His God is smiling on his cold mechanic soul

He's wandering around the Ruins.

Nine days had come and gone since the world fell silent. Yet, gilded ears flicked at the soft mewls that occasionally sounded from the pelt stuffed pocket he carried against his chest, partly beneath the black and crimson of his long coat. The weather had become chillier, and he did whatever he had to do to ensure the children were kept warm. Ideally, they should have been inside somewhere, warm and protected, but he was a lone parent, and it would be wrong to depend on Siv and others. The children were his responsibility, and he was eager to take up the task. He couldn’t feed them, but he’d do all the rest.

His mate’s body had been removed from the home they had built together, and the stench of death hadn’t taken long to vanish after he had cleaned the place up. Still, he had spent quite some time considering whether or not he’d be able to stay here. It hadn’t quite become their haven yet, and now he knew it never would be. Not truly. The most important thing was missing – it was missing China. If there was no China in the world, then there would be no true home for him. Regardless, he would have to try to settle with what he had and try to make a home for the two one-weeks old nuzzled against the warmth of his heart.

No one had tended to the birds, and he didn’t feel great about that. Their cages had to be cleaned and they had been hungry when he first had showed up. Bellies were now full of corn and raw meat, but they’d been imprisoned in their cages for too long. Eventually he just opened the doors and allowed them to take wing. He knew each and every one of them well enough to know they would return, eventually. He had made sure they all knew loyalty. The dirty work would have to be done later, for he couldn’t do such when the babes were so young and vulnerable.

Soot flapped his wings and landed on the Salsolan’s pale shoulder. The bird wasn’t as discontent as its brethren, for he was privileged to not be confined to a cage most of the time. Besides, it seemed the bird was his most trusted companion. Although they could understand each other perfectly through broken high speech as well as low speech, the silence between them was one of understanding. Itachi actually found it soothing. The stench of the bird cages was something he’d deal with another day, and he turned away. He didn’t want to enter the house at this time, and left with his shell calm and intact. One wouldn’t be able to spot the truth on his stoic face, but he was a creature of extreme sorrow.

He padded along the ruins, though did not feel comfortable returning to Siv’s straight away. Ten days of chaos hadn’t treated him well, and his body lacked its usual exercise. With his two children falling asleep against his chest with the steady movement, he kept on walking, staying by the ruins with the black bird on his shoulder.

No idea how I'm going to stick this in Memphis' timeline but I don't care. Want a thread with Libri. >:] Also this was overboard, haven't written this much in a while.

Memphis had taken up bird watching lately. Whether that was staring at them in the air while lying on the ground or stalking them when they'd land on the ground nearby. Either way she was fascinated by winged creatures and over time perhaps it was that fascination that would help her with developing her hunting. She didn't know and it didn't really matter but this fascination led her to wander a little ways from home and got her completely turned around. The little grey-blue mohawk had stumbled amongst the ruins with only one other dominant scent nearby, a dominant scent that wasn't Mama or Aniichan, someone completely new and different and adult. That was the key, this was an adult with adult things and, she sniffed the air rather intently and her little brain struggled to distinguish each scent. There were little wolves, little puppies maybe even younger than here. Just barely there, no doubt the adult had hidden their scent like Isabella had hidden hers but she could just make out something that was more, that was less than adult but more… new.

Her trip to the ruins had been simple enough. She had started off just watching a blue jay, a rather aggressive bird that had chased away some of the other birds that landed near its food. Memphis had decided for now that this was a blue bully bird and had come to these lands looking for dominion over all other birds. The black birds, caws as she would call them, would scream at the blue bully bird but rarely made any effort to actually do anything about it. It was interesting to watch this power struggle unfold before her eyes, she had heard of what wolves did to show dominance and leadership and power. The very ideas and thoughts were ingrained in her mind, she had to only take time to relearn even a little bit and the rest would begin to come tumbling back to her. She had missed her first key socialization period being with only Kaoru and then Isabella. Now she had to make up for lost time.

Light grey body stumbled through the ruins, pouncing on this and tripping over that and generally having a pretty good time. Although her end destination would be the source of that intriguing scent she was allowed to have some fun getting there right? Tripping over a low clearance, flat rock Mem stumbled and rolled, squawking when she landed abruptly against a piece of crumbling brick. Stars streamed before her green eyes and she sat and wobbled where she had finally stopped moving. "Stupid rock. Stupid inamiable rock." The word she had meant to use was 'inanimate' but at her age some words sounded the same as others and without truly knowing their meaning she could only guess and then assume. Assuming was her friend.

It took minutes for the dizziness to clear, but it did and Memphis set back off again and finally, finally her little paws took her to within sight of the creature. Not only did this wolf, sniff, maybe more than wolf walk on two legs like her Mama but he also could smell the youngsters a tiny bit better perhaps wrapped up. The real kicker, the real source of immense happiness and intrigue was the bird perched on his shoulder. This strange and interesting male had a bird pet. A bird friend that stayed with him without any sort of tether or means of intimidation. Truly this creature was some sort of grand creature! Slinking forward she pushed up onto all fours, tail gently wagging but avoiding her usual puppy like foolishness. She had the biggest question to ask, an important and all encompassing question. "Are you King of the Birds Mister?" It was important to know.

Omg when was last time I had Xani thread? Did I EVER?! -totes cant remember-

It seemed so sudden, when the child stood there before him, so small on four paws next to his optime height. Itachi wasn’t gifted with social antennae; he was poor with fellow adults, and worse with youngsters. It had always been so, though most young wolves seemed to pick up on this and did not seek him out. He was a stranger to many in Salsola despite having been there since the pack’s birth.

There was no proper greeting before the strangest question arrived, and caused his ears to perk. Scarlet eyes peered at the little one, the curtains behind the gloriously shaded windows closed. He had been a king, once, but no more. ”I am,” the adult answered; lying. Yet, it was not a malicious twist, this. The question was inane, and would it not make the encounter intriguing for the younger mind if he was as blue eyed as to believe Itachi to be the majesty of anything? He knew there were all sorts of companions in these areas, and so his crows were far from the most exotic creatures that could be found. Would the kid be impressed if the golden man called forth the male peacock that Sirius had left behind?

The Lykoi didn’t quite know which step to take next, for he didn’t know what children saw and heard. China would have reveled in this moment to watch him practice. She had been his motivation, and she was no more. He wasn’t anything, anymore.

Slowly, he stretched out his hand towards the young one, and the black bird skittered down along his cloaked arm. He didn’t think the bird would resent the attention unless the kid became too bold too fast. ”His name is Soot,” a name his dead mate had come up with.
