nothing is lost in the end

Today was colder than usual, so Calypso had decided they should go for a stroll to get their blood pumping. Sofia had complained at first, wanting to just sleep the day away, but now she was enjoying herself: the leaves dripping from the trees were delightful fun to chase. Not to mention the satisfying crunch she earned for her effort. Cally, meanwhile, did not actually need any further amusement; he was happy enough watching Sofia live and laugh in this happy world. He knew that this wouldn't last, that it wasn't possible to protect and shelter her forever, but that only made the moment more poignant in it's fleeting nature.

Light gray rain clouds were scattered across the sky, hinting at but not promising a wet day soon. That would be nice; Calypso wouldn't mind taking Sofia splashing through some puddles. She swam like a fish through the creeks in the land, and absolutely adored when they went down to the beach to visit the ocean. He could only imagine how delightfully she'd react to the nice wet stuff falling from the sky; for that reason alone Cal hadn't bothered to explain to her the concept of rain. It would be a nice surprise for her: anything to make her smile.
