The Ides of March

She turned this way and that in front of the mirror, piling her hair up on top of her head and then letting it go again. When she'd run away from her mother she had always used a knife to keep her mane very short, but now that she was here it was beginning to grow out. She didn't know how long she wanted it to get...it was really curly, so it didn't look as long as it really was. So she would probably end up letting it get pretty long. Occasionally the hair got into her face when she was trying to hunt or scout, and she held it back with a ribbon, but today she didn't mind as much.

She stood in the center of a room that was full of lights and mirrors. She'd found a school in the city, a place that humans had once used for teaching and learning, and had wandered into the stage and studio portion of it. This was most certainly a changing and makeup room for stage performers; each mirror had lights around it, some cracked and some broken off completely, and there were multiple plugins around every partition.

Siobhan held up one child's dress, looking at it in the mirror. Light shone down from multiple holes in the roof, illuminating pieces of the fabric and making it so that she could see the color of it. It was a dark red color, a shade that nearly matched the coyote's eyes.

Would this be a good choice? She had wanted some clothing for a while...and ones of these type seemed good for her. She would be able to walk and hunt in them and she could move around without making too much sound. They were open in the bottom, so it wouldn't feel like her legs were being restricted by anything. She'd tried on pants...and those hadn't felt good at all. She started to slip the dress on, pulling it up around herself. There was a zipper in the back, but she couldn't quite reach it.

cakeBy now, the dark wolf was beginning to understand the old city, beginning to see it through eyes that had a memory, with the familiarity and comfort of a lover. It was feeling more like a place to call home, this massive concrete graveyard he lived in. Some of the streets he knew by name, and those whose street signs were worn, faded away or torn down, he had named himself. It had been a lot of wandering, a lot of gathering, that had given him this knowledge, and he still followed the old paths he had made when he had first arrived, as well as finding new ones. It was partially the paranoia that kept him moving. One must be as familiar was possible with their surroundings.

cakeThe city's various hospitals and clinics were some of his favourite haunts. On his way to one of these that day, Bane caught the familiar scent of someone he had met some time ago. It also smelled of Inferni, which made the instinct rear its head in him like a hungry dragon. Without pause, he moved towards it, following her; he was a protective man, and the idea of a lady out on her own in a place like this didn't sit well with him. Not to mention he had told her, once, they would see each other again, and Bane was the type who kept his promises.

cakeThe school was fairly easy to navigate, despite the dark hallways that smelled of must, as did everything else in this city. It was something he was used to, by now. He found her soon enough, in a room full of mirrors. She was on two legs, looking older then she had when he had first met her, but not much bigger. Curly hair and a red dress that matched her eyes. Bane smiled as he moved forward, slowly, calmly. "Hello, Miss Siobhan," he told her with that genial smile. "Would you like some help with that?" It seemed as if she was having trouble zipping it up.

In the months since she had seen Bane she had grown up quite a bit. Now Ezekiel had told her that she was an adult in the clan, that she would be given certain duties to help out the clan. She couldn't act like a pup any more. Soon, Zeke would begin to train her to defend herself, he had said. She wasn't sure whether to be happy about that or not. If she could defend herself, then would he still be around to help her? She didn't want to live out on her own, she wanted to live with him.

She watched Bane when he entered the room, through the mirror that she looked into. She could see her own reflection and him behind her. It had been a while...but she would have recognized him anywhere. "Yes, please. Bane is here too--why?" Her words weren't coming out right. "I means...eh...this is where Bane lives? Or did he come here for a reason too?"

cakeAlongside the girl's unique scent, the smell of Inferni filled the room, reigning even over the dust and decay that had creeped so slowly and surely into the city. Bane found he was glad she was alive and well. There was peace in these lands, as tenuous as it might be. Moving forward, the dark wolf reached down and took the zipper, carefully zipping it up so as not to catch any of the white coyote's fur. Her speech was familiar, as broken as it had been before, and he smiled as he replied.

cake"I live nearby here," he told her as he moved back, "but not in this building, no. I was just passing by, Miss Siobhan, and I noticed you were nearby so I decided to say hello. How have you been?" It had been some time since they had met, and likely many things had changed, though if there was one thing he knew it was that nothing ever changed all that much.

She tried really hard to speak the same way that everyone else did, but it was hard and sometimes she felt like it wasn't really worth it. Others understood what she was saying, for the most part, so why did it matter how she said it? Maybe she didn't sound smart, but as long as they knew her they would know that she wasn't stupid. She could think and process things just the same as anyone else.

"Siobhan has been okay. She is learning how to hunt...but it is not fun. Fishing, maybe. Yes, she likes to fish." She really liked the ocean in general. Ever since her discovery of it, the last time that she had seen the dark wolf, she'd been fixated on it. "Thank you for your help. You has been okay too? Good?"
