mrr, the backstory's a little weak, i'm ironing it out. |:

The boy was small, but he was not afraid. A lesser child would have been, but Damien was confident as he stepped, half-stumbling over his unsteady paws. He was young but already proud, unable to hide the bravado of puphood from spilling out of his electric eyes. Although the pup wouldn't be able to revel in the oddity of his situation, it was unusual. Three month old pups were not often wandering about. Three month pups don't just tumble into the waiting arms of packs. Damien hadn't been unaided, naturally, in his short venture.

His mother had apparantly been struggling with some sort of decision. He hadn't quite gotten the hang of words yet, so he bit at her ankles, getting her attention. "Goin' whar?" He asked her, gnawing her toes. She shook him off impatiently. "You'll see," she told her pseudo-child. It wasn't for him to know what she was thinking about.

Damien stood up on his hind legs and fell backwards, scowling at the sky. His mum was gone now and he didn't know why he was here, exactly, but he didn't wonder where she had gone. Most unusually of all, the child didn't care. The thought of death or abandonment never crossed his mind. After all, Damien, in his mind, was immortal and untouchable.

Heyy, welcome back Big Grin

The child seemed alone when the Lierre’s path eventually brought him to it. The brown figure was a sudden contrast from all the brilliant white. The Soul male’s golden form slowly closed in on the child, glancing around as he did so – looking for the child’s parents. Lavender eyes failed to discover a larger form that the small child could belong to. Once close enough for words to reach the puppy, Conor’s pace slowed down noticeably, as he did not wish to scare the child. ”Hello, there.” he gently greeted and slowed his pace to a stop. A little adventurous soul, perhaps. There were several packs that the brownish puppy could belong to, though he realized that its coat spoke of none of ‘Souls currently existing packs. ”Where are your parents?” the young male asked now, hoping this was not what it looked like.

hihi. (: ohm changed his story a teensy bit, he's not 'varra's son xD half-brother to night through night instead.

The child's attention had been elsewhere, caught up in the antics of smaller animals he had yet learned to crush, when the male's voice caught his ear. Turning his sepia-toned head he gave the older boy a once-over, a slight haughtiness flashing in his eyes before fading back to a more innocent expression. 'Naht 'portant,' Damien mimicked the words once spoken to him by his mother when he asked where she was going. He looked around then, frowning slightly as the realization that he didn't know sunk it. It quickly faded. After all, there was someone else here right now and he didn't have the facilities necessary to consider where someone might be if they weren't within visible sight of him. M'Damien. Damien Van-yer,' he introduced himself, the way his mother had told him to. 'You?' The child asked, squinting slightly at the golden-furred boy.

He watched the child; the small framed soul on its own in a scenery that seemed tranquil and harmonic, but so easily could offer death to those not fortunate. He wondered why the little being thought absent parents was insignificant. Young ones should be closely connected and truly fond of the adults that brought them up. Conor did not believe in a high percentage of broken homes. Eyes searched for adult frames over and over but there were none. All he could discover was the quickly fading scent of someone that would not come back. The young male’s jaws tightened in silent sorrow, for this was not how such a young life should be treated. Ears perked forwards as the child introduced itself and he offered a sad smile, wanting to reach out to offer the child warmth. ”I am Conor Soul from Dahlia de Mai, the pack that lives here.” he explained with his calm, comfortable voice. ”Will they come back for you?” he now had to ask. He ached for the child to answer him with a sincere “yes”, but knew that this would likely not be the case. It was too much of a coincidence. This was not the first, nor would it be the last time that a homeless child would appear by a pack’s borders.

He could pick up on the atmosphere, little hints of sadness that seemed to follow the golden boy, but he didn't understand them. Too young to properly digest his situation, Damien shook his head, moving a little closer to the older one. "Connah," he repeated slowly, not even bothering to mimic the name of the pack. After all, what was a pack? Instinctively, he understood it was a safe word, a good word, something that meant security, but he couldn't, per say, define it. The child considered the question. "Dunno," he replied, one ear flicking lazily. "O-" he started, remembering the snippet of conversation his mother had had with him. "Um," he tried, "Mum says..." he tried to recall her wording (at the time it had seemed fairly trivial: how would he know he would be quizzed about it?) "'Stah 're an' be good.'" His tiny voice went a slight bit higher in mimic of his mother's voice. Yeah. Stay here and be good, or something like that. Whatever that meant. Damien smiled at the older boy, growing bored with the conversation quickly.

The young male’s smile widened for a moment as his own name was repeated by the small soul as it scurried closer. The rest of the boy’s words only encouraged the sadness to conquer his facial expression. Stay here and be good, was that what the child was saying? How the brown puppy could smile so cheerily was beyond him, really. Did it understand that mother had abandoned it, perhaps forever? The Soul male nodded, for there was little else to do than to handle the situation best as possible. It was weird how children started to pop up now when he had moved back in with Alexey again. In a way he believed it helped both of them, because children demanded attention, food and warmth and it was harder for the adult and the one soon to be to be alone together for a longer period of time. Yes, this was good, for he needed to get over her and go on with his young life.

Conor squatted down and shook some of the sad expression in his face. ”Hey, want to come back to my place? It’s cold out here and I’m sure there’s a meal if you’re hungry, Damien. There’s even another puppy there for you to play with!” Now he had no idea if Night would dignify this pup with even the smallest of glances, but he wanted to get this child away from the cold and take this up with his father later. He knew that he would be summoned at one point anyway and he could not imagine any drastic punishment for taking in a mere child. It was more likely that Haku would have made a scene for being summoned only because of a lost child. Conor did not want to take any risks. Conor had a caring heart, but his father did not.

The emotions of the other male were beyond Damien's perception, but had he noticed them they probably wouldn't have changed his mood in the least. He was most likely going to grow up with the emotional availability of a common walnut: whether this would be to his advantage or disadvantage was not yet determined. Connor spoke, reminding the child of his presence, and Damien stared up at him, considering what he offered. He was pretty hungry, now that he thought about it. And who could turn down free food and warmth? 'Okay, he said, and only then registers the second part of that statement. Another puppy, like him, eh? He blinks, and then disregards that statement, the prospect of another his age neither pleasing nor displeasing enough for him to dedicate energy to think about. 'Okay,' he repeated, fixing his electric green gaze on the paws of the older, golden boy, to follow him wherever he was being lead.

The response from the child was not overly enthusiastic, but at least he agreed to come back home and be taken care of. Although he had limited experience with puppies from a guardian’s point of view – having just grown up and gotten into the adult ranks and all, he knew that some children could be quite stubborn and decide to be a pain. When the boy said yes Conor’s smile widened and he nodded along encourage. Golden tail wagged rhythmically as the young Dahlian male let a last glance travel across the empty winter scenery before he turned and gave a small toss with his head to indicate that the child was to follow him. He was not looking forward to see Alexey’s face when he came to her with the orphan, but there was no way he would leave the child on its own.
