Terra

Word Count → 000 :: Out of Character text.

The storm continued on unrelenting, Terra staying as close as she could to her pups. Whines poured from them, as unhappy about the weather as she was. Or they could just be picking up her extremely crabby mood, stuck in her corner and refusing to leave even for the temptation of food. She wanted this storm over with already, and the chance to leave and head out. If she couldn't leave soon things were bound to get much worse. The storm had already been raging for a few days.

Bending her head she licked at her pups, the cries tearing at her heart. How could she calm them? Thinking about it Terra hummed softly, hoping the noise would calm them down some. It didn't work, her frame still as tense as ever through their cries. She was ready to break at that point, hating the storm and the fear it instilled in her. Strel was dead, and she was trapped in a dangerous building on the verge of collapsing. There was no way to escape. Why didn't it end already?

Kable Catori

OOC → WC::400+ Hope you don’t mind if I stalk youSmile Your thread fell in line with one I was going to start.

It seemed like the weather worsened by the day. The ominous change in the air and the darkening skies came a day or two before, and that very night the rain began. Kable spent the last couple nights in the shop nearby his home that he and Skoll raided. He didn’t want to leave his home; its foundation was a little questionable even before the storm began. The male left the shop to go check on the Inn. What he found was a sight that made it feel as though his heart sank into the depths of his chest. The building he’d done so much work to make better collapsed into the ocean over night by the efforts of pouring rain and devastating wind. Damn it! He fell to his knees and punched the ground. No one would hear him yell.

The seigneur knew he needed to find shelter, and no building in Lunenburg would protect him from Mother Nature’s wraith. Quickly as he could he made his way for the Chien Hotel. The damage that had already been done was significant, some trees had fallen down, many windows were broken and small weak structures taken out. Using his forearm to shield his face he pushed onward, unable tell if he were crying or if it was just the rain splashing him in the face. He struggled to get where he was and hadn’t made it to his destination yet. Realization of the potential danger didn’t fully set in until he was hit by piece of debris. The small piece of broken wood may have been otherwise harmless if it weren’t for the whipping wind. Blood flowed from the large open gash on his left arm.

Kable was bleeding, cold and tired, he felt like he was unable to make it to the hotel. Or maybe life seemed so hopeless that he didn’t want the protection from this hurricane. He leaned against the shanty building’s wall, slumping to the ground he closed his eyes. His mother was dead and his house was gone. What did he have left? What was left of his family, and a pack being torn apart by nature? The way he saw it was bleak at best. No one in the court needed him, he would only be in their way. His breathing was shallow and soft, he was ready to let go and give up. The husky male’s eyes went wide upon hearing the cries of pups. He’d gotten up to peer through one of the windows. The coyote woman had been holed up with her children. Terra! He called struggling to open the door against the wind and stagger in. She has kids, why is she out here? It was too dangerous to be out.

The cry of another canine caught her attention. Lifting her head she looked around furtively, wondering who was calling for her attention. There was no one there initially, Terra baring her fangs against the storm before settling in to lick at her pups once more. The banging of the door threatened her, afraid that it was the storm about to collapse the building. Leaping up she crouched over her pups. If only there was someone else there that she could rely on. That way if the building did collapse on them someone would be able to save her pups.

When it broke open a feral monster was revealed within, hackles fully raised. She'd changed to secui form for it's heavier weight, and snarled at everything that came near. The cries of her pups had heightened with the door opened and the storm streaming in. She could feel the flecks of water coming around and splattering over everything. When she focused on who was there she tilted her head in confusion. Kable? What was he doing out here? Terra had gotten trapped, but why was he wandering around?

Kable Catori

WC::OCC →

Kable fought to open the door against the force of the wind. Lightning flashed behind him illuminating the immediate room. A frightful sight of Terra stood there protecting her pups from some possible threat, though he certainly was no threat. The door slammed shut behind him. Terra what are you doing here?! His voice had been a bit stern, filled with worry. Not that he should be out here either but at least he had no children to care for. She should have been staying with somebody, probably in a more stable building than this. Problem was the hurricane was already in effect, they weren’t close enough to the hotel or another building. With the pups it would be a bad idea to up and change shelter.

They were pretty well stuck with one another for the time being. The wind continued to rage and the rain pelted the roof unrelenting. He picked one of the walls to lean against and sat down. Taking a couple deep slow breaths he tried to calm himself down. Looking and the red colored woman he realized he probably asked the wrong question first. Are you alright? I mean you and the kids? The husky male grabbed the gash on his arm trying to stop the ache he felt from it. The open wound still bled, though not as much as before as it wasn’t getting wet any more. That’s quite the storm don’t you think. He attempted to make mild chitchat hoping to keep spirits up but fell quiet again when he figured he was making things worse.

Sounds like we both have more sense than it appears. A low chuckle slipped from her, hearing the questioning in his voice. They both knew that it was a dangerous spot, and heading out in the hurricane was ridiculous. Yet there they were. Terra crouched back down now that she knew it wasn't the building collapsing on her, using her tongue to stroke across her pups' heads. Loki quieted down, pressing into her leg as she stood. Terra wasn't quite ready to rest herself and put the danger that was out there to the side.

We're unhurt. Better than the hotel. Strel had left Terra with the unwavering conviction that the hotel was going to collapse, so she hadn't sought refuge there as many pack members had. It would have been nice to have the company though, and share the fear with someone. She untangled from her pups, stiffly moving away from them. It was a short distance between them, but it felt longer, wanting to turn back to snuggle back down between her pups. You're bleeding. She sniffed at the wound, reaching to try and lick it clean.

Kable Catori

It didn’t seem like they had too much sense in all actuality, especially where Kable was concerned. If the weather weren’t so bad he would probably still be in his home and more than likely in the ocean along with the inn. The male watched as Terra comforted her pups, they were calm and quiet in comparison to when he first arrived. She wasn’t wrong; they were pretty well okay considering the circumstances. He hadn’t made it to the hotel and she was the first person he’d seen since everything began.

The woman left her children to approach him, the Baroness pointed out the fact that he was bleeding. Oh this, yeah. He almost forgot all about getting hit by the flying debris. It happened so fast that he really didn’t see it anyway. The Catori winced from the stinging sensation he could feel as she cleaned it for him. He wouldn’t make a protest though; it was nice that she cared even though he thought the kids could use her attention more. Thank you. He was feeling down, it sucked that he lost his home. Ayita was gone, Terra knew that too. At least the pack members were still there. Kable still had Amaranth and the rest of his family to love, be with and care for. That was all he needed really, only a glimmer of light to look to in his moment of darkness.

The woman’s pups whined for her presence. Looking at her he was amazed, she seemed so brave and strong, much more than he. It dawned on the seigneur that he had never met her children before, he knew nothing about them. What are their names, if you don’t mind me asking?

He stayed still as her tongue gently picked out any dirt that had gotten in there and made sure that the wound was alright. Hopefully it would heal without scarring. It didn't look too deep, but she was no medic. Liam would have to help with it. Flashing him a smile she retreated back to her pups, summoned easily by their cries. Ananse had even taken a hesitant step forwards out of the corner. Ferociously she drove him back into it and settled down. They had to stay where they were. If they moved away from her they might get hurt.

The pups cried even louder at the sudden ferocious show from their mother. Terra just laid down and watched them, occasionally nuzzling them to get them to quiet down. They did eventually, but it took longer than she'd thought it might. Lifting her head she looked back to Kable. Ananse is the brown one with my markings, and Loki is his brother. She was proud of the names she had chosen for them, with the powerful tales they came with. It would hopefully give them luck and protection.

After cleaning the gash on his arm Terra had gone back to her Pups. She told him their names as she snuggled close to them. Ananse had been the brown one who resembled her more and the other was Loki. Those are nice names. They were cute kids, still young and in need of nurturing. It wouldn’t be long before they would grow up before her very eyes. She would wonder where the time went.

The storm continued to rage on outside the building’s exterior, showing no signs of stopping or slowing. A depressed Kable was distracted from the howling wind by a drop of water that hit his muzzle. One drop turned into several more, the roof was leaking more than it was. The Catori male turned his head up to the flow of water, welcoming the splash. The weather was a scary sight, thunder, lightning rain and wind. The combination created for a frightening sensory experience that raised his hackles.

Seemingly out of nowhere the shutter off the window of another building came through the glass of the east wall. The sound of the smashing window panes made the male jump. He couldn’t calm himself anymore; he remained in a state of alertness as rain and wind bored through broken window. Were they safe here if things were going to be blown into the building like that? They really shouldn’t leave unless the building would come down; otherwise it would be smart to stay put and wait it out. It dawned on him that they wouldn’t truly be safe until this storm was over.

Terra nodded her head, eyes glinting with pride. The cries of the pups started up again, and the fear threatened to press in. She didn't like this, not one bit. The rain began to trickle down, Terra moving and arching her body happily over the pups. She wasn't going to do anything else, just guard the pups and make sure that they were safe. As far as she was concerned Kable was on his own. Her hackles raised high as part of the shanty broke, glass shattering. She had chosen a good spot though, where nothing could reach them.

The introduction of the storm to the small space sent both pups howling at the top of their lungs, Terra's concerned whines doing nothing to cover it up. Glancing over to Kable and seeing his own fear she snarled. We need to calm them down. Nothing in particular came to mind for the job, unfortunately. She was cold from the rain, and it was a distracting nuisance cutting into her thinking. Maybe talk to them. If she could string her thoughts together this would be easier.

Kable Catori

WC::OCC →

The pups wailed loud with fear. Understandably they would be scared, A grown man and yet Kable himself was pretty startled. Terra’s words made his eyes go wide with shock. We?! You’re kidding. She obviously had no idea the seigneur had little experience with pups. Trying to calm or comfort them was something he had never attempted before. Wind hissed through the open window, water continued to trickle in from all sorts of places.

He moved near her and the children, blocking them from the cold breeze with his back. Exactly what are we supposed to do? He didn’t mean to sound stupid, it just so happened that way. Shh shh shh. He tried to hush them like it was going to do something. Idealess the husky male really had no clue how to quell their cries. Sitting on his knees he covered his eyes, stuck his tongue out at them and made a silly sound. Sure he looked like a fool he peeked through his fingers to see if it was helping or making things worse. It was what he could try; he had nothing better up his sleeve at the moment.

Kable's body blocked part of the storm, allowing Terra to relax from the strain of letting her body be hit by it. Loki and Ananse didn't quiet down, though their cries came out broken now. Kable looked completely puzzled at what they could do to calm them, and she couldn't blame them. She was beside herself with fear, and they were probably picking that up. She was their mother, she should be able to protect them from any threat that came near them in this vulnerable state. She couldn't stop the storm though, just look at Kable and wish that he was bigger.

She watched him pull faces, both pups in utter shock. That shut them up, whether out of fear, confusion, or amusement she didn't now. The coyote burst into laughter at the last one, unable to contain herself. The pups looked at Terra and settled down, eyes glued to his frame now. Even with the storm it looked like there was a way for them all to have fun. Well, Terra could. She wasn't sure how Kable felt about it. Care for a story to pass the time? Something they could all listen to to help them forget the storm.

Kable Catori

WC::OCC →

Where children were concerned Kable was nearly as clueless as any single male could be. He dealt with kids like Skoll and Heiro when they were young, but not quite as young as Terra’s pups. The odd faces and noises he made seemed to quiet them, but he couldn’t identify the expressions on their faces. In the process of trying to make the children laugh, he succeeded in making the tawny colored woman cracked. Her laughter lightened the morose feeling in the room just enough to relax, even if it was only a little.

A story had been what the Baroness suggested. Anything to distract them from the ongoing storm would be welcomed. That sounds pretty good to me. The seigneur was cold, and wet as the wind blew at his back, yet he didn’t care. The Catori male was still torn about the loss of his home and was far from over his mother’s death. Looking at the female coyote he was impressed with her, it seemed like she knew what to do. This was probably why he thought she would make a good mother. Technically he was grown man, but really at this moment he was a pathetic whimpering sight, unable to do anything for anyone really. Kable couldn’t imagine what Ayita would say if she could see him now.

What kind of a story? What’s it about? He quizzed her. The hybrid hoped it would be one with a happier tone to take his mind off the dark ferocity of this storm. His sights were on the children’s faces, he wondered if they could actually understand or if they just enjoyed the interaction.

Terra

Word Count → 000 :: Out of Character text.

Kable might not know what he was doing, but Terra cared little at this point. The storm was raging all around them, and the chance to get her mind off of it and focus instead on the poor male's reactions was one she would take. Kable's body blocked the worst of the storm from where Terra and the pups crouched, so she was able to relax a little more. Terra would prefer that they'd found a nice cave to shelter in. If only it hadn't come up so fast. Then she could have spent more time picking out what she wanted.

It's about when Coyote decided to earn her food for the first time. Her tail swayed as Loki and Ananse looked up, listening as she warmed up to her subject. Coyote always works hard for her meals, but no one appreciates it. They don't think that tricking others out of their food is truly working hard. Coyote didn't like that no one appreciated her work, so she decided that she would earn her food. She would still take from others, but she would give them something in exchange.

Her voice was loud and boisterous, almost challenging the storm as she spoke over it. Terra was determined to let the world of her tale take over in the shed, forceful emotion in every word. So she decided to tell fortunes. Creatures from all across the land would come. Coyote would stare at their reflection in the water, and she would tell them what she saw for them. She would then take food to eat. Everyone was happy, and Coyote's plan was working.

Not everyone accepted Coyote's fortunes as real. As amazing as Coyote is, she can't see the future. She was simply playing the same game she always had, guessing what others would do and telling them that. Cougar thought that she was playing them all false, and showed up, as angry as could be. She would be sly though, and brought a large carcass with her as payment for Coyote's fortune telling. She talked sweetly, convincing those that were there that she truly just wanted her fortune told. Coyote knew better though, and figured out a plan.

Coyote smiled, acting happy to see Cougar. "Why Cougar! It's wonderful to see you!" The great cat licked her lips, smiling. "Of course I came to see you, Coyote. When I heard that you were telling fortunes I just had to come along. I brought you a lovely moose as payment, see?" Coyote admired the moose, nodding her head happily. It was a rather delicious looking kill. She'd have to be careful if she was going to get it.

"Of course." Bending down Coyote stared into the water. "Oh, Cougar! There's no luck in your future. The hunters are coming, and they want to take your pelt to stay warm. Your tail shall be caught and tangled." At this Cougar grew angry. She knew that Coyote was lying. Hissing she leaped forwards, but Coyote was quick. She twisted through a gap, and set it up so that Cougar's tail was caught. Leaving her there Coyote took the carcass, and ran into the hills, laughing. "You should have accepted your fortune, Cougar." Cougar hissed and sputtered, but there was nothing she could do. So Coyote quit telling fortunes, and resumed tricking others out of their food. That was the way it was supposed to be done after all.

Kable Catori

WC::OCC →

The male got a little more comfortable, all settled in and ready to listen to the woman’s story. The only thing he was missing was a snack. Kable paid attention as Terra spoke with emotion trying to assert herself over the storm with her words. Her story had been about a coyote tricking others for food. It seemed a little strange a topic to tell a tale about. Ananse and Loki were locked into their mother’s verbal imagery smiles on their faces as they seemed to mentally leave this world for the one she had created. Coyote was pretty lucky Cougar got caught up by her tail. Otherwise she would be on the menu. For the seigneur there was a lesson in her story, don’t mess with cougars and don’t make enemies by taking their food.

It hadn’t been that tricking others out of their food wasn’t work, as he was sure it was. It only seemed underhanded that anyone would have to do such a thing to get food. Was stealing and trickery something children should learn so young? He wondered about her choice of story genre. Then again he gave her credit; he himself was probably incapable of telling one. She did however succeed in causing him to nearly forget entirely about the hurricane outside. That was a good story Terra.

Terra

Word Count → 000 :: Out of Character text.

The coyote smiled brightly up at Kable, her tail swaying. Both Ananse and Loki had been quieted by the tale. She hadn't seen anything wrong in it. It was just a tale of entertainment, and taught a good trick to make sure that one could get by in the world. She hadn't considered any morals that might be involved. Thanks. She had forgotten about the ferocity of the storm for the moment, much more relaxed than before.

Another gust struck, sending the female to leap up. Her hackles were fully raised as she stared past Kable, growling a challenge to the storm. Ananse and Loki stayed huddled close to her, their cries silenced for now but ready to break out if the storm continued to frighten them. Terra's wide eyes faced Kable, keeping a whine from her throat as she stared at him. Perhaps you could tell one? Anything to pass the time.
