She shouldn't have been lugging around the logs, but it was Samhain, and it was time for a bonfire. She set up the logs, and then set the fire to blazing. She couldn't help but to remember the one last year, in jaded Shadows, between her and Lucifer. This one would go better. There would be no suicidal feelings, no accidental stabbings. This would be a pack wide event, a pack wide celebration.
The night was cool, and the fire was welcome heat. Tonight the pack would celebrate the joyous tradition of Samhain. Deuce let her head fall back, allowing a rich throaty howl to issue forth. This would be for the pack, a time to exchange stories and goodwill. It was to be their new years eve, and the day of the dead. She had set a place for Lucifer's mother, and for her own dead children. There were far more seats than needed, and she felt eyes on her as she moved about, radying the nuts to be roasted, and the apples for peeling.
Before the others could arrive, she bowed to the west and spoke. "Honored ancestors, you are welcome to join our festivities tonight. May Rhiannon bless you and guide you in her light." She smiled then, feeling at ease, and placed a handful of nuts in a special roasting pan, placing them over the fire.

DaVinci knew what was coming, he had duties to his pack and family now and he was fufilling both of those as much as he could. Now he was setting out down the dirt road with the two youngest members of the pack hot on his tail. He'd learned to relax a little with the two and actually allow them to frolic and play in the meadows along the way. He smiled ac he caught the scent of smoke on the winds, the leader's had obviously begun the celebration a bit early, but he didn't mind. If Phoenix Valley was anything like any other pack he knew the members would slowly be pouring in along the way.

Skylar and Tyrone actually had bypassed their father as they came close to the field where the bonfire was to be held, the Shaman was there by scent, his mother he couldn't scent yet but knew the woman would be along soon. He knew she was with child, hell, everyone could see that by now but he doubted that it was just yet time for the children to be brought into this world. He found it funny trying to explain to his children that he was about to become a brother again and that they would be neice and nephew to the new puppies. He shook his head as he followed the two into the field and moved forward to greet the Shaman.

"'Evening Deuce.. Fine night.." He of course knew the meaning of the holiday they celebrated, having spent time as a member of one of the irish clans he had learned their history and holidays at the knee of the elders. Firefly had known more than he did and probably always would, she'd taken like a pup to the tit when they spoke of the mystics and mysteries of the isles. DaVinci could respect their ways, but he was no shaman and he was no priest. He believed that Firefly would have followed the lead of the priestess if she'd had free reign to stay in the lands.. but when they'd departed she'd come as well. Family did seem to have some priority over passion.. atleast with the small band there had been.

He stretched out his long legs and watched the two as they moved along sniffing one log then another as if trying to figure out which place was going to have the best view and closest spot to all the excitement. He shook his head and remembered how once he too was the same way, right in the middle of all the glam and glitter of the packmeets, no matter how important or dull the meetings really were. He surely couldn't claim that now as he settled down near Deuce to enjoy the warmth of the fire upon his silvery pelt.

Iskata had known that Deuce had spent much time preparing for the holiday and the Sadira woman had been looking forward to spending the time with her family but she'd been so tired as of lately that she almost didn't think she would make it. Having found out so suddenly that her trusted packmate Jefferson wasn't just a packmate but her own long lost nephew. The oldest Sadira had a lot to think about and be thankful for with the coming of the new year and the ending of the old.

She slowly had been making her way down the dirt road to where the bonfire glowed so brightly in the coming night. Her sun shot blue eyes danced as she began to feel excited about the night to come, the pups inside her were turning and kicking, she wasn't for certain if they were feeding off her emotions or if their own were coming into play. She smiled to herself and laughed softly, wondering just how much longer it would be til the pushy little pups made their way into this world.

Iskata caught the scent of Deuce and oddly enough it seemed that DaVinci had beat her there along with her two grandchildren who seemed to be trying to decide which of the logs they were going to be sharing as their resting place. She watched the two a moment as she sighed. Tyrone could have almost been her twin and Skylar was her father's twin, the only difference was their eyes, both so strange and yet so beautiful.

She stepped from the shadows and into the light as she nodded her head in greeting to her son and coleader before her lower legs were rushed by the two smaller members of the pack as they excited began to ramble on about their new home by the lake. Iskata's eyes rose to meet DaVinci's as she raised a brow. So her son was taking these new duties very seriously it appeared. She was more than impressed.

The black male knew that this was a day of thinking of the past, but really in all fairness he didn’t want to think of his past, a year ago he got hurt, a year ago he found him-self fighting for his life. Lucifer loved Deuce, and still did but that was a shady night. He didn’t really want to go back to a life style of worrying about his life. The black male would come to the party, and he had things plans, there was very few flowers out there that grew wildly, that would match what he thought of her, no gem would say it either. The male would go to the bonfire and have a moment to talk to her after the party was over. The black male would forget about his feelings for Iskata, and go for the sake of Deuce. The black male gathered him-self as went to this, more so for Deuce then for him-self. She came to his last year, so it was fair correct.
Seeing the lady that he knew would love to have him out of these lands, the male just gave a polite nod greeting her with respect as a leader of her rank should. The black boy then saw the other male and also just gave him a nod. The male looked to Deuce dipping his maw down again.
”Hello Deuce, Iskata, and Sir. Deuce can I talk to you after this…alone?”

The pregnancies of both women were apparent. Deuce had a knack for showing earlier than she should, actually. She was pleased, although Lucifer's obvious dislike for the future pups left her a little uncertain. She wouldn't hang her head in shame, however. In the distance she heard a howl, and she knew another pack was celebrating tonight. Deuce knew she needed to visit Haku soon and let him know of her pregnancy. She hoped he would be as pleased as she was.

She warmly greeted Da'Vinci and his pups as they arrived. Her greeting for Iskata was no less warm. She turned as she heard a noise, and smiled softly at lucifer, her eyes warm but in a different way. The dark male and white female were oil and water, but they worked somehow. It would just take some time to push the boy back to how he used to be.

His words surprised her, but she nodded. "Of course, Lucifer. You are always more than welcome to speak with me."

escape is never the safest path

Something called him closer, like hands reaching out and leading him without his notice. Arm in sling and eye affixed on the cold ground, Jefferson followed his feet in an unlikely daze. He was tired, troubled... The only thing he wished to do was to find a dark spot to sleep for days, weeks... too much was happening at once. He hadn't asked for all this when he'd joined this pack--a place of honor, friendship, apprentices--no, he was supposed to be Jefferson the loner, the independent, the warrior... and yet, he still remained there on those packlands much longer than he'd ever imagined. He'd never expected to stay so long, and yet he was still there. He had no explanation why. A strange alteration clouded his face and eye.

The warmth and glare of the blaze snapped him from his meandering daze, at which point his eye wandered up and he reached his good arm to scratch at the back of his neck. A few had already gathered... fortunately, despite his lack of knowledge of pack ways and traditions, he knew the time of the year and knew what it meant. Samhain was something he'd never taken an interest in; he had no ancestors to beg for mercy, or even remember. That had changed over the past month. His eye lacked the emptiness within from before, yet his presence felt warped, confused... Jefferson finally took the time to recognize those who had gathered--surprisingly, all of which he'd previously met--and offered a weary, makeshift smile when Tyrone recognized him. He nodded in a vague greeting but said nothing, remaining apart from the other members, and found a space somewhere at a small distance that gave him the time to sit and think. His back was placed against them, and his eye wandered to gaze at the sky. His grandmother, possibly his father... they were now the 'ancestors' he was to think of and remember on days like Samhain. He hadn't the slightest memory of either of them, let alone any of the other countless family members he could lay claim to. It was depressing, yet he was not depressed; he was simply... dazed, and desired no attention from his fellow members for the time being.

She smiled as suddenly the two forms of her grandchildren were in the field and frolicing around eachother as their father slowly followed. She smiled at him and nodded softly as she chuckled at the antics of the two small ones. Suddenly the elder Sadira was greeted with Skylar moving from the spot the two had chosen and coming to sit beside the Matriarch. Iskata reached over and licked the younger girl behind the ear as she sighed softly, so glad that someone had stood in her way when she'd almost made a horrid life choice. She looked over to the two males as they seemed to decided they were more dignified to come greet her like Skylar had. She wagged her tail slowly as Skylar leaned against her, her small scrap of a flag thumping hapily against the ground as she seemed to be studying what Deuce was up to yet not ready to stick her nose into the mists of everything just yet.

Suddenly Iskata's eyes caught sight of Lucifer as she narrowed her eyes slightly, wondering just what he wished to speak to Deuce about but not asking. Instead she called out to the male as she tilted her head towards her son. "Lucifer, I'd like you to meet my son DaVinci and my grandchildren Skylar and Tyrone." She smiled softly, proud of her family that was here in Phoenix Valley. They had had a harsh history behind them but somehow they had pulled through and here they were. She wished that that past wasn't there but it was and there was little she could do about it but be thankful this holiday wasn't her asking for their forgiveness.

A yawn had parted her lips as Jefferson moved into the clearing. Snapping her jaws shut quickly she smiled at the male, her nephew who was just as much a stranger than anything and yet more friend than family. She noticed the glance towards Tyrone as she glanced away, allowing the males their instant of bonding before Jefferson settled in. The fire crackled and the air was warm as she turned to Deuce finally and asked. "Shaman, I believe you and DaVinci probably know more about the rituals and ways of this night..." She chuckled softly as she continued. "This is your world tonight.." Iskata had followed the ways of the celtics but she'd already met enough ghosts in her life, tonight was for Deuce to show the others the way of things and she was here as a packmate to celebrate like the next.

DaVinci grinned as his children seemed to move into the place and settle in. He had thought they they'd found their places when suddenly Skylar surprised him and rushed over to his mother and greeted her happily as though she was more than excited to see the older woman. He raised a brow at his mother as she returned the greeting and the two girls settled down beside one another. A deep chuckle filled his throat as he noticed Tyrone looking back and forth before finally just giving up on whatever was floating around in his mind. DaVi nodded to Deuce and was about to ask her something when suddenly a dark hued male appeared.

His head turned as the male asked Deuce something outright after greeting those before him. DaVinci nodded quietly yet realized that his mother had introduced him to the dark male. He gave a curt nod as he spoke. "Hello.. Lucifer." He was slightly curious who the male was but not enough to ask at the moment. There were probably dozens of faces his mother knew that he'd never met before. He was warming his toes while Tyrone flicked grains at him, the father patiently taking the abuse while the pack still trickled in.

Lifting his head up he realized that Jefferson had joined the group as a grin split his maw. A twinkle sparkled in his stormy eyes as he called out to the other. "My favorite gimp has arrived.. late as ever!" He enjoyed taunting the male but it was all in good jest seeing how the scarred wolf was mentoring his son and the boy had a great deal of respect for the other. A soft growl was met from Ty as Davinci smirked, his teasing interupted by the announcement his mother was granting to Deuce to allow her to begin. He knew the whole of the pack wasn't present but like all meetings they would probably slink in or not. The meeting hadn't been a demand but rather an invite.. only time would tell.

So Deuce would meet with him after this gathering, he wasn’t sure how it was going to go down when the time came around that they were going to have to come together and have the meeting that he had requested. The male had hoped that Iskata would have ignored him all together, but she didn’t and he couldn’t do it either. He turned his head to look at her, as he dipped his maw smiling at the children and then to the father of them, he dipped his head to the each of them. He had to show them respect; they were ranked over him, well not the children but clearly where children and no matter that they were connected to, he couldn’t be rude to children. ”Pleasure to meet the lot of you.” He looked over to the grey male, it was clear that someone in his family was a coyote, he wasn’t a pure blood so it wasn’t something that bothered him, but he looked over to Deuce knowing how her feelings about this whole matter was, and would she be okay with him here, not that Lucifer would send him packing he was a father, of two cute children, and a pack member, but he would try to comport her if that would be something that she would need, though he knew she wouldn’t want him to touch her, she hated him. Well no hate, but there was no sexual feelings there.
”Hello DaVinci, hope you enjoy tonight. I know for one I’m glad to be alive after last year.” He looked over to Deuce and gave a wink, it wasn’t funny but he was able to handle it in that means. A funny joke, that had lived past and though. Lucifer couldn’t hold that over her, she didn’t mean it and she paid for it.
