-someone who knows Isk, doesn't matter who.. poor Zana.. I'm so cruel to y characters..-

The elder Sadira wolf had been dozing before the hearth again. It was like the woman didn't even know where her own den within the cottage was anymore. Her nest had laid empty for days, the cold having seeped into the very blankets except for the small spot where Zana's rosy sand hued eyes stared at the great silver and gold beast. She was often kept away from the larger grumpy wolf when there were others in the home but DaVinci and Skylar had disappeared and been gone for a bit of time. The small pup had no clue where the others had gone but she was growing cold and the warm hues of the other's coat looked so inviting that before she could even think about anything that might changer her mind her tiny rump was wiggling and soon her thin little legs had wobbled her out of the blankets and across the room towards the sleeping figure of Iskata.

Her ears twitched lightly in the warmth of the fire as she dreamed of sunlight on her pelt and the alpha rock she'd spent so much time sunning on in her time as a member of Clouded Tears. Paws dangling over the edge as she'd sleep away the afternoon til evening took over and the world faded fast into fireflies and dusky haze. There had been so much happiness there in those strange lands, pain and sorrow, but happiness as well. The warm memories mixed with the heat from the fire made her paws twitch as a soft smile seemed to linger on her lips.

Tiny paws carried a small frame tittering and tottering across the wooden floor, the closer she drew the warmer the air became. The tiny girl grew excited suddenly, her small rump wiggling happily as she slipped and slid closer and closer towards the female. Her eyes sparkled in the firelight as she circled the large slumbering wolf, her eyes watching the muzzle of the elder creature twitching as suddenly she found herself distracted by those twitching whiskers. Without so much as a warning the small golden red frame pounced on her mother who was secretly disguised as a stranger, her little nails and teeth worrying at the nose and muzzle of the poor sleeping Iskata.

The brilliantly sparkling world was suddenly replaced with acid, smoke, darkness and pain. She snarled in panic and snapped her head up. Attempting to backpedal away from the pain that had suddenly disappeared she was thrown into a state of confusion as suddenly the screaming and smell of singed fur and flesh filled the air. Iskata had no clue what was going on or what had just happened but the horrible screaming sound wouldn't end, so she did the only thing she could and howled mournfully as she crashed into a table and wedged herself into the corner between the wall and couch.

She'd only wanted tp play with the strange wolf who seemed to be so warm and cuddly, she hadn't known that she would make the stranger angry. She wouldn't have come so close if she'd thought she would be in trouble.. but yet before she could even be scowled she found herself flung into the air by the end of the wet nose of the silver and gold wolf. Zana landed with a spark of flames and embers in the middle of the fireplace, the logs scattering as suddenly everything was too warm and she found herself writhering in pain. Falling onto the stones before the fireplace the small puppy wailed and yowled as she twisted to and fro, her small mouth gaping open as the horrible sound filled the world she'd once known in a simple yet happy nature.

The world was winter white and Pepe blended in perfectly when he was outside. The white male had spent a lot of his time exploring Phoenix Valley and learning a strange new way of life. He had spent the last two nights exclusively in the barn learning how to take care of the cattle. The concept of keeping domestic animals really fascinated him. He still found it hard to believe that the cows weren't for hunting. As a predator by nature, it was very strange to care for the herd of cattle instead to hunt it down. But he was getting very good at herding and corraling them into the barn and milking them. Whenever he got tired, he just slept in the loft of the barn. He wanted to be useful to his new pack and the white man was a dedicated creature. Whenever he tried to learn something, he immersed himself 100%.

But the white man really missed seeing Iskata. He had tried to give her some space since the pack meeting. She had seemed really shaken up. He figured that his mom needed her breathing room, although he still popped in every few days to check up on her and visit her. He was coming to really love his mom's youngest puppy, Zana. She was a little sweetheart.

He was in lupus form when he got to the cottage, so he couldn't knock on the door very well. He pawed and scratched at it and waited for a minute to let Iskata know someone was there then he went in. He pushed the door open and walked in. A terrible smell reached his nose and he nearly choked. Something alarming and wrong was going on and it took a minute for his mind to register what was going on. "Iskata?" he called and looked around. His ocean blue eyes widened when he saw the fireplace. "Zana! ZANA!"

The male rushed forward headfirst into the fireplace. Flames licked at his fur and around his eyes. He had to close his eyes against the heat, but he reached for Zana with his jaws, not particular about what part of her he grabbed before he yanked her out of the fire. He shook his head to clear his nose of smoke, putting the babe on the floor as carefully as possible in his rush. He looked around for the first thing he could find, panic stricken, and tore a pillow throw blanket from the couch, covering Zana to smother any flames on her small body.

Iskata was cornered by the screams in the darkness. She knew who's voice it was but she didn't want to believe what she knew had just happened. She'd been in a dead sleep when the assult had happened and before she could even stop to think she'd sent her own child careening into the fireplace. The blind woman's own screams were too much as she believed that she'd killed her own daughter. It seemed in a split second the door had been opened and the scent of burning flesh and smoke were disapating as the voice of Pepe rang over the yowls that were slowly fading from her young daughter's voice.

Zana had no clue what she'd done, she'd just wanted to play with the warm fuzzy lady who was always around but never paid her any attention. She'd thought that for once she'd get all the elder wolf's attention and yet something had happened and all she could feel was pain and smell a horrid smell. Her throat was hoarse from screaming as she sat thrashing about in the fireplace. Another voice called out above hers and even one more joined the chaotic sounds in the room as suddenly she felt herself being pulled out of the flames. Then there was darkness as she felt something wrapped around her, the heat disappearing but the throbbing pain seemed to blossom along her hindlegs, rump and tail. She closed her eyes and lay there panting as it all seemed over so quickly.

The elder Sadira closed her eyes tight as she began to sob, her paws scraping over hear ears as though she could drive the sound out of her mind. She couldn't see the work that Pepe was doing to kill the flames that had just begun to lick at Zana's body, she didn't know that the girl was even alive anymore, all she knew was that this had all been her fault. She should have been more careful, she should never have been in the same room as the child, she should have been awake. A million thoughts flickered through her mind as she sobbed, the sounds of the wailing extinguished from the room as Pepe had finished his work.

There really wasn't that much damage done to the small puppy, her rump was slightly blistered and the back of her heels as well, most of the problem was her poor once fluffy tail. Where there had been silky soft fur moments before was deminished to half that, singed and pathedic looking with a stick of bright red burnt tail sticking out the end. Zana whimpered and cried as she tried to move away from the creamy white male who was helping her. She wanted her Dabi but he wasn't here. She had just wanted to play..

The white man gingerly lifted the blanket from Zana's tiny body. He really didn't know what to expect as he unveiled her, hoping that the damage wouldn't be permanent or horrific. He just couldn't imagine the pain that young girl had gone through. His heart pounded in his chest. Iskata's sobs fueled his discomfort and uncertainty. Zana's screams had quieted to whimpers, which he supposed was good, but still everything wasn't right, and listening to Iskata's heart-breaking sobs he doubted it would be a long time before things were okay again.

The damage to the puppy wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. He exhaled a thankful sigh. He didn't think the damage would be permanent, although it would need attention soon. It would need to be kept clean. And the babe was obviously still uncomfortable. She tried to squirm out of his grasp and he didn't blame her. She was obviously confused and scared. He took her gently and turned her over onto her stomach to keep her from scraping up the worst of the damage.

"Iskata," he called over her wailing. He tried to keep his voice gentle. "Everything is okay. Zana is going to be okay." He took the small struggling girl's scruff into his mouth and carried her over toward Iskata. It might scare her to be so close to the silvery gold woman but he needed to make sure she was okay too. On top of that, he also needed her help. He had no idea how to help the tiny girl. He needed Iskata calm and focused. He needed her advice. He needed someone that was for sure.

He walked over to the blind woman and bumped his flanks against her side. He put his neck close to her nose, to let her breathe his scent and let her know that he was here and that he'd take care of her as much as he was able. He bumped against her a few more times, inching her toward the door. He used his bulk to push her in that direction and headed out the door. He wouldn't leave Zana alone or put her down.

He took the little girl outside, down the steps of the porch and settled her blistered body into the snow. He didn't know much about burn wounds. But he knew that it would help if her burns were kept cold and clean. The snow provided the opportunity for relief and cleanliness until someone more qualified could help the little one. "It is gonna be okay, Zana. I'll take care of you. Nothing will happen to you." He wasn't sure if the little girl could understand him. He kept his voice gentle and cajoling. He wanted her to be as calm as possible. He nuzzled her very gently and moved to stand over her, so that her body on the ground was just under his chest between his front legs. It was snowing lightly and he wanted to shelter her as much as possible.

He turned his attention toward the door of the house. "Iskata, I need your help for Zana. She's been burned. I don't know how to take care of her. Do you know someone who can help her? Can you?" He kept the pitch of his voice low and soothing as he could. He needed Iskata. He wasn't one to panic but he didn't know what more he could do yet.

Iskata didn't know what was going on until Pepe moved closer and she could hear his voice above the wails that she came to realize were coming from her own throat. The soft voice that seemed to try and hush her frantic wails began to take affect as she realized she could hear the soft whimpers and cries of Zana a distance away. She could smell the scent of the girl growing closer as Pepe moved towards her. Her heckles rose as she snapped at the young man. "Keep her away.." she growled roughly as she stood firm. She didn't want the child anywhere near her, she didn't want to smell the scent or known the child she had almost killed was that close.

Her muscles shook as she bared her fangs at the boy and his bundle that was waving before his nose. She felt the touch of his flank as he tried to get her to move along. He outweighed her and soon he was bullying her along out of the corner she'd pressed herself into. Stumbling along she restrained snapping at the boy, if it had been anyone else she probably would have laid fangs into them but instead she let him move her along. She finally balked as he had her out in the open. She did not want that puppy touching her or even close enough to accidently brush against her. She could hear the movement as Pepe abandoned her there and the icy blast of the winds as he seemed to be going outside.

Zana sat there limp in his jaws as he brought her closer to the one who had caused her the pain. She whimpered and moaned as she closed her eyes tight and hoped that if she couldn't see the monster the monster couldn't see her. Little did she know that the monster never had been able to see her in the first place. Soon the scent of the scary woman was replaced with cold brisk air that brought all sorts of scents to her and made the pain seem to faint. Opening her eyes again she was met with the brilliant world of the outdoors. The soot in her eyes made everything a little blurry but soon she found herself in the cold white substance but instead of shivering and crying from the cold she found the pain beginning to dull away.

She felt the frame of the while male move over her as she peered up at Pepe. Zana knew the boy slightly but she didn't want him there. She wanted Jebs or Dabi but they were both missing and she was stuck with the snow man and the monster that was lurking in the doorway. Hiding behind the male's forelegs she cries as he began talking to the creature that had hurt her.

Iskata stood in the hallway shaking as she came to the truth that she had done this to her child. That her child had almost died and now was maimed because she had been left along with the girl and now look what she'd done. When Pepe called out to her she moved towards the door til he could see her but she refused to move out into the open. When he asked for her help she hissed mornfully. "I can't help her.. I nearly killed her!" The woman wasn't stupid but she didn't want a thing to do with the child. She was the reason Zana was needing help right now. She bared her fangs as she whined. "Take her to Deuce or Naniko! I'm useless!" Iskata couldn't and wouldn't help the male. She didn't want to hear those little whimpers that were coming from between the male's forelegs.. they were already engraved in her mind.. she didn't want them written on her heart and cut into her soul every time she was in the same room.

Pepe hated to be stuck this way. It seemed as though he had to make a choice, a choice between his mother and her small puppy. But there really wasn't any choice to make. Although his heart ached to go to Iskata and to embrace her, his duty was clearly with the small Zana. She couldn't help herself. He hoped Iskata would come out of the despair he heard in her voice, but for now he had to focus on more important matters.

He looked down at Zana's beautiful little face. She was so obviously scared. He wished that Davinci was there to comfort her. He would know what to do. But he didn't know where to find DaVinci, and he had no idea who Naniko was. That left the yellow and blue eyed white lady he had met before.

He threw his head back and let a howl ring out into the sky. It rang clear as a bell, the sound resonating on the wind. He called for help, whoever could and would give it. He didn't know the best place to take Zana, but here seemed to be the best place to stay. The cottage was a well known pack area. Someone would come. Someone had to. If not, he'd take Zana whereever he needed to.

Deuce had been on her way to check on the cattle when the howl had rang out. She frowned, quickening her pace. Willow was in the pack at her side. Though her eyes and ears had opened, she wasn't active enough to make the journey from Iskata's house to here on her own. So as usual, Deuce carried her in the pack at her side, the flap open so Willow could see the world.

Deuce arrived a few moments after the frantic howl had been issued. She could see pepe standing over something on the porch, and Iskata sobbing insode. The pale woman frowned. "Whats going on??"

There was little she could do to keep him from calling out for help though she wished that she could have. The whole of the pack didn't need to know what she'd nearly done to her daughter but now they'd know something was wrong. She knew the way the pack worked, she knew how gossip flied in their territories. Her ears were pinned against her head as she clawed at the floor of the cottage in sorrow and frustration. She hated herself, she hated everything about what she was now and there was nothing she could do to make it any different than what her world had once been like.

The tears streamed down her face as she worried at the floor, the dispair building in her chest as the seconds pasted by and the cries of Zana wouldn't go away. She tried covering her ears again and yet it seemed another voice had joined in the chaos. Her heart pounded as her nails raked through her own fur, her voice high pitched as she spat. They shouldn't have left her alone! How was I to know!" The tones became even shriller as she sulked backwards into the darkness of the cabin. "Accident.. It was an accident!" Her mind was frail as it was and the present situation was breaking down her last defenses.

Pepe could have melted with relief when Deuce showed up. He was at a loss for what to do. Iskata's sobs ripped at his heart, but he refused to abandon his mother's youngest child. He could only imagine the pain the little one was in. He wished so much that he could relieve it, but he was glad that Deuce was here now. He only hoped she'd have a clue about how to treat the puppy.

"There was an accident," the white man echoed his mother. Her cries ripped at his soul. But they also confirmed the truth in her words. There was so much madness and guilt and sorrow in her voice. There was no way she could have done this on purpose, as warped as the accidnet had made her. He was sure of it.

"Zana was in the fireplace when I found her. Her back end has been burned. I don't know how badly. I brought her outside to cool her off, I thought it would help." There was a little helplessness in his voice. He leaned back slightly to reveal the red colored puppy. He felt like he shouldn't step away from her though. She needed to know he wouldn't abandon her.
