An Odd Sort of Feeling

Fore-dated to the 29th of Sept; in northern Halifax; midday. Darty is in lupus form.

Dartmouth had a chip on his shoulder since waking that morning. It wasn't because he'd slept poorly – in fact, he was happy to find that the ground outside Inferni was just as comfortable as the ground in it. But it was more specific to his actual dwelling: his cave was empty save for the water that still crowded the dark hole. So, after poking around here and there he discovered that there was a place to the south called Halifax, and it was here that he'd most likely find odds and ends to fill his room with; storms had a way of uncovering hidden baubles.

With a quickness to his step that he hadn't experienced in quite some time, Dart slipped through the underbrush and bobbed between trees as he made his hurried journey toward the abandoned town. His whip-like tail lashed about behind him, and his ears laid flat in an attempt to slim down his entire body into a large, black bullet. He had to make good time, he reasoned, for he didn't want his packmates to wonder where he'd gone off to.

Dartmouth didn't have to question if he'd come to the right place – a stinging wave of familiarity hit him as images of the abandoned town back home flashed across his mind's eye. Halifax was so similar to his home, in fact, that he half expected his father to slink out of the shadows and snarl some kind of command at him at any minute. But all seemed quiet – quiet with the whispered pain from the blow of Mother Nature's hand.

Halifax looked like shit. Sure, there looked like there was some clean up from the local wolves that lived in Halifax, but there were a bunch of buildings that were musky of the scent of water, which meant lots of flooding, and there were also trees collapsed on buildings, which just messed things up more. Why Mars had even come to Halifax had been slightly beyond him. He should have stayed home, but he was slightly concerned about this one shop that he had been getting a lot of his fabrics from. It was a clothing store, and it was on the lower levels of a bigger building, and he was concerned that the fabrics had gotten wet and destroyed. He hoped not because there were a bunch of fabric that he was not able to carry home before, so he had to come back for it. Now was the only time he could get out to go get the fabric, and he hurried to Halifax to save them, as if they were in danger.

He rode Vox Populi at full capacity of the Spanish Mustang. It'd been some time since Mars had ridden the beast at full speed, he almost forgot how quick the steed really was. Vox's hooves thundered against the ground that had been flooded the day before. It was hot out today, and Mars was feeling it on his dark fur. He panted even as he rode Vox, and Vox let out huffs of hot air as he continued his stride towards Halifax. He wondered what the rush was, but Mars was his master, so he did not question it for too long. He had his reasons for the rush, and Vox figured it might have been of great importance for Mars to be rushing the journey. Normally they made this journey at a brisk trot, but now it was a full gallop. The wind in his mane felt awesome, so Vox wasn't complaining. He missed when Mars rode like this. It gave Vox a sense of importance, and it let him show off his endurance and speed.

When they finally were in the city, Mars had pulled Vox to a trot, because of the littered roads and the still wet pavement and the pools of water that still were around. Mars sighed lightly, for he really hoped that his clothing shop was not flooded. He really needed those fabrics to finish the dresses he was making for his four ladies (Orin, Krystalle, Paz, and Svetlana). He looked around to see which building it was that they had gone into before to find the shop. Everything looked so different, and the frustration of that was written clear as day on Mars' face as he looked from left to right at the different buildings that all looked different from what he remembered.
