Dampwoods

Dabi had placed lavender ribbons on her tail that day and they wrapped all the way from the middle to the tip where the tiny bit of fluff waved in the air. He'd placed a nice big bow on the end and the little hybrid girl twitched her tail back and forth, making the ribbons snap in the slight breeze as she wrinkled her nose. The small girl liked the ribbons but she'd also once liked her fluffy tail, now she mourned it daily. She was awfully young to start being vain, but she'd really, really, really, liked her beautiful silky tail. Her oversized ears were pinned back against her skull as she stared down at her knobby knees and oversized paws. She had decided that she was going to run away that morning after Dabi and Jebbers had sent her outside to play.

The scary scarred up monster had been grumbling away in the corner that morning and Zana had swore that she'd been glaring at her with those pinkish white orbs again. A shiver slide down her back as she sat in the middle of the woods all alone. She knew she could always follow her paws back to the packlands but she didn't want to go back there, she wanted to get far far away from the monster that stalked her dreams. She sniffled to herself as she pawed at her little ribbonwrapped tail and closed her greyed lilac eyed. She was a big girl, she wasn't going to cry. Dabi and Jebbers never cried, she was a little lady all grown up now. This had been her choice.

Geneva trodded through the snow, grateful there had been a break in the storms. She had spent a lot of time outside as of late, and though she was growing used to the cold, she still quite disliked it. She was now exploring a new territory today, as was her custom every few days. With each outing, her discomfort disappated and she found it easier to leave Crimson Dreams. There was something about home that always called to her, but her insecurities were becoming things of the past.

A bright flare of color caught her eyes. She meandered toward the color, so out of place in the landscape of grays and whites. Geneva herself blended well with the scenery, her light gray pelt a complement to everything around her. The light purple was certainly something strange to see. Her eyes widened when she saw a small pup. She wagged her tail slightly. "Hey pretty girl. Are you lost?" she asked, trotting into view.

Zana's large oversized ears drooped, her whiskers drooped, even her bandaged tail drooped as she realized that she was just plain and simply lost. She sniffled at the snow that was beginning to fall as she shivered and shook. Just when she was about to curl up in a ball and cry herself to sleep it seemed that a voice called out in the great big world.

She turned her lilac orbs up to the stranger, her eyes bright with tears as she whimpered, "I's lost.. can'ts find daddy.." Ok, so she didn't lie to the lady, she was triyng to find her daddy and the clan he lived in, but she really wasn't lost yet, she could just turn around and wander herway back to Phoenix Valley but the monster resided in Phoenix Valley and she was tired of the nightmares that followed her around in her dreams and grumbled from the corner in real life. She sniffled, her little nose running as she blinked up at the greyscaled lady.

Geneva blinked when the girl turned her violet colored eyes upon her. She had been right in her estimation that the puppy was beautiful. She was an elegant little girl, even with the ribbon wrapping all around her tail. She could see that the ribbons probably hid an injury. She wondered what had happened, but didn't ask. It seemed that the girl had other problems.

Her brows furrowed and she came a little closer to the girl. She wished she could be a normal, useful wolf. She could have just tried to catch the scent from Zana and tracked her father down. But unfortunately, things couldn't be that easy. Geneva had next to no use of her nose. Sometimes she felt as though she was going through the world blind.

She inhaled slightly, but could only get the slightest breath of a scent off the girl. That frustrated her to no end, but there had to be another way. "My name is Geneva. What's yours?" she asked, trying to calm the little girl. Although she wasn't panicking, it was obvious she was upset. "I'll try to help you find your daddy, or find someone who can help you find him."

Zana flicked her oversized ears back as the lady came closer and settled down near her. She blinked her gray lavender eyes at the stranger with the brilliant spring orbs as she pouted so as the woman have her name and asked her own. "Prwetty Jennev..I is Zana.." she said with a series of sniffles as she tried to wipe her eyes on her paw. She really wanted to get to the beach where everyone seemed to think her father lived but she wasn't exactly sure where to go. How she'd actually found the correct direction in the first place had been a mystery beyond mysterious.

When the grey wolf announced that she'd try and help her Zana's eyes brightened as she tried to stop from crying, one last little shuttering sob broke from her throat followed by a hiccup as she turned those trusting eyes to the wolfess. "weaaally? Find da-ddy!" she said excitedly, she wouldn't have to go back to the grumbling monster who glared at her with those eyes that they said she couldn't see her with.. but Zana knew better, she knew the monster could see her, how could she not with that glare she wore when Zana walked across the floor.

The world brightened with the red pup's smile. She couldn't help but return the expression, her teeth gleaming from the small smile on her face. The gray wolfess would do everything in her power to set the little one on the right path. "Hello Zana," she said softly. The pup had a lovely name to go with her beautiful looks. She'd certainly have all the boys chasing after her when she grew up.

But for now there was only one male for her to worry about, and that was her father. Geneva thought for a moment, looking down at her. Did she know anyone who shared the little girl's looks? The only other wolf she knew of that had purple eyes was Mati. But this puppy didn't look like she belonged to Naniko at all. She looked more exotic. Like a...

Coyote. That would be her answer. Geneva didn't know Inferni's reputation or anything about its members. But she did know that there was a clan of coyotes farther inland. Perhaps that was where her father resided. "Come this way, Zana. I think I know where to find creatures who might know your father," she said. She started walking slowly in the direction of the coyote clan, waiting for the girl to follow.

The small russet gold puppy stared bright eyed up at the lady, the smile that they shared was small and fleeting but Zana shyly replied back to her savior. "Hewwo.." She was being so shy and silly at the notion of being addressed by another that she hardly knew. Her little paws shifted in the snow as he watched the stranger who was no longer a stranger, no now she was her hero. She would lead her out of the woods and help her find the place where her father must reside. A place with no monsters.

Like a trusting loyal little pup Zana squeaked happily and tried to follow after the woman, her short little legs floundering in the snow as she tried to keep up with the woman. A pout spread across her little lip as she whined. "S'ana gots widdle wegs.. hards to keep ups!"[/b she exclaimed as she tried hopping from pawprint to pawprint left in the snow from the other before her.

She stopped for a moment panting as she asked suddenly. [b]"Whas a crweature?"
She had no clue she was really any different than the wolf before her. How was she to know she was strange to the rest of the world.

"A creature is something that is alive - like you or me," Geneva answered. Those big purple eyes blossomed like flowers in her face. She was glad that she had found the beautiful little girl. At least for this stretch of the little girl's search, she would be safe. Geneva wouldn't let anything happen to her.

Zana was too small to travel alone. She wondered if she had been lost, or abandoned. The little one seemed so unsure of her path. Geneva imagined that if she had been separated from her father at such a young age, she would have been confused too. She thought back to her father, his beloved figure hazy as her mind took her back through childhood memories. He had been her rock, her hero. She was certain that the sun would rise every morning simply because he said it would. She was older now and knew better, but she didn't know where she'd be today without her dad.

She slowed down before beginning to ask Zana questions, "Have you seen your dad in a while?"

She blinked at the woman and shyly hid her face behind her stocky little puppy legs as she asked. "Why crweatures.. that's a funneh name." she said simply as she struggled after the woman, hopping from pawprint to pawprint that she'd left in the snow as she panted. Her tail whipped around back and forth behind her, the ribbons snapping as she concentrated on getting to the next pawprint in the snow.

She whined softly as she realized that she couldn't keep hoping from pawprint to pawprint and finally she just crashed through the snow, her cold little paws wanting to stop but she wasn't going to complain, she'd just found someone to take her to find her daddy, why would she complain already!

She licked a large snowflake off her nose as she realized that it was getting easier to keep up with the lady, not realizing that the woman had slowed down her own pace for the small puppy. Her eyes crossed slightly as she listened to the words of her guardian for a day. "Noo.. nots seen.." she said honestly. She hadn't seen him in a long time, like in forever.

"Hmmm..." Geneva intoned thoughtfully, stopping for a moment so the puppy could catch up. Geneva wasn't a large wolfess by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, she was very small - just not petite, but also compact. Her build was similar to that of a wolf close to adolescence. She and Zana actually shared a very similar body type.

The grayscale wolfess let her green eyes scan the lands around her. She had no idea what Inferni's reputation was, or if this little girl belonged to a loner instead. But she figured that the coyotes wouldn't turn a little girl away. She knew Crimson Dreams wouldn't. It was obvious this girl's blood was mixed, but there was a definite sign of coyote genes.

"I don't know how lucky we'll be finding your actual dad, Zana," Geneva said, truthfully. The child might be upset, but she seemed to be a mature little lady. And Geneva wanted to be straightforward with her and not lead her astray. "I think the best I can do to help you is take you to others who might know where he is. Do you understand?"

When she noticed that the larger lady had stopped Zana's breath grew to huffs of excitement as she plowed forward to catch up with her. While Zana's frame was small and frail unlike the lady before her who had grown up and though she wasn't large she would always be larger than the little half breed who had no clue that she'd never grow up to be a normal height or weight. Her little tongue lulled out happily as she finally caught up to the other, panting happily, her lilac orbs shining as she gazed up at Geneva.

When the other spoke of the chances of them finding her father little Zana just shook her head and said firmly. "I find him! I wills!" She would too, oneday the girl would find her father and though she might never know him as a real father she could atleast know that she did infact have one. Geneva spoke on about taking her to these others who might be able to help and Zana just nodded her head, her trusting eyes locked on the woman as she said softly. "I knows.. yous still helps even if we no finds today.." She might help her more than she knew, but they would never know until that moment came.

The wide-eyed little girl had so much living to do. And she was already lost in the big, bad world. Her heart went out to Zana. She just hoped that she really would find her dad one of these days. And hopefully soon. The little one would need guidance and protection against the cruelty of the world until she grew and could deal with it on her own.

Geneva might have offered Zana a place to stay in Crimson Dreams, but she couldn't imagine any of the males she knew from her pack not alerting everyone to the fact that their daughter was missing. She went through the males of her pack in her mind. Jazper had only recently become Garnet's mate, Ehno was an unattached wanderer and probably wouldn't have children during his travels, and Kansas had Savina. She was certain that anyone in her pack would have alerted her to the fact that a child was missing. Which meant that the answer lay elsewhere, hopefully somewhere along this way.

The trees were thinning and now they were coming upon what appeared to be a territory. It was marked by skulls on stakes. Geneva cocked her head at that and looked down at the child. Would an innocent belong here? The skulls looked to belong mostly to wolves. "Is this where your daddy might be, Zana?"

They made their way through the lands, the small girl growing tired as she panted but would not give up in following after her greyscale rescuer. Her little lilac ribbons billowed in the winds as she smiled to herself, the excitment of getting closer and closer to finding out who her father was was too much for the little mischief maker. She knew it wasn't going to be easy but things seemed to be running smoothly so far, if only they would keep up.

When the other asked her if she thought the place looked right Zana peered out from around her legs at the strange sight of the skulls on the stakes before frowning slightly, unsure if this was the place but it seemed to fit what she'd overheard from the others. "I think so.." she said quietly.

Puffing out her chest as she stared back at the woman she answered matter of factly. "I don't fink yous should be heres.. Theys no likes outsiders." She nodded to herself as she looked to the other woman, her eyes so serious for one so small.
