Broken innocence

The scent belonged to his father. The boy felt his throat thickening, and wondered if he was soon to suffocate. The boy’s copper tail quivered pathetically, yet he did not choose to flee. His ears twisted back towards his skull, trying to block out the horrible screaming. Daddy was not around any longer, but it seemed like he had left something behind. Something that was alive. It screamed. The sound shook with agony, and the boy could do nothing but flinch every time the sound was refreshed by a sharp inhale by the creature. The boy stumbled slightly in his own legs, his fur already imitating a hedgehog’s defensive stance with its needles standing on end. It was horrible, the nightmares were back and very vivid. It was a fox cub. The boy had seen adult foxes from distance, and knew their appearances, although he had never seen such a small member of the kind before.

The boy finally advanced, and forced himself to execute the last feet of distance between the two creatures. He felt slightly sick when more details became apparent. Its tail was broken in multiple places, poking around in many different angles, and it seemed to be bleeding from its mouth. Not even a moment after he discovered several bloody teeth lying scattered in the grass, which had changed colour from green to bright red. He felt sick to his stomach. He felt sick to his soul. A rope was tied around the thing’s neck in order to make sure that the fox would not escape. That meant; his father was not done playing. He would come back. Probably soon. Panic wanted to overwhelm the child. He wanted nothing to do with this, although he quickly realized that he could not turn around and pretend this did not happen.

Quickly, Conor Soul chewed off the rope and moments after he held the young fox in his jaws, his grip careful, yet firm, because the animal was fighting him with whatever remained of teeth. The boy did not feel the pain shooting from his muzzle like needles. No, he could only concentrate on running. Alexey’s house was sanctuary, and he headed towards his new home in an impressive speed. The woman was not home, but some of the fear let go instantly the moment he was inside the building. He quickly trotted towards his room, not yet realizing that when the danger was over, he would not know what to do with the creature.

Sankor had been walking along the edge of the lands studying almost nothing in particular as he realized that it had been a while since he'd seen his sister and changed courses towards her home. He caught the sight of a coppery pelt moving through the trees and a flash of orange moving into Alexey's home and he frowned a moment wondering just what was going on. The mahogany male moved to the steps of Alexey's home and caught the scent of one of the small puppies of the pack. Frowning to himself he wondered just what the kid was up to.

The strong scent of fox filled his nose upon pushing the door to his sister's home open as he frown again, assuming that perhaps the boy had found something to eat and just didn't want to share. He shrugged off the thought and called out. "Alexey? Hello?" Hoping that the small boy wouldn't mind him entering. He hadn't really met the small one yet but knew already who he was, or could guess. There was two bronze and golden boys in the packlands and they belonged to the Lilium. He quickly pushed into the living room and glanced around wondering where the boy had gone off to.

When there was a call from the entrance from the house, Conor almost wet himself in instant fear. It was a masculine voice that immediately announced that the owner of that voice was a man. The boy realized that it was not his father nor any other adult that he knew for certain was mean, but that voice was not recognized. The baby fox weakly twisted in his grasp, exceedingly alarmed by the boy’s own fear. The little creature saw Conor as a dangerous predator, and it was not often that a prey discovered that even the larger animals knew fear. The animal was too weak to do anything much at all now, and Conor took a chance and lowered the injured creature down to the wooden floor. As long as the fox did not leap for the door, it was fine, and at the moment the growing puppy was blocking that exit, and the small creature crawled in the opposite direction. He needed Alexey here so that she could rescue both Conor and the little nameless fox cub.

Although Conor could not see the adult enter, he could hear it. It made his heart leap halfway up his throat before the boy swallowed down again. Lilac eyes shot to the door. He could shut it and barricade himself in front of it. This way whoever was coming could not get into his room instantly. The door was of that kind that swung into the room, and the boy quickly nosed the open ajar, then shut it by pushing with all his strength behind. It made the traditional sound; banging shut, but at least Conor felt slightly safer now. Doors were easily opened, but it was not always that people were in their werewolf forms, and Conor hoped that was not the case now. It was just comforting to have something concrete between him and whoever dared to walk right into lovely Lexey’s house.
