We still kill the old way

Firefly just ignored the lot of them as the bickering and chatter continued from all sides. She gritted her teeth in frustration and lashed her tail angerly, her eyes watching the others of the pack as Haku decided to set out on the hunt. Firefly stood up and stalked back and forth before turning to the two pups. "Come now. We'll have to make certain the deer don't attempt to escape or it will be our hides." She trotted after the rest of the pack, her eyes trailing on the puppies for a second before she shook the snow from her pelt and sped up after the rest of the pack. She wasn't about to be left behind, even if the puppies wanted to be.

The golden bronze woman could feel the blood racing as her eyes dashed back and forth between the doe and the stag that had been so foolish to be caught in the game. She could tell that the doe was well enough taken care of by Cwmfen and Lubo but she snapped out to Flayra. "Watch the doe, make certain she doesn't escape their grasp, scare her back to them if you have to!" she called as she made a dash after the stag who was on the tail of Haku and the others who were off chasing the stag.

Her swollen belly made it hard for her to adapt but within moments she found her footing and with her ears pinned back in determination she chuckled to herself. "Svara, can you keep up?" she taunted back to the dark hued kid as she raced off after the pack once more. The weight of the puppies about her abdomen made the work twice as hard but she didn't care, she was going to show her damnable mate she was still useful and he couldn't just throw her off to the side.

OOC: Why am I always late to the party? D: 500+

Lubo, huh? Lubomir snarled slightly, but he did not act on it. Not only was it a remarkably stupid idea, but with everyone here the last thing he wanted to do was start a fight with Haku. The complaints from the puppies made his patience stretch even thinner and he impaciently rolled his eyes. What would life really be like after Firefly gave birth to her own? The more he thought about it the stranger it seemed. When he'd first met Haku, he had honestly believed that he shared a common goal with the chocolate male. But now not so much. He spent time in Mew's den but not a lot of time with Mew herself. Not even he could say exactly why. And all the while the pups and Firefly whined and whined, their voices a distraction to his thoughts.

Finally they started moving and Lubomir joined the strange marked wolf. Cwmfen, Haku had said. Lubomir returned the smile and eased somewhat. Soon he would have to speak to her. She fascinated him, with her eyes and markings and demeanour. He wondered where she stood in the pack, where she came from. His mind drifted again and he found himself thinking of stories of her life, the way she had ended up here, who she really was. He smiled to himself. Of course, Lubomir, just cure your boredom by making up fairy tales about someone you don't know. Real smart right there. Now though the time for action had come. The hunt was on.

Initially, Lubomir held back slightly, waiting to ascertain how Cwmfen would act. Running would tire him out, he knew. He could certainly keep up for now but if he exerted himself too much he would fall behind and leave the female open. Gritting his teeth, he plowed on, picking up speed. The rush of the hunt made the adrenaline course ever faster through his body and for once, the grey male felt like a small part of something big. He had hunted only sporadically in the Old Country, his relation to the Alpha female guaranteeing him the free food. It had not made him overly popular but back then such things seemed trivial. Now, if he wanted to gain any respect in the pack he would have to put his back into it. The doe, frightened, bolted and ran towards them. How easy, really.

Speed and agility and he really admired the female for doing so much work. With a burst of speed the grey male was upon his prey, his eyes glinting with hunger and something akin to madness. His teeth snapped and teased, until it became clear that the kill would be his. This was certainly a startling turn of events. Now was no time to philosophise. His jaw grabbed the doe's neck in a vice, snapping it. He tore it, feeling the blood rush into his mouth, staining his muzzle and fur. Warm, sweet and warm, like the liquor of the gods. It flowed through him and with a savage howl, Lubomir announced he and Cwmfen's victory over the doe. Panting from all the running, he had the grace to turn to the female and nod his appreciation. "Thank you, lady, for that kill. Next time I shall gracefully offer it to you." He licked the blood on his muzzle in obvious satisfaction. Joy was clearly etched on his face.

ooc: Cercelee asked me to skip her, since she's all kinds of busy and we want this thread to keep moving forward. Smile

I've got soul but I'm not a soldier

Haku feinted left as suddenly the action exploded into reality. Slay watched from the corner of his eye as Cwmfen and Lubomir succeeded with their doe, and a small smile crept onto his muzzle. Now was not the time to space out, though! The silent air was rent with abrupt noise - the crashing of hooves, the barks and cries of the wolves as they closed in on their prey, the short breaths of Cercelee at his side. The stag would be theirs!

Pale eyes narrowed, the big arctic male lunged forward, directly on the trail of the powerful buck. Haku's fleeing hindquarters were in danger of those curving antlers, but the deer had failed to guard his own. The muscles in his haunches rippled, launching him onto his prey's back. The hart trumpeted a warning cry, his balance thrown off by the huge weight on his back. Tossing his antlers and snorting with fury, he abandoned his chase, turning his attention to the wolf snapping at his shoulders.

"...Gotcha now," Slay snarled, excitement lighting a wild grin on his whiskery muzzle. The struggle might only last a few brief seconds, but the thrill of the hunt was truly to be savored. As the buck's hind legs buckled under the added weight, Cercelee was there like a white flash, snapping at its forelegs, distracting the confused and panicking animal. The stag's eyes rolled back white, and he tossed his head, hoping to gore whatever wolf dared go for the throat. When Slay had hunted alongside Cwmfen, he had taken a kick just below the ribs; this time he would not make the same mistake. The ebony-daubed male dug his blunt claws into the deer's soft hide, ducking below the flailing rack, and closed his vice-like jaws about the beast's slender throat. With a wrenching twist, Slay ended its life in a spurt of hot blood, letting the head dangle limply from its broken spine. The rearguard was now safe.

One last round of replies and we are done here. Thank you all for participating! I will make sure to add your game points when the thread is done. 400+

He had lost his overview over the hunt, because impressive antlers were right behind him, and he knew they could do permanent damage if the deer caught up with him. His limbs worked on full speed, and Haku’s tongue already hung out of his mouth like a piece of dead meat. The dove had fallen, but Haku did not even notice as he had more important things to focus on. A heavy fall sounded, and the chase had ended in a fountain of red from the stag’s throat. Haku slowed down and turned around to face the scene. His lungs screamed for more air than he could provide, and he stood there panting for a while, watching the scene. He gave out a loud bark, primarily directed to the puppies and Firefly that the hunt was over and successful.

He was quite surprised. It had all happened so fast. The stag was clearly visible, and not too far away, he believed he could spot Lubomir and Cwmfen’s forms over something brown and crimson. He was puzzled. The hunt had gone extremely well, and he could not fully understand how it had gone so smoothly. He did not disapprove of course. They had gotten down two fully grown animals almost instantly. There would be fresh meat for days, and a lot that could be stored away. He gulped down several mouthfuls of air before he walked towards Cercelee and Slay standing over the stag. He looked up at the oddly coloured male with something similar to admiration in his eyes. He was impressed by the canine’s quick acting. Feel free to start the meal. He offered a respectful nod to the male before he turned and found his way to the dove.

Well done. The male said to the two wolves. Haku’s mouth was dry and his fangs unused, which did not please him, but it was his own fault. The stag had charged straight away, which was very unusual. It had just been a coincidence. Lets drag it to the rest of the hunting party. Cercelee always fancied them feast on the animals afterwards, and he supposed it would be more social if they did not split into two groups. He slightly hoped they would only go on one of the animals, so that the other could be parted and shared out amongst the present wolves. Haku was well up for the job of being the butcher. He never ate after a hunt. Not while there were still things left to do.

He dug his fangs deep into the dove’s front leg and slowly started to drag the game towards its dead mate.

Svara watched them go after the deer and sneered. She really hated being useless. Watching the gimpy wimp of a white pup sit off in a corner and sulk about life. It made Svara roll her eyes and sit next to firefly content enough to keep her mouth shut for now. when every one started off Svara took the commands of Firefly making sure to do as the pregnant female did. Her yellow eyes made sure to watch the others wolfs and learn from them. All of their shifting and fainting around the deers.

Firefly's words made Svara spring forwards. She ran beside the very pregnant female keeping up with no effort. If anything her long legs gave her the advantage of speed and flexablity. "I think I'm doing a good job of keeping up with you preggers!" Svara commented as she kept up with the female ready to do what was needed when the female told her to.

OOC:: Sorry this is so crappy Sad

The female was not disappointed, for the male did indeed take that opportunity that she provided for him. The woad warrior struggled only momentarily with the frantic prey animal before she caught the male’s fatal attack in her peripheral vision. The deer was afraid and thus irrational, and its throat was laid bare fore the male hunter to take. And he took it. The smell of fresh blood permeated through the air like a sweet perfume as the snap of both the jaws and the neck cut through the air, and as she felt the strength of the animal weaken, the black female allowed herself to remove her jaws from the animal’s side. And then the struggling had stopped, and the doe was dead. It had been an easy hunt, but it had not made the experience less. As Lubomir howled briefly of their victory, the female smiled and stood aside, as if the dead animal needed the extra space. Curtly, her white gaze searched across the field for the others, and she found that their deer had been felled as well. She was glad that the pack had achieved both of their goals, for it spoke of their competence and hence their ability to survive.

Cwmfen’s attention was returned to Lubomir. She nodded in return as he turned toward her. The grey male had demonstrated his competence, and so her opinion of him increased. A light laughter like silver toned bells and a smile that showed her white fangs was her only response to his words. She would enjoy that—to feel the life of such a large prey wither beneath her. She had yet to experience such a thing. This hunt had been her second deer hunt, the first having been with Slay. In both occasions, she had allowed the males to complete the kill, not that she held any sort of resentment because of that. But perhaps at their next meeting she would be able to have a try at it. She wondered of when Lubomir spoke, but her thoughts were suddenly broken when Haku arrived from across the way. The smile faded as her gaze lifted to greet the approaching Lilium.

She nodded silently to the superior male’s complement. He seemed discontent, but she knew it was not about the outcome of the hunt. Yet, she was not aware of what had occurred with the hunt of the stag for she had been occupied with the doe, and she could not understand now what it was that troubled him. And yet, that was a mere trifle. With a graceful leap, the female placed herself near the chocolate Lilium, taking up her own grip upon the deer as she helped drag it to the others. She wondered why she had placed herself in such proximity to the male, for she was only placing herself in a place that made her question many things. The white orbs looked up to find Lubomir as she interrupted her own thoughts and she smiled with her eyes for her mouth was full.

OOC: YAY!!! I'm back Big Grin

She was almost lulled to sleep until she caught a glimps of Firefly and Svara walking off. She jumped to her feet and started to follow them, but kept a safe distance away from them. She didn't want to get in an argument that is between the two females. She just followed behind, being such a good, quiet little girl. She didn't show any sign weakness because she didn't want any more abusive remarks from the mean Svara. There was inner hatred in the white pups heart. There was a part of her that wished Svara well, but there was also a part that wanted her to suffer pain. Make her feel the pain that she inflicted upon other pups her age and the other people aswell.

Coming into sight of the rest of the rest of the group, Flay was pleased about the hunt. All went well and no one got hurt. The white pup soon then caught up with the two females in front, then went past them, coming up beside the lilium. She looked at the catch to Haku then back to the catch. She had the say, the teamwork was extrordinary. Mabye Flay can ask for some pointers. "I must say, nice work."

Just as quickly as it had begun the hunt was over and Firefly was slowly down as she came upon the scene before her. The laughter from Svara made her just grunt as the kid teased her about how easy it was to keep up with her. Firefly looked over the kill her mate had made before she commented to Svara, "Ask Cercelee or Haku if there's anything he needs you for.." She heard the voice of the other child behind her as sher ears flatted against her skull. Hadn't she told the girl to keep an eye on the deer the other team was chasing down. Her fur bristled slightly before she growled slightly, "The same goes for you, and listen better next time when I speak to you." Firefly just turned back to the scene before her and looked over the kill for a second before sighing to herself and turning away from the group.

She suddenly didn't feel like being a part of the hunt, Haku had wanted to make her feel worthless and when it came down to it she did. She had been reminded before the whole of the pack that she was more trouble in her state than she was help and had to linger in the background instead of being part of the actual thrill of the hunt. She bared her fangs at the whole of it all before slipping into the woods and following the waters away from where her pack and family stood celebrating the kills that would keep them well fed for a while.

OOC: I'm high on the Winchester love <3 300+

And just like that, it was all over. Lubomir took the time to lick his muzzle clean before watching Haku come over to where he and Cwmfen were. The resentment flared once more in the grey male's eyes, but he suppressed it quickly enough. Now was really not the time to start anything like this. He tried to view everything in a positive light. Here he was, the killer of the doe and there would be meat for days now. No matter how quickly they would go through it there would still be enough left to store. Mew would feast from his kill. It made his heart swell with pride. In a way, he felt alone without her. Firefly and Haku he wanted to avoid as much as possible, Cwmfen he'd only just met. The pups were still small on his list of potential acquaintances. That, of course, left Slay and Cercelee, but neither of them made Lubomir wet himself with anticipation.

He was not foolish enough to glare openly at Haku so instead he bowed his head and grabbed one of the doe's legs, helping the Lilium and the female drag the body towards the others. It was over. A successful hunt. He paused to congratulate himself, not on anything he'd done in particular, but on standing his ground and proving to those around him, who might not know the history between Lubomir, Haku and Firefly, that he was a good addition to the pack and worth keeping around for more than just Mew's satisfaction. It amused him, in a way, to find that he still thought of her so fondly. Perhaps Bane had been right and all he needed to do was muster the courage to tell her how he really felt. It would be tough, yes, but the prospect of happiness was enough for him. What was, truly, a life lived without hope?

Reaching the rest of the pack, Lubomir dropped his part of the meat and waited for what would come next. His eyes sought Cwmfen and he smiled back. Truly he liked the female. Perhaps one day he would get to meet her again and understand why she piqued his interest. Throwing his head back and disregarding all need for self-preservation, Lubomir howled with joy and satisfaction. Finally, after so many months of travel and exhaustion, he had found a place he could call "home".
