she thought, but did not say anything. Leaving the door to the shop open, she attempted to rush Temo, Jace, and her weakened and small pups inside. She took in how much fur Jace had lost, and made sure to make her eat something once the pack was safely inside. Once more, she lifted her head and let out a loud and long howl.

Such is the instinct of a denning mother to want to stay where she whelped her offspring. Her pleas however fell upon death ears and Skye fixed her with a cold silent stare that made the woman avert her eyes. Her actions were similarly without sound as she shoved the door open and pointed inside and set about trying to harry the family inside. She resisted for a moment only before allowing the Captina to bully her into the workshop, immediately commandeering a corner of the space for her own.

She huddled her children and Temo into the corner she had chosen and stared around the empty room wildly, backed up as far as she could go against the wall, fear and stress staining her face and eyes. The woman was a wreck. With at least a third of her body weight depleted she was the picture of starvation, her fur was falling out in clumps, she shook. This was all becoming too much for her. Not long after Jace and Tem had arrived Pandora also trotted past Skye, nodding to the Alpha and making her way over to her family, offering what warmth and support she could to the shaking and fearful family members.

Adrian had heard the howl. He had felt the coming danger in his bones. And he had gathered his instruments and set off. The town square was just down the road from the area Adrian had heard the call come from. He had his guitar, his flute, which he kept close since learning that it once belonged to a leader of the pack, and his recorder which he was almost never without. With all things that Adrian cared about, he headed out the door of his house and down the steps. He glanced back at the stone house, hoping that it would remain undamaged and that it would survive the coming danger. It was then that he heard the second howl and made to hurry along.

Adrian was careful not to get his direction mixed up but the wind was really the only sign of what was going to happen. When he arrived at the shop he nodded, to Skye, "What is happening Skye?" He asked, yelling over the wind, worried about the pack. He looked inside the shop, noticing that Jace and Temo were inside with their younger pups. The only reason he knew their names was because he had heard about them in passing. Itzal walked inside the shop but stayed near the door so he could hear Skye's response.

OOC:// Hello everyone! Smile Sorry this is long. X3 NOTE: By having Kenna set Dust free in this stage of the plot, it sets her up for later in the repair thread to go find him.

BIC:// The past day or two the weather had been slowly growing more fierce. It had been almost constant rolling thunder and flashes of lightning, gusting winds and intermittent showers. Today the storm had reached a peak it seemed, for the winds now howled and threatened to destroy the lands it whipped through. Trees bent, creaked and swayed, debris and leaf-litter rolled and skipped across the ground or got forcefully lifted up and sucked away into the heavens. The ocean rolled violently and frothed at the shore like a rabid animal, it's breaking waves could be heard crashing in the distance. Kenna could sense the almost electrical charge in the air as she hurried into Thornbury, holding her hat firmly upon her head and swiftly tugging her horse Dust along by his reins. A familiar, anxious howl rose to her ears faintly deeper into the little town. It was Skye. She was calling the pack to her to take shelter in one of the shops. Kenna would join her as soon as she'd taken care of the stallion.

Dust trotted along nervously, his ears flicking this way and that. He gave yet another frightened whinny, rearing slightly onto his rear legs as his companion lead him towards the stables he'd come to call home. Kenna quickly hauled on the horse's reins and tried to soothe him with her voice, but the wind ripped any sound she made from her lips as if she'd not uttered a word. Another urgent howl barely reached the woman's ears but was none the less acknowledged. Squinting against the particulate matter in the air, Kenna fought the winds that tugged and pushed her in every direction and made every attempt to sweep her (and her hat) away. Her long hair lashed at her face as she turned Dust towards the stables. As she started to lead him into the stable doors, he balked before she could get him inside and she noticed the whole structure seemed to be slightly swaying in the gusts and she could hear other animals within vocalizing their fear. Dust echoed a call from another horse inside and pawed at the ground, dancing nervously side to side as Kenna debated. Frowning, she turned to her mount and with expert movements unbuckled and untied the horse from his tack, simply letting it drop to the ground before taking Dust's head in her paws and looking him in the eyes. She stroked his nose and hugged him with a few words, urging him to be safe, before releasing him, stepping back and clapping him on the haunches. "Go Dust! Go!" She shouted over the howling winds and the stallion turned and fled with a loud neigh, heading back out of Thornbury and into the forest seeking his own form of shelter.

With her heart wrenching with worry (not for herself, but for her beloved horse), Kenna disregarded the fallen tack where it lay just off to the side of the stable entrance and took off in the direction of the continuing howls. Catching a glimpse of another pack mate ducking into the large shop and spying Skye in the doorway, Kenna ducked her head and ran over to join those sheltering within the building. Just as she reached the doorway, nodding to the leader, a loud crack sounded as a tree in the forest lost a branch to the savage gale. Not even looking back at the sound, Kenna hurried inside. Once safe, she looked up, relinquishing her death grip on her stetson and sighed, looking around at those already gathered. Her ears folded slightly as she realized she still didn't know many faces. She'd only seen them in passing but never truly met. She gave a slight nod to each of them before crossing slowly over to the window to watch the storm progress (it was the worst she'd seen), but staying far enough back from the panes for fear of them blowing in. All there was to do now, was hunker down and wait. As she turned and made her way to the back of the shop, removing her hat and smoothing her tousled hair back off her face, she leaned against the back wall, regarding her pack mates awkwardly, unsure of how to approach them. If anything, now would be her chance to socialize...but what should she say?

The clouds rushed by overhead like a herd of angry horses and the tree tops danced a mad dance as the wind whipped through them. There was tension in the air along with the wind and the detritus that the wind stirred up. The wind had Jace in a state of worry and concern and they were holed up in the empty shop building that was next to his workshop.

Temo was worried, but not of the storm, he worried about Jace and if she would be ok as he sat there with her and their brood. He watched as others arrived and proceeded into the shop and then locate a spot to occupy for the duration. As they entered, he recognized some and others he did not know. There were even a few that he had not seen before wandering around the town or at a function and wondered if they were new.

Skye was satisfied to see Jace not argue with her, rather going inside the shop as instructed; there, at least, her and her family would be safe. She looked out into the wind, raising her hand to shield her eyes from the stinging droplets of water being fired at her face, attempting to see any more faint shadows of members coming to take shelter in the shop.

Soon enough, she could scent a stronger scent of d'Artisan wolves coming, and could see Kenna and Adrian emerging from the thick foggy air. Kenna ran inside after a large tree's snapping could be heard, and Skye flattened her ears, not joyful of the sound. Adrian went inside, as well, but not before asking Skye what was going on.

"A powerful storm," she yelled over the howling of the wind. "It's the biggest one I've ever seen. Stay inside - I have to call the others!" The sooner that the door was closed, the safer it would be inside the stone shop. She closed the door with much effort - she had to fight against the wind, but soon enough, it was closed fully. She squinted into the town, wondering who was coming and who needed to be rescued.

His phase of hurting himself physcially hadn't ended yet. In fact, it had grown. He craved the painful cuts even more now, he welcomed the stinging pain that came with each scrape of his sharp nails. He restrained himself for now though, there was no time for it. There was a storm moving in and he needed to get with the rest of the pack members.

He found Skye and Jace and Temo and Adrian.. As well as someone he didn't know. He nodded his head to Adrian as he moved closer to Jace. He smiled softly at her and then smiled at Temo too. He looked at the both of them, a small frown on his face, "This storm remind you of anything?" His thoughts traveled back to the snow storm that had hit while he was in Phoenix Valley. He had been buried under Eagle Tower and Jace had saved his life. That's when he was transfered the Luperci virus. He had been upset then, but now he was so happy that it had been transfered, it completely changed his life.

Now in truth, this was not the worst storm Roselle had ever experienced. She had been caught in one en route across the ocean and petrified that destiny might send her to a watery grave. When that had proven not to be the case she had moved on, though with a more fatalistic view on life. If she could die at any moment, what did it matter that her heart had been broken? It strengthened her resolve and gave her courage, something she found herself needing often on dark nights.

The trees had told her everything long before the storm hit, but she had to prepare her home so that the treasures within were not destroyed. It wasn’t until the last window was forced closed that she grabbed a thick traveling cloak (a massive reindeer pelt she had modified to fit her slight form) and pulled it over her head. The thick fur around her head helped muffle the howling gale but dulled her senses. Squinting against the rain, she hurried towards Skye’s voice.

Roselle was not the first to arrive and once in looked at the meager group with worry apparent in her crystalline gaze. When her eyes fell to Jace they hardened, but this was gone as soon as she saw the children. Still alive, though oh how could they be healthy with the woman looking as she did? Instead she turned to Skye, long hair spilling out from under her rain-drenched cloak. “Vee should make a fire,” she said, and shivered as another tree let forth a mighty CRACK somewhere nearby.
