Bitter for Sweet

p, Soran

A certain feeling came from the rain. It made her heart heavy and her mind slow. It felt like her head was filled with rain clouds that drizzled droplets behind her eyes. She hid behind the safety of the mansion walls, but blue eyes looked out the windows, wishing for the rain to go away.

Winter would soon be on its way, if it weren’t half way here already. There was much to do before its arrival, and it seemed as if many of her friends were off getting ready. Or maybe they were still sleeping in the early morning, but the fey had to much on her mind to stay sleeping.

Her little family was branching out, the pups were leaving the den so quickly and sooner then she knew it they would be all grown up. It was a proud moment, but they worry was starting to control her. The only moments she didn’t feel stressed was when she had Naniko beside her. The white wolfess was a constant source of calm, and even the thought of her made Anu relax.

She stood in the kitchen, forepaws against the cool smooth counter and eyes peering out into the yard that surround the mansion. The small fey stood with her back to the world, praying for the clouds to break and the rain to find another home.

Yay! Hello Smile

push it inIt was awkward reading in her unshifted form, the lady had always known this and yet she still had not bothered to shift into her bipedal form, she was comfortable in her four pawed form for once, a rare thing for Soran, it was true that it made hunting easier, but usually she enjoyed being able to climb the stairs without any trouble and to be able to use her opposable thumbs. This was one of those times, one of those times when she needed her hands really, to be able to hold the book open and to turn the pages with ease, but she was making do with resting a paw on either side of the book, holding it open, her nose almost pressed to the faded aging pages as she scanned the neat black ink that this story was written in, turning the pages gently with her teeth, using a tenderness for this old book that was normally reserved for when she had carried Conri by the scruff of his neck when he had been small, no bigger than Salem or Haven.

push it inThe ebony had been reading for quite some time, her dreams having woken her suddenly, she had found herself shaking and gasping for breath as she watched that little red pup dance around her ankles, that little red boy that she had killed the perfect mix of herself and Hollow, the abomination that had forced her to do something she was sure she would have never done, to take the life of an innocent, a child, she wished beyond anything that she had never done it, but nothing could bring him back, nothing could change what had happened. And nothing would make it right, not that she was out of her mind, in agony and turmoil, not that he was a product of a rape, that was not his fault, nor was it his fault that he looked too much like his father and her, too much like a blend of them to be allowed to live. The lady had forced her window open hard and leant her head out into the freezing rain, and now she lay on the bed, chilled zephyrs billowing through the open pane, bringing with them fine droplets of water, cooling her fevered fur, she was always too hot after she had had a nightmare, especially one as vivid and cruel as that one had been.

push it inSoran was getting tired of reading in this form, her neck aching from having to constantly move to turn the pages, and so she stood up on her large bed, letting the book fall closed, moving to pull the window colsed with her teeth. It was time for an explore she was sure, she had yet to meet many of her packmates and she half hoped that she would meet her granddaughters, having now met bother her grandsons, the glorious pair, one as jet black as her and one as red as his father, it made her smile to see them. She was delighted that she loved them already, unsure that she would, after all she had found it hard to love her younger children, but this was so easy, like breathing, she loved them already, even Mati and Brooklyn who she had not yet met, she was sure she'd love them as well.

push it inThe lady mused over this as she padded down the stairs, wandering absent mindedly, poking her head around doors as she went, finding the rooms empty, perhaps it was too early for the others to be around yet, but yet she still wandered, wondering if perhaps they had all gathered somewhere for an early morning meeting or the like. The fae nudged her way into the kitchen, instantly spying the small grey fae as she entered the room. She smiled, glad to have finally found someone, especially as it was a new face, someone new to talk to. Slowly she cleared her throat, before calling out in a soft voice, "Erm... hello there." She hovered in the doorway slightly awkwardly, waiting for permission to enter the room.

The tapping of the rain against the window filled her mind, a rhythm that she easily sank into. It shadowed her ears and grew louder and louder the more she focused on it. With the hypnotism she felt, her chin lowered so that it rested against the counter. Eyes gazed out the old and thin pane, thoughts coming and going as normal, but she heard none of them. Only the rain.

A voice, soft and sweet. Was it really a voice, or just the tapping of the rain turning into something much more? Her ears perked, and she listened with even more intensity. Maybe she would ear something far different then just the sharp beat of the weather. Nothing came, and she realized that she was asking for way more then the rain was able to offer. With that thought her daze was broken, and she turned to face the speaker.

Hi. The word was automatic, once she found an actual wolf behind her. Eyes adjusted and at first she though that Savina had found her, but after another second of examination it was a different wolfess before her. Who are you? Her words weren’t meant to be rude, and stayed soft and held a curious tone. Far from demanding she gave a small smile, waiting patiently to see whom this new member was. Her scent was familiar, and Anu knew that she was one of them.

So sorry for the wait! The anti-virus fell out with 'souls and I've only just had a chance to get it fixed.

push it inSoran waited patiently, knowing that most of the other wolves in the pack would be of a higher rank to her, even the ones of equal rank she respected, she felt respect for all of her pack mates, this had been her practice in all of her packs, and her pack mates had generally been the same, for respect for all other wolves bred friendship and compassion and loyalty... and ultimately a sense of family, and to the ebony lady that was the best way to be. She had no problem waiting whilst this fae pulled herself out of her thoughts, Soran herself was often lost in her own reveries now, she imagined that when she was deepest in thought, wondering what Rokus would look like now, if he would be as red as his brother, if he would still be wandering around the lands, that it would be hard to pull her away from them quickly.

push it inThe scarred lady's patience paid off and the fae before her turned around. She instantly seemed friendly, asking who she was but in a manner that was by no means threatening, her smile seemed warm and inviting, it was nice to know that the wolves here were indeed welcoming and polite. Soran paused for a moment, wondering how best to proceed, she was unsure if this fae would even know Naniko, let alone what Conri had done to her, though she didn't know if she should take the risk of telling this grey fae her full name. After all her red son had committed a terrible crime, and even though the lady loved him still she knew that others were furious with him, and this pack loved their Alphess, that was clear from the few wolves she had met and the way they loved their pack. She did not know how many of them knew and how many of them would associate him and his actions with his dark mother, how many would hate her for spawning a rapist.

push it inFinally the dark lady decided that honesty was the best policy, after all they would find out who her son was sooner or later, even from just watching how Soran behaved with Naniko, since Conri had first introduced her to the pale female she had seen her as a daughter, and that mentality had not gone away even though Conri had.
"Hi, my name is Soran Aatte, who are you?"She replied finally, returning this grey female's warm smile as she spoke.

sorry for the shortness!

She knew that there was much that was unknown about the history that surrounded her mate. With a family so large, it was almost impossible for Anu to know every detail. With the Aatte name spoke aloud her ears twitched as her mind raced. Aatte, that is my son’s sir name. The words left her mouth before the thoughts were fully possessed. It was hard for her to be collected when her thoughts were on her pups, with all the worrying that she did.

I’m Anu.Speaking as soon as she remembered that this new female had asked the question. The last name was one Anu had wondered about, but with all the names Nani talked about she could only keep two names strait, the first being D’Angelo and second, Church.

No worries Smile

push it inSoran instantly relaxed as the grey female spoke about her son having the ebony lady's last name, so this was Naniko's mate. The lady's green eyes scanned over her again, now more critically, she had wanted to make sure that her pale almost-daughter's chosen love was indeed worthy of her. Little Nani was close enough to the dark pelted woman to be family to her, and although Soran respected her right to chose for herself and to fall in love with whomever she chose, the lady was still curious about her choice of mate. So far the lady was impressed, Naniko had chosen well, the grey girl, Anu, as Soran had been told when she had met Naniko and her small grandson at the borders, seemed polite and sweet. The girl spoke again and Soran smiled, glad that she was happy to formally introduce herself, another box ticked in the dark grandmother's list.

push it inThe green eyed fae could not help but smile as she began to think of an answer to the grey lady's first statement, it hadn't been a question, but the fae felt that she deserved an explanation, it was indeed likely that Soran would be kin to the pups, and therefore to Naniko and Anu, but the grey female wouldn't know that for sure, and so the green eyed fae felt that she deserved to know the truth. But momentarily she was distracted by the very thought of her young grandsons, the little black male who had been so curious and confused about her, unsure of how to answer her questions and the little red boy who bore her surname, he had been so lively, so full of life, so curious, the pair of them were delightful, they were so sweet, so like Naniko and Conri had been when they had been no more than carefree pups. Finally the fae snapped herself out of her reverie, remembering that she was involved in a conversation and couldn't just allow her thoughts to wander to the pups that she wanted to think about, the ones that were blurring out her cloudy images of little dead Rokus.
“Yes, Haven, I met him not long ago actually, he's a wonderful boy and Salem is as well actually, you must be very proud of them. I'm sorry, this must be confusing for you, I haven't explained properly. I'm Naniko's pups' grandmother, their father's mother.” She smiled, speaking carefully, hoping that Anu didn't know of the horrid crime that Conri had committed, she prayed that Anu didn't know, or at least that she wouldn't hold it against his dark mother, she couldn't bear the idea of it anymore than anyone who loved Naniko could.

There would be a day when she would be able to hide her emotions, but she was already past her peak. There might not be any hope for the map of emotion that she wore on her face. It was a sheen of motionless water and with the smallest of disruption showed its exact degree of change. The thought of the Church male made her frown. But he wasn’t the one standing in front of her, and her face soon smoothed and became still. Calm again, Anu focused on how her and Nani’s pups now had a grandmother in their pack.

Such a presence would bring further guidance, something Anu wasn’t against. Though, Anu felt as much possessiveness toward the litter as Naniko and fought the urge to verbally claim them. But Conri wasn’t here to take them from her, a hidden fear the small grey fey owned. Nani has so much family, its hard to remember all the names. Growing more comfortable the relaxation fell into her tight shoulders. Welcome to the pack it was sincere, as true as she could truly make it. She could be mad and upset later, even if there wasn’t and justifiable reason to be so.
