It's time for something biblical

The sun retreated behind bare trees. Its tendrils of light shined through the leafless limbs, only prolonging the inevitable darkness. The orb was giving in, succumbing to the night that would not bow to its supremacy. God to the sky, the sun had held its seat over all that had occurred. Now even the deity was more then happy to close the curtain on the events it had witnessed. So it left their world, giving rise to a slivered moon that gave so little light that the darkness almost matched that of her heart.

Her breath was slow and steady, more even then it had been in hours. Her mind was set, frozen on a thought, a single idea. Heart bounded in her chest, but the beats were as slow and stead as her respiration. Each contraction was like an iron fist beating her rib cage, and still it was her foundation. It held her body together, knitting the fibers that threatened to unravel and float away with the wind. Her edges were frayed, but with each heart beat an each breath she managed to keep the seams stitched.

Screaming words filled her ears, shouts from voices so familiar that they reached inward and clutched her soul. Ears stood forward and the fur on her neck stood strait. With nothing in her sight she closed her eyes to find that they hid only in her head and the words spoke only to repeat the past again and again. It was an hour that she didn’t want to repeat, moments that she would rather forget.

All of it brought to her back to the city she loathed. The flower child kept to the forests, her soul only flourishing when among the plants she loved. But this was the second time in weeks she had come to the hard concrete and the human’s waste. It was only out of desperation, and such a feeling left her rationality far behind and left her with few options.

Walking the streets her blue eyes skirted down each alley, searching.

There was a man, a coyote that stood for something. They were the same, believing in justice and destruction of evil. He was someone that lived for the cleansing of the earth and the protection of innocence. There was blood on his hands, but his purpose was righteous. There was someone, someone that knew where evil lived. And how to destroy it.

Could we set this to right after the Nani/Anu thread? Cause I don't know what's going to happen in the Onus/Haku thread.

The lone coy had been asleep in the gutted apartment he had claimed for his own. At least for that night. He preferred to switch up where he decided to sleep every so often. Less chance of being tracked and found. He also didn't sleep much. It was a luxury he afforded himself only when it had become necessary for his body to have it. He always had to be vigilante. Aware of his surroundings. It was one of the reasons he was still alive. While he wasn't anywhere near paranoid about people coming after him, he knew that there was a very good possibility that there were. So he always had to be prepared. Always ready to take action when necessary. Injustice didn't sleep. So he only gave in to the minimum of that need.

As soon as the sun dipped below the horizon he rose. It was like his personal alarm clock. He threw off the warm blankets that had been covering him and stood, stretching his arms. Onus walked to the opposite wall where he had hung his coat, and hat. The cloth covering his eyes was still around his head though, as it always was. Purposefully he donned his trench coat. Then he slipped the fedora down over his ears and secured it on his head. He was ready.

He walked over to the open hole in the wall where a window had once been. Placing his feet on the sill he balanced himself with one hand as his masked eyes looked out over the dead city. Snow fell softly, settling itself onto his statuesque form. Then, as if a switch had been flipped, he jumped down from the window. He bounced off of ledges and openings on the face of the building until he finally hit the hard, cold street. The coyote landed in a crouching position and slowly raised himself back up straight onto his legs. He began his patrol of the empty streets.

Though tonight it was not as fruitless as it was some. And more interesting still, it was someone he had already met. A few blocks down he spotted the female wolf, Anu, that he had met on his first night here. He had gotten the impression that she did not care for the cold and unforgiving atmosphere Halifax (he had learned the old name in his searching) had to offer. Curious, he walked down the street in her direction. Maybe she had some information to give him.

right after was my plan!

The snow that lay on the street was thin, as if, even it knew that the concrete was unnatural and hoped to keep away form it. Her two paws stepped through it easily, happy to have cushioning from the broken rock. Arm crossed against her chest Anu pressed her nose down against them. It seemed a fruitless search, as the further she traveled the less sane her reason for looking became. It ran through her mind again and again, over and over until the thoughts were just a jumbled mess.

Her back was cold, it was always cold in the open air of the streets. The wind cut deep, leaving the mane she wore strewn over her neck and face. Hunched, holding herself together as the threads began to fray more and more, Anu walked on. Her eyes no longer touching the alleys, only looking at her own paws. It wasn’t until her caught a scent that she remembered that she was still breathing. Numb from the cold and dead from the endless ranting in her brain she easily forget that she was still living.

Her head turned. He didn’t need to speak out, or even make a sound. He was a shadow, as much as a being could be. Still he held a distinct scent, one that she hadn’t forgotten. The eyeless beast walked behind her, but instead of approaching her directly he hung back, following. It was his way, it seemed, Investigate until she was whiling to interact. She was more then whiling this night. Blue eyes sought the ones she was sure lay beneath his fabric face, she needed to see the eyes that would search out the evil she sought to destroy.

Did you ever find what you were looking for? Inferni, of course. It had been the place she had sent him the last time, a small part of her hoped it had been a fruitful journey. Still she prayed he still had room in his stomach for more. Or had he had his fill of the destruction of impurity? She certainly hoped not.

awesome!

As he followed her, he could tell that something was different. The way she moved and carried herself. How listless her gaze seemed. All that spark that had been there that first night seemed to have evaporated. Many things could have caused that. Some would be worth his effort to take action on. Some would not. Whatever the reason was, he could only assume that was why she had come to the cold city. Her lack of surprise, or really any reaction, at seeing him only confirmed that.

Unfortunately, he didn't have much news to report from the coyote and hybrid clan. The man he had spoken to had given him more or less nothing. He had been more keen to talk about the war than the individual killings. "Yes and no. Didn't get much information. Am keeping eye on them though." His investigation of Inferni was far from over. The lack of hard facts had only made him more suspicious.

She stared right into his eyes. Or at least where she believe his eyes to be. The she-wolf was more or less on the mark. She had something to tell him or ask him. It was apparent in the way she looked at him. And he had a feeling that it was not some mere trifle. That it was something fairly serious. Well, if he couldn't nail anything on Inferni at the moment maybe this would help. Or at least point him in the direction of something new. "Have something to say?" An empty question, but it appeared she was waiting for it.

i fail

Facing him, she stood in the wide road, arms glued to her chest and eyes on his face. The fabric remained, no matter how hard she willed it to be gone. It was a remaining factor, something that would forever be when confronted by the coyote. It was worthless to hope for anything else. As she looked away at the street’s side she began to understand that it was more part of him then her own face was a part of her.

It was his face, and the symbol of blindness that it portrayed. She began to think that it wasn’t his need to hide his features that brought him to wear the cloth, but the message that it created. She needed that more then anything now. She needed his black and white version of the truth.

She listened, but only his question held her full attention. Of course her state of mind as written all over her face, as all of her emotions were. In all her bewilderment she had forgotten to keep her features placid, but what did it matter? Yeah. her voice was hushed as the crude word exited her throat. Eyes watched him still, wondering what his reaction may be to her request, if any at all.

You still looking for trouble? the words sounded more foolish out loud then in her head. pausing for only a moment she continued I have a name. If he was still on the same path of righteousness Anu was certain he would inquire further.

Nevah!

So distracted. Last time she had be focused. Portraying confidence. Now she seemed awkward and somewhat broken. Yet there was some kind of purpose behind her being here. No matter how unsure of it she may be. It was something he had seen and experienced before. People didn't know how to feel when they came to him to ask for something or tell him something. He was an enigma to the great majority of his kind. They didn't understand why he did what he did. Even if they allowed themselves to believe that he was not just some crazed canine, coming to him made them awkward. Made them question themselves.

He made no movements as she responded. Just stood there, hands in the pockets of his coat, as always. "Always," he said, conviction behind his voice. That was something else. People often thought him full of empty words and promises when he spoke of his life's mission and work. That couldn't be farther from the truth. He lived to stamp out injustice. It was the reason he breathed. "What is it? What did they do?" If she was going to send the coyote after someone, she had better have good reason. Good solid evidence.

There could be question in her mind. Her voice had to be strong, unbroken and even. Naniko’s voice rang in her head, the words Anu had spoken followed and the thought of the pups being swept away in the middle of the night by a crazed beast made her blood race. Anu understood that Savina had kicked him out of the territory, beaten him close to death and warmed him never to enter it again. Anu couldn’t be that strong, taste the blood in her mouth or win such a match.

He would come for them, rape her mate and steal their children. Naniko trusted him, Anu was sure of it, her voice couldn’t have hid that fact. His teeth would be stained with the blood of her family, and she had to stop it from happening. Hot blood turned to boiling, scorching her veins and making her features hard.

Conri Church. The words poured from her throat fluidly. Ignoring the fact that the last name was one Mati shared, Anu spoke with as much indifference as she could. It was, rape. The word was harder say, yet she kept from stumbling over it. Anu would have rather forgotten, put the past away and living for the moment, and think about the future. Her future was shadowed with him in it. He stained the window she hoped to look through to see the family she loved grow strong and be happy.

The only solution was removing him from it.

As the gears in her mind clicked and turned he saw the resolve grow back into her. This was more than just some incedent she happened to know about. There was much more to it than that. There was deep emotion behind it. This was personal to her. Onus could feel the deep hatred begin to radiate from her skin. It warmed the air around them, if one had the senses to notice it. He did. He had felt such emotions before. Of course he kept them well in check know. But it was something he understood. He also understood that he would have to make sure to get the facts about this. Make sure that Anu's emotions weren't clouding her judgment.

Conri Church. The man added that name to his list. Along with Haku and Asphyxia. At the word "rape" he bristled. Dark eyes flashing behind cloth. To him, that crime was no better than murder. Those who committed it deserved death. And not a quick one if he could help it. Their victim's suffering wasn't quick, so their's should be worse. Of course at times it couldn't be helped. If it came down to a swift kill or letting the scum get away, his choice was clear. His hidden eyes bored into the female. He needed to be sure she was correct. "Need more information. Need to make sure you're right. Won't do anything unless I know." It may have seemed a bit calloused, but that was just his nature.

It was wrong, so wrong. But there was no other option. This is what he deserved. He deserved for the wolrd to know what he had done, and that was what she was doing. There was no blood on her hands, no knife in paw. She was only the messenger, what Onus did with such news was up to him. The small part, tiny though loud, screamed for death . A slow and painful death.

More? The question was irrelevant. She understood, he wasn’t a rash lunatic and he wasn’t a hit man. He was the jury and judge and she would have to make her case before the sentence was granted. It was my mate, he raped her. She paused, never had she talked about this with anyone else. Blue eyes watched, looking to see if there was any indication that those words were enough.

Of course there was nothing, he never gave her any hint. There are four children, if you need breathing evidence. Her back straitened, eyes boring into the cloth he wore. If there was anything else he needed she would give it to him. Her doubts had disappeared, left her entirely as she thought of them. She saw the four sitting around their mothers, looking for protection and guidance. Anu would at least be able to give them one of those things.

Mate? So that was the way her urges took here. Interesting. He wouldn't have pegged her for that type. Then again, he never really understood why anyone would want to be with someone of their same sex. But love and lust were two things that Onus had never experienced. They were a foreign language to him. He knew that they could both lead perfectly normal people to do insane things though. Anu wasn't lying though. She wasn't trying to fool him. When she said those words, she believed them. He could almost always tell when someone was lying. She certainly wasn't. Well, well then. It appeared that he finally had a specific mission. "Will look into it then."

At the mention of the children his ears flicked. She said they were breathing, so apparently they hadn't been disposed of when they had been born. That was good. But how were these children treated? The man had often found that children were punished for things that they had no hand in. "These children. Do you two care for them?" There wasn't any hint of skepticism in his voice. He had a feeling that this female couldn't hurt a fly if she wanted to. Who knew about her mate though. Raped mothers were often cruel to the children that came about because of it.

It had been years since she had apologized for loving who she did. Once in her life she had been loved, and then chose another over him. The confrontation had left her with the scar that ran down her leg, it was then that she decided to never apologize. They could judge, categorize her as whatever they wanted, and still her heart something that would love indefinably.

He’d look into it. It was all she could ask for. It was what she had come for; all she wanted was someone on her side. Naniko wasn’t, at least it didn’t feel like it. She wanted to be right, not because she was righteous, but because she felt it so deeply in her heart.

Yes, we do. Her answer was less intense, though the words held the same truth. If she was one thing, it was honest. Any other day she would have been happy to boast about her four pups, if they were still hers of course, but she wouldn’t stain them by bringing them into this conversation. What right did she have anyways?

She took a deep breath, We love them. Was that his question? It wasn’t right to underestimate their ability as mothers, even if it wasn’t most the most conventional relationship. Anu didn’t need to ask him if he had his own, she already knew he didn’t. It was plain as day, he had never had what she just ruined. He would see it in her eyes, he would understand why she hated the Church male. He would feel her pain.

But he didn’t feel anything, did he?

I'm sorry if this sucks, my brain is kinda *poof* right now ><

When he said he would look into something, he did mean it. Especially when it came to crimes such as this. There were just many factors that he had to deal with. Tracking a person down could be more difficult than one would think. Then if he found them, most times he would interact with them a bit before making a move. Most times it would lull the offender into a false sense of calm. Plus he would, most times, get whatever information he was lacking. But when it came down to the actual physical altercation, it depended heavily on how experienced a fighter the opponent was. Onus was very good at what he did. There were plenty of others who were too though. If nothing else, he could give him some scars that they wouldn't soon forget. Wouldn't let others forget either.

The same confidence, while not as loud, was there behind these answers as well. The man was silently thankful for that. Just because the creature that fathered them was a monster didn't mean they deserved to be treated as such. They had done nothing wrong. Just victims of circumstance. He nodded his head. "Hrm. Good." Vulnerability was something that he didn't show to anyone, ever. If he had any "weak spots" it was children. They were innocent. The most pure beings that inhabited this corrupt earth. They didn't deserve to be subject to all this sin and madness.

perfect as always!

But this is short… bc my brain has really gone -poof-

With all the indifference he expressed Anu still felt the approval that came with his words. It was good, the way she loved them. It was good that she was standing in front of him giving him the information that would protect them. It was all she could do, love them and just attempt to protect them.

A paw reached to her chest, feeling the hard beat of the organ beneath it. There were moments when she wished she could reach beyond the skin and bones and squeeze the muscle until its life was extinguished. Its constant beating, rattling against her rib cage made her body ache and at times her breath short.

If I hear anything else, I’ll find you here? The city was closing in, its tall buildings shadowing her and making her chest tight. Her eyes burned with fatigue and their lids were suddenly heavy. She needed to sleep, needed to find solace and peace.

No problem! Wrap this one up?

Maybe she wasn't just doing this for her mate, or for whatever sense of justice she felt needed to be filled (even though he would be the one doing it). Perhaps it was to protect the children. Usually rapists had no care of what offspring they had spawned though. At least not in his experience. They committed their crime, spread their seed, and left never to be seen again. He had honestly never run across a rapist that tried to take the life he had violently created. At least not to his recollection. But no doubt the non-biological mother would feel her babies were safer without the madman around. He couldn't blame her for that.

She didn't look so great. For a second he thought she might faint. Onus was no knight in shining armor, but he wasn't going to leave her in such a vulnerable state without assurance from her. "Yes. You okay?" His voice was still monotoned, but there was some genuine concern under the surface. "Should get some rest. Need help getting home?" The reason he offered was that he knew what could happen to a lone, weak female in the middle of the night.

wrap up is gooooood

It would never be simple. The world wasn’t just made of the innocent and guilty. Circumstance dictated everything. She believed that Naniko had never thought her past mate was capable of doing what he did, just as she once believed that she would never be so cruel, or be dishonest, or disloyal. Circumstances changed the pure hearted into someone capable of murder. They could change a woman that found the greatest joy in a single picked flower into one that whished death upon another. It seemed her circumstances were constantly changing.

Anu turned back to him, meeting the face he lacked. In her mind it was becoming a face she was happy to look at. Nonjudgmental, it was just merely there. Yeah. She answered simply. She was worse then she had been hours ago, but she was certain she could have felt worse. To tired to truly feel anything Anu gave him a single nod, I’m not going home.

Gathering herself back in her crossed arms she turned and walked. The direction didn’t truly matter, all she knew was that her nose didn’t point towards Crimson Dreams. Maybe she would end up in the shelter of a cave, or among the limbs of a cradling tree. Or perhaps she would find herself by the ocean, nestled beside its rhythmic tides and among its soft sands.
