Something to do

(319) OOC: Dated for Sept 27th, we can figure something to do in this rainy cold day!

The winds were slowing down and the rain finally stopped and all was comign back to normal. For a while Eclipse thought it would not end. She was happy that it was beginning to finish and by tomorrow she would be headed home with Robert. She knew he was worried about his mother and he wanted to be home where he knew. She was thankful he came, but felt bad that he left his home to enter into this horrible storm. She would go as soon as they were permitted. Now she was sitting inside her cousin’s home, with other’s coming and going keeping them fed during the storm and there was nothing Eclipse could help out with. She was not familiar with the land or she would go hunting and scavaging herself, but as she watched the water on the streets ripple with the little rain that was out there now she wondered if it was time to start heading out.

She had gotten to meet her new cousins, surprisingly Colibri had children of her own, which were more cousins. She was pleasantly surprised by that and got excited over them as well. She didn’t feel bad either, not about losing her own because they had theirs and they were surviving, although they had recently gotten sick, some of them and she hoped they would make it. She worried about them in that as Hotaru’s children did not survive their sickness from what she had been told. Just thinking about it brought on a burst of worry from her and she looked back to listen for the sound of Lilin and her puppies, though she could not hear them from the main room. She sat in silence, feeling the need to move, to do something, to be somewhere. This storm had kept her inside for days and it was clear she was not enjoying it now.

-chews- have a teme-creature!

Teme Lupus is by Alaine!

The devastation of the hurricane that had hit the whole of Nova Scotia it seemed was still fresh in the mind of the almost-adult Temeraire. Having been out in the thick of it, trying his best to convince a donkey to return to the stables so they could be boarded up, thereby reducing the risk of dead horses by the morning, he understood the horrible forces of nature. He'd kept the fact that he found the storm exhillerating, the adrenaline pumping through his blood each and every time thunder rolled across the sky and lightening lit their way. In this way, the male could almost believe in the God's that their Godja preached about, that Lilin and Colibri prayed for. In his mind, he could see a mighty battle taking place- Thor and Loki, locking weapons and wrecking havoc across the mortal world.

The clean-up, however, had been less fun. Though the rain had continued for a day or so after they'd received the brunt of the force, it soon settled down into something more manageable. And this revealed the damage that it had caused. The trees were almost all stripped bare despite autumn only just starting, there were a few trees that had given up entirely and laid down to rest. The earthen paths that marked their passages through Jordheim were obliterated and the village was clogged with debris from the storm. The beach held a similar sight and the flooding damage to just about every section of Vinátta would take time to clean up. It was carnage, Temeraire could not doubt that.

His younger siblings had suffered after the hurricane- all three had caught colds from the cold draughts and rain that threatened to invade their home. Despite his outwardly despondent attitude towards his step-mother and half-siblings, Temeraire had felt sorry for them. It was the reason for his visit today- heading towards his fathers home he wished to see if their were doing alright. He entered without knocking as always and called out a soft; Hello? before moving to try and find some life in the house that had offered sanctuary.

(327) OOC: you're very welcome to come in Big Grin

Everyone must have still been asleep, taking advantage of the fact it was still raining a little out. She was about to doze of herself, she was in fact, but for the silent call of ‘hello’ come from close by. She’d heard the door and she sat up to see her cousin who came in quietly. She sat up to see the dark male close the door and she tilted her head, she didn’t see much of his father in him. That didn’t mean he was Saul’s he just might look more like his mother. Of course the fur didn’t much look like him. His stature was that of his father and she smiled thinking about it, though it died as a flash of her own pink children and what they would have looked like. She sat for a few seconds before deciding to say something.

“Hello cousin “ She said in a quiet voice walking toward the door from where she had been sitting near the window; “I think everyone is still asleep. They say the puppies need a lot of rest if they are to get rid of their sickness;” She said, though a haunted look came to her face. She hoped they would not pass on as Hotaru’s children did, she just knew they had some kind of sickness, and that worried Eclipse to no end. She quickly hid it and gave him a small smile; “So it’s not so bad out there now?” She asked curiously hoping he wasn’t going to be as shy as he had been the last time they had met. She wanted others to be comfortable around her, and not be scared of her as though she really was the bad wolf her own family had been, though lately she was beginning to think th rumors of stormbringers weren’t as bad as she was told. But the souls... that was another story altogether.

Teme Lupus is by Alaine!

Unlike the last time he'd seen Eclipse, Temeraire had certainly grown in confidence, to say the least. While he wasn't overly arrogant, there was a cockiness about him, reflected in his crooked grin, the mischievous glint to his eyes and the confident swagger with which he walked. This was his family though, for better or worse and he knew that they didn't appreciate the act. It was ingrained into him, the snicker, the smirk, the grin that was nothing like his fathers yet at the same time wasn't condescending. The brown and white figure of his visiting cousin caught his eye and the male moved towards her with a genuine smile on his lips. He liked Eclipse- she was a year older than him but he felt as though they were similar.

Her soft words didn't fail to widen his smile into a toothy grin and he nodded towards her softly as he came into her general proximity. Her next words caused him to snort softly- his father most definitely would not be asleep, he could guarantee that. Of course, her relay of the information that his brothers and sister might be sick caused his ears to droop softly. He knew they'd caught something from the hurricane and he sincerely hoped that they would survive it. He didn't know the extent of the illness though, he'd yet to ask his father about it. I pray to the God's to keep them safe. Temeraire offered, though he'd done no such thing. He didn't know if he believed in their Gods, but perhaps Eclipse did.

The rain outside was beginning to settle and Eclipse commented on this. He nodded softly, glancing out the window over the females head to check. It was settling as I was coming over, just a drizzle now. He offered, his tail flickering back and forth. It had been a miserable week for perhaps the whole of Nova Scotia and thankfully Vinátta hadn't suffered any serious and lasting damages. The horses, and that damn stubborn donkey, had been released properly a few days ago to get grazing once more, though the sand bags remained outside their door. Taking another glance outside, Temeraire asked his question. As its cleared up a bit, maybe we could go hunting? I'm sure Lilin would appreciate the extra food and Coli certainly needs some help. He said, showing there was a caring side to him.

(332) OOC: Tee hee!!

It seemed Teme did change for the good from what Eclipse could see. She smiled back at him. Her thoughts turned back to the here and now as she looked at the man, he was grown and probably still had some growing to do and was as most were, much taller than herself. He spoke of the puppies and using the word gods, which made Eclipse tilt her head slightly. She had only heard of one kind of god, which Razekiel taught her. It was mother earth and she was what had the power over everything. Then again that was the only belief she had heard from. She wasn’t going to ask but she nodded; “Yes I hope the same as well. There has been bad experiences with children sick in my own pack so I pray every night that my cousins stay safe and alive.” She said.

He spoke of the weather and she smiled at him, feeling it would be nice to go out and his offer to go hunting made her grin. For once she knew she could be of some use; “Yes, I would like that! Let me go and get my bow.” She said and then hurried to the room she and Robert were given for their time being there and grabbed her bow and quiver, slipping the bo in with the arrows and taking the string in her hand and hurried back. She held up her quiver with a grin. She was so used to the use of such a thing that she forgot not everyone hunted with the bow, they mostly hunted on all fours. She was more than happy to help them as they had housed her and Robert and their horses as well. Her eyes were bright as she came up to Temeraire and nodded letting him be the one to lead them. She didn’t know the best places to hunt in this area and he would.

Teme Lupus is by Alaine!

The concern for his siblings was suppressed- he knew worrying about them wouldn't actually make them better despite what a lot of people thought. Hunting, on the other hand, was a practical solution to the problem. Both Lilin and Colibri were still recovering from their birthing and keeping their strengths up would only serve to help his siblings and cousins. Colibri may not be actually blood related to him, but he'd long since given up explaining to others that she wasn't actually his aunt. This made her daughters his cousins by bond and Temeraire fully intended to provide for them. He knew Colibri wasn't a confident hunter and it would certainly help her- he'd noticed how weak she was after the birth of her daughters.

Eclipse's concerns and experiences were taken with a soft nod of his head. They would all be praying in some way or another for them to make a full recovery, though his father had mentioned that he thought it was a relatively simple cold from the chill of the hurricane. Temeraire remembered all to well what it was like to be out in the brunt of the storm, the wind lashing in his eyes and the rain chilling him to the core. It wasn't any kind of environment for the pups to grow up in, that he knew. As Eclipse agreed with his suggestion, Temeraire allowed the grin to wash over his lips before she moved to retrieve her bow. His fathers bow had always intrigued him and he was interested in the process.

I want to learn the art of the bow some day. He said softly as she emerged, quiver full with the arrows and bow that she'd gone to retrieve. Making sure she was ready, he inclined his head towards the door once before moving to open it for his cousin. He knew where they were heading- north-west, into the forests on the other side of the Lake. Flashing his cousin a cheeky smile, he took off at a brisk run, his arms itching to rise up and catch the branches over head and swing. It would have been rude to leave Eclipse on the ground however, so he remained, slowing his steps to allow her to keep up.

(241) OOC:

When he eyed her bow and spoke Eclipse smiled; “If you want to learn I can give you a quick lesson. It’s really easy to do, all you would have to do after was just to practice and aim. It is what I did at least” She said offering to her cousin. She followed him out and had no problems keeping up with him. She walked her lands for many hours every day either tracking, hunting, or gathering plants, and she was use to quick paces from when she had wandered as a puppy never staying in one place for too long, and knew dangers of the lands. Now it was automatic and she didn’t tire quickly so his pace was just fine for her.

“Where is it we are going anyway?” She asked when Temeraire slowed down a little. She was excited to know where they hunted and what kinds of game they would have. She liked veriety and learning, and seeing new things. She was watching her surroundings as they went on. She had been in them before but around another way, it was a large territory and even her last visit she barely got to see much of it. Now it was more marshy than she remembered, but she reminded herself that a hurricane just came though and it would have flooded places especially the closer they got to a water source.

Teme Lupus is by Alaine!

Stormbringer blue eyes widened and he sucked in a breath as Eclipse offered to give him a lesson. He knew his father had a bow and quiver of arrows, but he didn't think he'd ever seen him use it and thought it rather a large waste of a good hunting weapon. He found himself nodding eagerly, blue eyes shining with a much-repressed gratitude. She made an off-hand comment about how easy it was and Teme couldn't help the cocky grin that had washed over his lips- she'd issued a challenge it seemed to him and his answering grin was a whole-hearted acceptance. A lesson would be great... thank you. He offered in return before the pair moved to the door and out into the cold.

He was surprised, and rather impressed, to see how his cousin managed to keep up with him. She was a year older than he was, but he was an out-doors kind of wolf and had the high metabolism that gave him far too much energy. Still, he managed to reign himself back to run beside her- even if she could keep up with him, they didn't want to turn this into a competition, wear themselves out before they got to the hunt. Eclipse's enquiry was met with a secretive smile, the softest shake of his head that said he wasn't going to tell her. It wasn't out of a need to keep information from her- he just didn't have a name for the deep forest closer to the Commune than Jordheim.

We'll be there in a moment, be quiet! He teased, though there was a hint of seriousness that said they were in fact drawing close to the herd of elk that had been hanging around the north western borders for weeks now. His arms ached to lift him above the ground, the conceal himself within the trees to stalk. He didn't know why he preferred his aerial attack to a more terranian one, but he did. After a few short moments, he came to a jogging stop, casting around on the ground to find the most recent tracks. So, how do you want to do this? They aren't that far from here, probably resting in a thicket close... will the bow do? He asked, fingers itching to try the weapon out.

(515) OOC: GIVE CHASE!!!!

She grinned and nodded at his acceptance to learn the bow. They still had most of today to get a lesson down. She moved behind him quietly after he told her it was best to. Her ears perked forward as she ran alongside her darker cousin. Then he finally spoke. “You remember those deer I brought? I did not bring them already dead from Cercatori. I killed both of them. I Think I can work out these.” She said, but in truth she had no experience in hunting elk or even moose. She was at odds there but she was sure as long as she caught them in the vitals at least once she could make sure that they are downed. She was quick with her bow, but it would be a bad idea to hit the animal and then it come rushing at them.

She pulled her bow out and strung it quietly, pulling to make sure the draw was as it should be then took an arrow from her quiver put it in her mouth, then another to put on her draw. She motioned him to follow her and crouched down, a hunters position, and walked as silently as any predator could. Her eyes focused on the prints, which were many, it must have been a small family herd. She soon caught scent of them. She moved around so that the wind, that was still slightly strong was blowing perfectly against her from the front, where the scents of the Elk blasted her nose. She looked to see which she would take. It was a matriarch herd, the young they had were old enough to be weened now, so if she killed a mother it would not matter for the child. She looked to see if there were any injuries, but it seemed this was a potentially healthy herd. She could have a pick of the herd and she spotted a big stocky female, she was plump enough that was certain, Eclipse Stood straight finally and as she did she had the bow up and pulled. The elk were still about fifty feet from where they stood, they were not bothered by the woman standing so far away. She waited for that perfect opportunity to get the plump female. She aimed and let loose, the arrow hit right where she wanted, but not as deep she quickly strung and shot the next aiming for the front flank again, the animal was running now, and it was harder to get it, but she hoped the arrow would stick because if not the elk would live even wth the first shot through her skin and some muscle. Eclipse hurried to the panicked Elk pulling another arrow out and following her plump target. She ran faster than she thought but could not see her second arrow as she passed by the shooting spot, a grin spread across her face. Now it was the chase, the animal would tire and they could give it a proper death, if only she had gotten it the first shot!!!

Teme Lupus is by Alaine!

The remark from Eclipse only caused a snicker from the boy- it seemed to be a standard response to most, as if he found everyone and everything amusing. His white tipped tail flashed back and forward however, a sign that he was not mocking her. While he had no reason to respect his cousin per say- Temeraire was a firm believer in being true to his own emotions and not going along with the normal response to meeting another- he knew that she was not an arrogant or spiteful creature at heart and there was therefore cause to like his older cousin. He refrained from answering her boasting words, instead he wore only a crooked grin as they pressed forward.

Their silence mirrored one another as she came to a stop and began to prepare her bow. Unfazed by most things, Temeraire moved closer and looked over his cousins shoulder, absorbing everything that she was doing. Stringing the bow seemed to require some effort, but when the knotted string slotted into the small slit in the wood, the bow resembled something far more useful. He watched as Eclipse tested the strength, drawing the string back once or twice before grabbing her arrows. It was on now. However, instead of allowing Temeraire to take the bow, as he assumed she would have done, as this was a lesson, she began to ghost forward, blue eyes intent on the herd. He had no choice but to follow behind.

She seemed to make her target and for a moment Temeraire considered asking her what her plan was, before the arrow loosed and struck the elk on the rump. Subconsciously he winced- it was a poor shot and it would mean the pelt would be broken. As if realising her mistake, Eclipse was quick to release another arrow, but the male was already in movement. The elk was crying out in pain and it wasn't fair to subject it to a slow bleed-out. He still wasn't sure where the second arrow had hit, but he heard Eclipse running behind him and was grateful she understood that the shot hadn't been adequate. Without a thought for his cousin, he leapt up into a low-hanging branch of a tree, launching himself on all fours (still in his optime form) through the branches. He was able to cover more distance from here and within a few moments, he was swinging alongside the deer.

(201) OOC: Sorry about the shortness

As she made a mad dash for the animal so did Teme, though he had a head start on her and she was glad he stayed clear of her arrow that she loosed the second time, she would not be able to keep up with the animal on two legs still holding onto the bow, but as she was about to drop it and try to run on all fours her cousin jumped up a tree, and started chasing it above him. This distracted her long enough that the animal was getting away quickly. She shook her head reminding herself what they were doing and then ran after the animal. She got as close as she continued to run, not wanting to shoot again for fear of hitting her dark cousin. She did finally toss her bow close to a tree, not unceremoniously, but quick enough to get on all fours and run, it was constricting with the clothes she wore, and she thought perhaps she should have taken them off. She continued running waiting for Teme’s cue as he was the one who had the advantage as he was above it and keeping up with her in the trees.

Teme Lupus is by Alaine!

Once he'd reached the trees, his focus on Eclipse dimmed. There was an injured Elk just a few yards in front of and down from him that needed to be killed. The rough bark beneath his paws was a comforting texture, one he was as familiar with as the muddy ground on which he'd walked for a good portion of his life so far. As it was, he was moving at a speed just below that of the Elk and he knew that he was going to have to make his move. Unfortunately, the doe wasn't moving in a straight line- the injury and the knowledge that she was being hunted had sent her into a panic that caused a mad dash through the woods.

Powerful hind legs pushed him from one tree to the next and he began to get glimpses of his brown cousin. She was below, following as fast as she could. He noticed that she no longer held her bow and wondered where she'd put it. His attention wasn't held long and it was within a few seconds that his decision had been made. The upcoming thicket of trees was dense, which would be advantageous to their hunt. He could still move relatively easily through the trees, but the doe would be slowed by the limited space.

With a single huff of air, Temeraire sprang from the tree, arms outstretched as he descended from his height. The doe had no idea that her killer would come from above and the shock and momentum of both of their bodies could not remain upright. They tumbled- his claws dug into the animals shoulders while they hit the ground, the breath leaving him in a whoosh. He needed Eclipse to move in now, to make some kind of killing blow, because while he'd managed to manouver himself into a position to easily pin the doe, he couldn't reach the neck to kill her.

(347) OOC: Whee fun!!!

Eclipse kept her pace trying to keep the doe in her sights as well as her cousin. She hoped he would know that it was up to him to stop the animal and she wouldn't last too long with the pace they were going. Finally she saw the man jump from the trees and land on the animal, knocking her down. This was Eclipse's cue to speed up and she did, running as fast as she could. Time was of the essance ad the man was wrestling with the thrashing elk. As soon as she was upon the elk her mouth clamped against the neck of the animal. As strange as it was, being in optime and hunting naturally, she could not think about it as she tasted the salt and iron of the Elks life blood in her mouth. It tasted wonderful as her adrenalin built and she let her mouth clamp down harder on the animal. The elk struggled less and less as her air supply was blocked and she died. Once she no longer moved she let out a slight growl and sat up.

“That was a pathetic shot....” She said disappointed in herself as she sat up looking at the elk. Her shot was suppose to hit and keep her down, but instead it was off, not something that she would normally do, perhaps she just got too cocky for her own good. She let out a huff. At least they got the elk and that she didn't suffer too much. She thanked the animal silently in her head for giving them her meat. She looked at her cousin smiling now, even though she made such an embarrassing shot the run was good. “So how about we get this where it needs to go and I can give you a better lesson than the one I gave myself to this poor animal.” She said. She had learned not to sulk that long, and was good at laughing at herself when she did something that would make others scoff at her.

we could finish here and OOCly assume Eclipse had given him a lesson?

Teme Lupus is by Alaine!

Despite the strength of the elk female beneath him, Temeraire was stronger. His arm muscles locked into place around the base of the females the neck, his chest resting awkwardly across her shoulder blades so that for a moment he looked as it he were straddling the elk's back. His legs- one trapped beneath the animal and the other thrown over the animals stomach, locked together at the ankle and for all intents, the imagery must have been absurd. But he wasn't letting the animal go, not to save his image in front of his cousin. For a few short seconds, time seemed to still as Temeraire struggled to keep his arms and legs locked, before the impact of the brown female and the cry of pain from the elk alerted him to his saviour.

The bleats of the female were loud in his ears, but he could hear the rasp in the cry, the blood swelling up to block the wind pipe and her life was shortly extinguished. Eclipse remained, mouth firmly locked into place and Temeraire refused to move until she did. Logically he knew they were hunting together, but instincts were much more raw when hunting and fighting and there was a possessiveness to his hold on the deer body. The seconds passed and for a moment Temeraire didn't know if she would release it, before a slight growl escaped his cousin and she moved. With a swift unlock of both arms and legs, Tem pushed himself from the still-warm animal and stood. Eclipse's words caused a snort from his lips, a shrug to his shoulders.

No harm done, we caught her in the end. He spoke not as if to reassure her- his tone was not conciliatory in any way. He looked down at the elk, an odd fondness to his gaze before his cousins words came once more. It seemed like a good idea, as this hunting trip had been fruitful despite the blunder made. He turned and cocked a grin, before moving towards the animal. It might take some effort on both our parts to get this thing moved! He chuckled, strong arms moving to grasp the animals rump and back end in his grip.
