fordated for the 30th.

It was if she hadn't existed before this day.

Ksenija looked blankly at her surroundings, not comprehending what was being presented to her. She was confused, for once, the self-proclaimed ranger felt out of her element. The storm-hued wolf was naked and shivering, her optime form bruised and battered from the passing hurricane. However, something inside of her felt broken. Cloudy blue eyes gazed down at her body and her brow furrowed, questioning her injuries. Long, deep slices decorated her wrists and forearms with a few slashed onto her chest. Around her wrists and ankles was evidence of rope burn, the fur worn away and the skin raw. There were many more injuries, and Ksenija felt the stinging sensation of bile rising in her throat and forced the agitation down. Suddenly weary, the russian tundra wolf closed her eyes tightly and shifted until she was in her natural form and rested her large head on equally sized paws. It was then that she slipped into an exhausted sleep, the memories of the past month or so slipping away from her mind.

Ksenija watched the deer intently, her body cleverly hidden in the surrounding foliage. She was covered in mud, dead leaves and muck from the forest floor. Nothing could smell her or see her, and she was intent on bringing her foreign lover a nice meal after the stressful pack meeting where it was pronounced the leadership left and taken over by Aeron. Ksen didn’t care either way, but her love had been so stressed out she decided to calm her with food. What she didn’t notice however, was that she was the one being observed. A pair of crimson eyes regarded her every move, and with a sickly sweet smile displaying aged and discolored fangs followed the trail she had left. He slid up behind her as she went into a pounce position, and with tremendous force hit her in the side of the face with a thick piece of wood. It made contact with her temple and all she saw was darkness.

When she awoke, Ksen was in a small cave, bound to the walls. Groggily she opened eyes and tried to make sense of her surroundings, and noticed the same pb>air of crimson eyes watching her from the shadows. “ You are awake. “ He observed, blackened lips pulling back to reveal yellow fangs. The russian said nothing, but fixed him with a baleful stare. She tried to ignore the fact that her body ached and her wrists and ankles were bound uncomfortably. “ After you didn’t awaken from your slumber for a few days, I was beginning to wonder if the blow to your head had killed you. It would have been a shame, you are the most beautiful out of the toys I have had yet. “ She struggled keeping her expression blank, but finally succumbed the disgust that was now evident all over her features. His grin widened. “ Now that you are with us, we can begin to play. “ The monster cooed, clearly delighted at the prospect of causing her pain.

It went on for weeks. She was never left unbound, enduring his ‘ play ‘ tied up and in pain. After a while Ksenija gave up hope and retreated deep into her mind, blocking out the pain that he inflicted on her body with tools of destruction and his own fangs and claws. For the most part she was coherent, but when he raped her she quickly became incapacitated, her mind leaving her body completely. As a woman disgusted by men, she made a vow to never let herself be touched by one again so long as she survived this. One day she awoke, bleeding and gravely injured, and he was gone. Her bonds were off. The wind howled outside and the cave was dreadfully cold, but there was no sign that he had ever been here save from her blood splatters all over the floor and walls of her prison. Ksenija crawled towards the entrance and dragged herself out of the cave, ignoring the strong winds and pouring rain outside. She had to get away.

Her eyes fluttered opened at last, the sun streaming down from the heavens. She was warm, and Ksen grunted and rolled over, acutely aware that she was in even more pain today. Nothing had healed, the gashes were still there. She had no way of knowing how long it had been, or where she was. Just that she was alive because of some madman growing bored. Her body had shrunken so much in the month she had been gone she looked like a skeleton, skin pulled tightly over bones with no body fat and little muscle. Her mind was shattered, and she had no memory of anything, only her name. What had happened? There were many scents of different types of wolves nearby and she glanced weakly in that direction. With as much strength as she could muster, the wolf woman raised her head and howled. It was a haunting melody, filled with pain and confusion. Someone, help me.

After what felt like an eternity of water, the rain had finally slackened and stopped. Anatole had recovered from his wounds with a fresh scar for his trouble (though it was hardly noticeable behind his ear, where the branch had struck) and a healthy respect for the tempest. He was homeless and had taken up residence with his cousin for the time being, growing more and more accustomed to being so close to others after having spent the miserable experience as a pack.

But patrols had to go out and marks had to be made. Anatole worked tirelessly to check and reinforce the borders, mixing his own scent with those of the leaders. His rank allowed this status and more importantly reinforced Claudius’ own. He had just scraped a chunk of loose fur off his back by rubbing furious against a tree when the howl came. It was terribly wounded and adrenaline rushed through his body. Had someone been out in the storm and just now found themselves close enough to ask for aid? An echoing call rose from his throat as he bounded off, on two legs rather than four. Though his skin had not been broken, the falling tree had cracked his arm enough to force him to work with three limbs rather than four.

What he found was hardly a wolf at all. She was bone-thin, covered in dirt and blood, gaunt in the face. His eyes widened in surprise and he hurried forward. “It’s all right. You're safe now,” he reassured her softly, using the same low voice he did when around the horses.

had no idea you played him too! yay mel thread times! 8D

The silence was deafening.

Where normally there should be birds singing from the branches, squirrels squeaking angrily and the soft rustle of the breeze through the leaves - there was nothing. It felt surreal. Was she even alive? Ksenija didn’t know, couldn’t differentiate between reality and the escape her damaged mind had set up for her to hide from the pain, the shame.. and the failure. Failure from what? You don’t know? With a start Ksenijas eyes flew open and she backed up, looking around fearfully. Where had that voice come from? Her heart began beating quicker, and her breathing became laboured. Everything was so strange and alien, it was just upsetting her. Still, the broken female looked around cautiously for anybody else but finding nobody. The russian wolf sank back onto her stomach again, uneasily observing her surroundings. It was too much.

In her confusion, she forgot momentarily that she had called for help and was surprised when a deep, loud howl answered back, sounding urgent. Shaking her head, Ksenija tried in vain to clear her mind. It wasn’t happening, there seemed to be a permanent cloudiness within her mentality. Why was it there? Breathing a loud, exhausted sigh she rested her head in her paws again, waiting for the source of the answering howl to arrive. Time seemed to stretch one, and it felt like days rather than minutes before she could hear crashing in the brush, growing closer. Finally a mottled coat appeared out of the foliage surrounding her and spoke to her, in reassuring tones. The tone was so alien to her, not feeling kindness for months that she almost felt disturbed by it. A shudder rippled through her tall but thin frame and a cold pierced her soul, but it quickly passed.

“ I will never be safe. “ She replied, her words barely more than a whisper being carried away on the autumn breeze. For some reason she shivered again, and her disturbed feelings were written all over her face. Why wouldn’t she be safe? Why did she say that, and know it was the truth? Shoving the invading thoughts out of her mind, she looked at her rescuer suspiciously. He had candy apple green eyes, and kind features. Even so, she was wary of him. Her wounds ached at the sight of him, and she knew for some reason males were bad. Very bad. It was a feeling so strong that it originated from her soul and she had to exercise all of her self control to not bare her teeth at him and snap at potentially invading touches. A wounded animal was the most dangerous, and she felt trapped. Trapped within lost memories. “ Where am I? “ She settled on finally after a long silence.

Her voice was hoarse, as if it had been unused for the better part of a few months. Her words were followed by a deep, racking cough and she tasted copper in her mouth. Shamefully, she spit the foul tasting liquid at her paws and discovered the bright color dominating the liquid was her own, her life essence. Her vision swam and she tried to regain focus, but just ended up swaying back and forth slightly, not being able to focus on the strange males features.

It occurred to him why riding a horse might in fact prove useful. This woman was obviously wounded, and lacking medical knowledge, he was at a loss. If she had walked this far she might make it past the borders, but doubt plagued him. Worried, he looked skyward, silently begging his Spirit for assistance. When a rush of warm air passed his face his worries lessened some. Donoma would find help. For now, though, it was up to him.

Anatole closed the distance between them and lifted his hands. Palm-up, it was a gesture of openness, suggesting he was not out to harm her. Then she coughed blood and he imagined her to be falling; he made as if to aid her but held back, reminding himself to move slowly. The last thing he needed after being assaulted by a tree was for some half-crazed woman to bite his face off.

“AniWaya,” he explained, and cautiously moved closer to her. “We have people that can help you.” Then, gingerly, he reached for her arm. “Please,” Anatole added. “I won’t let anyone else hurt you.” It was a child’s promise, but one that resonated from the dark man. Gemma and Tayui had proved to him that there were real monsters in the world, and he could not allow them to enter this place again.

Her sight snapped back into focus as he moved towards and instinctivly she took a step backwards, fists curling into a ball at her sides. She listened intently as he spoke, and found herself nodding in agreement as best as she could. He reached for her arm and she let him take it, breathing a sigh of relief as she moved so he was supporting some of her weight. Everything ached and everytime she took a step it was difficult not to take a sharp breath of pain. How did this ever happen to her? A defeated sigh escaped her muzzle and she glanced at her savior and offered a slight smile to him, grateful for his helpfulness.

" I don't remember anything before waking up today. " She confessed to him, watching his face for signs of emotions. " Not even my birthday. Just my first name. " This troubled her. Ksenija should be able to remember simple things like that, but it was gone. The only thing she remembered how to do was hunt and track. She wouldn't be the same wolf if she didn't know how to track, she was a self-proclaimed ranger. " Is your pack generally nice to outsiders? " The storm-colored wolf questioned, sounding nervous. Hopefully he was an example and the pack was kind like him. Huffing slightly, the female paused, exhausted already from the few short steps and questions she had asked.

Ulilohi was still shocked at the impact of the storm. This was her first, and it had proven to her that she was right in fearing it. They had been right in taking shelter. There were many injured, and she was on edge about anything as they were still checking out the damage, and still at risk. There was still mud throughout the Village, and the huts that had not fallen were still dangerous to enter. She was just waiting for more disasters, more injuries. They were lucky in one sense; there had not been deaths, except among the livestock.

Anatole's call sent her sprinting. Had he found something? He sounded like it was urgent, and she expected the worst. It took time to travel to him, time that frustrated her. She had long legs that were strong, but she was also heavy, and now she had to step carefully, for all the fallen trees and branches, and the mud on the paths. Not until his spirit guide met her along the path did she take a pace that was more sustainable; apparently there was a female in need of their help. Once she was close enough to smell them, her two legs were covered in mud about halfway up. She walked up to them, briskly at first but she soon slowed. She spoke to Anatole calmly, but urgency was present as an overtone. The female looked horribly sick. "What has happened?"

Mercifully, the woman gave in to his assistance. She felt even worse to his touch, all bone and fur. Starving in fresh air was something that happened only to the sick, and he could scent no disease on her, no fever-hot stench of illness. What had happened to her? He still believed it had to be the hurricane—after all, it had tried to kill him. The scar behind his ear and careful way he used his arm were proof of that. Luckily, his arm would heal. They would all heal, even if that meant radical changes were underfoot. After all, he thought rather begrudgingly, he was on two legs more now than he had ever been.

Breathing was hard for her too. He doubted himself and wondered if there was indeed a sickness in her, but she smelled healthy. She smelled oddly dank, though, as if stone had crept into her slate colored pelt. A strangely warm smile came to his face at her question. “It is our way,” he explained simply. There was much more to it, but he had neither the time nor the language to truly make sense of the matter. Things simply were the way they were here.

A warm breeze pulled his attention to the spot where, seconds later, his leader appeared. The big woman was coated in mud, much like Anatole’s own legs, and he dipped his head to her in a gesture of respect. Since he had come to know her, his appreciation for her own talents and rather pleasing personality had only driven the wolfish desire to follow this leader with greater urgency. His eyes, however, returned to her face—while Anatole was feral indeed, AniWaya encouraged his desire to see his superiors as equals, in some way.

“I don’t know,” he admitted. “She’s been hurt very badly, but she doesn’t smell sick. She doesn’t remember anything,” the scout added, almost apologetically. Then he looked back to the stone colored woman on his arm. “You said you know your name?” His voice rose at the end to make what otherwise might have been a statement into a question. She hadn’t given it to him yet.

ooc; going to list all of her injuries. you can reference seeing them or not. :3 in short, she's pretty much a starving, malnutritioned, beaten and tortured wolf.

The sight of an authority figure approaching somewhat unnerved Ksenija, she was unsure about everything right now and it all seemed to be happening at once. She did feel a little better, however, when the scent revealed itself to be female. If she had a mind too, once she might have gawked at the womans impressive stature, but she was too exhausted to do anything but gaze at her with a dull look in her eyes. The russian listened to both of them speak and glanced at the male who had saved her as he directed a question at her. “ Ksenija. “ She replied, lapsing into a coughing fit after the word had left her muzzle. Her throat was parched and it felt like glass when she swallowed. The woman heaved another exhausted sigh, and her thin fingers moved towards her abdomen, noticing that it hurt where she touched. Her ribs were clearly visable and her hips jutted out.

Ksen used to be a fast runner but her thick muscular thighs were no more, looking very thin and without much muscle at all. Her face was gaunt and her once luxurious fur had lost it’s luster. Her hair was very long, past her waist, but without shape and the silver color was dulled too. Around her neck, wrists and ankles the fur had been worn away and the skin raw from where ropes had held her captive and there were deep wounds across her chest and abdomen, runes carved into her back and deep designs slashed into her wrists and forearms. Though she couldn’t remember how she had come upon these injuries or that she was sexually abused, it would almost certainly come out in the next couple of months. The fear of males was already manifesting.

Her sky-blue eyes caught the womans gaze, but there was no mirth to the small smile she offered. Tears threatened to well up in her eyes, but she stifled them. “ I woke up today and was here. I don’t know how I got here or where I am from originally. I remember a little bit of wind and rain, but I don’t know what significance that has. I can’t remember my last name or who I am, save for my name. “ She said, trying to offer something to the two others that might help them but not coming up with much. Her lips trembled as she waited for a reaction, and her eyes echoed a hollow feeling, much like she felt inside.

Mel, that piece of art in your table is gorgeous! Apologies for this short post -- I'm off to bed and figured you wanted to be accepted sooner rather than later! :3

It was all that she needed to know, really. Anatole did not know much, and neither did the female herself. All that they could conclude was that she was in urgent need of care, and if they did not take her in, she might very well risk death. It was not in AniWaya's way to turn down someone in need of shelter or recovery. Ksenija explained her experience and the brown-pelted councilwoman nodded gravely. "Yes. It might be that the hurricane roughted you up." Her deep voice sounded almost hopeful; she knew that a storm alone would likely not cause someone to be unwell like this, but there was some kind of solace in the idea. "Well we best get back to the Village and get some food into you, Ksenija," she paused and shot a glance to Anatole. "We can figure the rest out another time." Perhaps the scouts would find it interesting to investigate this, to help her find out who she was. Ulilohi would have to gather them up and ask them another day. "I'm not injured like you, Anatole. Here... let me help her." Ulilohi was strong, and more importantly; she had four working limbs, rather than Anatole's three. One arm outstretched, she waited for him to "pass her" Ksenija, and they'd be on their way.
