Cambria was constantly thankful that she had her family and Crimson Dreams to call home. The world was a scary place and she knew that she was lucky to have such a stable environment to live in. Unlike some youths, she did not see the world through rose colored glasses. In fact, her view of things was probably even darker than it actually was. Each person she met and did not know was a potential threat to her person and it was only after they proved that they meant her no harm that she would ease in her tension and converse easily with others. The young girl really had no itch to explore the world as her brother and sister did. Home was safe, everything outside of it was an uncertain threat. Why would she leave that comfort and safety? It made no sense to her. Coming to AniWaya was fine though. Her best friend lived here and now she knew Dawali as well. It was close to Crimson Dreams and the trip between the two could be made quickly. She did not fear anything bad befalling her when either place would be within calling distance.

At the Kalona's deep chuckle she almost laughed herself, his jolliness contagious in the best way. He seemed like everything a tutor should be: knowledgeable, kind, wise, and with a light humor. Cambria knew she was lucky to have found such a teacher in the skill she wished to pursue. Her confidence was already growing in his presence and they had not even commenced any lessons yet. This only continued with the next words that he spoke. He thought she was clever too, along with all the other nice things that he had already said about her? It seemed impossible to her blinded eyes that such qualities could be so easily seen by the wise luperci, but innately she trusted his judgment and so did not question him with her own insecurities. Her only response was a small, happy smile and an accompanying wag of her tail. With Dawali to guide her, the task ahead seemed much less daunting and she guessed would feel more akin to play than work despite knowing what they did was serious.

Obediently she followed the AniWayan towards the entrance to the building, excitement mounting to see the animals inside. While his answer made a lot of sense to her, it seemed she had not really asked the right question. She had no idea that some packs cared for animals and used them for various things, especially horses, and she did not know why they would keep the animals around and care for them. "Oh, okay, but why do you keep them? Do they do something for you?" She had kept Leafy, but that had been for his protection and care and for her to have something to distract herself from the accident that had happened to her. The girl didn't know why else wolves would keep other animals. Dawali unlocked the door and walked inside and she followed quickly. It took her eyes a moment to adjust to the lower light, but her nose was instantly assailed with a myriad of new and different scents. Her cream-tipped ears flicked at the horse's noise and her eyes grew wide with wonder at the animal that Dawali touched. Cambi's jaw hung agape as she nodded, yes, the horse was beautiful. She had had no clue that such creatures existed and now she was completely captivated by the mare.

The girl continued to impress and charm him, and Dawali could easily see that teaching her would be both easy and rewarding. She had chosen the wrong season to begin, though, seeing as herbs were probably the most interesting part of his profession. Or perhaps she had been lucky, with much time on her hands to think about it all before she came so far as to actually put it to use. It could be that it would be very useful for her to do it this way around instead, even though it was not the way he was used to go about it. He smiled at her when she asked him why they kept the horses. It was the same question everyone asked, and there were numerous reasons. Some, like Asha, he was sure, kept them mostly for the sake of companionship. He saw no problem in this, though he would forever consider them also as a potential food source, should the need rise. Asha would probably strangle him if he ever mentioned that to her, though. Smiling, he pointed to the dove in the girl's hands. "Well.. why do you want to save that little bird?" He paused to glance ahead at where they were going before continuing. "We keep them because they are strong and can run very fast and far, faster and further than me, for example, but also because in the long run they become almost like our friends. We care about them, and they allow us to ride on them and they help us with a lot of stuff."

He chuckled at Cambria as her face morphed into a mask of pure amazement, mouth wide open and eyes the size of the moon himself. She said nothing at first, and he seized the opportunity to comment on her reaction, just to tease a little. "I see you understand why we like them so much." He winked at her, but he was not entirely sure if she was in a state to notice it. Moving his hand as if to point further into the building, he spoke again, trying to remind her about their purpose in coming here. "We keep seeds and stuff at the back of the building, that way." He took a step in that direction, testing to see if she was following or not. He would not mind leaving her there for a moment to get the seeds, but he wanted to show her in case she needed to come here to get some more of them for the bird. She was going to come by the pack every now and then anyway; she might as well be allowed to help herself to the seeds without having to ask him every single time. She was a good girl, and Dawali trusted her.

Yay new Dawali Kiritar Big Grin 300+

She had to agree with the fact that learning about the herbs sounded like the most fun and interesting, but at the same time she saw the virtues in getting her more basic knowledge first before having to worry about the more complex practices of healing. There would be a lot for her to take in and doing it one step at a time would be the best to absorb it all properly and well. Though certainly any way in which Dawali decided to teach her would be good. He was the one with the knowledge and he would know how best to pass it on to her. As he asked her about why she wanted to save the dove she looked down at the poor frightened creature. The answer wasn't hard to find though, and came instantly to her lips. "Because he deserves to live, like everything else." Cambria found all life was important, from that of wolves all the way down to the smallest insect or plant. Hunting was not something she enjoyed, even if it were necessary for survival. Taking anything's life was not something she took pleasure in. As the Kalona explained the functions and uses of the horses she could see why they kept them, though of course the last reason made the most sense and appealed the most to her. "Oh, I see. I didn't know they could do all those things." Apparently they were very helpful animals.

Even if Dawali hadn't have been able to answer her question after seeing this one for only a few seconds she understood. The girl had never seen anything like it and she was completely drawn in by the unique beast. So much so that she nearly missed the elder luperci's little jest. Voice lost in awe all she could do was nod in response; yes, she certainly understood now why they liked them and wanted to keep them around, even if they didn't provide such help that he had stated. Cambria probably would have been content to stand and watch the horse for hours if Dawali hadn't reminded her of what it was they had come here for. "Oh, yeah, sorry," she said with a sheepish smile. The amazing new animal had made her completely forget about the seeds. Following him further into the building she couldn't help but sneak glances back at the horse, amazed by the power and strength that it exuded.

As she expressed her opinion on life, Dawali smiled. Cambria had reached the conclusion that the bird's life was worth no less than that of wolves; it was charming, too. Many adult wolves had not reached this conclusion even though they had had years to figure it out, and here stood a young girl confidently offering this thought. Dawali agreed, at least to a certain extent. He would include another element; that of necessity, for he was a predator, and he needed to kill his prey. That was how life worked, and surely Cambria knew that too. If not, she would realize in time, but their lives and that thought could be combined, if one allowed certain additional elements into the equation. He smiled at her as she replied to his final explanation, and the two continued on in silence for a moment, soon reaching the stables.

She apologized and followed him further into the building. In fact, it was not big at all, but dense, in a way. He had divided the back into a few small rooms, in one which he kept everything needed for the spring season. Here were tools for crops, and bags of seeds to induce them. Feeling a few bags, looking for the right kind of seeds (some types were a little too big for a dove's beak, he thought), he spoke about the horse still. Seeds were not really an interesting conversation subject anyways. "My daughter Asha is very good with horses. I'm sure if you asked her one day — because you'll probably meet her — she'll be glad to teach you how to ride and care for one." Asha was an older sister; she knew her way around children okay, though Dawali had never really properly observed her with one. He had cared for Aiyanna until he became unable, and by then he was never home to see anything at all. Perhaps that was just as well that he had never seen Asha with a puppy; he probably would have felt quite old, knowing that his daughter was in fact old enough to have one of those children of her own.
