Private, 300+

It had been a little while since she had seen his father’s mother’s sister, and so he decided that for once he could be the one taking some initiative. From the cupboard in his room he found the bag that he and Susquehanna had filled with various objects used for medical purposes. There were several needles of different sizes and lengths with the obligatory threads in a separate pouch within the bag. There were pieces of clean cloth, a limited collection of medical herbs -- all given to him by Susquehanna along with several seeds so that he could try to revive Colibri Haki’s garden and more when spring arrived. There was also a rare, intact plastic bottle filled with a strong smelling liquid that rapidly killed off the most common bacteria wherever it was applied. Purified alcohol had the same abilities, and the liquid’s smell was quite similar to that of vodka.

Once he had everything he needed the boy quickly left the house and jogged in the direction of Aniwaya. It was good to get out of the house. Alexey had brought home a child the day before, and he actually found the little thing a bit disturbing. He was not one to judge though, for he knew that he had been a rather strange child as well. He wondered what thoughts moved behind those sapphire orbs of the puppy called Night. Travelling to Aniwaya took a large bite of his free time. It was the pack furthest away from Dahlia. Perhaps he would spend the night if allowed, but the boy had started off early and the day was not gone by the time the subtle scent of Aniwaya reached his sensitive nostrils. As he reached the well marked borders he lifted his face to the sky and called out for his teacher and mentor.

It had been a couple months since Hanna had been very far out of AniWaya. She had traveled to the borders and back but something always seemed to pull her back to the tribe's village before she went far. The last point from which she'd left the chain link fence behind her was in October, when she had gone to Halifax and found the little apothecary's store. She had not explored it much, though, as Kaena had approached her, torn and bloodied, and called in a favor to her. Hanna had not asked, and the coyote woman had not volunteered information. The medic had prescribed some minor antidotes -- comfrey, willow bark for pain -- and been on her way.

In the time between then and the present, Hanna had come to terms with the fact that she was expecting, had had the child, and now was wrestling with the idea of carrying her off to other packs. On the one hand, since Catherine's disappearance, there were no other young pups. Perhaps Dahlia, her main destination, or Cour des Miracles, where she sort of planned, a little, to stop off, would have youngsters for her nearly a month old daughter to play with. She was not moving perfectly yet, but the little one would learn quicker with those near her age to play with, instead of only adults.

Hanna had finally made up her mind to go ahead and leave when a voice called out from the borders. She was not sure who it would be, but the company would be welcome. She tied Désirée's sling across her chest, where the child seemed to love to ride, and walked out toward the stables with a spring in her step. She had taken to riding Gali often, and decided at that moment that she would take the mare with her, if permitted. Hoisting herself up, forgoing both saddle and bridle, Hanna squeezed her calves against Galilahi's sides, moving her up into a canter. The distance was not far at that rate of speed, and before long Hanna could see a chocolate form on the fenceline.

She waited until she was nearer before she broke into a smile; while she could not think of a conceivable reason for Haku to visit her, she would not have written it off as impossible, but the lovely lavender eyes of her nephew were strikingly different from his father's and set him apart from all others, at least as far as she knew of. Reining the paint mare in using a lock of her mane, Hanna dismounted and made her way to her nephew. As she moved, she spoke to him. "Conor! Hello, what a pleasant surprise! What brings you to AniWaya?" Belatedly she noticed the canvas bag so reminiscent of hers, left inconveniently at home next to the door. The woman had been in such a rush to answer she had not thought of it. "Here for a lesson?" Hanna beamed; she was pleased that Conor had shown an interest in healing.

Speak, think, act

They had never settled an exact date for their next lesson. It had been Conor’s heart that eventually had screamed out in frustration and demanded more knowledge of how to save lives. He had already been confronted with minor injuries and cuts already. Being as fresh as he was with this knowledge he did not feel secure when he passed judgements on the topic. He silently feared something horrible happen now – his demonic father being the new alpha of Dahlia de Mai and everything. He was not Dahlia’s medic, but rumours had somehow spread somewhat and he feared they would eventually come to him with larger problems and he knew that he needed better and more training. Details needed repetition and he needed new knowledge to find its way to his memory. He knew where his black furred aunt lived and a visit was long overdue anyway. Now he was standing at the borders, wordlessly pleading for her to be present in the lands and close enough to hear his primitive call for her assistance. The female was kind and understanding and there was no fear that he would be bothersome with his presence. What caused worry to ripple through his body was the fact that he had not seen her lately and he worried that there was something going on – something wrong. He worried easily and sincerely cared for the individuals that helped give his life a form. There were so deserving of his gratitude and Hanna was one of them.

Eventually the sound of running hooves beating into hard packed ground sounded in his golden tipped ears before they swivelled back against his skull in instant discomfort. While he had heard all the usual rumours about wolves riding horses he had yet to see this in person. The horse and its rider came into sight and he stepped backwards several feet as his stress levels rose with the horse’s approach. Horses were food and their hooves were dangerous and deadly. He did not believe in this treatment. His books told stories about humans capturing and forming their fellow creatures instead of finding peace and balance. Was this what was slowly happening to the canine kind now? The horse seemed to obey the woman and he knew instinctively that this was wrong. Wolves were not supposed to use prey as anything else but prey. They had strong legs and endurance, they were made for a life full of physical challenges and this was not right. The boy’s ears stayed against the silky fur on his golden skull as Susquehanna, his aunt, somehow seemed to tell the horse to halt and then spoke. The young boy had troubles concentrating on the words she spoke. He forced an untrue smile to display across his face and dipped his maw in silent greeting. The woman’s voice had already continued and it seemed his reason for being here today was already guessed and revealed. ”Yes,” was all the young boy could say, sizing the horse up and down with clear unease.
