lost into the weight of gravity

Colibri Haki stood nervously on the borders of her pack for the last time. She had cleaned her cabin before she went, emptying the ashes from the fireplace and dusting out the cupboards, menial pointless tasks to put off the inevitable. If Deuce ever came back... well, that was foolish. None of them were coming back, were they? What was left of the herb and flower garden she had secretively cultivated in the time she had spent there, she had painstakingly transplanted into the greenhouse Henratha left behind for her. Thick guilt closed off in her throat, thinking of the time Anu had visited her garden, when it was sunny and beautiful and perfect. She knew that the annuals were doomed either way; if the frosts of winter didn't kill them, then the lack of water and sunlight would. But there was always a chance that another nature-minded wolf would stumble upon the haven and adopt the greenhouse as their own... she hoped. She didn't want her entire time here to be pointless and unmemorable. Although it probably was, to all but her. Leland's face hovered in her memory for a moment, and she forced it down, unwilling to think about the husky right now. Another painful reason to leave.

The slender werewolf ran her claws nervously through her silken mane, trying to smooth her warm-brown fur and look presentable. What would it mean to renounce her claim to Dahlia de Mai? Auntie Mew, and her adorable children, she might never see them again. Conor and Emwe, whom she had just been feeling closer to, would consider her a traitor by leaving them. Cercelee... Coli never knew what to say to her anymore, her friend, her sister, her leader. It was selfish for her to leave. Hadn't the entire reason she'd come been to protect Cer from Haku, to let her know that their father had fallen into a deeper darkness than either of them had predicted? Leaving her now with the unstable Lilium seemed like the ultimate betrayal, but somehow, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was not welcome here anymore. There was too much pressure here, pressure to fit in when she could not, pressure to be someone she wasn't anymore. Perhaps it was all in her head, but the shadow was impossible to escape without starting anew.

Taking a deep, shuddering breath, the Haki wolfess tipped her muzzle towards the sky, shutting her blue eyes tightly out of fear. She had come this close many times. Every time she was about to howl, she panicked and froze up, anxiety flooding her with predictions of who would meet her when she called. Would it be frightening warrior Cwmfen, who might run her off with a spear or a sword, and tell the others she was a deserter? Would it be Cercelee, blank-faced and hard-eyed as she masked away her emotions and told Coli to get out of her life? Would it be... Haku? Terror-inducing Haku, whose moods swung from threatening her life to pretending she did not exist? She gulped, palms sweaty against her sides. She felt like such a worm, running away to be with a lover. She detested confrontation, but she had brought this upon herself. Figuring that the conflict would be just as unpleasant if she had to tell Anu that she put it off again, the Circèe parted her jaws in the cool air, singing a quavering note, a thin howl requesting a leader's presence. She had made her choice.

Conor can find her green house and take care of her green bebbies!

The demonic Lilium was the one to hear the call of the nervous Dahlia de Mai member. He noted the direction of where the howl was coming from. Calling for a leader from the borders, now what could that mean? A mental grin floated within now. For a moment the Soul man did not move, but he was fairly certain that he was by far the closest leader here. He liked the sound of that. He decided to move swiftly, determined to take this call. Cercelee did not seem to care too much about what he did or didn’t do anyway, so she basically gave him free hands. He would make sure that he would handle this properly.

She was there, his failure of a daughter. Every thing about her disgusted him. She was beautiful in appearance though, but that was a fact taken for granted. It still did not make up for her soft and relative empty brain. The male padded confidently over to her, his pose neutral as always, blue eyes revealing nothing. "What is it, Colibri?” he questioned, voice touched by a sincere curiosity. He knew he was the last person on earth she wished to come. That was probably why he was here.

WC:468 // Uwa, that would be perfect~! Big Grin

lost into the weight of gravity

The wind carried her the scent, his scent, moments before he emerged. Instantly her ears clapped flat against her skull, slim shoulders drawing upwards in a submissive cringe. It was not unlike her reaction to the haughty Tokyo Chance, except for the reflexive panic she was trying to choke down at the very scent and sight of her father. It had been so long since they had seen each other, and she had been grateful for the relief. The last months of winter, she had been looking over her shoulder everywhere she went, terrified that at any given moment, the Lilium would be there to snuff her life out. It was a silly fear, perhaps; he seemed to relish the power (and the leeway) that his high rank offered, and becoming his packmate was the easiest way to gain immunity. Now she was in the most danger she had ever been, because she was about to abandon the Dahlian shield and call herself a defenseless loner...

The lump in her throat bobbed as she gulped, trying to steady her nerves and handle herself like an adult. She was older and much more mature now, and had been hoping to leave a different impression. She thought she could stomach this now, to stare her assaulter in the eyes and let him know she moved on. But one look from his deceptively friendly countenance, and she felt her heart skip a beat in her chest, keenly aware that she could not predict anything he would do. Time had only increased his abilities to camouflage. She used to be better at reading his intentions. "H... Haku..." she exhaled softly, folding her hands before her politely, to keep them from shaking. It was odd to hear him speak her full name. She didn't hear it often. He said it so nicely, too...

"I, I'm sorry, but... I've called you here to s-say... goodbye." Coli's tone was halting, her words deliberate and slow. She had to say this without stammering. If he wasn't her leader anymore, then he was not in control either. Anu was what mattered now. Anu would be her leader, and treat her better than any man could ever hope to aspire to. She jutted her lip in what she hoped was a determined expression, trying to maintain eye contact for more than a brief moment. "I... am renouncing my home here. Please... tell Cercelee." she added weakly, looking aside. She had only bid farewell to Mew. Perhaps her aunt would spread the word, not that many were concerned with the wallflower. She could already feel herself pining for the vineyard, the shoreline, the fields of flowers - it was so hard to tear herself away, even knowing how miserably lonely she felt here. It made her want to cry.

Big Grin 700+

He offered an empty smile when her voice failed her already at her first word. ”Y-yes.” He sent straight back at her, affirming what was clearly obvious; that it was he that had answered her call. His fake smile washed away then and his face turned genuine with that mild curiosity that rarely was on display in his face, perhaps he even regretted making fun of her stuttering. The Haku Soul that had named his daughter was far gone by now; had evolved into something else that no longer could afford being her sire in heart and mind. She had been named after her grandmother because Haku once had loved his ivory mother. He had lost Milla Jolie at Colibri’s birth, but she had never been more than entertainment anyway. His brown and cream coated daughter, however, she had lived and huddled up against his body. She had been so tiny, so insistent to live despite the loss of mother and siblings before she had even taken her own breath. How could he not have loved her?

She had survived and she had been his. Ever since he had turned one year he had known that something was wrong with him. He had brought her to Bleeding Souls and sent her to Clouded Tears where his family still ruled. He had wanted someone to help her lead a worthy life without the danger he could put her in. It had been for the best. Not too long after she had tracked him down again against all odds, she had even brought an ivory friend that reminded the male so much about his grandmother, another person that he had loved dearly back in a time when it had still been possible for him to reach such emotions. He took care of them and Colibri was never sent away again. Unfortunately. His mind had succumbed fast to the first touches of the taint. He had suspected that the demon had either periods of high activity or more dormant periods. Despite this the man had not anticipated such a swift movement from the sickness, and had not been able to stop it.

It took over his mind with a thin layer of a new yet similar consciousness, making it quite easy to turn cruel almost overnight. While he still believed to be in control of himself, he truly was not anymore. The demon’s possession of Haku was not as in the vivid stories about evil spirits and exorcisms. Haku and the demon very slowly turned into one being. His fatherly love had been washed away, and the man had never even noticed when and how it had happened. One day he had destroyed her forever, penetrating her and killing her innocence, receiving pleasure as he did so. He who had once loved her and wished her only well. Once.

The man said nothing as she gave him her message. He could instantly tell that these were words that she had practised and practised on saying. He did not doubt that she had planned this for a long time before actually doing it now today. ”Hold on, Colibri.” the male said with soothe attached to his voice. He walked a bit past her and with a movement with his snout he gesticulated for her to follow him. His whole stance was calm, he only wanted to talk. ”Please calm down, girl, you seem all worked up.” the man said, trying to help her calm those nerves she seemed to always struggle with. So weak, god, why was she still alive. ”It is okay and I accept your decision, I just want to talk a bit with you about it first so that everything will be clear so that no one can hold any grudges.” Surely she could not reject such an opportunity. To be able to leave without being despised, without leaving disappointed friends and family behind. He set the course towards Crimson Dreams, although made sure to make her believe that the direction of the walk was completely random. It was not hurried, it was not swift. It was a slow pace, so that it was easy and natural to share a conversation while moving. He, of course, knew where she would be going. Who she would be going to.

WC:478 // Aww... how heart-breaking! ;o;

lost into the weight of gravity

Coli flinched as the Lilium mocked her, but almost as quickly as the cruelty began to surface, it all but vanished. His reaction... wasn't what she expected. His voice held reason, and even warmth, a warmth she had always strained herself listening for and had never found before. A flicker of uncertainty crossed her expressive face; had she been wrong to distance herself? Had the darkness finally run its course, and now Haku was back to the way he had been during her childhood? She took a hesitant step, unsure if she should follow him. It could be a trap. She had sworn not to trust him. He couldn't be her dad anymore, after what he had done to her. But oh, how she wished she could still love him...

She had never been able to forget, to move on, because she couldn't dredge up the hate to want to erase his presence from her life. She remembered how sickened she had felt at the borders of Dahlia de Mai, when she had been greeted by Svara Thames and a pregnant Firefly Sadira - sick with fear that something terrible would happen to them too, but also undeniably jealous, that Haku appeared to have found a loving family without her. If he could not care about anyone, then it was understandable, but why them instead of her? And silly Firefly and her suspicions, accusing Colibri of joining the pack to make an attempt on Haku's life. Coli was always more likely to take her own life than her sire's. She was still naively waiting for the apology that would never come... It hurt her more that he had left her behind to die than anything else. If he had stayed... she would have too.

"It's... okay?" she repeated with a hint of incredulity. He was just teasing her, he had to be. She padded meekly behind him, tense with anticipation. She shouldn't let him suck her into his twisted games; he couldn't figure out the insurmountable conflict in her mind, or he would pull her to pieces. Still, she did follow him... "I... wouldn't want to upset Conor and Emwe," she blurted in agreement, head bowed shyly. He had bullied her about his sons in the vineyard those seasons ago, pushed her so far that she had promised to protect them from him. What a useless shield she was. It was probably better that she let them forget about her, rather than continually burden them with promises she couldn't keep. She would miss them, though.

Was she making a mistake in leaving? No, Anu... She wanted to please everyone. Her loyalties were torn. But the one person's approval she wanted more than anything else was the one person who would never give it to her, the one so casually leading her away from what was once her home.

Haku’s nod seemed completely sincere when she asked if it actually was okay. To be honest, Haku was surprised she had stayed for so long. Having a horrible father in the pack as well as a friend who no longer had time for the whiny little thing really should have killed her reason for being here. Yet she had stayed and he could only guess that it was because of friendship with other individuals or something pathetic like that. Or maybe even more likely: she never really managed to gather enough courage to announce that she intended to leave until now. Haku was very content that he had been so close when she had decided to let her leaders know.

The male did not have to turn his head to make sure she was following. Her uncertain food steps sounded quietly behind him and he smiled mentally, wondering when she would learn. Did she still hope for affection? Did she hope that her daddy would return in some form and love her? Did she realize how completely hopeless such a hope was? ”Yes, I’m sure they will miss you.” the male replied when she mentioned not wanting to upset his two youngest sons (that he knew of anyway). Haku had no idea of how close she was to her half siblings. He did not give a shit about her nor them.

He let them walk in silence for some time, giving off the expression that he was gathering words to say to her before it was time for a final goodbye. The only reason why he was leading her away was to make sure that none of the two remaining Dahlia leaders would be able to find them at once. They would probably believe that she had said what she wanted to say to the Lilium then left the lands. The fact that it was also possible to scent his own trace together with hers did not worry him, because it would seem just as likely that he could have come from that direction and wandered further into Dahlia.

Now, finally, the man slowly turned, his facial expressing not the usual ice block, but something else. It was no hostility or cruelty. Perhaps he seemed genuinely sad that she was actually leaving. ”Dahlia will surely miss you.” As if. ”Do you have anything in specific you want me to tell them?” he now asked, voice still kind, almost too kind. Wonderful anticipation was slowly gathering in his chest now. She too had halted now, and as she was in the middle of her sentence, he lunged out at her without any warning whatsoever. Deadly fangs opened wide and aimed for her throat. Today she would finally die.

WC:523 // Yesss, guilty as charged! Although it's also in the Bible. But I was quoting SOAD. Big Grin

lost into the weight of gravity

He nodded, affirming that he wasn't offended by her choice. She tilted her head in silent puzzlement; hadn't Haku always been Dahlia's big bad wolf, scaring off loners and those who deserted? She thought for certain that she had heard rumors about him in particular being less-than-welcoming, even to the point of attacking with tooth and fang. Those... could just be rumors, though. Or perhaps outdated tales, no longer applicable to the gentler side of her father. Yes, she liked that. His cruel deeds in the past could be forgiven, if his dark side had finally shriveled up and died, for that would make him a new man. He might let her visit Conor and Emwe, then, and arrange meeting with Cercelee if she found more time... He had never been very warm to her, that she could recall, but there was always time to forge a new relationship between them. They could have a future...

Her wild fantasies spun her away from the present, weaving blinders to the clear and present danger before her. She was greedy, to hope for things to go well for her. And a fool, to still have faith in a man that tried to kill her more than once. They were quiet for a time, rustling softly through the carpet of autumn leaves. Colibri was more relaxed now, still light on her feet, but not as jumpy or cautious. Haku spoke again, turning slowly to face her. Her heart fluttered at the sight of his piercing blue eyes, so similar to her own, but without the aggressive gleam she remembered so vividly. He was... calm. She swallowed, half-smiling as she tried to articulate the exact reason she was leaving. Was it just that she had never found her place? Was it her own inability to adjust? Or was it simply that she had found a warmer bed to lay in?

"I... I think I would have to say thank -- aaiiiieeee!"

Her voice split into a panicked shriek as out of nowhere, Haku lunged for her jugular. Adrenalin shot through her, reflexes snapping her arms up to shield her face and throat as she stumbled backwards. What, what happened? Why had he snapped? What mistake had she made this time, what trigger word had invoked his bestiality? It took her several confused moments before she finally realized that he had been planning this all along. What a colossal trusting fool she was, to know of his wiles and be trapped by them once again. The heavy wolf crashed into her, slamming her into the ground in a flurry of dead leaves. Her slim arms took the brunt of his fangs, but she did not feel the bruises or the lacerations in her heightened state of reality. She rolled away from him as quickly as she could manage, long werewolf legs scrabbling against the forest floor in an attempt to stand and run. Was she still screaming? She couldn't even hear herself if she was, her heartbeat deafening to her ears. Escape. Do anything to escape. It's not safe to touch him. Just get away from the monster.

Alli next. 300++

Haku would never be able to understand the reasoning for her foolishness. He could not understand why she willingly followed a few steps behind him without pitch black anticipation. How could she not realize that every step she was taking while following him was another step towards her shallow grave? No. There would be no grave. Haku was not one to leave evidence behind. He would tear out her heart and swallow it whole; finish her like he should have finished Colibri Soul two years ago. Nothing would change no matter how often he glanced back at the mistakes he had done in the past. It mattered little now anyway. He, and only he knew where the pitch black dagger’s location. He would forever be immortal and spread fear and loathing through the land like the disease he was carrying in his heart.

It was strange to see that his attack took her completely off-guard. Unfortunately the female managed to block off his deadly jaws from crushing her jugular His teeth rasped against her arms, creating lines that released streams of red. She could not block the rest of his muscular body as he slammed heavily into her and caused them both to collide into the ground. Agile was something she had always been, and her face disappeared the moment his powerful jaws slammed shut the second time without their rightful trophy. Her screaming filled his ears with pain. Why did she have to make it so difficult? Why could she not simply realize that the longer this was to take the more suffering she would have to go through? Well, Haku did not really mind either way, but her disgusting noise had to be silenced.

She was quick, but Haku was still on his four clawed feet and as she struggled to stand up and run, the insane Lilium twisted around and trailed her; kicking off with powerful legs. She had tried to run away in the past without succeeding so why try now? The chocolate brown man did not hesitate as he went after her; he simply did not have any last words to say to her. She was nothing to him. Teeth set out to sink into her hip as his claws lashed out to find either a part of her hip or leg to dig into. This was not a chase; this was a hunt. She was the prey. Haku knew well how to take down his prey. This had to go fast though, because through the scents of blood and fear there was this vague perfume of Crimson Dreams.

The tea pot was placed on a dresser in her room. Small stems of holly bushes, dotted with red berries, stuck out from the opening. It was waiting, decorated for the one that had given it to her. Anu had left it a day ago. Her paws were tired, but she still donned her Optime form. Four paws would have brought her more quickly, but Anu enjoyed the thought of wrapping her arms around the woman she sought far too much to shift downwards. After her conversation with Conor, Anu moved freely through the Dahlia landscape with eagerness in her steps.

The Dreamer could smell her, a sweet scent that tempted her like honey. Her imagination had heard her voice, calling to any that wished to hear, though Anu was sure it was just a figment that her hopes conjured. The smell of her grew and grew, and it was laced with a rot that made her brow furrow with concern. In the trees Anu slowed, pausing slightly to listen to the forest. They were sound muffled by distance and yet clear by their intensity.

The woman ran, the unknown melted with Coli’s scent and she ran as quickly as she could. There was no time to shift, no time to think or plan. Fear grew as she found the poisoned scent to that of Haku, propelling her further and faster. Her muscles tore, screamed from the fatigue they already felt and the unrelenting commands her mind gave them. The slight fey found it hard to find a match to her sprint, and now she felt her paws loose all control with only one thought in mind. Anu felt the scream echo in her ears, again and again and still she was not prepared to see the beast that hid her lover beneath his body.

She could have screamed, spoken, yelled. But all the Dreamer could do was pull the fragile female from beneath him. Hope to bring her to her feet, hope to tear her away from his jaws. Her voice was ragged, and she tried to speak. Nothing came. Again she held the wolfess, her arms clinging to brown fur in ever attempt to keep her from his teeth. There was blood, she was bleeding, but Anu could not avoid the wounds she had already suffered. She spoke again, and still her voice was lost. There was no guarding the younger female from the male, his form too large and powerful. “Run!” her voice spoke, finally flushed from its hiding place by her panic. There was no hope for them to fight, they needed to flee.

lost into the weight of gravity

She would never learn. It just wasn't something she was capable of, not when it came to him. She couldn't trust men, to the point of driving her into the arms of a woman; she couldn't muster the self-esteem to consider herself an attractive wolf, because she looked so much like the father who haunted her; and still, she couldn't condemn him, either. It wasn't her father who had raped her of her innocence, it was the darkness behind his eyes, the spirit that possessed him. There was a clear distinction to her. Her real father was still in there somewhere. It was just unfortunate that he did not come out today.

Colibri hugged her arms across her chest, blue eyes watering as she felt them burning. The gouges seared, hot like fire where the blood oozed down her fur. She hadn't felt her blood be drawn in such a long time... He had been the first to do that to her, too. Everything was a blur. She couldn't focus on anything, her wild eyes flashing as she tried to flee, just like a panicked doe with the scent of the wolf in her nostrils. Another agonized shriek tore from her throat as she felt him rake her hip, his slashing fangs knocking her off-balance. Her knees buckled, dropping her to the forest floor as she clutched at her hip, rocking instinctively to try and offset the throbbing ache. As the Lilium's claws came whistling through the air, forward momentum propelling his maiming strike, she choked out a sob, "Wh-why, Dad?"

Then she was jerked backwards, the deadly claws missing her face by a whisker-length. Disoriented by the sudden movement, she went limp, burying her face in the soft fur. Someone, pulling her away, hands grabbing at her. It couldn't be Anu. She must be hallucinating again - wasn't her life supposed to flash before her eyes? There wasn't much she wanted to see again, other than the sandy-furred leader of Crimson Dreams. But she would never want Anu to have to face Haku. That would be her worst nightmare, because no matter the outcome, she would lose.

“Run!” cried the voice, cutting through her dizzying panic. It sounded like Anu. If Anu wanted her to run, she should do so. She should do anything Anu asked her to, her mind suggested reasonably. Finally responding, her fingers closed tightly around her rescuer's slim wrists, the strength of desperation making her squeeze far too hard. Haku would never want her around, and she didn't want to die this time. She had to follow the one person who would let her live in peace. Though the exchange took only moments, it felt like an eternity from her detached view as her exhausted body lurched forward again, stumbling to run away with her first love.

Ears were deaf to her pathetic weeping. This was his game, his world, his kingdom. This bitch would die in agony. Haku did not want to hurry; he wanted her to suffer as long as her struggle brought him entertainment. Ears perked and flicked as they attempted to filter out Colibri’s screaming in order to discover the sound of someone approaching. He snarled when brilliant blue orbs found the grayscale female coming to the rescue. He did not see this bold move as a threat- more a nuisance actually. Now he would have to kill the sub-leader of Crimson Dreams as well and there would be little to no fun at all for him. He would be able to drink twice the amount of blood though. The dark tempered male flashed an icy grin.

Anu stupidly attempted to drag the woman away from the crazed father, and he almost had to admire her courage. Perhaps there was a way to get some additional fun out of this. His movement was not optimal as he followed them, taking his time. Colibri was stumbling and slowing them down. He watched the movements of her burdened boy. Her tail suddenly seemed so tempting. Excitement exploded within the male again and he went into full speed as his jaws opened wide. There was nothing to decipher in the beast’s eyes anymore. Father and daughter were so alike in every way, so why not make the resemblance even more stunning? Razor sharp teeth sunk into the chocolate coated woman’s beautiful tail.

The moment he knew his jaws had locked properly his limbs struck into the ground as he leaned backwards in the opposite direction of where the two women were trying to flee. According to a dim memory where a coyote ripped off his own tail this was going to hurt quite a lot.

;.; pretty tail!
"flail her hand around and be useless." <-- pretty much xD

She shouldn’t have lingered, shouldn’t have waited. Anu shouldn’t have let her leave the safety of the packlands. This was no home, and this beast was no leader, father. He was soulless. Anu had left her to venture into the grasp of the demon, and she had known. She had known he would find her and kill her. Her arms were failing her, her legs unable to carry them both. Anu was failing her, and her mind continues to scream a single command to her slight and lean form. Run There was no other way, they needed to run, flee from the beast that sought the heart of the woman she loved. He would kill her, kill them both if Anu did not succeed in pulling her free. The thought of home, safety and security was like a distant memory. All Anu could think was to run. They would run, faster then any beast and he would never be able to catch them.

“Run.” She pleaded again. Her breath was ragged as the two females moved together with speed that would never allow them freedom from the monster’s grasp. Anu clung to the brown she wolf, blood covering both their forms. Tears fell from her eyes, pulled from their corners by desperation and fear. They washed her face as she held the fey, foot paws fitting the ground but the scenery did not change as she attempted to run. Coli was heavy in her arms, but Anu could feel the beat of her heart see the fear in her face. It all happened too fast. Her head turned, eyes finding the male that chased them. Fright had made her not want to look, and she almost began to shake at the sight of the beast’s mouth around the tail of the female that resembled him so completely. Her mouth opened to speak, but all the came was a cry. She did not stop urging her forward, to scared to turn and face the male that chased them. Claws lashed out, pulling the woman with one arm and the other hoping to free her. But it all happened to fast, Anu could not save her.

lost into the weight of gravity

Between ragged gasps for air and the thundering of her panicked heartbeat, a glimmer of hope began to surface. If Anu had really come to save her, if they had been walking in the direction she absentmindedly recalled, then they must be nearing Crimson Dreams. If the females could cross the border, they would have asylum and the pursuit would end.

There had always been a method to Haku's madness, hadn't there? Dancing through the loopholes in the rules, flaunting his power to escape punishment - there was no way he would kill the leader of a pack on her own territory. That would be sheer madness, an instant death sentence from every pack. Even peace-loving Cercelee wouldn't be able to ignore that infraction.

So if they could just keep fleeing forward, get close enough to her new home -- oh, what a queasy feeling that caused, what a coward she had grown up to be -- wouldn't they at least be safe from his wicked talons and fangs? How horrible of her, to have dragged her lover into this mess of a family. If Anu got hurt, how would she ever forgive Coli? The brown werewolf had her head bowed in shame, tears squeezing past her shut eyelids as she blindly stumbled after the woman who pulled her along. She couldn't bear to look at anyone, let alone behind her. She never saw it coming.

PAIN

Coli choked, white exploding before her eyes. A wrenching, searing fire had somehow consumed her hindquarters - on one suspended moment, she swore she could hear the popping of individual vertebrae separating, and a terrible ripping as the muscle tissue shredded in two. Just as suddenly, there was release; an agonizing throbbing taking its place, blood leaking from the severed stump. The shock paralyzed her voice, froze her lungs in her chest, left her clawing midair for something to steady herself against. Her numb arms found Anu, of course, wrapping around the Dreamer's shoulders in a desperate embrace, anything to keep her from passing out then and there. The color had drained from her face, her slender body racked with reflexive shudders. Then her wild blue eyes rolled back, gazing in horror at her father, the limp remains of her tail caught between his cruel jaws. He had found a new way to torture her; he had only destroyed her spirit before. Now he had deformed her body, leaving her looking just as incomplete as she had always felt.

Her stumbling gait had slowed to a shamble, shock threatening to take her over. It was not a fatal wound, though, her mind managed to recognize. Stop the bleeding, and you'll live. You promised... to live. She managed to voice a strangled whine, knees trembling as she moved to run. It had never been more crystal-clear that her father didn't want her to exist, and if she stayed, she would only be letting Anu down. Getting her killed, too. If she could escape now... No, there wouldn't be a next time. This was goodbye. She should have said it years ago.

The foolish dreamer lived up to her name as her hand flew after him. The male’s jaws sawed through skin, flesh and bone. His jaws finally connected and he jerked his head opposite the direction of the gray woman’s claws. The piece of fur and flesh suddenly gave in and he heard the lovely sound of the last connecting flesh and muscles being ripped. Blood cling to his face and he felt his own, unshed blood bubble in his veins. His cruel gaze moved to Anu now, for she had tried to fight back. He had wanted Haki’s tail and she had tried to keep him from it. Did she not see that Coli belonged to him? It was his blood running beneath her skin and it was his right to do whatever he pleased with her.

His jaws opened – letting go of the severed piece of Coli’s tail. He was troubled. There were so many options to choose from. As Haku’s sickness raged through him, devouring him slowly from the inside, he found that he paid less and less attention to possible consequences. The twisted Lilium had always been fond of the moment – the presence, and this was now. Blood and fear dancing heavily through the air as the most seductive perfume, Haku felt a spike of dead emotion; contentment; life. Was it life he so desperately wanted to feel? Perhaps he was dead. Perhaps this was the only way to feel free and alive. The Dahlian followed the pair a few steps before he stopped dead in his track, watching their red forms with genuine satisfaction.

They believed they were getting away, but mortals were so deluded. They did not understand that they were running from their own salvation. They always wanted to make things so much harder for themselves. Only misery awaited them wherever they would go. Haku did not forget. Haku did not tire. He would continue to make Coli’s life more miserable than she could imagine – even now. ”I’ll take good care of your brothers, Coli, don’t you worry!” the male called out after the pathetic creatures. His words would probably seem odd to Anu, but the words had not been meant for the Dreamer. Coli would understand the message. No one would know how Coli came to lose part of her tail. He had barely touched her, and the heavy stench of blood had already overpowered whatever scent was left of him on her form.

The large secui turned and retrieved his newest treasure. He would soon have to admit himself to be a collector. This would be his fourth tail piece. He wanted more. His impossibly blue gaze reached up towards the heavy clouds that were coming to erase blood and every other trace of the crime scene. He had gotten away with a crime again.

wrap it up?

She wouldn’t forgive herself, couldn’t. Each time her eyes lingered on the woman’s face Anu would know that she had not protected her. Guilt, pain, the vision of crimson stained fur would fill her mind. The knowledge he knew who he was, the inkling that he might come after her should have been enough to never allow her to step foot into the male’s territory. But…

They were going to die.

It didn’t matter, or make a notion of difference how she might feel in the next moment. They would never experience another beyond the pain and horror that was experienced. Together they would die, together be torn apart by the fangs of the monster. Their blood and carcasses melting into one as he ripped each of them into figured no one would ever recognize. His demonic eyes held Anu as she looked at his face. Jaws crushing and tearing at the woman that she loved. She had never come so close to death. They would die.

Anu could see nothing beyond the second that passed. Her form still continued to pull at the woman, her legs still tried to run. But her mind would not leave the notion that they would die. Her eyes closed, slowly as if time had stopped and she began to think again. Her head turned, as if she needed to look anywhere else beyond the male that would be her murderer.

She woke from the adrenaline-fueled dream. The forest blurred, and motion could be felt. She was running. A voice filled the haze around her, hardly heard beyond the pulse in her ears. Her arms where still wrapped around another, but she was running. Blue eyed looked back, and by that time there was nothing left to see but the forest she had just passed. Never letting her pace falter, the Dreamer looked down. The blood soaked the light silver fur of her stomach, the tan of her arms. Her breathing heightened, and her senses awoke at the remembrance of the dream. Their reality. Tears would not stop, and they blurred her vision. Running in a general direction Anu hoped for her lands, dreamed and yearned for safety.

“Don’t stop.” She choked. They couldn’t, not until they reached home.
