_____Finding Jasper was a task that Corona didn't have to try hard for. He would stay out of sight from those who were bound to hurt him, this much she knew, but she couldn't have been sure that they wouldn't come seeking him out. But she hesitated in tracking him down, objectifying it and acting as though he were something so small he was just that hard to find. She didn't use her nose as she slowly scoured the mansion for him; her mind was working overtime trying to figure out how to tell him what she didn't want to tell him.

_____Actually, it didn't even feel that real to her. Death was so final, death was something that they had all seemingly evaded so much of already. Yet it had come and she was finding quickly that she didn't know how to deal with it. This time it had struck far too close to home, as any other time it had come about it had been to those she hadn't known as well. Or those that she had drifted away from. Or those that she hadn't even known at all beyond a chance encounter and a name. Letting a hand run along the panelling as she ventured down a hallway, the gold-haired Lykoi let out a heavy sigh. This wasn't fair, but when had life ever been fair?

_____The entryway to the basement was old and worn, mostly made out of the mortar and mud of the time. A stairwell well worn and curving, she instinctively steadied herself as she went to the last place she had seen him go, and hoped he would be there. “Hey, Jasper?” she called out softly as one foot hit the floor, letting her eyes scan the dimly lit rooms beneath the house. Corona hoped he was in there somewhere, rather than upstairs and holed away somewhere or outside. She didn't think she had the willpower at that point to go and look for him beyond where she had been already.

The basement, which had previously felt like more of a cell than anything else, had blossomed into something like a sanctuary for the young male. There were candles all about, lining the sides of the floor, shelves, and book cases, but not a single on of them had ever been lit. There pots and pans, books and all sorts of shiny trinkets to keep the young man occupied. Off in the corner, where Jasper currently resided, was a large pile of blankets and pillows, but mostly pillows. He'd discovered, not that long ago, that giant plush pillows were a favorite of his, and that was where he sat when the sound of feet on the stairs could be heard.

The sound of the steps made him paranoid, made him sink down into the pile of pillows. He didn't know who it was, his nose couldn't tell him, and it was likely someone coming to look for something, since the basement had been nothing but a stockpile of random items before he took it over. The voice though, which he identified immediately, calmed him. "I'm here!" And he was happy that it was Corona, that he wasn't going to be cornered in the basement by someone that would likely not be happy to find him there.

It was the note of happiness in his tone that drove yet another spike into her, even though she knew where it was coming from. She hated having to make sure he was hidden away, but it was for the best. Or was it? It seemed fair to start questioning that now because everything she hadn't questioned before was starting to surface and bubble away. But for now, she kept her composure when she thought she could not and without much hesitation as she spied him out in the dim depths, she curtailed the distance between them.

“You've certainly got this place looking nice,” she commented, making idle conversation. “Must be nice to have a house over your head, hm?” It was a bad attempt to make a bad joke, but she knew it was better than nothing. It was a roof over his head, the living conditions were pretty crappy, but he was back in an element that he had partially been raised in. In some regards, Jasper had been spoiled on some of his living areas; Corona had, up until they had gone overseas, lived with dirt floors and dirt walls. A wood door was about as fancy as they had ever gotten.
