feel the fear in my enemy's eyes

The weather finally seemed to be letting go of the cold. Spring, though still a long way away, was something he was looking forward to more and more. He could already see the changes coming into the library. They had been subtle at first, just less dust on the shelves, the books moved from one part to another, organised by subject and author, neat little stacks of knowledge. But now the windows were always open and the curtains drawn, or whatever was left of them. He wanted to find someone who could help him with it, actually. He wondered if anyone in Dahlia could sow. That would be such a handy trick.

Because of the clear weather Lubomir was outside reading. It was an old, dusty book with the title Anna Karenina fading on the front cover. He enjoyed the story. It was full of intrigue, forbidden love and a setting he knew very little about, which only meant that he wanted to whet his appetite even more. The sun would break through the clouds now and again, casting long shadows around him, but still he read on. The grey male had managed to attain a measure of inner peace and he'd be damned if he let it go.

As was her usual custom, Willow was once again wandering around the packlands. Today, she'd found herself at the library. She was cautious with human structures, even though she and her family lived in a house. She tiptoed in, peering around. It was huge to the girl, and stacks of books towered over her. She knew what they were, momma and tal read them a lot. Sometimes they read them to her too.

In the corner, she saw a mouse. instinct overrode caution, and she crouched, stalking the mouse. It froze and then fled. Willow chased it, bumping over a few stacks of books, barking loudly. She crashed into another stack of books as the mouse fled into it's hole in the wall. Willow stepped back a few paces, eyeing the teetering stack nervously. As they crashed down, she fled again, her tail between her legs, yelping. She took refuge under a table, eyeing the surrounding building.

OOC: Ta-dah fail!

Lubomir had been so caught up in his book that nothing short of an explosion was likely to get his attention. By the sounds coming from the Library, it seemed that an explosion was exactly what was happening. His head snapped to attention, pulled out of the story in such a violent manner. He looked around wildly before realising the sounds were coming from indoors. Placing a bookmark to remember where he had stopped reading, the grey male went inside cautiously. Had it been a gust of wind or something more? Though he could not honestly see who or what would want to destroy a Library. The stacks of books had been knocked to the ground and as he made his way further inside he picked them all up, arranging them again with a distracted air.

By the smell of it, there was indeed a stranger here. The male used his nose to locate exactly who it was and it came as a great surprise to find the culprit under the table. It all became a lot clearer when he realised it was a pup. He hadn't really known there were puppies in the pack, but this one seemed rather cute. He recalled Simon and for all that this one was younger and a female, he couldn't hide his smile of amusement. "Come out of there, little one, I won't hurt you." He smiled reassuringly. It would be a nice thing to spend time with a younger member of the pack. Lubomir had long ago given up on thinking of Svara as a pup, as it only served to annoy her. A temperamental teenager was the last thing he wanted to deal with, especially among his books.

Sky blue eyes peered up at the approaching male. "Is the monster gone?" Her voice came in a fearful whisper. Indeed, it seemed as if a monster had pushed over the books, trying to squish her. Perhaps firefly had knocked them over to flatten her. Firefly didn't like her or her momma. Willow slunk out a little, her eyes darting nervously to the toppled stack of books, then back up at the big male. He was tall, and stood on two legs. Daddy didn't stand on two, but Momma sometimes did. She hoped someday she'd learn to stand on two legs. Tal said he could, but he preferred not to.

She came a little further out so she could sniff at the stranger. She tilted her head, looking up at him. "Who are you?"

Monster? What in the world could she be talking about? Lubomir couldn't genuinely tell. Other than the two of them, there was no one else in the library. He could smell no other scent and unless the wolf had somehow managed to disguise themselves, he doubted they had another intruder. What could anyone want with a library anyway? They could steal the books, sure, but why? There wasn't a raging black market for books and the grey male had been open enough about his project that he expected others to just come and take books as they pleased, as long as he knew about it. Still, he made a great show of looking around, more for the pup's benefit than his own. "I think the monster's gone, I must have chased it away."

He smiled when she moved closer, his eyes belying the real warmth he felt. He could see himself having pups with Mew some day and if they ever did, he wanted them to look like this. Cute and innocent. "I'm Lubomir. I'm the Librarian, I take care of the books here. Who are you, little one? He didn't feel it worth mentioning that he was also Ambassador. Not because he wasn't proud of his position, but because it would be strange to try and explain politics and pack dynamics to one so young. Pups should be left to be pups while they could.
