The young boy blinked water out of his eyes. He couldn't tell the time of day because the sun was blocked off by darkened rain clouds. That didn't bother him very much, except for the fact that he was getting tired and wanted to sleep. However, he did not want to waste the day and was determined to sleep only during the night. In the gloom of the storm, he couldn't tell the time, but he had a feeling that it was too early to find a place to rest. Coupled with the fact that he had no idea where he was, Mason decided that he would continue on. It only made sense to do that, at least he found some shelter.

Mason was built well, a little big for his age. The trunk of his body was thick like a wolf's, but his sandy colored pelt and thin snout left no doubt as to the other half of his heritage. His coin-yellow eyes flashed in the dark as he tried to decipher where exactly he was heading. He stopped for a moment and put his black nose to the ground. It was hard to smell much of anything, aside from the water, but the hybrid child pushed himself as he tried to identify anything that would give him some indication about his whereabouts.

His eyes widened as he recognized something somewhat familiar. He could tell now, that there were others about. The prospect excited him and made him nervous. He sat stalk still on the ground, and wondered if someone was close, wondered if someone or something would find him.

Zana had been out roaming the underbrush and looking for more snakes, though she knew she had little chance of finding them today with the overcast skies and thread of rain every few moments. The rumble overhead had caused the woman to crawl from under the branches of the thorn bush and peer about to see if there was better cover for when all hell broke lose. Instead of finding cover she caught sight of a small body, not much smaller than her and she couldn't help as her ears pinned back in confusion. She didn't know of any more puppies that the pack had taken in and so the smallest member of Inferni took the time out of her busy day to investigate this new strange being.

Scampering through the brush on hands and feet Zana came up through the brush a few feet away from the small boy and presented herself. "Hey you, what are you doing here.." She asked as she narrowed her beady little thistle orbs and watched him, waiting for some answer that would tell her if he was worth keeping around or if she should feed him to rats that Halo had collected. She bet that Halo would find it interesting to watch.. but before she let her thoughts get carried away with her she eyed the boy and frowned, waiting for an answer.

The young boy scanned the darkness, looking for any sign of life. Despite the darkness and the splattering sound of the rain drops hitting the ground, he was not afraid. In fact, very little scared the boy. Even the looming darkness overhead and all around him did nothing to hamper his mood. If anything, he was somewhat bored. The weather was monotonous and a little annoying. The pup did not mind being a little wet, but at this point he was soaking. It wasn't the most pleasant thing in the world.

Mason came to his feet when a woman appeared from the brush nearby. As she approached, he looked past her, toward the brush. Would others appear from there? It seemed strange to crawl beneath the brush. The woman was small, but definitely bigger and older than he was. He could tell because she was shifted. He was still too young to do that.

He blinked bright yellow eyes as the woman came in front of him. Mason was on his feet now, and he gazed up at her somberly, considering her words over the rain. "Cames to find others," Mason said. She didn't seem as excited to see him as he was to see her. Despite her demeanor, the pup was happy to have found someone else. "Was looking. Found you!" the boy said, feeling triumphant, his little tail wagging slightly.

Little Zana couldn't help as her ears flicked back in annoyance at the happy child. She wasn't use to others being wanting to be close or even happy but after a moment she was able to control her disgust and oddly enough it turned into a bit of curiosity. She narrowed her eyes slightly as she studied the small boy, knowing that he would probably need to be taken to one of the leaders and disposed of properly. She did not need another mouth to feed and she knew the silly overexcited boy would not be able to climb into her home, besides she doubted the leaders would saddle her with the whelp anyways, she barely stood over him now.

She frowned as his tail began to wave a mile a minute, not knowing what exactly she should do next, hardly able to remember her own day of joining the clan. She scratched behind her ear and after a moment shook her head. "You're crazy kid." she said as she began to pick at the ribbon in her tail, slowly turning to eye the boy as she remarked rather haughty. "You did not find me, I found you." For once getting to play the superior creature, even if it was only over a child.

She finally picked out a bit of unraveling thread from the ribbon before she finally decided to ask a question. "Where is your mother? Why looking for others, you have family, no?" The little lady didn't care if she made the puppy cry or not, if she brought up unhappy memories and turned the pup into a pitiful whining and moaning annoyance. If that happened she'd just whack him over the head with a rock and drag him back to Gabriel, claiming no knowledge of what happened. She'd been forced to grow a backbone, she could practice tough love on others too.. or no love, either one worked well for her.

The sandy-toned youth looked up at the red woman expectantly. He hadn't really known who or what he would encounter. Mason decided that he liked this woman. She was about his height, but she acted older. He could relate to someone small like he was. He hoped he wouldn't be small forever though. Although being small was good for some things, he looked forward to getting big. Then maybe he would be able to do new things or at least get places faster.

Mason chose to ignore the woman's tone of voice. He was still glad that she had materialized out of the darkness of the storm. His brow furrowed and he narrowed his coin-colored eyes a little as he tried to figure out how to best deal with this woman. Maybe she was just cranky because she did not like to be wet. She couldn't be annoyed at him. She didn't even know him yet! "I's crazy glad that I found you," the boy said with a thin lipped smile.

Mason shrugged his shoulders at her question. "Looked for mama. Not find her," he said. "Found you instead," he added for good measure. At this point he got up and padded over to her to look interestedly at the bright colored wrapping on her tail. He had never seen anything like that before! "You's pretty," the pup conceded as he scrutinized the colored ribbon. "I like you," the pup announced.

Zana didn't know why but the small boy that seemed so suddenly interested in her put her hair on end. When he crawled closer she backed away and whined slightly, not wanting the boy to come any closer. She'd never really been a lovey-dovey type and she had a funny feeling that the boy was about to do something that she wouldn't like. She stepped another step away as she frowned at his words. "Well I don't think I'm so glad you've found me.." she muttered as she spied a small tree a few yards away. She wanted to be as far away from the boy as she could get right now and she thought perhaps the tree could afford her just that, as well as give her the ability to keep an eye on him.

Pouncing to her feet she dashed the short distance, wanting to leave behind his remarks on her prettiness and his liking of her. Quickly scurrying up the small stunned tree she glanced down at the child for a second before a shudder danced down her spine. She shook her pelt out before howling at the top of her lungs. "GABRIEL! RYAN!" Zana scurried along the length of the branch as she glared down at the pup. "Don't you move! You stays right there!" She really really wanted the little pip-squeak gone from her sight and she knew the best way to do that was to get the boss.

The sandy-furred pup blinked his bright yellow eyes, surprised that the woman had decided to run away. He did not think he was particularly terrifying. And he did not think he had done anything wrong. He flicked his ears back and cocked his head to the side as he considered her from her perch in the tree. She seemed upset, and he did not have the slightest clue as to why. Shrugging his small shoulders, he clamped his mouth shut. He did not think talking to her would help.

The pup turned around and faced away form her. Maybe she would feel comfortable enough to climb down if he was not watching her. He had no idea what he had done or said to scare her off, but he did not feel very sorry about it. He really did not think he had done anything wrong. She had called out two names, and they were not names that Mason had recognized. The boy wondered if these two creatures would come.

Was everyone around here weird? Mason had had very little contact with others, the red woman being the first creature he had seen in nearly a week. He only hoped that someone else would come around and be willing to talk to him. Sighing, the pup stood shivering in the rain and waited patiently for someone to come.
