What a curious child this Mati was. Her demeanor concerning this morbid topic was light and simply curious. Not brooding or dark like it would be with most people. Maybe she was just curious about everything. Even the unpleasant stuff. Onus had never had such a happy little spark for knowledge. Maybe he had, way back before his mother's attempt on his life. Maybe he had been a normal little kid with normal thoughts. A part of him thought that that was true. But it had been so long ago and he was so detached from anything like it that it was hard to be sure. It was nice to see a pup so carefree though.

"Dying usually not fun." He had brought death down upon countless heads. Each time he had watched as the life slowly left their eyes, leaving them cold like a doll's. All of their deaths hadn't been fun. But that had been his purpose. They had made others suffer, so they needed to suffer as well. The man only killed quickly when the only other choice was letting them get away alive. That just wasn't acceptable. "Not many make it out of it. That's why." Who would want to talk to a puppy about drowning? That seemed very odd to him.

Shit. Now he would have to dance around the real reason he knew that her father was dangerous. He couldn't tell her the truth. Onus wasn't one for sugar-coating things to people, but this was different. It would be better if she didn't know everything. "Don't know him. Heard of him. Did bad things." The man hoped that that would satisfy. He didn't want to bring up Anu or go into any detail about the "bad things".

End this soon? Tho I do love them!!

He had the simplest answers for everything. They didn’t satisfy her vast curiosity completely, but she was learning to be content with them. It was also an exercise in patience; there was no rushing him into an explanation. And he certainly wasn’t one for details. She found that in the answer to her latest question, it was far from filling.

Mait wasn’t even entirely sure what he meant by it. She understood that they hadn’t met, but where was he hearing rumor about him? She almost became defensive. It was wrong to believe in hearsay, but then she remembered whom they spoke of. It seemed that he was capable of things that she wouldn’t even be able to comprehend. Bad things had a vast definition, but the pup didn’t even want to know that could be part of that explanation. She wasn’t sure if Onus would even tell her.

Maybe he’ll drown. She didn’t mean for it to be a morbid thought, though it came out as one. She only thought that maybe he would fall victim to something greater then his on evil. It was the only way to express her need for him to be gone from her life, at least while she was so fearful of him. Eyes looked out onto the lakes calm surface once again. Her face was as calm and quiet as the water. Maybe she didn’t need to fear him, at least not when Onus was around.

Si Si!

If only he could let the little girl know that it wasn't just a rumor that let him know that the male who sired her was no good. But he wasn't about to say anything about her adopted mother and cause her to go question Anu. While she may have seemed a pacifist he had no doubt that if her daughter started asking questions about why she had told some strange coyote that her father was a bad man he would soon be getting another visit from her in the city. He supposed he could tell her that he didn't follow rumors. That he had to be sure of something to believe it. But he knew that would only lead to more questions from her so he said nothing instead.

For some reason he didn't think much on her comment. It was only natural for her to want him gone from her life. "Maybe he will." That or he'd die with Onus' hands around his throat. Either would be fine. Mati appeared to be pretty at east though. Looking up into the sky he realized how late it had gotten and he really should be out looking for the monsters that lurked in the shadows. That way she wouldn't have to fear them anymore. "Should go. It's late." The man rose to his feet and looked back down at the brown pup. "Was nice meeting you Mati. If ever need me know where to find me." That said he turned to go. Though he couldn't help feeling somehow glad that he had wasted the afternoon.
