Barking tree

Cow:
Cow was having an alright cow-day. It anticipated sadness though, because it believed that it knew what was coming. No longer were the insects many, no longer was the grass that brilliant green. No, white world was coming and it made the large creature moo a bit with sadness every once in a while. This was all the creature could think about as it randomly broke into one of the wolf territories.

Dawali:
The old fence around the packlands was getting a makeover, although it wasn't entirely necessary. Winter was ahead, and the horses would stay inside for the cold season. Then again, Dawali was bored. He'd finally realized he could not continue working on the Town Hall without help from Hemming, and his mind could not avoid focusing on the strange encounter with Ember only days prior. Improving the old fence proved a magnifiscent tool for taking his mind off things, and now it had recieved a couple of new gates. His hands moved rapidly with the strings of rope tying together old, rotten wood and fresh new pieces. He worked swiftly, humming as he did so

Cow:
As revealed so many times before, Cow was not very bright in any way. It seemed so long ago now, but Cow had met its mate here a rainy day. The large critter was not certain of exactly where, but it knew that it would have to find this mate so that they could huddle together when the air stopped being nice warm and started being mean cold. Cow had a fur. It liked its fur when white world came. Not so much when it was hot green world because it got very warm and there were small tiny things all over biting him in his rump and other places. No, the highland bull did not like. Retarded as it was, Cow had not been eaten by any of the large canines here despite lack of brain. It had made the animal a bit braver than what was good, and when the large bull saw the strange two leg tree thing canine, it trotted towards the thing. If this was in order to scare it away or ask if the tree thing had seen its mate, no one would ever know.

Dawali:
Red ears moved abruptly as they picked up the sound of something trotting along towards him. He turned, and halfway recognized the scent of a bovine - right he was. His eyes showed him a bull heading towards him, in a slow and quite comfortable manner. Despite being te predator here, the sight made Dawali nervous. After all, bulls were huge, and there was no telling whether there was anger or good intent deep down in those empty eyes. Standing rigidly, he moved his arm tentatively - to check the animal's reaction. His eyes shifted to the gate of his fence behind him. Perhaps... No matter the bull's intent, if he could trapt it it would be all the same... His mind raced, for if the bull was angered, trapping it might be his best shot, weaponless as he was. He did not want to kill it, for he wasn't hungry, nor did he want to break his ribs today.

Cow:
The tree wolf was looking at Cow in a weird way. Then it's tree arm moved and Cow slowed down, suspicious by this odd movement. It did not moo back to Cow. This the bull could understand, because they just said woof woof and stuff. The poor barking creatures did not know how to talk. It had to be hard, being a barking thing. Cow wanted white mate with pleasant smell. The large animal mooed and picked up its pace again, not entirely sure what was the plan.

Dawali:
The bull stopped a moment and looked at him, but what it thought he couldn't begin to guess. Who knew what degree of intelligence resided behind that face? Hanna seemed to think that they, along with deer and horses, were quite intelligent, but simply lacked means of commuincating with the wolves. Dawali did not know if he shared this opinion - if his prey could talk it would make his world a lot more complicated. Dismissing the thought, he watched the bull as it started moving again, and his legs crossed to take a step sideways. He had to turn to open the gate, but he did not want to have the animal out of his sight. Slowly, by means of more crossed legs and more sideways steps, his body turned halfway, enough to reach his self-made gate. Behind it lay a large field, but it was fenced. The animal would not be able to escape it. Dawali moved backwards slowly, slipping through the gate and leaving it open. Hopefully, the animal would follow.

Cow:
Cow saw no fence. Cow saw tree canine woofer and he was big and woofer was smaller. The bull’s pace was not steady, and increased and decreased all the time because Cow was a bit confused in general. Why did it not just run away like most other living fur trees? Was it Cow’s mate? No, mate was white and smelt funny, funny in a different way than this tree bark thing funny. Now, Cow was padding, slowly forgetting about its lack of plan because it was an easy thing to follow something else. Perhaps they did understand each other in an odd way? “Moo?” the large bull asked curiously as the tree thing seemed to somehow move even if it was not running. This did not startle Cow, because it had seen many things move without running before. The bull followed in through the gate, oblivious of its existence and the trap it was walking into.

Dawali:
Dawali's mouth slowly spread to a smile as the creature walked closer to where he was. His own form kept moving backwards, keeping himself at a comfortable distance. It was easier said than done, however, as the bovine moved at alternating paces, not really seeming to want to settle on one speed. It would certainly have made his life easier. The creature passed the gate and was inside the enclosure, something he had in the beginning imagined to serve as a paddock for the horses. His plan had worked! Now, it seemed, the area would be inhabited by this dim-witted creature with a fondness for green, edible things. Feeling quite confident, Dawali now turned and moved rapidly, intending to run in a large half-circle around the bull, to end up around it and close the gate. Hopefully, the creature would not follow him into the sprint.

Cow:
Suddenly the barking tree (it had not barked yet, this was true, but it was a barking tree nevertheless) moved super fast like running fast, and worst of all, it had ignored Cow’s question. This surprised the bull a lot, so it had to stand still for a moment and think about what was happening. Running barking woff creatures could come and eat Cow, but it never happened so why would it happen now? Cow had many questions and it was very confused (as usual). If it had been a bit smarter Cow would have realized that he should be lonely. Some canines had been kind to it and patted its head. Some scurried away like this one. Cow did not want it to run away. With yet another pathetic moo, the large highland bull turned and started trotting after the running tree, tongue weirdly hanging out of its mouth because there was no time to remember what to do with tongue now.

Dawali:
Unfortunately, the animal seemed to have a liking for him, for it followed, though somewhat slower than Dawali could run. His gaze remained fixed on the bull as he ran - he didn't have to see where he was going, because he knew the lands very well already. Besides, this was a field, and there were limits to how many things he could trip over in a field. Dawali had a long body fit for running, and soon he was on the other side, arms reaching for the gate —finding it— and closing it. There! He had trapped himself a bull. And, looking closer, he quickly concluded that his little friend (for now that there was some sort of separation between the two, and their contact could be on Dawali's premises, he was a 'little friend') did not look angry at all. Halting there, Dawali waited to see the bull's reaction. If it accepted its new home willingly, Dawali would trust it to be alone and would go to fetch it some things. If not, he would probably have to call on Hemming to brainstorm.

Cow:
Now something happened that Cow had not planned (on the other hand, when DID things go as planned?) Tree barker stopped up, but instead of becoming victorious, the Cow began to feel something that was called suspicion. There was something between them now. Cow raced the last twenty feet before halting and almost falling over. There WAS something in the way. ”Moooo” the bull bellowed, afraid that this unknown thing would eat it. It spun around as fast as its large body allowed and jogged a bit around, slowly realizing that while it seemed to be able to walk a lot a lot and see lots of grass (mmmm, om nom grass) there was a limit now. Brown not tree but kind of tree thingy was blocking the animal’s path eventually no matter where it went. After a little while Cow turned back to canine tree, which was standing there watching the large cattle. If the highland creature had had any brains it would have understood that it was the canine that had tricked it. Fortunately for woof bark thing, Cow could not put those two things together. Cow was just confused, but as long as it could turn around and walk, it did not truly realize that it had been captured. There was grass, grass was good. Cow was a bit uncertain of how to handle this new and slightly odd situation, so it did what it usually did: eating that grass.

Dawali:
The creature trotted around, seemingly to comprehend its new home, and though it looked somewhat distressed at first, it soon settled for eating grass. Dawali watched it a moment in silence, before he spoke carefully: There, that isn't so bad, is it? His hand reached out to the creature with the intent of petting it, hopefully the two of them could become quite accustomed to each other. A new thought flared in his mind now, for he knew that Phoenix Valley held cattle. Perhaps Jefferson would trade with them once again. The coat of this one would let him easily survive the winter cold. Cattle weren't really useful for anything but a constant source of meat, but it would be a good investment for next winter. It was certainly something to consider.
