per Maria!

The air was chilled but Beppe was numb to it. His eyes traced along the ground and he dwelled on the pointed silence of his mother. What had just happened had been partially out of her hands, and he, being the only English speaker between the two and yet the child, had taken it into his. He hoped it would be okay. He would have to make it okay, if it wasn't going to be. If all the wolves were like Jasper and the weather was only like this a few days a year, the boy figured they'd make it through all right. Perhaps there was a shop where they could find warmer clothes.

"Che cosa pensi, mamma?" he said softly, giving up on batting the snow from his eyes and letting it settle on his long lashes. In the distance the fog seemed to become more dense, and Beppe figured that it was Vapour Lake they were coming upon. He glanced over his shoulder to look at the footsteps they were making in the snow. The young boy's were already larger than his mother's.

---- It was quiet. The snow seemed to have added onto that, making everything innocent and untouched, until they got there. Maria silently wondered what the place looked like without the blanket of snow. Blinking away a few flakes from her eyes, she looked down as her feet made their impressions into the snow, watching things change instantly. Her life had seemed that way lately, changing so fast that she didn't have time to embrace anything. She had left Piero in an instant only to find her son and to be trapped on the ship that was crossing oceans. She didn't even have much of a say in order to get back, but when they arrived on the new land, she decided to take it for what it was worth.

---- Her boy spoke to her after a long silence and she looked down at him with a vague smile. "Prima," she spoke quietly with a smile. "Perché lei chiede?" she questioned as she stopped walking, pausing in the snow and brushing flakes off her muzzle.

Things had changed so much, and Beppe thought that his mother's disposition had as well. She still graced him with a quiet, knowing smile, though, and immediately the young boy felt just a little bit better. She seemed to be taking the changes in stride, despite how juxtaposed she was against this type of world. He smiled back up at her, the edges of his lips curling unevenly, and shrugged a little. The boy noticed that he was almost taller than her, as well.

"Non lo so." The smile stayed on Beppe's face as he looked back down to the ground. Underneath the silence, every single movement seemed to cry out, and his attention focused on things that existed within a short radius of the two foreigners. The wolf's brown eyes caught upon the way his mother held her chin, the way their four feet, covered in flakes of snow, fell in stride as they walked pari passu. "É bello, vero?"

----Power playing a bit. :X!

---- Maria didn't answer his question, despite her agreement. The snow was nice, but cold, and she wasn't sure if she liked it or not. She knew the two of them had to find some sort of shelter and knew at this place, instinct would come in handy. She had never dug her own den before, having stayed in either run down homes or houses built by her old home, or even no where at all when she first got in the mix with Piero. Her eyes closed as she stood in one stop, now, not wanting to walk too much farther.

---- "Lei è la sola cosa ho bisogno di," she said, softly, as she leaned forward to take her son into a tight embrace. Her arms draped tightly around him as she clung to him. She hadn't given him a chance to speak when she said that they needed a home, even if he was the one who spoke every word. Maria wondered if she had hurt him somehow, trying to make herself believe that it was her own self doubt. "La voglio essere la cassaforte; per avere una casa," she added on, her voice barely a whisper, but close to his ear so he could hear her.

YOU JERK!11!

Despite the warmth that was beginning to flow between them again, the embrace that Beppe was suddenly caught up in was unexpected. His former believe that his mother was in ill spirits was completely discursive; even in these quiet moments he could sense that she had the same kind of feeling settling over her as he did. He felt somewhat numb to everything around him, displaced yet somewhat content. The two wolves did have each other, still, and though his father was weeks away, the bond that was strongest was still intact.

He smiled at his mother's whispers, pulling back a bit and looking across into her eyes. "Penso abbiamo trovato la nostra casa." He detached himself from her and turned his head towards the lake. After a moment he began to walk towards it again. "Voglio vedere questo lago."

---- Maria was glad that the warmth between them was rising. Her front side was warming up now but she felt a cold rush of air between them as he pulled away after their embrace. It took some effort not to show the disappointment on her face as he slipped away and moved toward the lake. Silently she wanted to just curl up with someone out of the cold and wind to keep warm, but Beppe had other things on his mind. Maria didn't object, but instead she watched him, wondering what he would do. He still had his young curiosity within him and it made her smile. She never wanted him to grow up.

Beppe took a few steps towards the lake before peering back at his mother through the fog. He made his hands into fists and lifted them up to his mouth to breath warm air onto them. "Accidenti," he said, waiting for his chestnut furred mother to catch up, "Fa freddo bestiale." He shrugged his shoulders and clustered flakes of snow drifted off them.

The wolf had, indeed, been growing up fast. Before the ship ride he was much smaller than his mother, and now he had surpassed her size. Soon he would be quite a bit bigger, and probably at some point he would be the one to help her with setting up a den or hunting, rather than the other way around. Beppe could remember her teaching him these things; how to get the rabbit from just the right angle, the best way to fish. These things were so far away in his memory that he had to concentrate to recall them, stare into the distance for a few moments. Perhaps they would become more vivid when the stimuli outside dulled a little.

He wondered for a moment if his mother felt just as cold as he was, and surely this was true. They had come from the same place, and his mother was likely more accustomed to the temperate weather of southern Europe than he was. The ship ride over had been cold as well, but they were out of the wind and tucked under blankets. The boy blew on his hands again, pausing until his mother was at his side before starting towards the lake once more.

out of character
----- Sorry for the wait, dear. I should be getting back on my feet with Maria soon.
in character
----- Now that they had found their home in Clouded Tears, Maria doubted they would ever go back. She had experienced so much since being caught on that pirate ship, but maybe it had been for the best. She had realized that she didn't need Piero to lean on when she had Beppe, but she was careful not to lean on him too much. Maria didn't want to hurt him in anyway, but instead protect him the best that she knew how. Her eyes gleamed as he adjusted to the cold and she did the same thing. Her arms lifted and the palms of her hands pressed against the back of her arms, rubbing up and down to start a fire in her fur.

----- Maria moved forward to catch up to Beppe's side as they neared the lake, looking it over. Perhaps if it were frozen over they could attempt to ice skate. She had only heard of it maybe once or twice but never experienced it herself and if they were lucky, they could try. Someone once tried to explain it to her but didn't fully grasp the concept. With a smile on her face, she leaned and nudged him in the side of the face with her nose.

Me too :/ Time went so slowly when I was sick but now it's zooming along. Abbiamo finito? Tongue

Despite the boy's happiness and the new passion for a new beginning that was welling up inside of him, he felt strangely heavy. For some reason he felt as if his mother was unhappy with what he had decided. She was really quite quiet, and he was rather insecure about taking the new responsibility he had. He was old enough now though, he figured. Beppe couldn't always be translating back and forth, though; she had to pick up some English eventually. He was rushing it, though. They had only been there a few days.

Maria was quite obviously happy there, though. The cold wasn't quite getting into her bones, and she was smiling. Beppe smiled too, also pleased. There seemed to be great potential over here, though the climate was so different and the social life seemed to be too. They'd adapt.
