reflections turn my heart to stone

The voice that pierced through his histerics was almost enough to actually make him stop dead, and yet his fear was still strong. He could hear the words that Jefferson was saying and he wanted to believe them but he'd seem the damage done to the Matriarch and he knew it would be a miricle of the lady survived. He opened his mouth to snap back at Jefferson for the words he spoke but before he was given the chance to speak up Deuce appeared and the silvery hybrid froze. The weariness of the woman shone through as she announced that there was nothing left she could do.

DaVinci glanced towards Jefferson, licking his dry lips nervously as he asked. "Is she going to be ok?" He didn't want to see her, he was afraid to, but he wanted to know what he was to say to his children now who were sitting outside on the porch waiting to seem what had happened and what exactly was going on. He knew that they weren't stupid, that they'd seen the blood and they'd seen everyone gathering around Iskata.. he just didn't know where their pintsized minds had taken their assumptions. Actually he really didn't want to know, he knew how strong a child's imagination could be.

I'm going to close and archive this after this post, if that's okay with everyone. This thread's just about as far as it can get, and it's old old old. ^^;

Deuce called, summoning them back to the room with just a few simple words. The brute's ears flickered somewhat, a scowl returning to his face; the words he's snapped at his gray-furred rival were left hanging idly in the air, though DaVinci appeared ready to bite back at the first chance he could. Instead, though, the creature withdrew again and frowned like an abused puppy, like everything that had happened to the once-majestic Matriarch was his fault. Reason was beyond this pitiful creature, and Jefferson knew to stop trying. Surely he was just as stubborn as his mother was... And the cyclops knew he would be in the same situation later on, trying to convince her she'd be all right. Life went on.

Was she going to be okay? Hell, he didn't know. Jefferson was trying to convince himself so, but the dark, gurgling feeling in the pit of his stomach screamed otherwise. He wanted to tell DaVinci that she would be okay, but he was aware it was not. Things were going to change; the woman was too stubborn to let things remain as they were, especially if she was handicapped in some way as he. The only thing Jefferson could muster for words was, "Tell your kids, DaVinci." A sigh escaped his lips, and he began for the door to the other room, dreading whatever waited there. She could be blinded, handicapped, forever changed. He didn't want to know about it. "We're all still alive," he muttered as he reached for the door. "That's all that matters."
