Private, Adelaida 500+

The chocolate and cream man was again in his halfling form, walking casually along the fine beach in the eastern part of Dahlia. Small snowflakes floated peacefully around him, dancing as the breeze sent them tumbling through the air. His face was turned towards the small island a bit off the shore. Although Dahlia had claimed the land around it and that the island was obviously a part of their land as well, he had never bothered with exploring it. Not yet at least, perhaps in the summer when the waters were warmer. The shallow water had a layer of ice, but further out the water moved freely, refusing to let the frost take control. The man shook his thick fur, and a cloud of white surrounded him for a brief moment. He lowered his face to the ground and dug the object up with his oversized paw. The cold ground refused to fully let it go, and the shell broke in half, leaving him with only one of two pieces. Useless. He abandoned it and continued to walk.

He should remark the borders today. The male was quite content with their claimed land. Half of it touched the sea, and so it was easier to keep an eye on trespassers. It would have soured his mood if he would have to walk around in circles day and night. Dahlia land had been strategically lined out, very much to his liking. The pack was large and still growing. Flayra was gone, according to the howl he had heard a week or so before. That child had always seemed somewhat distant to him, and at the pack hunt she had not seemed happy. Haku did not care about the loss of the child though, because puppies weren’t very useful around here anyway, and the female child had given him the impression of being frail. She had left because she was not happy (it was his bet, and those he had spoke to had barely known the girl at all), without trying to work things out with whoever scared her off. Haku did not like having weak members in his pack.

He wanted them all to be strong. Willow, Conor and Emwe was to grow up to be strong individuals and serve the pack just like their father. It would be tautological to relive what had happened to Coli with them. Fresh starts. Now when the pack was blooming, he had also played with the thought of requesting Cercelee to point out another sub leader to help administrate. It would also be very nice to have a buffer between Cercelee and himself, a third opinion. Firefly was too much like him, Mew held little interest, but the marked Head Warrior of the pack would have been a good choice. His short tail waved gently as he thought of the strange woman with warmth. His shoulder still ached somewhat from the wounds Cer had given him, and a mirror had revealed to him that his face was no longer free of scars. It had only been a question of time before it would have happened, but he had not imagined that the person that would scar him was his own leader for something he had done long before he came here and become her Lilium.

The winter weather couldn’t seem to make up it’s mind. Snowing, sunny, then raining, then snowing again. Adelaida barely noticed, and the frosty air and the falling flakes went undetected as the four legged female made her way slowly through the pack lands. Mirroring her self esteem, her eyes were down cast staring at the ground, rather in front of her as she ambled along. The girl knew that this method of moving was what often got her into trouble and sticky situations, yet she had never been able to get herself to ceased. It seemed rarely did she keep her head up, and even less so more than usual. It wasn’t that Dahlia was a horrible place, but she had expected a much different reunion with her sister and she had also expected Sankor’s presence to be more available to her.

Misfortune and disappointments were something the female was growing use to, and so she had simply accepted that her life in the pack was now just that, mostly a disappointment. Adelaida wouldn’t leave, she didn’t have the guts to do so all on her own. She had come here with Sankor and she would stay until he decided it was time to leave, which he wouldn’t until everything with Alexey had been settled. She had a long time to wait, and in the mean time, slowly, one by one, she was meeting the members of this pack. Most just added to her unhappiness. Now she was to meet another.

Coming upon him suddenly she stopped, he was only a few yards away by the time she had caught his scent and bothered to look up. Taking in a deep breath and without thinking, Adelaida approached him (doing so only because it was expected of her (or so she believed)). "Hello?"

The male had stopped in his tracks and watched the Dahlia wolfess when she first came into view. He was unsure if she had noticed him as of yet or not, because her gaze seemed to be pinned to the ground near her feet. Names passed in his head, and he settled at Adelaida Koios. He knew the three siblings lived together in Dahlia de Mai, but so far he had only met Alexey. He was quite certain this was the darker sister. The Koios male had a similar coat to Ade, he knew, but the wolf coming his way was definitely a female. His short tail moved lazily behind him, teased by the gentle breeze. His ears pointed forwards when she was close enough to finally allow her eyes to leave the frosted ground. Hello, she said. Very well. The leader tilted his head and looked at her. Her coloration was somewhat unusual to what he was used to. She was darker than her sister with a different aura, but in appearance she was not bad. A good and warm mocha brown dominated her face, accompanied by a dazzling clear blue. A smile took the righteous place on his mouth, and it almost touched his baby blue gaze. She looked rather frail compared to the Lilium in the halfling form. She did not seem to be in such a good mood, but he had never set his eyes on this female before, and therefore he let it pass.

”Adelaida Koios I presume?” He lowered his neck slightly so to get down to her level. ”I’m Haku Soul. It’s nice to finally meet you.” If she was anything like her sister he was destined to dislike her. He already did somewhat just because of his opinion of Adelatida’s female sibling, but he did not allow it to show. Right now he was an image of a friendly and emphatic guy, happy to have met a new soul to converse with.

Eyes widened as the male introduced himself and her. Swallowing in a way that could only be described as a gulp, Adelaida tried to force a smile to appear on her lips. How had he known who she was? Yet he was the Lilium, wasn’t it his job to stay on top of such issues? Or perhaps he had heard of her from some friend. She recalled the conversation with Mew, sister to this male. Yes, she had heard about him too, but not enough to guess him from any other wolf in the pack. Maybe if they were all assembled together, when he clearly showed rank and power over the others, but not now, not right out of the blue. The fact that he had been able to do so with her scared her, and though she tried not to let it show she failed.

"Yes, I am Adelaida… nice to meet you too." And although it was terrifying, it was in a way, nice to meet him. At least now she knew who he was, and it was important to know the leaders. She hadn’t even met the Rosea yet, but she was terrified to do that too. Authority figures were always terrifying, except for her father. He had been the head of the family, and while no one questioned him, he had always been so warm and loving. She did not imagine the Rosea or Lilium to be warm and loving. "I hear you are a new father… congratulations."

Her gulp made it only more obvious that she already was feeling terribly uncomfortable. The male only assumed that his reputation had reached her velvet eats long before today. It always did. He was used to it and would overcome every obstacle. The trick was to distance himself from the rest. At the birth scene he had failed and shown them weakness. It would not happen again. Haku Soul had not forgotten his old ways, and he took some of them in use once again, shutting the world out mentally while seemingly staying the same. A cold and strict leader officially, but the same dignity did not grace him with its presence now. He was however, still a cold man, and with such a natural mask that he more often than not seemed completely emotionless, which he was anyway. Haku had not met all the members in the pack, but as leading scout and leader in the pack, he saw it as his duty to have an overview of the members. Who came and left. He flickered his ears halfway backwards, not fully understanding why she seemed afraid of him. Usually people just outright despised him, but he was not often met with fear. Not fear, but the female looked timid, fragile and uncomfortable. She was afraid of him. He could not comfort her, because he did not know her. She seemed less bitchy than her sister though, but things did not come automatically the first meeting. It would be fun to figure out.

She mumbled something about him being a father and all. He accepted the congratulation by placing a small smile on his mouth. It was not warm nor comforting, only polite and nothing more. He was not happy about it, everything would have been better if it had not happened. ”Thank you, though I can honestly say that I do not handle the role very well.” He would not throw too much effort into the father role, only enough for the pack to accept that he was a functioning father. Things were not good, and it was hard to spend time with the children and Firefly without creating sharp words between the adults. The children did not understand most of what was being said, but they picked up the bitter emotions between their parents. They had been born into a broken home, and he knew they would never know how it would be to grow up in a happy family that took care of each other. Haku could never offer such a thing, because he was not made that way. The Lilium was a damaged soul, and therefore he could not fully be trusted raising a couple of healthy ones. His blue eyes stayed confidently on her, never faltering. ”Are you afraid of me, Adelaida?” There were no correct answers for this, he only wished the truth and why. Reason or no reason, he wanted to know. People hated and feared him for various reasons nowadays, most often he never figured out what for.

Adelaida smiled, as if to encourage the male to practice harder, try harder… anyone could be a father, a good father, if they wished. Yet her smiled was derived more from hearing the shortcoming of the Lilium. His rank was high, and yet he admitted a flaw, Adelaida liked that. Perhaps he was just being humble, perhaps he was exaggerating his own fears, yet his voice sounded sincere. He sounded as if he was someone who knew, without a doubt, that he was indeed a horrible father. And maybe he even felt guilty. Maybe. Adelaida hoped that was the case.

His eyes on hers made her more nervous, intensified the anxiety she felt towards this male. And the question he posed startled her. This was not a question one should ask, but Adelaida would answer it. "I’m afraid of everyone." And it was true. There was nothing special about Haku, other than he seemed to her a mind reader and was staring intently, it was mostly that, anyone could startle her if they just took the time to do so. And why not be honest? Adeladia lied, she did, but he already knew she was shaking in the knees, it was silly to deny it now. She had a better question than the one he has asked anyway. "Should I be scared of you?"

His question was perhaps out of order, but Haku was known for blunting out with questions that he wanted answered, important or not. She had seemed uncomfortable with him from the first moment, and that was not common. Not like this anyway. Well, his rumour was not very good, so he could understand if she already had made up her mind. Whatever, their opinions mattered little to him. Her answer was honest enough, and now he could understand the woman much better. So she was one of them? A little rabbit in a wolf’s coat. Very well, they were all different, and Dahlia could not only hold strong individuals. As long as she was somewhat useful for the pack, he had no issues with her problem. Her question back almost surprised him. It was a good one nevertheless. He was her leader, her protector. The answer to her question should be no, but he did not like to lie unless he was forced to. ”Yes, you should.” His answer was simple and straight. It was true, he was monster, and she should be aware of that fact. As long as she was in Dahlia she would be safe (or so was he believed), but if she did anything to harm the pack the slightest way, then she would suffer greatly. He attempted to offer her a small smile, but it never reached his cool eyes. It was a serious subject, and he could not offer her any comfort that was not based on a lie.

”You say you’re afraid of everyone. Why?” He was a curious one, the Lilium of Dahlia de Mai. He wanted to know.

His answer was met with an involuntary shudder. Adelaida wanted the male to be joking, but his eyes were serious. Either he was a good liar, which was a scary skill for strangers to have, or he believed she should really fear him. And she did. Adelaida wish that she hadn’t approached. She could have waited until the Lilium sought her out, but that would have been cowardly. Of course, she was a coward, so it wouldn’t have been out of character. Adelaida only hoped that their top leader wasn’t half as bad as the one before her, but she didn’t know and could only expect the worse from the place Alexey called home. Yet he made no move to hurt her, and Adelaida made no move to leave, as much as she would have liked to. Instead she waited, and he asked a question of his own. "Well why not? They are all very horrible… everyone…" But mostly she meant Luperci and coyote, but it seemed more and more that was everyone. How many non Luperci were left in the world? She couldn’t even count herself anymore.

She believed him without any question. Good, then he trusted that he would not ever have to deal with any bullshit from her. Adelaida seemed like a coward, and so she would never rise to be a worthy troublemaker. He did not necessarily intend to do anything horrible (after all, he was the pack’s guardian), but he liked knowing where he had the different Dahlia de Mai members, for.. practical reasons. There was no plot being worked out in the male’s head as of yet, but there was definitely room for more greatness if they just exploited the pack’s strength and amount of members. Dahlia was at the moment the largest pack in ‘Souls. Truth be told, he did not even know if a pack had been this large ever, at least not while he had been present. It gave a sweet feeling of strength and victory, although the increase of numbers had nothing to do with him, except for two idiotic balls of fur.

Ade’s answer made no sense. ”Why? We protect you, we feed you, and we gave you a home. Does kindness make us horrible?” He wanted to see logic and reason. Listening to empty words was not his style. She was a coward, but an interesting one. He took for granted that she was talking about the pack, but as far as he knew the worst members in this pack was him and Firefly, and he had never really met Adelaida Koios before today, so what was the issue here?

Adelaida laid her ears flat against her head, her tail tucked further between her legs at his words. She full heartedly disagreed. " I didn’t want this to be my home… I just wanted my sister back." She had to admit that fact. Besides, none of them had fed her or protected her. If anything, between Svara and Firefly, the only harassed her here. Alexey too had shown a darker side. Was that the type of wolves Dahlia de Mai attracted? Their Lilium seemed quite dark himself. "You are all… shifters, y-yes? " They were, she hadn’t met one of them who wasn’t, except Sankor, but he didn’t count for much just now. They were horrible, this was a horrible, horrible place.

His ears flattened slightly as she grew more uncomfortable. Though, her words made no sense to him at all. When the female let it be known that she did not even want this place to be her home, his eyes darkened slightly. He understood. This woman was useless, more than useless. She was only here because of the idiot caretaker’s sake. This woman would never be of value, because she was disloyal from the start. She had just said so herself, just in other words. It was the same thing. He took a step forward when her words sounded again, her question sounding suspicious in the furry chocolate ears. What kind of pathetic question was that? ”Not all. Why? Does it matter?” Was this what was her problem? Hating shifters? Alexey was a shifter, and the mere idea of hating shifters just because they could shift was the stupidest thing. Surely this was not the case, right? His tail slowly moved with the light breeze. He could easily make it worse for the woman, but it was interesting to investigate idiocy.

Adelaida watched him, saw his eyes darken; felt that he was growing disinterested and unhappy with her. That was how it usually went. She engaged someone, anyone, in conversation, and with her words showed them truly the kind of damaged, broken beast that she was. Twisted and sick even. Adelaida looked away, she could lie, she lied often, but she was learning too that often lies would blow up in her face later. The truth blew up as soon as it came out. "Yes. " Maybe if she did not expand it would stay contained, the bomb that her words often made. Maybe if she did not tell him how ugly, disgusting, untrustworthy shifters were he would let it pass. But she would not lie, not this time. "Yes, it matters. "

He bluntly stared at her, unmoving, his gaze intense and aiming to go straight through her skull. Exactly what kind of creature was this woman in front of him? Who had been so foolish to let in a retarded wolf into Dahlia? In truth, there were not many individuals in Dahlia de Mai that he actually disliked, but he believed this was a good and worthy candidate for such a thing. She seemed like a stupid wuss, a little cunt with no back bone. His lips lifted slightly to hint of the ivory daggers that were hidden behind. His shortened tail lashed through the air one single time, a sign of aggravation from his side. She spoke gibberish. ”And why does it matter, Adelaida?” Her name held a bitter taste, and he knew she would know his cruelty in the future. The demon hissed gently in his ear, talking of the greater good and lack of loss. ”Is it because you know we’re much better than your kind? Because yours is a dying breed, devoured by something stronger?”, the man teased rudely.

This is getting outdated like woah, making Ade run away now!

Her stomach spun and swirled and twisted itself into knots. Whatever courage she had felt or feigned was not draining fast. Adeladia could physically feel the cowardice taking hold, her heart beating far too fast and her breath ceased coming. Still, she would try, try to regain whatever it was that had possessed her to take with this male in the first place. "W-we’re not a dying br-breed. " It was pathetic, her words and her lie. She knew they were, and she knew too she was not even one of them anymore. Any children of hers were likely to be shifters, even if she could find a mate without the luperci genes anymore.

Slowly, unconsciously, she took a step back. Her glaring eyes, his accusing words, they were beginning to chip at her. They had been all along, but like a tree being chopped down it only took that one last blow and the whole thing fell over. It did not matter how small the blow was, it just had to chip just enough away. And Haku did. Turning fast, before he could retort with most hateful words she fled, vowing to keep away from her own Lilium if she could help it.
