Silence wrapped slender arms around the young Lykoi and pulled her along into a realm where anything but the quiet was unnecessary, a realm into which she slipped with ease, while she walked beside her aunt. Of course, she knew very little about Corona, and didn't know she had really been anywhere important, but had it been brought up she probably wouldn't have liked the idea of going overseas. The thought of going far from Inferni, anywhere where she would be at least a day from home, was terrifying enough to keep her feet firmly planted there, let alone if she got on a boat and went hundreds of miles away.

She couldn't imagine finding bows in a place like the mansion. On a few occasions before she had stupidly made the journey to Dahlia, she had wandered around the place a little bit, but hadn't strayed far from the main passages where she could find her way out. Even by stepping in, it was clearly a maze of wood and metal, and she certainly didn't want to find herself in the belly of a beast created by man. Ever. She had to put some faith in her aunt, however, and did; the mention of the piano woke her from her shadow-coated stillness. Her ears moved up at the question, and a broad little smile — broad, but only in description, because it would have been small for pre-Andre Talitha — and she felt the tug that told her to bound ahead into the mansion.

She resisted; it was quite easy compared to how it once would have been. Do you know how? Even if she didn't, it didn't matter much; she'd love to press the keys of such a majestic instrument, even just once.

_____The talk of music seemed to lift her spirits, which ultimately left Corona wishing that she knew more about the subject. Though her father was quite a violin player, she had never really dabbled much in the way of music. It had intrigued her a number of times, but had always been pushed to the side in favour of something more. “Only a little bit. I mostly know where to put my hands on the keys and how to play simple songs,” she commented as they started up the walkway towards the towering structure. So in short, Corona was no skilled musician, but at least she had a bit of a start on it.

_____Pulling the heavy door to the mansion open, she slipped inside, only then letting her grasp on Talitha's hand go. Of all of the places, a closed-in structure seemed to be safest in the back of her mind. Though if any wolves were going to come through Inferni, they'd have a hard enough time getting to the mansion, as far as she was concerned. Corona could only imagine how many sets of eyes would be watching the territory within their own walls. Letting out a deep breath as her eyes adjusted to the dim light, Corona offered another smile. “The piano is in up the hallway in a room on the right,” she said, starting to head off in that direction.

Even the simple things would help. The girl followed almost helplessly, unable to think about returning to the mansion herself. She had done so before, but now that life had taken a totally different turn, the scrawny and starving Lykoi wasn't likely to go very far by herself. Andre could be hiding behind every rock, no matter the size, or in the very shadows of her heart. She pulled those doubts away from the outside world, shoving them haphazardly into a crevice in her mind where they could fester, unfed by others but by her own mind, and edge toward the mansion door.

When Corona let go of her hand, she reluctantly let it fall to her side. The mansion had once been a comforting place, and the Lykoi had found the clothes that had been robbed from her by the monster here, but now it looked like a labyrinth the moment she stepped in. It was unfamiliar and dark; sadly, she was led blindly. She followed the golden angel with twitching, jumpy ears and a hesitant heart, but she knew the piano would calm her down.

And learning to play it was still fantastic.

_____Upon reaching the room that she remembered the piano being in, Corona pushed the half-closed door open and wandered in, finding the upright piano at its place against the wall. The dust that was on it proved that it hadn't been played for quite some time, but for the most part it was very well taken care of. The keys still retained their ivory and she assumed also still retain their delightful sound. She pulled the seat out for Talitha, looking for her in the dim light and offering up a smile to her.

_____“The white keys play your notes, and the black ones are what they call sharp keys. They play the same note as the key to its left, but it's at a higher pitch,” hence the sharp sound to it, she supposed. Once Talitha had seated herself, Corona moved along to explain more of what she knew. “To start playing, you put your hands here,” at which point she demonstrated, “and then you basically push the keys. But if you do them in order, from your left hand to your right, you'll see that they go up in pitch.”

She was a child; even at her age, it was still quite evident. Her hands were smaller than Corona's as she placed them on the vast surface of the keyboard, and she felt timid, even dwarfed, by the magnificent instrument. She almost felt as if it was too holy for her to be placing grimy, frail hands on, but the sound that piped out of it when she tentatively lowered one finger against a white key was unmistakably the most beautiful thing the Lykoi had ever heard.

She pressed them slowly, in the sequence that Corona had instructed, letting her fingers move as fluidly as possible. The deep, melodic sound slowly increased into a high octave, but only until her last finger stroked a key. The sound reverberated as it slowly died, and she turned toward her aunt expectantly.

Why are there sharp notes if all the notes are already different?

_____“Well, sometimes when you're playing a song, it doesn't sound right if you go up a full pitch to the next note… a sharp is like a half-step between. Here, listen,” she said, hitting one note and then hitting the octave higher to first show their difference. Then she went back to the first note and pushed the key, this time moving on to hit the black key in the middle before the next white one, expressing the difference and the carried sound easily. “See? It fits between those two notes, it stands out, so it's sharp.” Truthfully, she wished she could have better explained the finer workings of the piano to her niece, but she thought that even what little she knew and could share would inspire her all the same. Perhaps the mansion would ring with music one day; talent ran deep in the de le Poer veins that they shared one way or another, as well as the Lykoi's.

She nodded her head at the different sounds, sensitive ears lifting to the different pitches. Yes, that sounded different than the first; she reached her fingers out instinctively, but held herself in check and finally curled them back into her palm to let the hand drop. Her hands, big now, turned to request of Corona the one thing her aunt could give her; the ability, the sequence, to play more than just a note or two. She didn't hold her gaze there long without word, however; Can you show me how to play something? A song... If you know any?

“Of course,” Corona said, once again reaching over Talitha so that her hands met the keys. It was from there that she picked one of the only songs she knew, and though she missed a note here or there, it was easy enough to pass onto Gabriel's daughter. From there on out, she stayed with Talitha so she could practice it, glad to give her a little bit of a sanctum from the tragedy that had been incurred to her.
