sunflower sunset,
just one please.

It was a terrible walk, but she was so far from home already. Nights had been spent away from the manor, and days away from the faces of her family. She certainly didn’t want to run away, and didn’t want to think that was what she was doing. A voice called from the back of her mind, drifting in and out of her consciousness, reminding her that it was exactly what she was doing. Anu knew she would return, the need for her bed and the comfort and security of the boarders would call to her as strongly as the new changing territory did. The Crimson Dream's wolfess knew she would turn and walk home, the wandering side satisfied and her mind free of troubled thoughts. All she needed was to release the anxiety, and confusion. Let it roll off her toes with each step she took.

The sky hung over her, a mixture of blue and dingy white clouds rolled above. She could smell rain in the air, but with a hopeful wish believed that it would only pass by without releasing a rain drop. Her two paws brought her to the edge of the meadow, and a smile wrapped around her maw. Blue eyes looked for a long moment, taking in the sight before her. Finger danced over them as she strode through their masses. Their fragrance lifted to her nose, wrapping her in a familiar comfort. It was sweet, and the pollen-laden air tickled her nose into a sneeze. Stifling it, the female let her fingers brush the face of the nearest flower. Its round dark face look upward to meet her, sun colored peddles waving in the lazy breeze.

It made her think of home, of the garden her had been neglecting and the urge she knew would surface filled her chest. The place was to sweet to cut her visit short, but the female knew very well where she would head next. But at the moment she only took in the sight of the wild grown flora. Her smile no more then a soft curve of her lips, while she contemplated which to pick and take with her.

heyyy! it's been ages and ages <3

The day was warm and sunny, and the weather reminded Alacrity of home. Fluffy white clouds were rolling on the horizon, tossed cotton against a sea of blue. The clouds promised rain by evening, suggested by the strong water scent laced through the air. Alacrity was not yet accustomed to the bounty of water found everywhere on the 'souls landscape, and eagerly awaited the coming rain. Water tended to be scarce in the summer on the savannas of her youth and she would always watch for incoming storms with anticipation.

There was nothing exciting about her current state, however. She'd recently discovered this lush field of wildflowers and it hat quickly become one of her favorite haunts. The colors and scents pleasantly overloaded her senses, and there were plenty of odd birds for her to gawk at as they flew by (and many stared at her in return). Alacrity was dozing in a fragrant bed of wild mint when her over-large ears noted a rustle in the vegetation that could not be attributed to the wind or a small creature in the undergrowth. Standing and squinting against the sun, the foreign female attempted to locate her company.

yay! i know, thanks for joining :]

It looked at her, round dark pollen laden face pointing upwards and in her direction. It watched her with an unmoving gaze. The wolfess cast a shadow against the flower, knowing that she stood in its sunlight. Moving in respect for its food source Anu wandered further into the field of flowers. She wore a small smile, only half alive in her lack of effort and relaxation as she moved among the plants. The day couldn’t be more perfect, the sun and the sky that cradled it shown down with a similar soft smile. Grinning for the sheer pleasure of it, effortlessly.

Her mind was put to work, as foreign scents found their way to her nose. For a moment Anu didn’t care to notice, hoping to keep the fragile mindset she held. But the presence of the other canine was just as lax and calm as the energy she brought while they walked towards each other. Ear perked as blue eyes looked down towards the interesting looking wolf. Scratching the label from her mind she know at a second thought that this was no wolf.

Smile came to full life as Anu looked to her, approaching with no reserve. Hello, I’m Anu It was only natural for the female to greet her with such a casual tone. The earth that surrounded then prepared only one sort of meeting. This was no place for angry, or even hesitation. Her fingers danced lightly over the face of yet another sunflower, greeting it with the same amount of warmth.

ten thousand apologies for the delay. summer school is being rather demanding

Although the sunshine and pollen had made her indolent, Alacrity shook off the worst of her grogginess as soon as it became apparent that she would have some company on this fine spring day. A smile came to her lips, part pleasure and part excitement; she'd not yet had much contact with the natives of this place. Using the smile to camouflage the resulting nervousness, the African canine beamed her response. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Anu. My name's Alacrity." If her appearance hadn't been enough to suggest it, speech confirmed Alacrity's foreign status. She was clearly a student of English with all of the related quirks. She spoke clearly and smoothly, but somewhat slowly as if each sentence required thought. And of course, there was no hiding an accent as thick as hers.

Alacrity pushed herself up into a seated position, oversized ears swiveling out of habit as she did so. It was unnecessarily awkward to converse laying down. Not only was the other shifted and upright, but larger by default as well. "The flowers here are lovely." She nodded to the one Anu currently caressed. "What are they called?"

always worth the wait, sorry for my delay too

She felt like she was floating. Time moved slowly, standing still around the two beasts. Anu grew curious to know her species, but such a question was a delicate one between strangers and still, between new acquaintances it was one that needed care. Anu kept it in the back of her mind, waiting in case this new wolf would give the information on her own. Ears took in the interesting sound of her voice just as keenly as the words she spoke, Alacrity Anu thought. It was an interesting name for an interesting looking beast.

Mind shifted towards the ocean of plants they stood among. Blue eyes looked down to the one she touched, a small smile gracing her lips as she spoke. They are lovely aren't they. There are Sun Flowers, Helianthus annuus. The name of the plant rolling off her experienced tongue. There were an easy one to remember, their size and bright color making them easy to spot. Looking back to the female she questioned with a soft voice. Your not from around here, are you? It was neither demanding or suspicious, only curious.

"Sunflowers" Alacrity parroted carefully, rolling the words over her tongue like a connoisseur savoring the taste of a perfectly aged wine. "Sun. Flowers. That's apt." Alacrity was no botanist, nor a gardener -- studying in the conventional sense was difficult when one lacked opposable thumbs -- and she did not know that the flower's heads would track the sun as it crossed the sky; nor was she aware that come autumn, these fields would be awash with birds seeking the rich, oily seeds the flowers would produce. But she could appreciate the near-perfect roundness of the many petals and the bright, vibrant gold. Alacrity was not a poet, but could appreciate beauty in the presence of analogy.

"No, I'm not" she replied with a quirk of a smile on her lips. "Was it my accent or my face that gave me away?" There was a note of humor in her voice, a piece of cheery brightness that had earned her adult name. (Among her culture, pups were given a call-name in their youth and earned a name befitting their personality around their first birthday. These pup names tended to be simple and nature-related. Alacrity, for example, had been named after a native African flower. Her mother, sisters, and dearest friends would still call her such, in private). Deciding this was a incomplete response, she continued on, "I was born on an African savanna, across the sea and half a world away."

She nodded, the large flowers held a small bit of the sun’s power all their own. Very appropriate. she agreed softly. Anu would have to return at the turn of winter, see the remains of the vast fields. If she was brave enough she might even take a few flowers for the walk home. Silently she promised that it would be few, and the seeds used for her own garden. She knew that they wouldn’t be hard to tend to, but might wait till next season to put them in the ground. Such large flowers were hard to grow once summer god started.

Anu focused on the stranger, giving a soft smile as she spoke. I think it was both she said easily and with a wider grin. Anu found it most intriguing that Alacrity was from such a far off place. She had heard of wolves coming from across the ocean, her good friend Savina was from Italy. But never had she heard of Africa, being quite homely and uneducated in geography. It was hard to keep the questions behind her white teeth. Now, what made you come over here? Africa, exotic accents and no doubt languages and creatures that looked as wild as she did had to have been enough to keep any beast away from a place as plain as this side of the world.
