Gotta be Somebody

Sliding along, body low and trying to blend in with vegetation, Mew felt silly. She knew where her brother resided, and if she hadn't she could have smelled it easily. Firefly would be there with her nephews too, probably. But that wasn't the source of her uncomfortable feelings. Ever since the last time she had spoken with Firefly, Haku had not spoken a word to Mew. Not that the siblings sought each other much - their relationship was strange and did not require more than the occasional refreshing conversation. Yet, for it to have passed that long without bumping into each other at some point or another was not like them. If she picked up his scent she would normally come to greet him, and so would he, although ever since she revealed his secret to Firefly (which right now just seemed like a brilliant joke since Deuce had recently joined their ranks. Was he to have a harem?), no such thing had happened. Almost as if they had been avoiding each other. Mew was certain that he was angry with her, and justified, as she had used him in an attempt to hurt Firefly. It hadn't been right of her, but damn it had felt good. She had avoided him whenever his scent had passed her snout, not wanting to face the punishment she deserved. It pained her, altogether, having yet another thing straining their relationship. And she hadn't seen the children yet, but she was very much eager to do so. Hell she'd met her grown niece before she'd met the pups born into her own pack - the wrong way around. All of it was wrong, and thus she was trying to make amends, still avoiding a confrontation with him face-to-face, by leaving a gift at his house like a coward, in the middle of the night.

She wasn't stupid enough to think that her pelt would cover her, and knew very well that should he - or Firefly - look out the window at the right moment, Mew would be spotted. Thus, since the risk of getting caught was high - as soon as she came in view from the house she straightened up and walked normally, holding her gift in one hand as if she meant to approach him properly. If she wasn't spotted it was all good, and if she was she could, perhaps, still retain some of her dignity. If he should find the gift the day after Mew was sure he would understand it was from her, and though she didn't know if he carried the same passions as herself, she hoped he would find the violin of interest. A lot of hours had gone into building the thing, and she was very fond of it. Nearly too fond of it to let it go, and that was why she thought it a suitable gift. If he found it, it would mean that it was natural for him to seek her out, and perhaps then his heart would be somewhat softened towards her and what she had done. One could hope.

The windows confused her, and suddenly, in the darkness, she failed at seeing which side of the house was the front or the back. Surely the back would be less risky, and was what she was aiming for. Miserably failing at interpreting buildings, though, Mew soon found herself at the front, and there was no turning back. Mumbling under her breath, she looked around, slightly stressed, trying to find a suitable place for the wooden violin. It was rainy, and she didn't want it ruined by moisture. The sounds she uttered as she spoke to herself were barely audible, and she believed herself to be alone. One could never know, though, and the weather was just gray enough to make her unable to distinguish things perfectly.
Where to put this then...

The male stared at the approaching figure outside. The house was dark and the goddamn kiddies were sleeping. Svara was usually in the house as well, but not at the moment. He did not care where that brat was, knew very well that Svara could take good care of herself, so he never had any worries about her. He stepped away from the window and slowly made his way to the front door. He had seen his darling sister carry something, and he was curious why she seemed to lurk around the house. Maybe it was a homemade bomb. He hoped so, could use some more space and fewer mouths to feed. Yes, all hail Mew Sadira. The chocolate male mused to himself. The children were okay. They ate, they slept, and they pooped. They were kind of cute, and resembled their parents. Eyes were still in the baby blue of all small cubs, and he caught himself often wondering what colour their eyes would finally turn into.

The Sadira man opened the door quietly and peered out towards where Mew was standing. They had not talked for a while, and he was halfway sorry for that. Now when they finally were friends, he felt that they should start to hang out together a bit more often. Haku was not usually very social, but she was his sister. Even though family mattered little to the man, Mew did. ”Sup?” He closed the door behind him and offered Mew a little smile, watching the thing she was holding in her hands.

A creak, and then a little stripe of light emerged from what she quickly identified as a door opening. Only a tiny moment later she heard her brother speak a single word, and Mew turned, quickly, to face him. Damnit! She was on the front side of the building! Oh those eyes of her, were they failing her already? Was she that old? Certainly, lately - with a little help from Lubomir - she did not feel as old and weary, but this instant she blushed at her failure, glad to know the night hid that, at least, even if it had not hidden her white colors in its darkness. For a split second she did not know what to do with herself, but then gathered her wits and took the bull by the horn. Eh, well. I.. Oh why the cowardice? He was her brother, and though he had every right to be angry with her, he would not hurt her. Actually, had he been a physical threat she would not have been this scared. His affection and the bond they shared - even if it was an odd one - was one of her most valuable things in life, and it frightened her to know there was a hole somewhere along that road. And that she had willingly dug it herself. And now she was here to present him with a gift, only to get caught as the little stupid girl she was. I came to give you this. The femme took two steps towards her brother, whose pelt did not shine like hers did in the darkness, and who seemed so calm and peaceful she was even more so scared of the anger he probably felt towards her for her petty games, and then quickly presented the wooden instrument and its bow, green eyes studying him intently and hoping he would like it. She had never asked him whether he liked music, but she hoped he would see the value in the item, and that she had put much effort into restoring it. One should give gifts one would appreciate getting themselves, some said, and it fit very well for this occasion. White ears and tail bristled nervously as she waited for his response. Hopefully he would still love her despite her flaws.

TAKKER! 300

He watched the nervous female as she took a few steps towards him. Only one person had known about Deuce's pregnancy, and that had been his pretty big sister. She would maybe be surprised when he made it known that he was not angry at her. Deuce had ended up with joining Dahlia, and he had figured it was better that Firefly already knew about his cheat. He sort of wished he had not brought the white healer back to Dahlia and given her family a home here, but what else could he have done? Deuce could not live alone with a small child, and Haku had been overpowered by an urge to protect his little bastard girl when he had found out that Lucifer was living together with them. He doubted he had changed, but it was possible that a small part of him actually had. Willow was of his own blood, and even though he had failed before, it did not necessarily mean that he would make the same mistakes again. He had never wanted it, but he could not escape this mess, so he would stay and try to make it work.

The male stared at the gift she had come to deliver. His ears flickered backwards when he did not recognize the thing. Haku knew little of music and instruments, simply because he did not care. It was a shame really, because both Mew and Haku had been gifted with both natural talents in this area. Haku had a beautiful singing voice, but he never sung, never saw the point or beauty of it. He remained silent for a few seconds before he spoke. "A gift? That is very considerate of you, but what is the occasion?" He wanted to hear it from her own mouth, very much so.

Gotta be Somebody

A white face became wrinkled, although the negative feelings it displayed could only be aimed at herself. Haku would know this, being her brother. He knew her better than most people, and yet sometimes not at all. And Mew thought she knew Haku as well as anyone, although sometimes not at all. It was probably like this for everyone, and now its impact was painted on Mew Sadira's face. She could not read her brother this moment. He was calm, there was no trace of secrecy in him, although he could either be leading her onto a confession, or he had no idea at all. The latter seemed more likely, as she did not expect him to be so .. neutral in his behavior should he know what she had done. for a second she let her thoughts linger on the idea of not giving in at all, pretending she had come here with no other goal than to give him a present, although she knew even before the thought struck her that it would be impossible. She was too rooted in her own principles to escape the punishment she deserved. Taking a deep breath, she looked at him earnestly, and let her arms fall to her sides, one hand holding the bow and one the violin, both who had been offered to him, but none yet accepted. I have... wronged you. Her eyes fell tot he ground in disgrace, and flickered up again to meet his eyes. The vivid blue that was so much like her own green hue, but then again not at all. They were so alike, these two, and so different. So utterly different. I took advantage of your trust in order to hurt your... mate. And I apologise. She had had trouble defining Firefly as his female, his mate, his choice of life style. The detest she felt towards the female would not be quenched, and Mew dared not say her name, in fear of risking making faces. Despite her deceit and sly scheme, her appearance in the evening shine spoke against the darkness of her nature, as the edges of the fine white hairs that made her pelt shone with every glimmer of light it could find. The halo of light that surrounded her and set her face spoke of innocence, and though she was no such thing as innocent anymore, she was still pure, except this one grave mistake. She would, now, do her best to subdue her negative feelings towards her cousin, but it would be hard. Bracing herself for a reprimand from her younger(!) brother, she met his gaze with strength. She would take his anger, and she hoped it would suffice to put things right.

300+ ^3^

The man leaned against the cool wall next to the door, crossing his hands as he kept his somewhat cool gaze on his ivory sibling. It was almost a bit sad how things had slowly changed between them. It was almost unnoticeable unless they actively went back in history and compared their current relationship to what they had had three years ago. He was not very happy with the mate she had picked out for herself, but then again, Firefly and Mew did not go well together at all, so he had next to nothing to say in this case. Lubomir disliked Haku more than Haku disliked Lubomir though, and he wondered just how much had slipped out and poisoned his lovely sister's ears.

His ears tilted forwards when she chose her words with care. He was glad she decided to be honest and admit what she had done. No one but Mew had known about Deuce, and so it could only have been through her the ugly truth could have come from. Everything had ended well though (or as well as he could have hoped). He shrugged casually, raising his shoulders and mused. "Maybe it was for the best. I took Deuce and my little girl home with me a few weeks ago to live here in Dahlia with us." Did his green eyed sister already know this? Had she met her little niece? Willow's appearance left no doubts of who her father was.

Now, to the gift. "What is it?" His eyes wandered down from her face to the thing she was holding in her hands. He wondered if part of her reason to come here had been to see the two newest members of Dahlia, but perhaps not. It seemed she had not planned to get discovered in the first place, and he thought perhaps he should have stayed inside and let her lurk around in peace. He did not like when she was uncomfortable around him. She was one of the few individuals who accepted him for who he was (even though she knew very little), and he wished it would stay that way.

Gotta be Somebody

The anger, the reprimand did not come. Her jaws were set, her hands were clenched, mentally, and her gaze was direct. Everything in order to meet the punishment she truly did deserve; after all her brother had done for her she had repaid him with indirect disrespect. And now, he did not yield to anger, in fact, he was not angry at all. Perhaps he had been, although she had waited too long? As he spoke, casually shrugging those shoulders who made her wonder where he had the genes (her own frame was very lithe and small - and yet he was strong and powerful, and looked it too!), those vividly emerald eyes were enlarged. Deuce lived here now? He had brought his mistress and his bastard child to the lands of this pack? Surely Firefly could not appreciate this. This simple fact pleasured Mew slightly, but surprise at his actions overruled any feeling to be expressed. You.. brought them here? And you are not.. angry with me? One surprise overlapped another. It wasn't very.. tactical, perhaps. Although if Deuce was in need of support with her litter (by the way Haku said "little girl" - a non-plural phrase, it seemed as if it was only one child that had made it), she could see the necessity. It sure as hell might cause a load of problems for him, but then again it was all on himself for having caused them. Shaking her head, Mew smiled a half-smile, amused and fascinated. You're not angry with me despite how I deserve it, and you bring Deuce and your child here, in front of your mate's and your other childrens' noses... Will I ever understand you, Haku Soul...? A chocolate mystery, that was what he was. Yet, he warmed her heart in his usual way, and the tenseness she had felt tugging at her being the past months was evaporated with the simple words he spoke. How odd a bond they shared.

As the situation was more calm and not as tense anymore, he seemed more interested in the gift. She had not expected him to know what it was already, unless he had started giving in to a sudden interest of human ways the past two months. Even if he had, it would have been up to chance for him to find out what the device did. Looking down at it, together with him, she lifted it a little higher, holding it with both hands. Suddenly a slight feeling of folly entered her head - what if he did not like this gift at all? Ah well, if he didn't she could perhaps borrow it when or if she should ever visit him here. Surely Firefly would mind it, but she could not be here all the time. It is a musical instrument, called a violin. Holding the parts separately now, the bow in one hand and the actual instrument in another, it should be easier to see any details. Do you want to see how it works? In fact, she had not practiced it much - eager to deliver the gift and receive the peace of mind she had so longed for. She could play a few simple melodies, however, and its sound was not at all that bad - dry and crisp, like it should be. Very much like the sound of a wooden, small and rather dense flute, just without the air. It would be interesting to see how he reacted to it.

If she had not smiled when she had spoken, Haku's hackles would have rose and and his eyes would have turned black. Did they never see anything good in his deeds, in what he did? Haku's eyebrows furrowed slightly, and his face darkened slightly. He was quite sure that was what they all though. Mew said what she felt, and he knew the other members would probably feel somewhat the same. They did not understand. They did not want to understand. "I'd rather have them here where there's food and shelter than alone in the wilderness. I want them to be safe and live, and that goes before pride and honor." Would these words change anything? Mew never judged him heavily, so perhaps she would be able to understand why he had done this? Deuce had been alone with her two children. Although the male was grown, it was not easy to survive with a small child and no pack.

His focus went to the instrument again. A violin, was it? He felt bad for her, because he instantly knew he would never touch it. He would receive it and put it away. It was sad, but it was just his nature. Mew could of course not know about this, so he placed a brighter expression on his face, eyeing the thing eagerly. "A violin? I like the name of it at least." He moved a few steps closer towards his sister. "Show me, sister."

Gotta be Somebody

His brows furrowed as she spoke, and for some reason it struck her as odd - perhaps he misunderstood her reasons for saying what she did, for she meant it only as complimentary. She was amused by her brother's odd behavior: He wronged those close to him based on selfishness (otherwise he would not have cheated on his mate), yet he feels responsibility heavily enough to take that woman into the pack, with her child, because otherwise they would be on their own. Most men would run from that responsibility, run from the past and what they had done, out of fear of angering their partner further, or the judgment of others when or if the truth was known. Yet, for all the odd things he did, Haku did what was right - and though he might not consider this a case of honor it very much was. It was honorable of him to do this - to put their comfort ahead of his own, simply because it was necessary. As he spoke her smile lingered, and she looked at him again, with that little twinkle of amusement in her eye. "I understand that, and it is very right. I am simply amused at how you decide to do this despite all the trouble it might give you. Most would run from that trouble, but you do not." Mew herself, for all her deep confidence in values and morale, would most likely have run from this responsibility (although it was very unlikely she would have cheated in the first place), and it seemed to her that moment that if she was the image of integrity and honesty, he would be responsibility, with all the burdens it might bring with it. "It is something to be admired."

The conversation changed to another subject - the violin - and even though Mew could see his reserved enthusiasm, although she could not exactly determine whether it was completely genuine. Not that she expected her brother to lie to her, but because she knew how few in this pack shared the joy of music with her, and as deeply as she did. It was sad, for Haku's voice would most likely be a brilliant singing voice - although she had never heard it. She probably never would, because now that she thought on it she could not recall him taking part in anything to do with music, ever. Ah well, if not useful for him in that sense it was still very decorative, and she had painted over some of the swirls along the hole in the middle with red herself - red being the only color she had managed to create. She did not bother much with artistic matters besides music. The enthusiasm on her brother's face quickly caught on, and she found herself explaining the instrument and its works in detail, emerald eyes focused and sharp, and a broad smile on her face. ".. and so when I move the bow over the strings like so,", she had her fingers nimbly pressing down on a certain point on one string, "...there is a tone, see?" A sharp, but pleasantly steady and dry tone pierced the air as she softly pulled the bow over the string. The sound normally took some time to get used to, but once you did it was very fine to listen to, or at least Mew felt that way. "Different points on different strings make different pitches when pressed with a finger, and that is how it is played. Quite ingenious, don't you think?"

These days Haku was perhaps a bit too quick to judge the intention behind words. He did not assume that his sister was like the rest, but the possibility was always there, and the topic about Deuce and Willow was very delicate to him at time being. Souls liked their witch hunt more than anything, and he did not like to be the target of such a progress. Instead of the negative, could people never take a quick glance at the positive? If Haku killed someone, he was bad. If Haku saved someone, he was still bad! That was how he looked at this situation. He had saved Deuce and her children from possible starvation and whatever else. His face smoothed out when his sister reassured him that she had not meant it in a negative way. Amused, though. Well, she was an outsider and would not be dragged into the hell that Firefly would create when he was to tell her. Of course it was a horrible thing to bring his bastard daughter and earlier lover into the pack. It would be a disgusting proof of his scattered loyalty to her. He had shamed her by doing this, but he put more importance into life than his and Firefly’s pride. The Lilium just wished the rest of the pack could see that as well, but he knew very well that this would probably not be the case. He knew his pack, their need to doubt him, their need for a scapegoat. Maybe he should strengthen his grip on the pack, give them a reason to fear him.

At least he had Mew’s support. Better than nothing, much better. His ears perked when the clean tone sounded in the air. It was not unpleasant, but he did not have a particular liking for it either, to be honest. He kept that fact from his face with his perfect mask. Worst of all, it seemed to him like a complicated thing. He knew she was the most musical wolf in the pack, perhaps in all of Souls for that matter, but why would she give him an instrument. Haku had no interest in music whatsoever, and he had better things to do than to sit and attempt to learn to create sounds from it. Waste of time in his opinion. He stared at the violin while he cocked his head in ‘interest’. ”That’s sure something. It looks so complicated, but at the same time also fragile.” It did. ”I’m not very good with music and instruments, but... how many different tones are there?” It could sound like a question only designed to spite Mew, but fact was that Haku knew nothing whatsoever about violins and songs. He averted his gaze and looked away from his pale littermate. Although he knew nothing, he still despised his own ignorance. Surely his lack of knowledge would disappoint her. Mew was one of the few wolves he actually disliked to disappoint. The rest of them could rot in hell.

The subject of Deuce and their child was left altogether as Haku did not comment on it. Mew took this as a sign that he had understood her meaning when she had expressed surprise, as he would probably have said so if he still felt offense or judgment from her. Relieved to leave the subject in total, Mew focused all her attention on the gift, and her brother. His enthusiasm couldn't match her own, but normally no one could anyways. Haku was very correct in his observation - the instrument was very complicated. She had read in a book that the hole in the middle somehow enhanced the sound coming from the strings when you moved the bow over it, and it was this that made the peculiar sound. She didn't exactly understand how a hole would enhance anything - if anyone asked her it'd most likely just break the item, but obviously it worked. The humans had been good at finding reasons for everything, seemingly, and calculating what to do to get the result they wanted. The woman nodded as her brother spoke, smiling. When he presented her with a question, Mew tilted her head sideways to think. She hadn't thought about it, really. Of course she had tested what she could do with it, and some sheets of music showed tones she did not manage to create, thus there were probably more possibilities than she had found so far. Her gaze wandered for the seconds she thought, until it landed on her brother's chocolate face again. "You know... I haven't counted. A book showed there were more tones than I've been able to make so far, but I'm guessing it's at least thirty, or maybe even forty. And then there are others with different nuances as well." Her white face shone at him as she spoke, quite happy with his interest in the instrument. She did see that he could easily have been more eager to learn of it, and he didn't ask to try it himself, so she assumed he was either shy, or didn't share her interest at all. Oh well, it could serve as a symbol of her need for forgiveness from him, of her need to repair and maintain the bond they shared.

Deuce was not a subject he enjoyed discussing. He was drowning in his own problems because he had swung around too much with his member. Haku could be complicated and hard to understand, but in return his more primal parts were very simple. The woman nodded at his words. Why in the world did she believe he would ever have any use of such a silly object. It was beautiful in its own way, but the Lilium did not appreciate that kind of beauty. His sense of beauty included those things that others could not agree upon. His personality was way too twisted, beyond the point of no return. He slightly grimaced as he drew closer to take a look on the thin strings that had created the sound when she had moved the tree stick thing across them. The brute was almost certain that he would make them snap if he touched the instrument. Intentional or not, he was certain. His eyebrows were raised when she revealed that the instrument could produce up to perhaps forty different tones. That was sick enough, and why the fuck would he want to play music. The simplistic meaning of the gift was what mattered most though. Even though he had no use for it, the gift’s value did hold some importance to the cocoa male. He scratched his side absently, raising his baby blue eyes to the being he had known longest in his life. She would never let him down. Not ever.

”Uhm, that’s quite impressive, because it looks like a pretty simplistic thing, really, yet.. still complicated.” He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should ask if he could hold the violin. What good would it do, he would never try to make music or any other kinds of sounds with it. He did not want to. ”I don’t think I should try it yet.. certainly not when you’re around, I would only embarrass myself.” Good, that could possibly fool her into believing he actually would investigate the object once she had taken her leave. It would not happen, but he did not want her to know how useless her gift was to him. A thought hit him. ”Mew, do you want to see the children? Conor and Emwe Soul. I think they may be awake, though their mother is sleeping and I’m quite sure she will not wake up. I can go get them for you if you want.” Yes, show off the ugly rats. Well, that could work, and he wanted his sister to meet his children. She was their aunt, and had every right to see the newest family members. His sons were also the first puppies to be born into Dahlia de Mai, and they were a shining symbol of the pack’s health. He flashed a warm smile in her direction, adding a somewhat proud expression. Truth be told, he did not care half as much as he should, but he tried well enough. There was always the choice of pretending.

Her brother raised his eyebrows at the number she offered him, and she read it as amazement over the instrument and it's possibilities. Of course, she could not know what he really thought. The words that he spoke right after seemed to confirm her belief, and she took it as mild interest. Anyone would. She nodded at him as he concluded that the instrument was indeed very complicated, and when he proclaimed he shouldn't try it a trill of a chuckle came from her throat. A temperature, affection, rose in her green irises, as she killed his idea. Although, she would never force him to do any of the sort. "Don't worry, little brother, I can barely play anything on it myself. But if you won't play it, promise me you'll put it somewhere for others to see. Its form in itself is quite pretty, too, so at least that way it would serve a purpose" Truly, it looked like such a delicate little thing, and (although Mew did not know this) it was even more fragile-looking than the average violin, because what she had in her hands was a children's version. A smaller violin, with an even thinner neck and an even thinner bow, easier for little hands to hold and play on. The female had simply found one that was whole enough to be fixed in the old music part of some school or official building in Wolfville, and hadn't the care or knowledge to know the difference. She'd merely looked at pictures in books, and even found one book on violin building, which had helped her a lot. The library was a goldmine. The female smiled and let both her arms down from playing position to hanging relaxed along each side, bow and violin in hand.

The chocolate male brought up her nephews (apparently it was two boys), and Mew felt herself smile, teeth as white as her furs, joining the pelt in a shining competition against the evening darkness. "Conor and Emwe.. pretty names." Her eyes shone as well now, looking at her brother who had been so worried about himself as a father, that now flashed that proud grin at her. Oh he could do just fine, Mew believed that to the depths of her heart. And if Firefly let her, she would assist the little boys' venture into the life of independence, one day. She did want to see them, although it wasn't them she had come here for. In a way she wanted to make sure Haku knew that coming here with the gift and everything wasn't just a cover for catching a glimpse of the kids, but then again she trusted him to know she wasn't so shallow. Her two hands lifted each piece of the instrument and held them up to him. He would have to take the gift inside himself, Mew didn't wish to step on the doorstep of Firefly if the woman felt territorial. She'd be asleep, he said, but.. No. Wasn't going to happen. "I'd like that." Again that smile, and a proud flash in return to that one piece of family she would always learn something new about. She really was proud of him.

He nodded at her words and took the instrument from her hands, but he would be certain to put it away when she was well on her way away from the cabin. He just smiled sweetly and looked at her with honest eyes that expressed great gratitude for the gift she had presented to him. ”You are right. Thank you, sister.” He nodded at the pronunciation of his sons’ names. He turned his back at the woman and beckoned for her to follow him into the house. It was not really a request, his gesticulation was commanding. He knew the woman was not fond of Firefly and the other way around, but she could wait in the living room. The children had taken the mother’s strength, he was certain she would not wake up yet, so they had a few hours. He stepped lightly to the room with the children and poked his head into the room. Firefly was sound asleep, but the children were not. They were very small still, and whimpered more often than not, but they knew his scent, knew who he was, so none of the two children made much more noise when he carefully lifted them away from their mother’s warmth and clutched them against his warm chest. A little mewl here and there, but they kept still. He turned around and left the room as quietly as he had entered, but now with two tiny bodies in his arms. He walked to the living room where his sister was waiting. He smiled at the pale woman, introducing her to the two children. He refused to make it known that he had issues telling the children apart. ”Conor and Emwe, this is your Auntie Mew.” He walked closer to let her have a better look. Perhaps she would even be willing to hold one of them.

”Want to hold them?”

He took the delicate little thing in his hands, and truly it looked out of place. He was such a large and bulky male, and the elaborately shaped instrument looked fragile on its own, and even more so in comparison to his form. Mew nearly chuckled, although her amusement died very quickly as he motioned for her to follow him inside. She would not argue on it, and his manner showed that he expected her to follow, thus she did. Nothing but her brother could have made her enter that house, and his rank had nothing to do with it. Haku would likely never reprimand her regarding his rank and her disrespect for it, because she would never give him a reason to, and because the two were quite casual together. She would have followed even if he had been the solum, and likely he would have acted the same no matter his rank. There was just something dominating in his ways, and she had come here, after all, to make up. Arguing over something like this just wouldn't fit - it was not the place nor time. Her stomach was clenched as she lightly stepped behind her chocolate brother, into the more lit up atmosphere of the house, and waited in the living room as he went to fetch the two boys. When he returned she could see two small and slowly moving figures in his arms, and as he approached her and introduced her to them he had that same smile on his face.

Her green eyes quickly spotted the extreme similarity in the coats of the two boys, and bluntly asked him about it - although quietly, as she was still nervous, imagining Firefly entering the room every second. "They are so alike! And a perfect mix between you two..." Truly, she was slightly disappointed there was not a trace of the white pelt so classic to the Sadira family, something which would have made their appearances so much closer to her own. He introduced the three family members as if they could understand, although Mew didn't reply to them, but merely looked at them, nudging her head forward a little to get a better look. She'd never been the kind to prattle with children, and having had none of her own that lived, she'd never gotten the chance to become one either. As those green orbs studied the little furballs and their tiny limbs moving around ever so slowly, Haku spoke again, and now Mew straightened her neck and looked at him, at first a little surprised at his proposal, then not certain whether she dared. A moment or two passed, and she looked from the children to her brother, as if asking again if it really was ok, only with her eyes, then finally giving way to her urge to handle the small things. "Well I'm sure.. if you don't mind I probably could..?" Sentence formed as a question, her uncertainty was obvious, although it wasn't so odd, really. The things were so fragile-looking... what if she broke one?!

It was odd how his feelings changed concerning these two small boys. The usual feeling was a version of disgust, but there were times where he felt slightly proud, and perhaps even managed to produce a bit of warmth. Mostly it was act, but there were things happening under his skin that were less altered for the world to see. He was not made of only pretend. Perfect mix. Made out of lust and physical love, and born into a promise of misery. This was a broken home. At the moment their lives were silent, waiting for the next explosion of anger and hatred, because the Lilium and his mate were filled with dynamite, and two bombs make a larger ruin than one alone. They were a dangerous pair, the two of them. He wondered if it would last much longer now. He hoped it would be Firefly ending up with the kids then. He did not want to see anything that reminded him of her. Not himself either, for that sake, so the appearance of the children made them ugly and even more unwanted in Haku’s eyes. None knew this but the man, though. It was easy to pretend with the right skills.

The man handed the child one of the children. He had no idea which one of the rats it was, but it did not matter, because they looked the same. The little thing whimpered lowly, a bit confused because this was a completely new scent. They were too far away for Firefly to hear a quiet complain. It would be worse if they were to start their screaming chorus, which happened too often. They had no reason to. Their small belly’s were bloated and full, and they were a bit tired, and therefore they would probably not make a lot of fuzz without a good reason. The adult male thought about Mew’s litter. Did her heart still sting when she laid her eyes upon the small children? Did she wish that they were hers? Did they look like any of hers? He had never seen the litter, had not even been in the lands when it had happen. He had arrived at the after-match and created hell for the guilty individual and her clan.

”Feel free to babysit as often as you want when their mother is away.” It would be hard since Firefly was their mother, but the least he could do was to ask, if only to openly invite her to take part of their lives as their aunt.

Gotta be Somebody

One little lump of nephew was placed in her arms, and the woman felt much of her insides burn with the sensation of holding the little thing. It whined a little, but not much, and laid quite still. She supposed they were too young to notice her that much, and the boy seemed sleepy as well. Haku's thoughts were right, she did have trouble not thinking about her own children. How could she not? She had never seen such a small child alive. The only children she had seen at such a young stage was her own, and they had been very dead. She hadn't looked at them long, either, and to have a little warm, moving bundle in her arms like this was.. well, a sensation she didn't know how well she'd been prepared for. She did wish that they were hers, but then again not at all. She wished that she had her own, some who would be adolescent now, nearly a year old, and could dote on their cousins Emwe and Conor. But there were none, and the only branch of family from Mew's side was herself. All these thoughts and more raced through her brain as she looked at the child for a few long moments, a tenderness in her eyes easily visible to all who searched for it. One hand supported the little thing, and another hovered near its face, as if wanting to touch it, but not quite daring. Oh Mew thought her longing was quenched, but it never would be until she had her own children, she knew that. Perhaps she could get some of it out of her system with these little boys, however, and when her brother announced she could babysit as much as she wanted, she felt a small light-beam soar through her, before it died alongside her hope. Handing the child back to its father, Mew mumbled a response - not sullen, but uncomfortable. "She won't allow it, you know that." Firefly hated Mew, and Mew hated Firefly. If either woman could help it, the other would not be near the children by a radius of a mile, but Firefly was their mother, and Mew was not. And that was how the world worked. Perhaps when they were older, but it would not work now. Still she appreciated how Haku intended to involve her, at least in theory, and Mew smiled and looked to the pair of living bundles again. "I will have my influence on their little minds when they get older, I guess."
