SIDENOTE: sometimes I just want to write about rabbits!

p. Hel & all her goodness

His fur matched the color of the roads dirt. A soft even tone that made him melt into the surroundings, lighter then chocolate but richer then soil itself. His back arched in a high dome and his front paws perched above the ground and his black eyes scanned the horizon. Satisfied that there was no threat moving in the grasses along the road’s side he brought a long soft ear toward his face. Small front paws cleaned each ear, drawing across the length of each with wet toes until he was satisfied.

Such a morning, the sun low but stretching its long bright fingers across a cloudless sky, could deceive any beast into thinking that all was calm.

But eyes were watching, high-perched ears taking in the sound of each paw movement and black nose enjoying the warm-blooded smell. As much as nature had planned on giving him a coat that made him disappear in the summer foliage, it did not fool the keen eyes she bore. The soft morning breeze was laden heavy with he scent, and such a banner could never be missed with her keen nose.

She sat, perched on the highest rung of the cattle fence, the wooden beam supported her with no strain. The small fey turned her head from the easy snack and stared into the open morning sky. The day would not last as pleasantly as it had begun. By noon the sun would go missing behind a thick layer of gray and the rain would begin again, as if it had never stopped. Her mood was much like the weather, pleasant to start and dank to end.

It had been a long walk back from her visit with Naniko. Each step that lengthened the distance between them felt like a hundred miles. Her heart was heavy and unhappy, barely beating and sick with guilt. How could fate put her in such a position? All she could do was sit, to tired to make it back to her den, where sleep waited for her. If she stayed close to the barn, she could retreat there to avoid the rain. But as the rabbit hopped lazily back to its den and happily living for another, there was only peace and sunshine to be enjoyed, if she could rally enough to do so.
