It wasn't fair. Well, actually, it was perfectly fair - he just wasn't enjoying it. Time after time he would find prey, and he would soundlessly track it, trace its steps or flight pattern. And time after time, he would lose it. Why, he had no idea; he was not giving himself away, he was not acting too soon or being hasty; as far as he was concerned, he was doing everything just perfect. Nonetheless, it was as though all of the ravens, rabbits and squirrels in the area were just far too determined to evade him. It was frustrating, but he would not let it show; he made sure that his eyes were still focused on whatever game appeared, and when he lost it, he made no quarrel. Although he would occasionally let out a frustrated growl, nothing more would show of his irritation.

At his age, the boy was becoming large. His frame was heightening, becoming lanky and slowly filling out; muscle was beginning to form on his limbs. His coat, light and warm in colour, was darkening; within the cinnamon, layers of black were spreading. His pelt was becoming dull, and would eventually become the darker, richer hue that it would remain.

"I see you..." A rabbit poked its head out of its hole, beady eyes searching the snow. The small being crept out, imprints left behind, and darted away with energy it did not seem to previously possess, judging by its groggy, hesitant start. The boy considered following it, but did not; it wasn't worth the effort.

The sun was disappearing for the night, and the moon — a crescent, with sharp edges and a soft curve — was already glowing dimly in the opposing region of the sky. Stars were becoming visible one by one, the varied colours twinkling against the blackening canvas. The sounds of dusk could be heard; the movement and voice of the nocturnal, the faint swish of water, the whispers of the wind. Crimson was quickly bleeding out of the sky, leaving behind the solid black the moon was waiting for; without the colourful remnants of the protesting sun as it set, everything was illuminated in ghostly silver.

Briefly, the brute had considered returning to the Tangle. The thought was rejected, however, as he noted how much he enjoyed wandering through the Silver Valleys. Even during the day, the valleys were peaceful and attractive; at night, though, they were even more so. Sparking rivers, roaring waterfalls and sweeping valleys twisted along without any real form of repetition, making it nearly impossible to know exactly what to expect or to become bored of the massive territory.

A silent stream branched off from a large river, glistening in the starlight. The fiery male walked along its edge, turquoise eyes studying his surroundings. His rich pelt danced mauve and scarlet against the water's silver and blue reflection.

The day had come and gone in the blink of an eye. And it was not just because of the shortening days as the result of winter's rapid approach, either; it seemed that, although the day had been far from eventful, time had flown by. As he had watched the sun rise that morning, he had thought the day would creep by — as was usual. He had become used to being bored during the days; nothing important ever happened. Yet, although it seemed as though no time had passed since he watched the sun rise, he was watching it fall. It was the same, just in reverse; streamers of pink and orange stretched across the sky until it was glowing crimson, then the vibrancy drained to be replaced with blackness and the dim twinkling of stars. The noon was not quite full, illuminating the night with silver rays.

In the darkness, Relic's otherwise fiery pelt was highlighted in silvers and greys. He glanced at the moon, eyes still glowing the piercing turquoise that they always did, before continuing toward the falls.

He had no specific reason for visiting the waterfalls; he didn't even realise that he was headed toward that area until he could hear the sound of the crashing waters ahead. At night, the waters were even more glorious than otherwise. The glassy surface mirrored the night sky, the precision impeccable around the edges, where the water was still. The brute ran a claw along the faux mirror, watched the chain reaction of rippled without interest. The falls themselves seemed to glow silver, the water's spray free-flowing mercury.

Although he did not plan on going anywhere else, he did not sit down; he did not yet feel like resting. He was not tired, despite it being dark — rather, he still had quite a bit of energy to spare.
