  • BREAK YOUR HEART, & MAKE ME DREAM of you

The area seemed fitting enough for her. A desolate plain of dust and dead trees, perfect for the lonesome shadow of one Ciceroux la'Rex. Her muddy brown and cream coat seemed to carry the grey reflection of the sky and land that she walked through, pulling out the sleek highlights on her long body and boldening her features. It was bright, even though there were dreary clouds cascading above and a thin smearing of frozen snow on the deadened ground. What would normally be a silent approach on the cougar's behalf was turned into a tune of soft crunches underfoot, echoing gently over the flattened ex-territory and carrying on for a short distance. Black ears were pinned back to her skull, though the bright blue of her eyes were calm and even beckoning, despite her apparent loneliness. Her dipped tail switched lazily behind her and she exhaled a breath as she walked, slinking along.

Her general approach was headed on a wayward northern path, perhaps toward the wolfen territories beyond this barren land; though why such a cat would want to intrude there is anyone's wild guess. Ciceroux had never been in this part of the world before, though for all her menacing look, she didn't seem to be lost. There was no doubt her scent has long since saturated the dust here, following the print trail left winding behind her feet. She could be so easily found - a silhouette on the horizon and fresh prints to follow - but perhaps that was her intent. It was after a few more minutes that the cat finally paused in her supposedly mindless journey, tail flicking and an ear twitching, while she cast an intense gaze very briefly to her left. Another moment and she would glance to her right, surveying the dusty grounds that stretched out around her. Even if she had spotted another figure - other than the shadows of pesky birds flapping about a distance off - she gave no indication that she cared.

And then the cougar abruptly crept forward, slightly speedier in her step now, and turned to the nearest tree, dead and blackened as it was. She stretched her forepaws out and up, sickly claws digging deep into the dead wood while she arched her spine quite dramatically. Black lips parted and a pink barbed tongue slipped out in a yawn, while she clawed lazily at the bark, which scraped away loudly. Satisfied, Ciceroux dropped back to the ground and sat her rump down, gnawing pleasantly at the splinters and small bits of wood caught in her paws.

Funny, how that scarred tree looked strangely like a territory marker.

indent A strange and remarkable thing was happening to the young man (who would be four this year, and was perhaps not so young anymore) that even now would not admit he was abandoning the thing he had become. Transformation magic had never settled well with him, and each time he came back with a little less. He had accepted, with a horribly hollow and remarkable sense of defeat, the fact that Matinee D’Angelo, whom he had sworn to love until death, whom he had watched run from him without a second thought, was never coming back. It was a quiet sort of thing, and it gave him no comfort. Instead, he walked away, walked alone, and tried to find peace in the solitude.
indent This solitude was broken by a noise, and soon after the scent and sight of an animal he had seen only once before. That cougar had been dead, nothing but scraps of flesh and fur and a pile of bones. It did not occur to him that perhaps it was a good thing he was no longer carrying that claw necklace, just as it did not occur to him that if the cat wanted he would probably be an easy target. Ahren, who walked on two legs and was not as effective as a fighter as he once was, kept his distance. Still, he was intrigued. “Hello,” he offered.

BREAK YOUR HEART, & MAKE ME DREAM of you

It was hard to tell if the cat had noticed the other's arrival before his greeting or not. She didn't look particularly startled or even nervous when he spoke, and she hadn't given any indication earlier that she'd tuned in to his slow approach. Quite simply enough, he was met with the flattening of black ears and a mildly curious glance from bright blue eyes. There was nothing threatening or aggressive about her in that moment; not in the slightest. She sat lazily, her long and sleek figure slightly hunched at the shoulders, while her thick tail flicked sluggishly, curled around her side.

True enough, the wolf was lucky to have forgotten such trinkets and charms as cougar claws and other paraphernalia, however unoffensive it was meant to be. To Ciceroux, it would have meant something else.. something perhaps worth a bit of aggression. Just the same, the necklace is not there and this wolf - two-legged mutation that he may be - was hardly a threat to the big cat. He might've been taller, but Ciceroux was a climber and would've had little trouble scaling his humanish body to catch his throat. Oh! But he has only said hello, and that hardly warrants thoughts such as these. Ciceroux's black lips pulled into a faint smile and she rolled her shoulders back, straightening her posture a bit.

"Hi there," she returns, her voice velvety and soft. A quiet purr might even be detected, mingled in the back of her throat. "Somethin I can do for you, luv?"

Ugh, forgive the length and lame post.
indent He knew as well as the cat did that she could kill him. Ahren, in fact, knew better; he was not apt or built for fighting, even though he could. The best option he had was the knife, but if it came to that, by the time he slit her throat she would have torn him apart, and they would die together without romance. Shifting his weight slightly, the blonde kept his gaze on her. “No, not particularly,” he said, tone indicating he would not take offense if she left. “I’ve just never seen a cougar this close before.” It was a half-lie; he had seen a skeleton, a long time ago.
