Swallow and let it slide

She'd been quite right; the journey up had gone much faster as a race. Using all her speed, she'd stayed ahead almost the whole way and been about to celebrate upon reaching the apex, when a load of snow hit her on the face as Icarus caught up, leaping past and almost crashing into her. "Oi!" came her accusatory cry. She was tempted to fling herself after him into the drifted snow, but erred on the side of decorum for once and just got down to the task of shaking the white powder out of her coat. It didn't last long, as more still was tossed her way when Icarus shook himself. Legacy rolled her eyes at him but couldn't help a grin upon seeing those blue eyes once more, not really caring about what kind of state her fur was in. She accompanied him to the start of the downwards slope, treading carefully so as not to go slipping off the edge. Two snow-flecked puppies gazing down the hill which in their minds was transformed into the perfect slide. The dizzying sensation of the ground dropping away was accentuated by the knowledge that she was going to end up flying down it. She was tempted to try straight away and take him off guard, but wasn't sure what the accepted method of sliding might be. "Okay. You first," she said encouragingly, slanting a daredevil look his way.

indent Icarus was more than happy to take up her offer. Backing up a little from the edge, the youth planned on gaining speed by performing a running start. The most exhilarating part would be when his feet gave way beneath him, and he would begin hurtling down the side of the hill.

indent "Okay, I’m ready." He took a deep breath and puffed out his chest, as if he was really macho for attempting such a stunt. "Here I gooooo!" Icarus took a running start, pumping his legs as fast as they would permit, before he shot over the side and was flying through the air. In that split second while in the air, Icarus could see the shiny gleam of the air – the sine qua non of sliding.

indent "Woahhhh", he called as he finally landed on the icy ground and began gaining speed as he plunged down the hill side. "Yiippeeee!" The pup began spinning in circles – eyes catching sight of Legacy one second, then looking back at the bottom of the hill. Feeling dizzy, the pup came to the bottom of the hill and slid a few yards before he finally came to a stop.

Head swivelling to follow his trajectory through the air, Legacy's lips parted slightly in wonderment: he was going so fast, surely he'd take off when he reached the edge, let alone slide! Hurrying to the edge she watched him hurtling downwards, soaring through the air like a bird before hitting the ice and beginning to spin around. Her head moved in corresponding circles like a cat hypnotised by yarn; she almost felt dizzy by the time he began to slow down.

Well... here went nothing! Hunching up her hindlegs, she tensed every muscle, whooped "Look out!" and gave an almighty push with both back feet. Propelled into the air like a jet, the girl flew over the edge and downwards with all four legs pedalling wildly. She hit the icy snow running and so accidentally toppled herself right over. Ending up on her back with her head facing downhill was when she began to gather speed. Arching her head back as far as it would go, thus gaining a wobbly, upside down view of what lay ahead, her eyes popped - the foot of the slope was approaching at an unbelievable rate. With a mighty squirm she managed to pull her legs beneath her so she was sliding on her stomach, still head-first just as it seemed she could go no faster or further. Squealing she closed her eyes, bracing for the potential impact, not sure she could slide to a standstill gracefully like him - without even her feet beneath her, it felt like she could just hit the ground headfirst. Then she quite abruptly realised she wasn't moving any more, and risked a peek out of one eye, to be greatly relieved - she'd made it in one piece, albeit breathless.

indent When the pup finally came to a stop, his head was spinning from all of the rotating he had down as he plummeted down the icy slope. When Legacy’s voice called out to let him know she was initiating her own descent, he tried to gain his footing, but stumbled back to his rump. He felt as if he was swimming, and it was all that he could do to steady himself and watch as his new friend came sliding down on her back.

indent "Woahh, that was fun!" He called out, now feeling as if the ground below him was a little more stable. He took off running towards the crest of the hill once more, but paused to look back at Legacy. "Haha, I told you it was neat!" She looked as if she had enjoyed it just as much as he had. With a glance towards the sky to keep a check on the time of day, the chocolate colored pup bounded up the hill once more so that he could go sliding down again.
