Anselm huffed as the wolf limped away, his gait slowing to a lazy, almost disinterested walk. He visibly grew alert and hastened his steps, however, when a smaller, quite young boy he couldn't identify bolted past to partake in the festivities. He winced as the wolf sought to alleviate his frustration by going for the easiest target: Coward. Fortunately, Kaena was on the trespasser in a heartbeat, and here he got to experience a good dose of that maternal fury only women could cook up. Though the boy did not necessarily look like one of her blood children, he had caught the woman's scent sticking steadfast to his coat as he'd run past. Given Ryan (who was absent, he thought with a frown) already had Valkyrie (also missing), and Kaena was obviously experienced in raising children, it seemed logical to assume that she'd taken him under her wing.

Now that Mason was "secure," it seemed like their fun could begin again--well, perhaps not. Two of their younger clan mates seemingly materialised out of nowhere and put an end to Bastardo's vandalism once and for all: one was a wolfish looking girl he knew by scent but not by feature, and the second Ezekiel. Gabriel approached the fallen wolf and Anselm found his paws carrying him closer as well--though he didn't realise it, his dark-tipped tail was swaying quite merrily behind him. They had vanquished their enemy; they had made their stance on such insolence clear. The Caelum felt a strong sense of unity with the rest of the clan just then, as well as a general feeling of contentment and inner tranquillity. The wolf had had him reeling for weeks now, and though he was all too eager to obsessively patrol their borders in search of the elusive bastard, he was glad to have this case closed.

Gabriel addressed their newest Hydra, and Anselm simply looked on. Catching the Aquila's eye he offered a triumphant grin that could perhaps be described more appropriately as a smirk. With that and not a single word, he offered a bow of his head before grabbing the still warm carcass by one limb with his teeth and beginning to haul it away. Their chase had brought them well into their territory, but this guy had to be strung up on the border. Once he found somewhere appropriate, he would shift and make the extra effort to find a bigger, thicker branch than most of the other skulls rested upon and drive it into the ground--this one was personal, and it was as much a trophy for the clan as it was a reminder to those that dared to cross Inferni.

Mason was far from paralyzed from fear, but shock immobilized him for a crystalline moment. Then suddenly, Kaena was thundering toward the pair with vengeance written all over her scarred features. The Inferni Tirones Minor was not in the jaws of the intruder for long. Kaena's wicked sharp teeth exacted vengeance on Mason's attacker. The boy recovered and moved out of the way, knowing for now that he was useless.

He let out a frustrated grumble, his coin-bright eyes alight with indignation and embarrassment. When he had taken off after the intruder, his blood had sung with the need to rend his flesh, to punish him for having the audacity to trespass and insult the clan. He had wanted to participate, but his size and inexperience had put him at a strict disadvantage. His wide yellow eyes took in the sight before him now. Only a few feet away, Kaena, beautiful in her fury, held the intruder's throat exposed. In the space of a few breaths, a girl he did not recognize viciously finished the trespasser. His life ended in a fountain of blood that stained the girls muzzle, her fury plain on her features.

Gabriel pronounced the girl who had made the kill, Halo, a warrior within the pack. He smiled, his frown melting from his features. She had made the kill, and fairly so. And then Mason turned to regard the clan's leader. He felt a little embarrassed, but he spoke earnestly. "I'll practice. I'll do better next time." It was true, that he was the smallest one here. But time was on his side. With time he would grow, both in body and in experience. He would practice, and next time he would make a better showing.

Hooray!

The fury that Kaena had felt upon the nameless stranger's affront on the youngest member of the clan had surprised even her. It was a wild swing from the woman who had spurned and even despised children in her youth, considering her firstborn litter a burden in the extreme. Gradually, with each passed litter, she had grown progressively fonder of children, having soundly experienced the joys of raising them thirteen times over. The hybrid woman stood, her back to the Tirones Minor and her gleaming golden eye watching as the rest of the coyotes swarmed over him, quickly finishing the job that Anselm had started. The hybrid almost missed who made the final stroke, but it was undeniable as Halo drew away from the corpse, blood ringing her mouth in imperfect, splashed crimson lipstick. The hybrid smirked over at the younger coyote, her sallow teeth showing pride in her kin.

There was no doubt now that the wolf was dead; he lay sprawled on the ground, his throat torn half-out and his eyes steadily growing dull as the life fled from them. With his fall, the adrenaline began to fade, fading from her blood with the fury and rage at the attack on Mason, the attack on all of her coyotes. She panted softly, though she had only exerted herself in running him down. There was nothing difficult or hard about several coyotes pulling down one wolf. Swinging her head to study Gabriel as he spoke, she nodded at the decision to move Halo into the Hydra ranks, thinking it was well-deserved considering the events which had just unfolded before them. That grin again came to her lips as her sole eye sought her granddaughter's familiar face, and she nodded her head almost imperceptibly, a silent congratulations over the clamor of the rest of the coyotes.

Now that battle mode had faded, the coyote woman found herself with fully half of the coyotes, all of them familiar and favorite faces. Anselm's presence was good; she was glad he had been here to help tear the wolf down. He had reacted particularly badly to the advance on their territory, and Kaena was certain he was glad to have this pesky problem resolved. The youngest member of their clan hadn't seemed too terribly injured, though it surely could have been worse. Kae crept over toward him, inquisitively studying his ear for signs of injury as Gabriel inquired on his well-being. He could have been badly injured had their trespassing bastard secured a better hold on a sensitive part of the youngster. The ear was a good place to be struck when one considered the throat or the eye. "Don't worry. You still have growing to do," she said, vaguely disapproving of his presence, but knowing it was far too late to send him off. The danger was over.

The hybrid peered back over to the group, watching Anselm begin to drag the wolf to the border. Wordlessly, the ashen coyote gave a nod to Gabriel and the rest of the coyotes, and took off at a trot to catch up with her clan-mate. She was rudimentary in skill when dealing with the fresh dead, but her steely stomach made her a good candidate for the job anyway. The ashen coyote caught up with her clan-mate, grabbing the tattered corpse by the opposite limb as the golden coyote had to assist him in dragging the foul thing to their perimeter. He deserved exactly what he got, and anyway, they needed to replace what he had stolen from them.

Sad

Pride and an odd sense of embarrassment flushed through the young hybrid when the Aquila addressed her and announced a jump further up in the hierarchy. She flushed slightly with happiness though trying to hide her excitement. A glance was given to Kaena as if searching for reassurance of her deed, and the flash of pride in her grandmother’s eyes made her heart beat stronger, flushing thick happiness and contentment through the teenager’s body. It almost overshadowed the fact that Jael was not present. He too had left her behind. She was certain of it now. She was all alone here. First to arrive, last one remaining. Her family was here though. She should not feel lonely. Was she not where she belonged? Crimson eyes took in those around her and finally settled on her doggish looking uncle. A smile danced on her lips when she gave him a respectful bow. ”Thank you.”. The chase and kill was over, and as the still unknown wolfish man started to drag the body away, the young Lykoi girl took a few steps towards him, wanting to follow. She wanted a piece of that flesh for her lovelies. After a moment of clear hesitation she decided to follow, intent on requesting just a piece of flesh so that her little rodents would know which flesh to seek and devour the next time she let them loose.
