daddy dearest

Jontae had no clue what in the world she was going to do about this figure that she was suppose to believe was her father. He didn't seem to want anything to do with her and as hard as she tried she didn't think that she wanted anything to do with him either. Her mother had told her that he was a great man and that she was a bit like him, but she was starting to think that perhaps her mother was very wrong indeed. She had been trying to follow the scent of her father but it had been a long and hard time tracking the king and she was growing tired.

The small girl sat down in the cold morning frost and sighed. She didn't even know why in the world she was looking for him, he was probably just going to act like a snot again and ignore her. Firefly and Ruri seemed to like him though and she couldn't understand why everyone else liked him and he seemed to like them but he seemed to believe that she was something less than the fleas in his pelt. Her bottom lip pouted out as she glared at the frosty grasses before her. Why was she so disliked when she barely even knew her dad.

Ahh, poor little dear! It's because Daddy is touched in the head!
WC: 383

It was a cold morning; frost rimed the delicate blades of grass, making the pale sunlight glitter and sparkle on the crystalline world, as the grey sky showed slow signs of warming up to blue. Jacquez Trouillefou shivered, thin feathered fur standing on end all along his rigid spine. He loathed the cold. It had been the one downside to sailing the high seas, the main reason he had not made a career out of it - the wintry weather, sending chills through to one's very bones, making teeth chatter and limbs tremble - truly, a detestable prank for nature to pull.

The temperamental monarch found himself pacing along the frozen turf, single arm tucked in the small of his back. Life had been tumultuous as of late. Good things happened, like finding Finn Fidh; and bad things, like Heath trying to usurp Ruri's affections. And of course, he had been doing everything in his power to skirt about the puppy infestation. How many were there now? Leroy's whelps, Whisper's orphan, his own bastard, and possibly more he did not know about. He exhaled in a huff, watching grumpily as the breath crystallized in midair.

"Je ne le comprende pas."

As he paused, black eyes sweeping the scene, he noticed what he had not spotted immediately - a small dark lump, suspiciously fluffy and a bit larger than he had remembered. It had to be Jontae, the child Rogue had given birth to and still not returned for. She had not noticed him yet, so he took the opportunity to study her from a distance. She really didn't look anything like him. Ruri and Firefly had been looking after her, and apparently growing rather fond of her. He had not given her a chance, and why?

Because pups were annoying, yes, but he had raised Ruri from the same age, after all. It was more the fact that this girl seemed independent enough not to need him, and Jacquez wanted to be needed. It stung him far too deeply to watch Ruri become an adult and make her own choices. This little girl would be fine on her own, tough like her parents. He steeled his jaw and stepped forward, crossing the field before her line of sight. Maybe she wouldn't say anything.

ooc: Oh God no! Puppy eyes!

Jontae had been quietly pondering this strange new world that had been thrust upon her when the scent of her father caught her attention. Her tiny little ears quivered as she tried to decide just what to do. She had figured that if the man wanted nothing to do with her than she'd give him just that and ignore him for the most part unless more was demanded of her. The small brown and tan girl really didn't understand much of this world but she was trying atleast, which was more than some were willing to do.

She caught the smallest bit of motion from the corner of her eye as the brilliant pelt of her father came into view. She wondered why her own pelt was so much darker and why except for one pathetic floppy ear and a silky coat she shared nothing in common with the man. While she watched the male crossing before her she didn't speak though her eyes cried out for the male, a sad pitiful hunger in those blue green wells that begged for acceptance and love from the creature that was suppose to be family.

Eep! I can't resist puppy eyes~ <3

Jacquez gritted his teeth, trying to walk faster as he felt her eyes on him. If he could just get out of her sight, he wouldn't feel that stare boring into the back of his neck, making his fur stand on end -- "Zut alors, petite, quel est ta problème?" he exclaimed, whirling to face the small child. Her eyes were so pitiful, welling with longing and desperation in their innocent depths. The king made a sour face, not intending to shout at the pup, but not remorseful enough to apologize. Jontae... What sort of life had she led up to this point? She must not have had any sort of stability, traveling in the rag-tag troupe of survivors. Shouldn't she be happier here, motherless or not?

With a grunt, the tall man squatted on his haunches, lowering himself closer to her level. He wasn't about to clamor about on his hand and knees, but it was not entirely undignified to hunker down a bit so that he was not looming over the little scrap of fur. "...Jontae. Do you like it here?" he asked stiffly, trying to make pleasant conversation to make up for his earlier outburst. There, now Ruri would not frown at him later when her ward relayed the story. He didn't ignore her entirely. He didn't call her names or act cruel. He just... didn't really get what it meant to be a father. To him, there was no connection to this child other than being in the same pack. Was he supposed to feel something towards his kin? Because he didn't feel much towards anyone, let alone a daughter he hadn't known existed until days ago...
