And I'll see you around...[aw]

It was a fairly brisk morning. The fog had not even listed and it seemed to freeze on contact from everything else. In her optime form Angel made her way to the main hunting grounds for the pack. Her resolve had not changed nor had her personality. So what if Bruton was here. Big deal. She could not let her guard or her faith down just because of that. If Bruton wanted her, he would have to fight the whole pack to get to her. No matter. Steam flowed from her nostrils like smoke from the flame as she looked down onto her target.

A massive herd of elk cows and their young roamed the area and only a couple males were behind them. It was the ending of the rut season and things were settling down with the herds. The cows that had needed bred had been bred and the young had made it through their first rut but for them it had only just begun. They had the winters to face and the lack of food to figure for themselves. Angels blackened pelt whipped in the slight breeze as she kept her fuchsia colored eyes on the herd below. Finally making a move, Angel tilted her head back and let out a call to the others around.

High tones and low tones mixed together in such a melody that seemed solemn and moving. Her voice was like the goddesses above and smooth to the tone. It reached the breezes of the wind and soon gracefully made its way through Phoenix Valley. Angel thought it would be a good hunt for all of them - and she also wondered if the higher ranked were supposed to call hunts, but this was for fun she assumed and beneficial for the pack since the winter had begun and the lack of food would soon follow.

The howl Angel delivered echoed across the fields, which at first derived nothing, but that is what normally happens, at least for a few seconds another howl was delivered, but this one wasn't of an inexperienced member of the pack. This was the howl of Ty Trenton Nasphrite, who although was not inexperienced or new to hunting, he was simply in the area, howling back to ask if she wanted his help. His howl, unlike hers, wasn't so airy and moving, though his howl left a mark. His howl was much stronger and seemed to simply power through the wind instead of drift across it, barreling to Angel's ears with an impressive, yet startling howl.

Ty was on the other side of the elk, with him waiting in the foliage on the ground, although the snow was beginning to lay across the land after a few snow storms, Ty was still able to be fairly good at concealing himself in the areas he could, hiding behind sticks that slightly matched his orange fur color. Although he was a wolf, it was strange how much Ty looked like a large dingo sometimes, as if he had been descended from them. It was known he wasn't, but the orange fur was simply confusing in this area.

After the howl,Ty waited in silence, but t was obvious the elk had hear the two wolves and were beginning to move about. The mothers were all gathering their children, while the stronger male elk had begun to move in close. Ty kept an eye on them, knowing if they moved into a formation too much, the wolves would not get a strike. However, elk weren't all that coordinated, and would attempt to split in schools when they could. Of course, that is when a wolf would pick a baby or a sickly elk to kill, after all, the easier meals are the meals to go for.

ooc:

Dual songs rang out seeking the ears of any and all around that were in the vicinity. Zynex was one such creature, prowling through the meadow for hide or tail of fodder to feast upon. The scent of the antlered cows and young were strong on the winds as they wafted into her flared nostrils and coaxed her maw to salivate with their mouthwatering scent. Her stomach churned silently with hunger and the predator proceeded her prowl through the tall grasses and heavy fog.

Though she had heeded the call, her voice was silent given her proximity to the herd. Her rusted frame was pressed closer to the ground to be disguised by the pre-winter foliage, her paws struck the ground soundlessly as she advanced. Zynex knew little about hunting in groups, but she was well equipped to take down the smaller prey all her own. In the time exiled from her pack, she had dealt with the hardships of hunting and learned from her amateur mistakes. Trial and error and time without a meal harnessed her skills and trained her to become a better huntress. But though her communitive skills were lacking, what she knew would do for now. She trusted instinct to guide her later.

A lupine scent touched her nose so close it was startling but enveloped around it was the scent of the Valley. Her tail wagged encouragingly and softly she growled, keeping her voice low but high enough to ascend the clatter of bone and hooves. In the fog, it was difficult to see, but a sliver of bright orange was enough to confirm that someone was there with her, waiting as she. She positioned her large bodice closer to the frigid ground, ease into a closer proximity of the young elk.

Moonlit eyes danced through the fog, expecting to see other patches of wolven pelts but within the thick mass, the orange coat was all she could see at a distance. But that was enough. Leave the others to be in disguise. Her self-proclaimed mission was sort; she crept toward a child as the herd became unnerved and parted…

Angel heard Tys howl and replied to it with her own and sending it out that anyone was welcome to join her. Upon remaining silenced another femme joined with Ty as she could smell and soon Angel made her way around to greet them. "There is an older on the opposite side with a limp. I rather not take out the younger for they will continue the numbers, but I thought perhaps that would be our easiest shot." Angel spoke as she kept her focus on the elk before them. Angels resolve and focus soared through the roof as she focused on what lied before her and not the future issues that lied before her. Angel waited to see if others would arrive and then allowed the elk to calm down quietly to make their hunt that much easier. She watched the brown femme creep closer and Angel hoped that the herd would not be spooked, but if they were those that wished to join would just have to hop in it seemed.

Then the inevitable happened. The young elk child let out a shriek and caused the others to run. Dashing off in her halfling form Angel made her way to the older one in hopes the others would follow. Dirt was flung out behind her as she curved her way to the older elk who was on the other side of the herd. She leaned her body to the right so she could make the turn without having to trip and fall and soon enough she was on the elks heels snapping at her feet to separate her from the rest. The old elk cow with a limp attempted to kick out and Angel just ducked and was missed by merely inches but it made her back off some until the others could catch up to her and aim where they needed to. Angel kept her pace at a sustainable one and made sure she did not hook back up with the rest of the herd.

Listening to Angel's judgment on the elk, Ty nodded. It made sense to go after the old elk, after all she wasn't going to live much longer anyway. His eyes flicked back between the old elk with a limp and the young elk. Although the young one would most likely be easier to catch, the older elk would provide much more meat for the three of them, they just had to make a team effort to bring them down. Both Ty and Angel were in halflng form, but an elk would still be able to overpower them if they did not work together to take the creature down. Even an elder elk can be a challenge for a pack of wolves, which is why middle age male elk are usually not on the menu, the large beasts can gore a wolf and crush bones, truely despite it's rather dumb look it is no pushover.

However, it was then when they all heard the elk screech, such a horrid sound the beasts made, it was like hearing metal nails grated against a chalkboard. Ty for one winced at it's annoying call, he'd never cared to them, but he had to bear it in order to get a meal. When Angel took off, Ty followed in suit, but not before barking to the other wolf "Hey! New wolf! Run towards it's left flank! Me and angel will push the older elk towards you and into the forest away from the others!"

Ty would in turn burst off at the far right, intending to turn the elk back towards the forest. While he did that, he cut off the older elk's hope of attempting to return towards the pack, and again making a turn towards the forest. Hoping Zynex was now running in a similar formation, Ty began to pursue the elk, now hoping the other two were in good position to triangulate the old elk's position, closing in on it's impending doom.

So soon the succulent flesh of the young one would fill her mouth with its sweet, warm blood and the pains of hunger would subside for a while. The she-wolf looked forward to this, more than the hunt itself. The heard became skittish, starting its drift away from their grazing position and teetering on the edge of their hooves, prepared to run. A doe stampeded for her child, a single body in the herd cried out in alarm and then the world became hectic. The predator’s ears were upright and bent forward in the instant they started to run about, the calls of the hidden wolves bombarded her acute sense and without a look for conformation, she obliged.

Time was of the essence, a limping fool was already making a break for the herd, its speed hindered severely, but still it was able to move. A dart of rust cut through the overgrowth, eyes direct on the prey. Its bellows were deafened, her ears slammed against her skull to eliminate sound and drag as she speed toward it. Limbs working simultaneously to bring her closer to the creature’s end. She closed in upon the elk toward its left flank, fangs pre-parted and ready for its head to turn and its front to be exposed. She feared little of the creature’s hooves. She believed her agility was well suited to avoid any serious casualties, but she was not a fool to spring before ready. The beast needed its sights on the forest.

Zyenx lingered back for an instant, letting the dumb beast believe she had given up and only two were on its hide now. She swung wide, still in pursuit and charging on all cylinders, then raced for its left flank once more. Heavy paws were surprisingly light, long limbs working their fullest to close the distance. Her maw still opened again, dripping with hunger and lust for its flesh, she pressed forward again, snapped in front of the creature from its left and snapped her fangs for its chest. She trusted the other two to follow through with some kind of ploy to down the beast of their own volition, but for now, she would keep it distracted until hell rained down upon it in claws and fangs.

Angelique saw the movement of the two and kept her silence to a maximum. They had spotted her target and made the necessary movements to take it down. Now the old one took its turn left to run from the wolves which proved to have failed miserably. Soon enough Angel was on her like a ton of bricks and aimed for her injured leg to disable her more. A howl and scream came from it as Angel bit her leg and broke it in two places. That was enough to make the doe fall but not before she aimed her foot right in her face.

Angel snarled at the old one and bit at her other leg which made that one break too. Seeing as the elk was still trying to run surprisingly Angel allowed the time to back up some knowing there was no chance now for the elk to survive and allowed the other two to get a hit in it or two. Soon enough Angel sped forward again and made her way to the shoulder of the old one and bit down while shaking her head making her shoulder become disabled.

Once she tasted blood on her tongue it only fueled her fire for blood more. Her eyes became narrowed and her stomach howled for more as she continued her rampage on the old one. Her shrieks and cries could be heard from the others who were now too far off to help or even care. She was done for. Her days had been numbered by three guardians of Hell.

At this point, the elk must have known it was a goner, it was separated from the herd, on it's own, with three youthful, strong, lethal wolves on it's tail, but it refused to give up, it still ran with the wounds in it. Ty respected that in the old beast, he respected that in every creature he killed for the sake of his own hunger but nevertheless, this was how nature worked, and Ty wouldn't want it any other way. His stomach rumbled as he got closer to the beast, his taste for the creature's blood caused him to salivate as he neared the elk's flank.

He could see now that Angel had made some good dents in the elk, biting at it's wounded leg and gnawing at it's shoulder. The beast was slowing ever more, to be honest, they wouldn't have to do too much more to bring the elk down, it was already bleeding out, and at this rate, it would simply collapse from it's own blood loss to suffer a painful, agonizing death. But Ty was not one who enjoyed watching a creature suffer, one who did not deserve it anyway, and this hulking mass of fur deserved a death as quick and painless as he could make it, and due to it's already slowed pace, that wouldn't be too hard. All it would take was a few well placed shots, and the elk would meet it's end, and become the feast that the three death-dealers here would sustain themselves upon.

It took a minute for Ty to begin placing his shot, the one shot he would make, the one shot he would need to make. Angel had already done so much that all he needed to do was temporarily slow the elk enough for the other two to pounce upon the creature and end it's struggle. His agile yet powerful frame was now neck and neck with the elk, and he could hear it's agonized breaths, each one more pained then the last, blood now leaking from it's mouth, it was in poor shape, very ready to die, and if it wasn't running, Ty would assume at this point it wanted to die, but it's tiny brain could only tell it to keep running, to keep trying to live, although somewhere it knew it was over, it's natural instinct told it to keep running. Now slightly ahead of the beast, Ty figured it was time to stop this charade of a chase and finally end this furry herbivore's suffering.

Lining up the shot all the muscles coiled as Ty twisted his body into the crouching position, aiming directly at this neck, and with all his might he pushed off the ground and onto the elk's upper back. His claws sunk into the beast's upper shoulders, granting Ty a place to hold onto as the creature slowed it's advance again, shrieking its awful elk shrieks in pain and terror of being caught, but it still kept running, which at this point was more of a stumble. to try and slow it more, Ty sunk his teeth down on the nape of the elk's neck, biting until the taste of the animal filled his mouth, the red liquid leaking out from between his fangs. Now the elk had slowed to almost a walk, yet still trying to fight them, desperately trying to shake Ty off of it. Although Ty was losing grip, he knew it was over, this halt of the beast would be enough for the one of other wolves to make the killing blow, ending the elk's life and beginning their well-earned feast.

ooc:Big Grin Good job all!

The end…oh the sweet end was nigh for this lumbering fool, gasping for breath as tooth and claw rend flesh from muscle and spilled boiling essence upon the frigid ground. A bubbling spring of rubies was made from the cavity dug into its breast and with a final gasp, fangs of the ginger male latched onto its neck and it was stilled, accepting the inevitable. It death sealed, it form subdued. And it was in this instance that she struck. She dropped from the elk’s chest and darted around for its front, the beast, so wounded could only bellow its dying breath to the herd watching in wonder. Their calls reaching out in mourning for their fallen comrade….and the demons’ meal. Powerful jaws sprang for the throat, the driving momentum shook the flesh beneath its jaws as she clamped down tightly, squeezing with iron force until there was the snap of the windpipe, and a blood reward was her prize. Exquisite. Zynex ripped her muzzle from the beast, carrying with it a mouthful of flesh and gore sweet to the tongue and still warm with the heat of the struggle. A sensual shiver coursed the length of her spine.

She sauntered left as the elk was crippled down to its knees and effectively to its side with belly exposed and ready for the slaughter. Her mouth already filled, she inched from the quarry, excitement in her eyes as she waited for either of the two to have their way with the kill before she was inclined to fill her stomach. There would certainly be enough for the trio, a just reward for well placed teamwork and effort. It was much better than a solitary kill of a gimpy fawn.

The russet gobbled her portion without shame, wagging her tail in mirth from the delicacy that was the Valley’s prey. As tradition of her prior family entailed, she lifted her muzzle to the air and raised a victorious cry to the misted sky. This fallen meat was they own, and their efforts were about to be rewarded.

Angel saw the other two begin to hold it down as it continued to yelp, cry and shriek for help which was no longer available. Soon enough Angel rushed at the belly and ripped in with her claws and pulled out the liver and heart claiming it for her own. With one final shriek the elk had died and all was silent. Angel growled and snarled before lifting her head and howling to the skies with Zynex, though she had not properly met her yet, and followed suit with her tones and voice crying to the skies their victory and the meal they would share together as a pack.

The moment she silenced herself was the moment she ripped into the elk and began tearing at the good cuts of the meat but making sure she saved some for the others. She wanted the others to eat along with her and not let her eat first. They took this kill down together and that was how it should be treated. No feral wolf traditions in her mind. Here, they were a family and this their dinner table so in her mind she thought they would all eat at the same time, but let a wolf to their own traditions they have. Angel soon ripped a good chunk off of the elk and began ripping at it hungrily. It had been a few days since she had a good meal and now was starving for it.

Agreed! that was quite fun! I think I'll be backing out of this thread for story reasons.

Once the creature was dead, Ty stood back as the other wolves let out their chorus of victory, and Ty only followed in suit. Although his howl was not in bloodlust, not in aggression, but his howl was one of acceptance. The now dead beast put up a good fight for it's age, and to that Ty could only respect the beast for it's resistance. However, wolves had to eat, and meat was a necessity, so Ty accepted that this was how it must be. The rest of the heard stumbled away from the pack of wolves who had now claimed a part of their group as it's next meal. The young had been sheltered in the middle while the strong males now protected the perimeter, in case the wolves intended to get seconds.

However, the old elk was more then enough food for the trio, and Ty was quick to dig in. He began by tearing away at the creature's stomach area, as that was the place where the most succulent, juicy meat was hidden. He tore off some chunks for himself and chewed with a hasty hunger that had surprisingly came on rather quickly after the kill. His eyes quickly darted around to the other two wolves, then back to the meal. He had hunted with neither of these wolves, but he could only think of how impressed he was with their ability. Angel, who he had considered a healer and nothing more, proved herself to be a very talented hunter when she put her mind to it. As for the other wolf, the one he could not name, she had ended up being a powerful hunter as well, both had done more than an efficient job in taking down the old creature. Truly he would have to remember this in the future.
