Our Idols Lay in Ruins

Reposted, for Soran.

Well, this definitely was an interesting area. Remains of cabins, subtle signs of the life that had once filled this land... it had a sort of sad tranquility that really caught one's attention. Kieran was glad that he had found it. Sure, he had been brought to the Moaning Woods by hours of mindless wandering, but he didn't regret it one bit. Why should he? It had been an interesting experience thus far. Finally getting quite used to the land of jade and shadows, his new--and hopefully permanent--home, the dark Luperci decided that it was time to take a look at the lands outside the borders. The little explorative journey had yet to disappoint him. The area seemed rich with history, and each old tree around him had a story to tell.

These lands seemed to be long abandoned, with no scent dictating borders or that a small population remained. A few lingering scents were found here and there, probably just from wolves like Kieran whose attention was captured by the sparse landscape. Whatever the case, it didn't seem that he was trespassing upon anyone's territory, which was always a good thing in his book. His golden-hued eyes washed over the area quickly, taking note of certain details, like the way the already thinly spread trees seemed to make way for a small trail to his left. His gaze finally came to rest upon what seemed to him like a charred building of some sort.

Silently he ventured toward the abandoned cabin. He stopped beside it, placing a clawed hand upon its scorched surface. The dark-furred wolf had seen human cities a few times with their strange, concrete buildings. But a log cabin he had only seen once before, though it had not been in as sorry a state as this one was. He began to hum a solemn tune as he moved alongside the building, taking in its features. A small breeze floated by, flowing through his fur and causing him to shiver with a touch of cool fingers. The trees nearby moaned in fruitless protest. Evening was approaching, the temperature slowly falling with the setting sun. It would probably be best if he headed home soon, considering he wasn't exactly sure of the route he had taken to get here. But it wouldn't hurt to examine the place a little more, would it?
