this post sucks--I'm so tired!

There were days when she still missed him, still remembered him, just a little bit. Haven looked a little bit like Conri...and that didn't help. Naniko didn't fault the little guy for it a bit, and treated him just like the other pups, but she couldn't help but think about her ex-mate whenever she saw Haven.

At the same time, though, the little pup reminded her of someone else--a much brighter, happier memory. Physe. He looked a bit like her dead father, the same burnt orange color. Naniko was without the four pups today, though. Only Salem had accompanied her this time. The little black pup followed her as she started toward the lake, preparing for a fishing trip. She'd brought the fishing pole; it dangled over her back, bending a little bit with each step. Salem watched the tip of it as they went.

OoC: Sorry about lateness, I didn't see this until now ^^;;

It was rather relaxing to walk through Crimison Dreams territory. They had picked a good piece of land; beautiful and had plenty of food. Also, it seemed the only place she could wander without being confronted by a coyote-hater. Sighing, she scratched the back of her head; Garnet really needed to stop going near Dahlia lands, they were destined to hate her, and all other packs were probably justified too. After all, the coyote clan Inferni had done some vile things in their time, and it seemed that their sin was also hers, just because of species. Hopefully there would be a better world for her children.

About that time, the black coyote picked up a puppy scent along with another that she recognized. Naniko, alpha here. The Massacre smiled and she began to walk towards the scent until she could see a lake and two figures approaching it. One the bright, clean white of the alpha, and the other a tiny black pup. Garnet walked down towards them, yipping out a greeting. ”Fine day for fishing!”

That's okay Big Grin

She had wondered if Garnet had been sticking around the lands or not, but either way was fine with her. Wolves could always use friends, and as long as she wasn't causing any trouble Naniko didn't mind her being there. She applied that rule to everyone, though, regardless of their background. So far, she hadn't heard about anything happening...so she was all right with having the female in and out of Crimson Dreams.

She raised her arm to wave at Garnet as she approached, Salem looking at the other dark creature with interest. "Yes! We were hoping to get some fishing in before it completely froze over--when that happens you have to dig a hole, and that takes some energy." Salem came a little closer to Garnet, looking up at her. "You goes fish wiv us?" His mother had told him all about fishing, and he was very interested in seeing how it was done.

Garnet nodded her head as Naniko replied. It was certainly wise to fish now and save for later, Garnet definitely didn’t want to be making any ice-holes in winter. Of course, it wasn’t like she had ever fished before with a human-rod. No, Garnet was old-school in that aspect; she fished by standing near the flowing water and snatching the slippery fish from the river or stream with her claws. In fact, the coyote didn’t even know how to really work the thing, and she had never seen anyone else use one before, so this would be a learning experience for her.

The Massacre looked down at the tiny pup that had approached her. (Not really that tiny, but oh well.) She smiled down at him and nodded. ”Why not? Sounds like fun to me.” The coyote said, glancing up at the white alpha as she did so. Red eyes asked a silent question, just in case Garnet needed permission to accompany the alpha and child on their fishing expedition.

Naniko had the ability to speak to a variety of animals, but she didn't like to do that when she hunted. It felt too easy, trying to lead the animals to her when she could be the predator and seek them out. She knew that she needed to eat, yes, and if things ever got that bad then she would consider using her talent to bring them to her...but not yet. Now she was satisfied with catching fish, a type of creature who she had a lot of trouble communicating with. It was like they spoke a different brand of lower speech--she could very rarely make out what they were trying to get across.

"We could definitely use the help" She affirmed, looking toward the lake. "The nets are heavy, and we'll need to set them out. Then we can use the rods. I have a few smaller nets, too, on sticks--those could be useful too. I keep most of the supplies, all but this special rod, out by the lake in a box so that anybody could use them."There were little things about the lands like the lake, the mansion, and the herb shack that made Crimson Dreams stand out from other territories. She was glad that, when she and Conri had first come here, they had picked this area. It was a great place. "Have you fished before?" She made a motion for Garnet to follow, and started toward the nearby lake again.

OoC: Gawd this is short, I'm sorry. ;-;

Garnet nodded to the white she-wolf, glad she could be of some use to the both of them. She began to follow Naniko to the lake, a smile forming on her lips. However, when the question came, the smile became much more pronounced. The dark lady scratched the back of her head in slight embarrassment. ”Actually, no. I can’t remember if I’ve ever even tasted fish.”

No worries! <33

Naniko was hoping to teach all of the children low-speech eventually, but only if they wanted to learn. She really liked being able to communicate; it made her job a whole lot easier, as a healer, if they could tell her where it hurt. For a while, when she had been younger, she had basically lived off of fish. So she knew about the many different types of them, which ones tasted best, which ones were harder to find...and what kind of bait to use for each one.

"There are some really good tasting ones in the lake. They like really big worms..and some tall plants that I found in a field near the mansion. Little pieces of the yellow plant. These ones have whiskers, almost like a cat...but I'm not sure what they're called." She was more than happy to share her knowledge with Garnet. "When you go, you can take a fishing rod with you if you want. And worms are pretty easy to find--just dig anywhere. They're in the ground. Most fish will at least go for worms." They reached the lakeside and she got all of the materials needed from the hole in the ground.

"Another easy way is with the net. You just put it up in the water and fish swim into it--then you drag it through and catch them" Salem looked thoughtful, looking at the water, still thinking about the thing that she had spoken about first. "Momma..kitty-fish. Cat-fish." That name sounded good enough to her. "Alright, dearie, we'll call them that." Naniko looked to Garnet, handing her a pole and opening up the jar of corn. "You just take some from the jar and put it on the hook at the end...then you dip it down into the water and wait for a fish to come along and try and grab it. When it does, yank back really hard and pull it up out of the water"

OoC: Making up for previous short post. xD lawl

IC:
Garnet had never had much of an ‘educational’ upbringing. Sure, the coyote had an okay vocabulary, but no one had ever taught her how to read or write. It was both embarrassing and frustrating to not know how to read around Jaz because the large wolf was so skilled at both. Maybe, once she had joined Crimson Dreams officially, she could ask Naniko or even Jaz to teach her.

The female coyote was snapped back into the present when she realized that Nani had been talking about fish for at least little while. She managed to catch the bit about a fish having whiskers, an image that Garnet found quiet amusing. Somehow, that also turned into an image of Naniko with long, cat-like whiskers which made the coyote snort softly. Of course, she wrinkled her nose slightly at the mention of worms. It wasn’t that the girl was squeamish, more that she remembered her time when it was just her and her sister when they were no more than pups. At the time, they didn’t really have much skill or size to catch much else besides mice; a lot of times they had resorted to eating bugs and insects.

Garnet twitched her dark ears as she heard the small voice of Naniko’s pup. Red eyes peered into the waters near the boy, and she saw the fish that he and Nani must have been talking about. ”Cat-fish, huh?” She said lightly, testing out the child’s new word. Of course, she was a bit surprised when the white she-wolf suddenly handed her a pole, must be the fishing-pole, and took out a jar of something that looked like yellow pebbles. She took one out of the jar and carefully put it through the hook. The coyote wasn’t so sure about this whole fishing thing, but why not give it a try?

Garnet dipped the hooked end of the pole into the water and waited. It wasn’t long till a fish swam up and tugged at the hook. The lady pulled the pole dramatically and came up with nothing. She looked blankly at the empty hook for a while before she grabbed a handful of corn and re-baited it. After a few more times of the fish getting food and she getting nothing, the coyote had put a couple bits of corn on the hook now and was waiting eagerly, watching as a fish swam to her hook. The coyote waited until he had grabbed at the corn before she wrenched the fish out of the water. Success! The fish was on the hook this time, and Garnet’s eyes sparkled as she reached to grab her hard-earned prize. Unfortunately, the fish gave a tremendous kick of its tail and dropped back into the water with a plop. The female coyote blazed with anger and began to whack the water with her pole as if she was lashing it. ”Damned fish! Die!”

After a few minutes of splashing around and achieving nothing but getting wet, Garnet walked away from the lake shore and looked at Naniko, dripping water from her dark coat. ”Maybe I should try the net…”

Nani didn't know if it was the right kind of reaction for this sort of situation, but she couldn't help but laugh at Garnet's antics. Salem looked a little confused, unsure of why Garnet was smacking the water and about why his mother was laughing about it. Wasn't it bad to hit things? That was what he had always learned, anyway. But maybe water didn't count? He didn't know.

"The net...the net would be great." She chuckled, passing the object over to the younger female. "You should bring the fish over to the dry shore before you try to get it off the hook, or it can fall back into the water. They're kind of tricky like that" She looked to her own still line. "If we wait for a few minutes, they'll come back. But they're kind of skittish, too--they can hear some things that we're doing above the water, I think."
