we think we live forever

Broken down cities and urban decay fascinated the boy like nothing else. Streets cracked and broken as nature thrust it's way through, reclaiming the city to be it's own. He found it to be nothing short of awesome, watching the will of the earth as it sought to erase all traces of man and his touch on the land. Pictures could be found of what humanity's great civilization once looked like before their demise, packed with humans and buzzing with life like a giant beehive--people like insects themselves, going about their redundant, useless lives for the greater good and dying without ever realizing their potential. And yet now green and dirt covered all their great marvels as the planet swallowed it all back up and laughed mockingly at how futile their attempts at immortality were. Statues of humans broken and decayed, frozen in time meant for forever, and yet now lay in ruin. Their buildings so high and proud now tumbling and decaying, falling apart even as Jael watched. A murder of crows cawed in the blood-red sunset, laughing at things only they knew.
Would his life be as worthless as these people's, forgotten like he'd never existed once he was dead and gone? Who would remember him if he died today? And even of those who would, who'd remember him in a pleasant light? Immortality could be attained in the memories of those alive, but Jael was nothing. His life was pointless and his existence meaningless. The nihilist extraordinaire, there was only one thing Jael sought in life: simple satisfaction. Happiness and to be content, that was what he wished. Not immortality or anything so great. He just wanted to exist and not to suffer until the end of his time. Stretching across the sun-warmed roof of a car nearly buried in grass and weeds, Jael turned his gaze toward the faux-skyline and the setting sun. The corvids continued their crooning chorus, echoing off the buildings and through the gaping mouths of broken windows, and he watched their flight, wondering briefly if it ever even crossed their mind whether or not their existence was worthless. Probably not.

He shouldn’t be here. It was not fear that kept him closer to the pack lands. He was trying to be careful. The man was careful, his muzzle lifting to take in the summer air ever so often to check out the aromas that swirled around him. The large beast huffed, his disgust for the season in full bloom. Haku Soul’s claws clicked against the pieces of concrete. Give or take a few more decades and the area would again be green and the visible signs of humans would be even more forgotten. Perhaps one day, they would finally cease to exist, even in the memories of the creature they once had hunted. A low rumble caressed his throat and the man was slowly starting to ponder if he was to find a spot where he could crash for a few hours.

The Dahlian man turned around a corner and caught sight of the white male. A white male that looked just a bit too familiar, despite the fact that he knew that he had never laid eyes on the boy before. The ivory male was young, barely an adult at all. The scent of Inferni drifted into his nostrils, but there was something else too. He recognized it, but what was giving off that impression? The man padded forwards towards the individual on top of the car, eyes slightly narrowed. Inferni made his mouth water, but something was wrong. ”Who are you?” the chocolate and brown male demanded, not bothering to go through casualties first. He was way past that.

The sun was steadily sinking, causing shadows to stretch further and further, tendrils of darkness engulfing the world in a dusky blanket. The chorus of crickets filled the evening air, only momentarily overtaken when a broken pane of glass crashed to the ground below, it's precarious position disrupted by a raven settling on the window ledge. The corvid cried out in alarm, taking flight with nearly half its startled companions in a rustling of jet feathers toward the darkening sky. Jael watched their action with mild curiosity, otherwise relatively indifferent to the obscure birds crowding the broken face of the decrepit building. Someone was approaching, their paws nearly silent in the long, insect-ridden grass. A predator, that much was obvious, moving instinctively in a way to mask it's movements. The boy turned his pale head, peering with fiery eyes toward the chocolate-hued creature that was regarding him in a manner less than friendly. Not so much offensive as curious, as though somehow intrigued by the young wolf.
But he was an oddity in their world, smelling like the infamous coyote clan, yet looking like what his bloodline screamed; that being, a wolf. He shifted positions, bettering himself to peer right back at the stranger. Claws scratching at the rusted roof of the automobile he perched atop of as he moved, body turning toward the wolf. "Jael is my name," he answered, cocking his head in a curious manner at this being. "Who are you? As though his name would matter. Jael was simply Jael, and no one had heard of him before, nor did he intentionally attached a family identity to his title. But he was now equally intrigued by this creature, wondering at the manner he had approached him in and the reason behind it. Other than the irony of his situation, Jael saw no reason for anyone to even remotely care or concern themself with him. No one else ever had.

The other man’s eyes were beautiful. This thought somewhat startled Haku, as he rarely found beauty in anything any longer. A lot had been taken from him, the casualties and some of the simple yet precious pleasures of life. These orbs reminded him of fire. Suddenly he felt a stab of hunger, and his jaws parted slightly as if the large secui had something more on his heart. Yet, there came no words. Perhaps the Dahlian was entirely wrong. The young boy’s coat was white. Once upon a time such a thing could have been more uncommon to spot, but the blooming community had allowed unique fur colours. White, black or some other off colour did not degrade the wolf anymore. Almost a shame, because Haku would have been a wonderful tormenter of such scapegoats if the times had been different and less judgemental on an individual’s psyche and humanlike behaviour. It was foolish, all of it.

The hybrid’s name rang no bells. The secui had not expected it to anyways. ”Haku,” the brown male replied with his emotionless voice. ”Why do you smell of Inferni when it is obvious that you are mostly wolf.” the mentioning of mixed heritage was a guess. The teenager looked all wolf, and Haku would automatically have treated him as such if it had not been for the clan’s trademark. The cocoa man did not understand himself much more than he understood others. Usually he did not give a damn about other creatures unless there was an importance somewhere, and there was nothing interesting about this male. Yet, curiosity had made its appearance the moment the Dahlian man had detected his scent. It had to mean something.

Intrigued the boy remained by this curious man, wondering as to what had caused his initial interest in the pale creature. Hunger struck his eyes when the youth dared glance toward them, a shade of brilliant blue broken by the strange desire that filled them. He may have feared this bizarre sight, had thoughts of death entered his mind. But Jael was apathetic, allowing whatever will happen to happen--though that wouldn't prevent him from trying to take down the other man with him if it came to it. His voice rang out, bringing with it a name obviously unfamiliar to the wolf and a question that would steadily become more and more commonplace as long as he remained with the coyote clan.
"I have family with Inferni. It's the only family I know of that lives," Jael replied softly, still eyeing the chocolate wolf as he eyed him back. His wolfen family remained unknown, if even his mother lived any longer or if she had any relations in the world. He'd been young the last time he'd laid eyes on his snowy dame, and had yet to hear even a whisper of her existence since they'd parted ways.

It had to be wrong. There was something more than this. Haku was far from satisfied by the boy’s answer, despite the fact that it had been honest and answered the question well enough. Haku did not know what he was digging after exactly, and it bothered him quite a bit because it felt like he was no longer in control. ”A De le Poer or a Lykoi then, I assume..” the man said dryly, quite certain of this. De le Poer had once been a pure wolf line, but had mixed in with the Lykoi and strayed true to the unholy crossover ever since. Lykoi seemed to be part of most of the mixed Inferni members anyway. This was not why the boy was strangely familiar in a disturbing way. He reminded Haku of something or someone that he had left behind in the past. A closed chapter, at least in his mind. Jael had gone back and reopened that chapter. Suddenly, Haku felt slightly less confused. The long scar across his chest seemed to ache dully, despite the fact that it was more than a year old. ”Your coat reminds me of my mother's.” the male suddenly stated, almost surprised at his own words. As soon as the words were spoken, he realized that this was actually true. It was the flawless coat of his worthless mother, the woman that had tried to kill him before he could do any more harm to those she loved. She had failed at that task, then disappeared.

Dead on, Jael's bloodline was of both Lykoi and De le Poer--even if he didn't announce such when asked his title. Though his sire had lied to him and deceived him about so much, the boy did realize more and more that his family did exist in these parts and that he did share ties to many relevant, even living creatures. But Vitium was a traitor to his blood and clan and had been denounced from those ties. The boy was lucky to be allowed to stand here when his father should have been dead years ago for his actions. But he was, and probably always would be curious as to what had caused Vitium to defend a wolf to the point of being exiled, when he preached blind hatred of their kind and attempted to turn his own wolfish offspring against their own species.
Haku's next words probably surprised Jael as much as it did himself, and his eyes narrowed faintly at the thought--unlikely possibilities brought to life within his mind. They were pushed aside for logical reason, knowing how many white wolves probably walked the world. Though looking at the intertwined ties that already made up the bloodlines in this place, he could wonder if somehow they were even vaguely related."My own mother as well," Jael replied with a faint smirk, remembering the pale she-wolf as he spoke of her. "My mother's name was Colibri Soul. I haven't seen her since I was a small child, though." How ironic would it be if these two complete strangers shared a mother? Jael found himself amused at the very thought.

There was no reply back about the boy’s tie to Inferni and its dominating families, but that was quickly forgotten when the youth continued with his mother. It was only natural for a child to inherit some looks from parents, but the secui did absolutely not like the direction this was going. When the Inferni member spoke both Haku’s and his mother’s name, the pure wolf snapped his jaws together with a sharp crack. For a moment he felt a rage building far too quickly inside his chest. How dared she step into his life again? Haku had been positive he had gotten rid of the female once and for all. He had pushed her out of the pack she had made and loved (he did not know that the woman would only have been there temporary nevertheless because of her failing nerves) and made her leave her kin and home behind. No, she was not done with bugging her youngest son. Oh, wait, he was not anymore it seemed if Jael’s words were to be believed. Haku knew it was the truth. The appearance, the scent, everything matched.

The rage suddenly transformed into amusement, and the secui could not hold his laughter back. Poor Colibri Soul. Could it have been a rape? Haku very well knew that Acid, Colibri’s first mate had been a hybrid, but he also knew that she had slowly developed a dislike for coyotes because of the infamous clan along with the de le Poer, because that family line had brought her a lot of misery. Now she had bred with one of them? The thought was hilarious. ”Oh, so she got herself involved with a coyote this time?” the Dahlian wolf asked, suddenly serious but with a touch of mock in his blue eyes. ”Is she here?” he then asked, determined to know as much as she could. After this he could ponder if it would be worth it to fuck Mew up with some well late news about their ivory, fail mother.

Jael was confused to see something akin to rage building in the brown wolf's features at the mention of his mother's name. So, this wolf obviously knew of the pale she-wolf, and even further, probably was even birthed by her, as he'd already guessed. Then, the stranger began to laugh. The boy regarded him quietly, no expression showing on the face that so resembled Colibri Soul's. "In a manner of speaking," he said quietly, watching the stranger with his sun-colored eyes. He was suspicious already of this being and his motives. If he was reading him correctly, he may even be pleased to hear she was dead or otherwise destroyed, if even simply mentally, and that disgusted Jael. He didn't wish to impart the fact she had been raped, as that would probably please him.
She didn't deserve this--not from her own son. Even if she'd wronged him in some way and his hatred somehow felt justified, she was and always would be his mother, just as she was for Jael. But the pale boy couldn't help but wonder what had transpired between the chocolate male and their snowy mother. It reminded him of Vitium and how he'd hated Colibri simply because she was a wolf, stating his actions against her were right, and that brought the burn of bile to the back of his throat. "I don't know," he said, for as he'd already stated, he hadn't seen her since he was only a few months old. If she was even still alive. "You don't like her, do you?" Jael finally asked, watching the male to read his reaction. "May I ask why?"

Colibri Soul deserved everything she had been given and more. There was a hatred for the ivory female that Haku himself did not understand. It was there, present and burning brightly whenever her name was mentioned. Perhaps it was because she had posed such a threat and almost succeeded in extinguished him from the face of the earth. She knew better than anyone what was wrong with her son, and therefore she was a constant threat. It did not help that she had left them all at a very young age. Now she had another litter which she again obviously had failed to raise. The boy’s scent told the story well enough. The boy’s answer almost disappointed the larger man, yet he was glad to know that he would not have to deal with the woman again too soon. This boy had inherited many of her features, and he wondered if Gabriel too had been able to guess that Colibri was the boy’s mother. Would he really allow the half-siblings of his enemy roam around freely with Inferni tags? The demon found that strange, although it really was not.

I don’t, and no you may not ask why.” the Dahlian male answered darkly. It was between his mother and himself, no one else. The youth did not seem to hold much aggravation towards their dame, though his choice of joining Inferni suggested otherwise. ”You know it would have broken our mother’s heart if she knew that you live in Inferni?” The brownish male added, seeking to explore exactly how much the kid new about his ivory parent.

Whatever had transpired between Haku and Colibri was obviously a closely guarded secret, and the only reason Jael was interested was that it obviously involved his mother just as much as Haku's. Colibri had birthed the both of them and her parentage belonged to each of them equally, her blood running through their veins as brothers. But the stranger wouldn't divulge and so Jael did not pry, curiosity quelled by growing annoyance at this creature. "A pity then," he replied just as coolly as Haku had, expression growing colder as their interaction progressed. "But if you're the extend of what the other side of my family has to offer, then obviously I'm not missing very much," Jael continued, faintest smirk lightly dusting his features for just a second. Fangs bared slightly with the expression, fiery eyes filling with flame.
From what he'd seen thus far of Haku, Jael was far from impressed and would choose the coyotes over him any day in an instant. So far he had a fairly bad impression of his wolfen relatives and he found himself wondering dryly if Vitium's words had rung with some truth to them about wolves in general. Maybe they all were inherently a bunch of ruthless bastards that deserved to die. The thought brought a bad taste to his mouth and he forcefully repelled the nausea that threatened to overwhelm his senses. This creature was cocky and arrogant, and already he felt he didn't like him. Was this caused by his mother, or was it of Haku's own doing, by nature or environment in general? Had he really been saved from the snowy she-wolf by Vitium, leaving her deserving everything she received from him?
If so, he felt his faith in the world diminishing ever so slightly, like a flame flickering out without proper life to sustain it. He couldn't love or trust neither his mother or father, or look to any of his siblings. Fate played a cruel trick on the boy with his blood, leaving him with only broken pieces to mend together and pretend were his rightful family. Not everyone was granted the sanctity of a family, Jael was already aware, and he, apparently, was personally one of them. Maybe he just didn't belong anywhere, always the outsider to wolves and coyotes alike, and now even to those he shared ties of blood with.

300 I fail hi

The boy offered the man an insult, and Haku could only laugh at those words. The boy thought he knew him? What he was? All this merely because it was clear that Haku did not love his mother dearly. Once upon a time he had loved the snow kissed woman endlessly and unconditionally, but then the taint had sprung out with its dark flowers and revealed to him that it had all been her fault. It was a pity though, if that was how the boy saw it. Haku was not at all aware of the young boy’s conflicted and confused mind. Colibri Soul had did her best to create love in her home and cherish her family, but had fallen hard and brutally when everything shattered like glass. Maybe there was truth in the youth’s words. Haku never tried to analyze himself. He just went along with that tempting current and followed the voices in his head. He was beyond any rescue, but there were other individuals related to both of the present brutes that could turn the Inferni member’s opinion around.

”Maybe not, though, since not even our mother wanted you then I think Inferni would have been the only solution anyway.” The chocolate secui fell silent for a moment, wondering if Gabriel was aware of this magnificent irony. The rude boy was related to both Gabe and himself, and so he found it rather amusing. Not that family ties should matter much anyway, but Gabriel truly longed for Haku’s death. Did the Inferni leader’s hatred stretch out towards the rest of Haku’s family as well? Because Haku was what he was; he hoped so. What would Mew think of this individual? Family actually seemed to mean a damn to her, but her hatred for Inferni was far from invisible. If Colibri Soul was nowhere to be found within these lands, then that should be it, really. He did not want to know this half sibling, and by now he doubted the other would freely give away more information about himself and if there were more.

It was more than simply Haku's attitude toward their mother that turned him against him—it was the general way he presented himself. He seemed arrogant to Jael, rubbing him in just the wrong way. There was something he couldn't place about the male that lifted his hackles and chilled his tone. He obviously couldn't judge whether or not he honestly had reason to hate their mother, because he never really knew her. Maybe she was a bitch and a whore and deserved to die, or maybe she was the gentlest, kindest soul on the planet. "Lovely," the boy began in a falsetto, smiling lightly as he rose from where he'd been laying atop the car's rusted, gutted shell. "I guess I'll just take my unwanted ass back to Inferni then now, huh?" Sarcasm and irritation laced his words and attitude. Rather than play nice and pry the male further for questions he was overcome by the desire to simply walk away, not caring at all about his own half-brother.
Just as he had shunned his sire as family, it seemed he'd shun his wolfen brethren as well. It was fate being a hybrid, having to pick a side and being unable to simply dwell complacently in both worlds when so much hatred breathed around them. And fate seemed to be pointing him in the direction of the coyotes despite his snowy coat and lupine build. Leaping to the ground below, claws clicking against a patch of exposed pavement, he regarded the chocolate male again with fiery eyes. "Why should you care what breaks her heart anyway? I thought you didn't like her," Jael added quietly, fangs bared again in a dark expression.

500 Sorry for the wait.

There were large amounts of times where the chocolate secui did not bother to put on that mask unless it was necessary and this was such a moment. The youth did right in judging Haku, despite the amount of evidence needed to do so. Although it could easily have been different, that Haku had been somewhat alright despite his hatred for the woman that had given birth to him, it was not. The taint and rot went right through him. Family meant nothing. Inferni members meant nothing. Perhaps it also was true that Haku had decided to make himself a new acquaintance and get on bad terms with it just because that canine had her as his dame. Was it that everything he properly and concretely despised had a touch, marks or connections to Colibri Soul? The unhidden distaste from the other served as entertainment and amusement for the older male. Jael was another part of a failed project. Colibri Soul seemed to try again and again to create a family and love her children, but she never seemed to be able to accomplish just that. Neither did Haku for that sake, but that was far from a passion of his. Besides the fact that his two sons strengthened the numbers, and soon enough: strength of Dahlia de Mai, the secui did not wish to have anything to do with them. It was a harsh view, but Haku was not your ordinary family guy.

As if the irritation and sarcasm did not exist in the young hybrid’s voice, Haku nodded in a seemingly serious manner. This bastard kid could drag his unwanted ass back to the clan and keep it there for all that Haku cared. A flicker of flame from within suggested that a new Inferni and Dahlia conflict could have been ideal for extermination of Colibri’s new litter, whether it was only this boy or perhaps more. This slightly surprised Haku. This was something else than indifference. Perhaps, under all the thick and poisonous layers of hate and resentment, there was jealousy? That it now was a fact that his mother had made new children to love. The man himself was not able to distinguish such a feeling, but he wondered exactly why he felt as he did. Jael’s feelings could be understood because Haku was so to speak trash talking their mother, but he had expected a more neutral mind from himself. Now when it had been discovered, however, that was fine and accepted. Haku knew his damaged vessel well. ’Why should you care what breaks her heart anyway? I thought you didn’t like her’ The wolf’s lips twitched slightly, finding the challenge a bit off because the answer was right there in that question. The opposite of love was indifference. Love and hate, however, were much closer connected. Haku could easily care because he wanted to see her in pain, both mentally and physically.

That, is exactly the reason why I would care. I’d love to watch her whole world fall into ruins a third time.” That was a disgusting thing to wish for, but then again this was Haku, and his words could not be truer. He refrained from returning the gesture of bared fangs. Although Jael was larger than the average coyote, Haku had more experience and the advantage of the secui form well ready for use. He doubted it would come to that: doubted the boy would be so foolish. This conversation had given birth to dislike between the two half-brothers, but probably not enough to introduce blood. The chocolate male lowered his neck slightly as he kept that blue gaze steady against the fiery red. ”Off you go, baby brother.”

The curiosity about the woman whom his mother truly was did grow from his conversation with Haku. Obviously, he’d previously wondered what Colibri Soul was like and how she lived her life, but seeing the hatred expressed from her own son, his half-brother by blood, he could only wonder even further. His sire was rejected as blood, but would he be forced by personal choice to shun his own mother as well? Was none of his family worth mentioning or caring about? He’d tried to find someone, anyone to feel close to, but he’d failed miserably. His siblings could care less what happened to him and anyone else he could care less about himself. This was his brother, and he no longer cared. Haku simply wished his mother misery and agony and stated as much as Jael turned to walk away. Haku cared about their mother’s fate because she obviously meant a lot to him, even if he no longer believed in her.
He may have even loved her at one point, but now that love was twisted and decayed, perhaps through some betrayal. You cannot honestly and truly hate someone you don’t know, Jael believed, proving to himself Haku was well associated with the woman. He snorted softly, rolling his eyes at his half-brother. He was through with this conversation—there was nothing more to be said from the white wolf’s lips. “Bye-bye, big brother,” he crooned mockingly, looking one last time on the sienna creature before taking off at a steady lope. He quickly vanished around the side of a building, moving up the alleyway and disappearing from sight.
