The young man Ehno had yet to meet was the first to speak up after the news. Ehno wondered for a moment if newer member had known Naniko at all, but the question drifted away as his words sunk in. Ehno found himself nodding in agreement, but he chose to remain silent. He couldn’t seem to find the words to express his thoughts; his mind reeled as the gravity of the situation hit him once more. No one else seemed to know how to react at first either, as silence continued to reign while a few of the gathered shuffled around.

The relative quiet of the meeting was suddenly shattered as Brooklyn let forth an angry torrent of words. He wanted to yell right back at her, to tell her that what the two ladies spoke of was true. The man had seen it for himself, seen that blank, hollow mask that Naniko chose to wear when her tears had stopped. She wasn’t the same anymore; those drugs truly had changed her. Ehno couldn’t believe it either, until he had chased her into the city and seen what she had become. It was for this reason that the Chief Sergeant remained silent. Brooklyn’s denial was understandable, and he knew the only way she would realize the truth of this situation was if it was staring her in the face. He looked away as she stomped off, sorrow and anger mixing in his chest. It was heartbreaking to see what their ex-leader’s choices had done to her family and friends, and yet part of Ehno was angry that Naniko had let this happen. He sighed as he realized that his anger was futile. It would never change what had happened.

Their massive warrior Jazper took the time to speak next, offering his insight to this situation and a request to seek out the D’Angelo lady. A small part of him wanted to inform the young man that she had taken refuge in the city, but the wear from his long travels seemed to overcome him and he remained silent. It seemed obvious to him now that Nani’s choice of shelter would be the city and he was sure Jazz would determine that as well. Suddenly he worried that leaving her alone in the city hadn’t been a smart decision. The temptation of those drugs would be strongest there, especially when she was so alone and vulnerable. But he knew that she needed time alone to come to grips with all that had happened. To tell Jazper of her location would only disturb the solitude she needed. There was nothing he could do, should the black-furred male find their ex-commander on his own, but Ehno would not be the one to send the pack after her.

The weariness continued to creep steadily over him as the two leaders took a moment to express that Naniko was still a part of this family. The meeting seemed to be over and the Italian man could no longer fight the tired ache of his muscles or the threat of sleep clawing at the edge of his consciousness. “It’s her choice now what path she will take,” he muttered. He stood and took a step toward the manor, pausing to look at Savina and Anu. His amber eyes locked with each of theirs briefly, expressing what he could not find the words to say—that he was behind them one-hundred percent on this and he was confident that they would lead the pack well. Then he nodded a silent goodbye to each of them and made his way up the porch steps to pass them. He placed a comforting hand on his sister’s shoulder before continuing into the mansion, letting her know that he would always be there to listen if she needed someone to talk to.

388 words, and exit Ares!

As if his words had broken some kind of freezing spell, people began to move after he spoke. A child - one of Savina's - clambered closer to her mother. Flayra, quietly, had come closer to his side, and he interpreted it as support for his words, which he appreciated. He wasn't saying anything that he really believed anyone would disagree with, but there were a lot of wolves he didn't know here as well as a lot of wolves whose respect he wanted to earn and keep. He felt very twisty inside, then, when a white female he judged to be slightly older than his own age, growled and turned upon him. Some small part of his brain knew with absolutely certainty that she would attack him, beat him into the ground for the words she disagreed with, chastising him publicly. But instead, she lashed out at him with only words. Sheep? For not questioning? From her anger, he had expected a lot worse to be thrown his way. And as he found out shortly, she was the unknown Naniko's daughter. Well, that made sense, and Ares cut her some slack, trying not to take her words personally.

She shouted a lot of stuff, but Ares really couldn't understand the basis of most of it - what it boiled down to was the fact that Naniko was a stranger. And she did, to be blunt, mean nothing to him. And then the angry girl was gone, and the rest of the wolves reacted to her outburst. Jazper slunk close to him, and with a shoulder pat, echoed the words Ares himself had just been considering - "don't take it personally." He nodded his thanks to the older male, glancing up at him appreciatively. Jaz spoke to to Savina then, and she replied, adding that the meeting was now over. One of the male strangers departed, and Ares decided to do so as well, letting the others speak a few more words. He didn't really belong here; the knowledge of the situation had been imparted to him, but he was too passive, too un-invested in what had happened. He could neither rage at the injustice that had occurred nor offer words of comfort to those most effected; he simply did not have any reason to stay there any longer.
