chaos becomes the child

Zana smiled to herself as she skipped down the beach happily. She had finally learned how to win in the little war with the seagulls and though she now had to bait them with food to come down from the skies she was slowly putting a dent in their numbers. The birds weren't the tastiest thing in the world either, but they were food. The ones she hunted today she would not eat though, instead she'd let their own comrades feast on their flesh. The stupid cannibals. She had set up a little place just over the next sand dune with a few old smelly fish that she knew would cause the gulls to happily cause a stir and come down in masses to fight over the nasty carcasses. She didn't like having to find the smelly old dead fish but she liked when the gulls began to panic when her little darts cut into their numbers.

She sat behind a large old log that had been blown ashore sometime in a storm a long time ago preparing her little darts as her little orbs glared at the sea gulls feasting over on the other side. Her large two toned ears pricked up as she loaded one of the darts and peeked her head over the driftwood. Her eyes danced with excitement as she cackled to herself, knowing that the gulls would ignore her for the most part in their frantic fights for the putrid meat. She quickly brought the shooter to her lips and in an instant the dart had left the weapon and was embedded in the side of one of the gulls. She smiled as the other birds scattered and the one she'd shot slowly began to die. Zana loved to watch the stupid birds as they began to start the suffering process of death. She'd found out which of the poisons were quick and effective and which were slow torture, she liked to save the slow painful deaths for the gulls. Other creatures she tended to use the quick poisons.

........ She had headed for the beach as the day bloomed and offered sun. The youth was in her normal, plain form, and had left everything in the room. She never bothered to attempt to lock it. She wanted nosy creatures to check it out, wanted them to step into her little trap. She had found a fox trap, and had not hesitated bringing it home and setting it ready. However, she had left a stick that would lessen the full damage if the trap snapped after a foot, so there shouldn’t be any injuries. However, if someone stepped into the trap, they would probably think twice before invading her room. The Lykoi girl had no shame. A flock of seagulls exploded into the air, and the girl flicked her ears forward to investigate what had scared a whole flock of the ugly things to take flight. Her crimson eyes quickly found a seagull, seemingly not doing so well, but attempting to fly away with the rest. Interesting.

........ The hybrid padded down to the beach and sensed the other Inferni member before her eyes could find it. It was a girl, crunched down with an item in her hands. The freshly made member padded elegantly down towards her, offering a neutral smile. If that item was what Halo thought it was, perhaps this girl could be of some assistance. The cages back in her room were depressingly empty. When close enough, the Lykoi girl gave a light shout, eager to get on with the mandatory introduction. ”Hey there, I’m Halo, what are you up to?”

Zana had been sitting half hidden behind the driftwood watching with deep seated satisfaction as the gull slowly began on his long road that would only end in death. Her eyes glittered with amusement as she cackled to herself. Her little thoughts of world domination(or, at least the beach) were hastily put aside as she heard the voice of another calling out to her. Ducking down out of instinct it took her a moment to realize it was another clan member, or atleast she thought the girl was. She sortof smelled of the clan but Zana hadn't seen her around before. She gave her another hard look before she finally decided to answer her.

"I'm Zana.." She began to put up her collection of poisoned darts and pebbles as she thought on if she should actually give the woman a real answer to just what she was doing. Giving in and flitting her eyes to the other she admitted the truth. "I was ridding the world of one more stupid seagull. It deserved what it got.." Her words were bitter as she smiled cruelly. She was soon going to have the beach to herself. She'd yet to kill the one legged seagull leader, but soon enough his time would come too.

She glanced back to the other girl as she asked, "What are you doing?" Why was she there anyways. This was Zana's section of the beach.

........ The other girl disappeared out of sight the second Halo’s voice had been carried over, and the youth was well amused, though disappointed in such a reaction. Why hide? Roar and fight with teeth and claws. The other female’s reaction did not interrupt the teenager’s movements, and when the other decided to answer her, there was no longer any need to raise their voices, because the distance had shrunk into something tiny. Zana was her name. It sounded a bit odd, but so did Halo’s own name. It was unique, yet slightly hypocritical if one was to study the dark girl’s personality. Halo had not yet turned nine months, but she was already a dangerous creature, even though first impressions did not hint about this.

........
She was very content with the younger girl’s answer. The coal and copper girl was not a very big fan of seagulls either. Their look, their sound, everything about them was horrible, and she almost wanted to leave the scene immediately so that the other youth could continue her hobby. Or maybe Halo could stay and watch. The latter option was preferable. However, she had not forgotten about the empty cages. The crimson eyed female missed the sounds of small critters lulling her into her sleep. ”I saw what you did with that seagull.” The girl gesticulated with a tilt of her head, her intense red eyes quickly finding the dying creature. ”I need some help. I’m working on a … project, and I need live rats for that, and I figured you could help me, since you obviously are skilled with your shooter.”

........
Halo Lykoi was determined that she would get a positive answer from this girl, or else she would use force. If this odd brat wanted to play along, she decided that she would include her into her little plan. It was nothing big, but Halo had an idea that she wanted to put into life. It would be a delightful experience.

Zana watched the other as she twisted her little peashooter between her fingers. The girl didn't seem to be much older than her but that didn't mean anything to Zana, she looked like she was still about four months out when she was almost to be considered an adult in the clan. She hated that fact about her almost as much as she hated the lack of fur on her tail. That tail covered in ribbons twitched back and forth as the woman finally spoke up.

She raised her eyes to gaze towards the gull that was taking it's final panting gasps before it's life gave out. She smiled grimly at the death of the gull before she turned those orbs back on her new acquaintance. "What sort of project?" She normally didn't attempt to catch creatures and let them live but she knew that her peashooter could pack enough punch to knock a small rodent out for a little bit of time, and if that didn't work she did always have the slingshot as well. She chuckled as she thought about her effective way of catching prey, live or dead. "You want rats?" Zana flicked her ears back, trying to remember if she even know of anywhere near the clan lands where there were rats.

She slipped the peashooter in her leather pouch as she asked. "You knows where rats are?" She really didn't, but she figured if they didn't they could always try and find them.

........ The way the Zana spoke made the youth doubt the age that she had mentally pinned up together with the girl’s name. The girl seemed to function better than a child under half a year. Her apparent skill with the shooter together with a luperci form called for more maturity. Interesting. Zana’s tail had not gone unnoticed either, but the Lykoi girl kept her lips sealed, as she could not point any fingers if she was to befriend this smaller individual. The girl showed interest in her arcane experiment, and the crimson-eyed hybrid a grin that was not entirely pleasant. She gave the younger girl a nod, her rich tail moving elegantly behind her. The other girl seemed positive, but she came up with a very good question that Halo could not immediately answer. Inferni had been her home for less than a week, and the newcomer knew very little about the clan-lands different ‘resources’.

........
An ear flipped backwards in thought. ”No.”, was the dark coyote’s answer. Possibly in the lower levels of the house, maybe closer to the caved area, such rodents should not be too hard to localize. ”Maybe back in the house. Truth be told, I did not check before I left.”. Hallo offered the girl a frown, determining that the two had a small problem. It would be easy to solve, they would just have to track down a nest.

Zana had always ignored the rats when she'd seen them so she couldn't exactly tell the woman exactly where they could be found. The seagulls had always been her enemies while the rats seemed content to ignore her as long as she stayed away from them. It was a nice silent agreement and worked out quite well. She smiled as the other girl began to suggest places where the rats could be. Zana let out a small chuckle of excitement as she grinned. "Then lets go looking?" That was the obvious answer to anything that Halo said.

Zana turned away from log she'd been hiding behind as she readied herself quickly to get going with the older kid. She slid the pouch over her head as she grinned again. "The caves are closer.. but there's really no food there.." The clan was pretty good at picking up their meals and making certain that they weren't a mess, but Zana knew just where the bones were normally thrown if not buried. "There is bone dump.." she suggested as she eyed the girl, waiting to see what she decided.

........ The girl suggested what was obvious and Halo nodded lightly in return, ruby gaze wandering across the calm beach to memorize it. It was rather pretty, if one excluded the noisy birds that were scattered around. The youth took a step towards where she had come from, but turned to look at Zana, as the younger girl seemed to have another idea. Halo’s ears perked with interest when the bone dump was mentioned. It sounded quite interesting, and the Lykoi girl could not wait to see it. The newcomer obviously imagined that the bone dump was full of bones of wolves and other filth. Halo gave yet another nod, and turned to the younger Inferni member to lead the way, as she did not know where the bone dump was. For a moment though, the girl hesitated, remembering the cages. ”Do you have some tape?” she ignorantly asked. She doubted it, but Halo did not want to run all the way back to the house for the cage when there were easier methods available. ”A thin rope works well too.” the girl continued. Yeah, it should not be difficult without a cage.

Zana hadn't expected the other girl to readily agree with her but when she did Zana just stared at her a moment before finally nodding and turning to lead the way to the outskirts of the clan lands where the bone dump rested. She paused a moment though as Halo asked her if she had any tape. She flicked her ears back in confusion as she turned her lilac orbs as she asked. "Tape?" but almost as soon as she'd asked the newest Lykoi of the family asked her about another article she seemed to think was needed to catch the rodents.

Zana just grinned and shook her head as she cackled. "We don't needs that. I catch them.." Of course she didn't think about the fact of what they would put them in or kept them from escaping with but that didn't matter too much. She just liked watching the drunken creatures stagger about and fall flat on their faces from the mild poisons of the darts. She was glad that she'd thought to color code the tips.

Leaping over the log she began to lead the way to the old dump, knowing that soon enough they would be staring at the nesting grounds of all sorts of rodents. She couldn't wait to wreck their little happy world and bring mass chaos to the bone yard. IT was turning out to be a pretty swell day indeed.

........
A nod was given when the other girl questioned a tool, but it seemed she did not understand what the darker girl wanted to use it for. Her words confirmed this, and Halo let a light sigh be released into the soft air. The other girl started to lead the way instantly, and Halo adjusted her pace and followed closely behind, tail lazily dancing. ”You catch them and I'll just carry them in my arms? I’d rather not have some rat wake up and bite off my finger, Zana,” Halo said quietly, her voice reaching for Zana’s ears. Ruby orbs were set on the strange ribbon that dominated the younger girl’s tail. It was prettier to leave the fur rich on the tail (in Halo’s opinion), but perhaps that was some odd sort of fashion around here. The young Lykoi girl took care not to judge the girl harshly, as she had already shown potential to perhaps become a friend in the future.

........
If they just got a handful she could easily start to breed the unpleasant critters, so perhaps she would not even have to shift to carry the live trophies home. Four, five individuals should be enough, but the dark hued girl did not want to risk get a nasty bite. She was too pretty to be marred.

Zana had skittered down the path hastily, knowing that the other girl was following her, but not realizing that there were some holes in her plans. When Halo actually spoke up of these holes Zana stopped dead in her tracks and turned to stare at the girl for a moment. Her eyes trailed forward towards the distant boneyard as she tried to think. Finally it hit her as a smile spread across her lips. "We can get a sack to put them in at my den before entering the boneyard." It was a bit of a distance from the den to the yard but she knew that atleast with a bag that would keep Halo from being eaten alive.

Zana picked up her pace once more and shifted her movements towards the dens, the winding path that lead to the home took then there quickly and Zana darted within the darkened mouth of the cave and returned quickly with one of the sacks that she used to collect things from the shore. Smiling up at Halo she tossed the other girl the bag and chuckled. "Hurry now, or they'll be able to mass.." She knew that if the rats were able to gather that they would be in real trouble, getting to them before they realized what was going on was the only way to go at it.

When they reached the outskirts of the boneyard Zana turned towards Halo and gave her a wicked grin, waiting to see what the woman thought of their creepy hunting grounds.

........
A sack? The Lykoi hybrid hesitated before she nodded eagerly. It could very well work, if not the rodents woke up too soon and gnawed their way through it and escaped. Such a thing would annoy the youth. When the younger girl broke off to run to her den, Halo stopped and waited patiently, not overly interested in seeing the girl’s home. Such a thing would only distract her, and she would not want that. A grin found a home on her face. She was feeling rather good about this, and she was rather content with her first new Inferni acquaintance. It seemed there was more than enough room for a friendship to bloom. Zana had been very helpful from first moment. She liked helpful individuals.

........
Suddenly the bag was thrown in her direction, and she did not quite manage to catch it with her teeth in time, so it hit her face before it found the ground. The Lykoi youth huffed in annoyance, disappointed in her lack of satisfactory reflexes. She bowed down and picked up the sack in her jaws before she hurried after the girl with the odd tail. Perhaps it could have been an idea to shift into her optime form, but she did not really feel like it. Her jaws were strong enough to carry extra weight, and it would be easier to chase after the rodents if they actually did get out of the bag, or.. massed. What was that?

........
Halo had not really seen what the small rodents could do if they gathered and went into a counter attack. Halo had always hunted single critters and so on. The teenager’s thoughts died when they arrived at the prey graveyard. Her ruby eyes widened a little, taking in the rather spectacular sight. Oh, of course! This was amazing. There was more than enough bones to keep her hands full with her other hobby for the rest of her living days (or so the girl assumed). Halo was impressed. ”Whoa.,” the dark hued hybrid let out. Now for the more exciting part. The ruby eyed clan member let the sack drop to the earth. ”Search and destroy..” she mumbled under her breath.

........
The youth turned to look at Zana, which was looking at her back. ”You shoot, I retrieve.” She said brightly, tail wagging behind her. It would make her feel like a proper dog, but it would be effective. She did not need more than around ten, fourteenish.

Zana hadn't really realized in her over excitement that her new found clan mate hadn't managed to catch the bag she'd thrown to her. Instead Zana had only turned and lead the way to the large spread of bones and debris where the rodents called home. She'd never really taken the time to explore this area though she'd watched the rats and other small rodents from a distance and knew what they could do if they felt they were threatened. She just grinned at the idea of catching the creatures by surprise as they stopped at the edge of the boneyard.

When she turned to see what Halo thought she couldn't help grinning again as the other girl seemed to agree on the spot they'd chosen. When Halo gave her orders to shoot while she retrieved Zana nodded seriously before she darted off to find a nice high mark to shoot at the creatures from.

Once she got into place she flicked her shooter up and down once or twice to signal to Halo that she was ready before grinning and loading the small dartgun. She quickly took aim at a rat that had stood at alert to gaze up at her with narrowed eyes. In the blink of an eye she'd fired the dart and the rat squealed in protest at being shot with the small dart before trying to scurry off, the combined natural drugs that the dart had been dipped in quickly took effect as the rat went out like a light. She smiled down at Halo and took to another rat and quickly began to collect groggy nearly comatose rodents along the bones and carcasses as she cackled with glee.

The hybrid let the bag hit the ground and nudged it with her silky muzzle until it was open and ready to devour unconscious rodents. This had overall been a very good idea. The Lykoi girl would enjoy watching Zana in proper action, as she was uncertain if that seagull back at the beach had been a mere lucky shot or not. Ruby eyes followed the shifted form of the slightly younger girl. Halo usually refrained from acknowledging skills in another before evidence was granted. The other girl seemed to know her little odd weapon well, and already before she started Halo believed that she had underestimated the other. The Lykoi girl followed the shifted female when she took of in order to find a nice spot to shoot from. She stayed close behind the other although making sure she was not too close so that there would be any body contact. Copper ears folded backwards in silent expectation and eyes found those moving targets and narrowed in pleasure when they slowly dropped, clearly affected by some kind of crippling poison or something.

Her body moved, tossing her down into the sea of bones. Halo elegantly made her way to the fallen and falling rodents, gently picking them up only to toss them into the open bag. A short glance sought out the girl above her, and the dark youth had no difficulties returning the smile with a rare sincerity. It was quite enjoyable to have a female companion for once. There had always been something missing in her life. Surrounded by masculine males, she had truly missed the company of another of the same gender, although she had been oblivious of this. Now she knew, and she enjoyed the pleasant feeling it gave her. They had gathered a good number of rodents in a matter of minutes. It was quite amazing. Halo had used hours tracking down and catching her previous pets. If she had not been so content with her new friend, she would have been full of envy for the girl’s obvious skill with the little weapon.
