She felt the need to venture off, forgetting the things that needed to be done and the things that didn’t want to wait. They would need to. There were weeds to pull, and soil to turn. There was the kitchen floor that needed scrubbing, and as always the boarder need to be walked and secured. But Anu felt the day would be long enough, and for once would have enough hours in it to get everything finished.

The spring day was picture perfect. The morning dew clung to the new blades of grass, and the air was warm but still held the night’s cold touch. Anu breathed the scent of dawn in deeply when she exited the manor, and let her paws take her wherever they wanted. Lazily they skirted westward, keep her at an easy trot and working at a relaxed pace. In no need to be anywhere at any moment it was almost noon when she found herself deep within the Trenches.

Blue eyes danced over the green landscape. Taking in the brought light the sun shone over the tree dotted plain. Feeling the orb’s heat along her back she retreated to the long shadow of a tall and aged elm. Its round trunk sprouted from gnarled and raised roots. Two made the perfect seat, and she settled happily between them. Looking out into the distance Anu looked back in the direction in which she came, wondering if all things she left were waiting happily for her return. But, she wasn’t ready to go back and find out.
