Getting her strength back was taking longer than she’d thought; every step she made took effort. She didn’t realize how sick she had really been. The fact that she’d been too sick to do anything but lay down didn’t help either; now her legs shook as she tried to walk across the snow. Dierdre was ready to go out and explore the territory again, meet new people…she didn’t want to wait for her body to catch up.

She went along a well traveled path through the forest, heading away from her and Pilot’s den. She’d just spoken with him at the river and they’d slid around on the ice a little. He made her so happy all the time-she didn’t know how she’d ever gotten along without him before. Even thinking about him again made her tail wag.

She wanted to do something for him, but she wasn’t sure what she could do. He was everything to her; he’d been there before she’d gotten sick, and had helped her the entire time that she had been out. She’d given him a necklace before, one with an arrowhead on it…but she wanted to do something more. Maybe make some sort of a painting or sculpture. Or find him something really, really interesting in the human city that he would like. Would he like a knife? Or maybe she’d be able to find a really interesting book. He did like to read.

Dierdre sighed, looking ahead as she walked. What could she get him that he’d really enjoy?
