The timber wolf flicked his red ears and shifted his weight, anxious to move. There was going to be something for them to do, and gosh darn it he needed to see what the rest of the territory looked like. Letting his tongue loll out of his mouth, the wolf found there was no need for any further formality. They were going to need to find shelter and it wasn’t going to be any fun if they were all pissed off and grumpy around each other. Besides, as Kai saw it, they were now friends and by his definition that meant he needed to try and keep the mood light. They were fighting a war as it stood, so it was stupid for their to be fighting in the ranks. Haku was the boss, and anyone above them had the right to order them around. In Kai’s mind, that was all that mattered—the strong would lead and those below them would follow.

Sic’s voice brought a dark glimmer into Kai’s blue eyes, and he spoke with another short laugh. “Yeah, maybe.” He could picture it now—big bad Sic falling out of the sky like a bird with a broken wing. The ideas was not only ridiculous, but it was hilarious. Amused by the idea, he laughed again, and shook his head. With the older man following, Kai began moving towards where the mass of scents told him to do. “Oh yeah, I didn’t sleep that well either." They probably all sleep in the same area, given by how many of the scents were female and piled atop one another. Probably Haku kept the women together to be safe, it seemed like something that would be smart given they were at war and all. “Hey where are you from, Sic? S’not from around here, huh? You don’t seem like it.”

There was nothing wrong with following someone stronger than him; Sicarus had been proven the weaker of the pair, and now Kai had to lead him. Sic followed at the other wolf's side, clearly dominated and overpowered by the younger man. The sounds of their footsteps were in perfect accord with one another, but unlike most wolves, Sicarus did not follow directly behind the other male to leave only one set of footprints. They weren't outside of the borders anyway—who cared if they left only one set? Sicarus didn't really think about things like a normal wolf, perhaps due to his messed-up wiring, perhaps due to his strict upbringing. The Italian wolf shrugged at the other man's comment; by his figuring they should be lucky they had a place to sleep at all within Haku's domain. The beige-colored subleader had extended his kindness to them, stooping to allow little peons like them in his pack.

The Gazon's stride had to be stretched some to accomodate for the other wolf's gait, but as he was in Optime form and the other canine was in Lupus, this was not so difficult. The werewolf had to motor more quickly to keep up with the other canine, and his endurance was not so great in this form. Slightly winded, he cocked his head at the other canine's question, forming a smirk on his tawny-furred muzzle. "I fell from the sky, remember?" he said shortly. Remembering being stuck to the ground, the Gazon winced, folding his ears back. He'd rehearsed the story plenty of times—he was a simple southlander, headed up from Texas. There was plenty of time on the boat to think over his story, after all. He figured most people wouldn't know the difference between Spanish and Italian anyway, right? Classic Sicarus—underestimate everything. "I came from down south, actually. A place called Texas," he said, confident this large area was vague enough. He'd seen worldmaps before, and Texas seemed to be the largest state anywhere near this place, and it was also far enough away to be an unlikely origin for anyone else around here.

There was an abnormality in Sicarus (his size notwithstanding), though Kai couldn’t figure out exactly what it was. Maybe had he the attention span for it, he might have been able to pick up on the obvious signs. The fact he could neither track, nor know how to fight against a four-legged wolf, these were apparent. Even in Kai’s pack, where shifting was rare and only done by the arrogant and flaunty, like his mother, there was still an education about how to deal with lupus bodies. Still, Kai didn’t think much on the matter, and was distracted by any further debate on this manner when Sicarus echoed the fact that he had indeed fallen from the sky. Glad that his companion thought it funny, Kai grinned from ear to ear and his feet picked up, making his walk more into a prance then anything else.

Uneducated, Kai had no idea what Texas was, much less where it was. “Oh that’s cool,” he offered, not having any real opinion on the matter. Still, he wanted to be friendly and he wanted to know anything important about Sicarus if there was anything to know. Unfortunately, Texas didn’t sound all that exciting, and he dismissed the idea with a snort. “You just get bored or something? What are you doin’ all the way up here?” Down south suggested that Sic was from far away, which was not unheard of. Kai was from an area further north, but west as well, and he had been lucky to find the passage that led him south and into Souls. Luckier still, he realized now, that he had managed to get past the coyotes before they had spotted him. If they had managed to find a lone wolf wandering too close, man it would have be over for him real quick.

Although he looked just like a wolf, there was something very wrong with Sicarus. He did not act as a normal wolf should have; he was strange, cultured, and almost utterly useless in the open wilderness. The Italian wolf had expected some degree of civilization up here. He'd actually landed in Freetown, but he decided that it was too busy of a port for him to remain. There were canines from numerous different places around the world; the possibility he could be recognized was too great of one he could take. If just so much as one canine recognized him his particular region of Italy, that was it—he'd be on the next boat home, tied up and starved until he came to face with the woman he'd decided it was a good idea to rape. He still couldn't get over that; he had sullied himself by laying with woman, and he still felt dirty because of it.

The werewolf was not in accord with his wild surroundings; he was far more used to living on city streets and in a quiet monastery than in the open wilderness. He could hunt for himself, but not at all well. The werewolf was unsuccessful in most of his hunting attempts, and since he'd left the town to travel north he'd been very, very hungry. The why was a question Sicarus had not really thought about—he'd not been smart enough to make up any details about his fake childhood or his false journey to this land other than that it had taken him a long time and that it was a pain in the ass, so this question took him somewhat by surprise. Fiery orange eyes looked to Kai for a moment, confused. "Isn't that what all young wolves do?" he asked, sounding almost uncertain about it. He didn't know—some of his brothers had been expected to remain within the monastery's walls for their entire lives. Others were permitted to travel outside of its boundaries, but all in all, they were to have suffered quire a restrictive life, indeed.

There was something wrong with his companion, but there was something wrong with Kai too. He was entirely unsatisfied with life, to the point that he had decided to live without any regard for anyone but himself. The weak were meant to follow, and the strong meant to leave. This was why he had turned against his family, though they had turned against him first. Had he been just a little faster, had his whore bitch of a mother not taken it upon herself to save that pansy ass son of hers, Kai would have been content to lay his brother into the dirt and make him suffer for all the bullshit he had gone through. It was unfair that because Kai didn’t look like their bastard father he was second best, when he was clearly the stronger and smarter of the two. Arrogant, selfish brat of a brother, oh badly Kai hated that little prick.

So it was best, really, that he had gone out on his own. Now with the scars of bravery (oh yeah, two wolves couldn’t take him down, noooo way) on his side and the ego in his walk, Kai had become an entirely new monster. He would not only serve under Haku Soul, and do whatever he asked, but he would thrive. A dark star burned in his heart, one that had existed since his mother had looked at him cross and told him he would always be second best. Now, though, he bowed his head to someone who mattered. Not a whore who slept her way up the ranks. Frustrated by this thought, finding the memory all too fresh, Kai’s eyes once again shifted to that darker shade of blue before he was drawn out by the sudden confusion in his companion’s voice. Turning his head up, eyes wide, the boy studied Sicarus’ face to see if he was serious. Apparently he was.

“I guess so. I did, so I think it’s gotta be normal.” A shrug, dismissing the idea as frivolous. Of course it was normal—Kai thought he was a pretty normal guy, even if he did have the need to establish dominance and even if he followed anyone who proved themselves superior without question. But in his mind, that was normal. It had to be. Lowering his nose towards the ground, tail a black tipped flag behind him, Kai trotted along after the mass of scents. Soon, the path became much wider, and not long after that, he found himself staring at a peculiar building in the distance. Unfamiliar with human objects, the boy stopped suddenly, uncertain of what he was seeing. This was apparent in his body language, which had tensed up. Kai had lived in the wild all his life, and to see a house now after not seeing anything like it for two years was somewhat of a culture shock for the tawny wolf. Puzzled, his face turned up to Sicarus, wondering if he knew what it was they were now seeing.

Sic had been one of the lucky ones in the monastery; he was permitted to wander beyond the fenced outside. Perhaps that had been a mistake of the other brothers, trusting Sic with that special permission. The tawny-furred werewolf had certainly given them reason to second-guess themselves after a while—there were rumors and whispers that Sicarus had begun to sneak alcohol in for the younger canines of the bunch. It was entirely untrue; Sic had never been drunk in his life. He'd tasted real alcohol once, and he found it disgusting. It was only ceremonial wine, and only a taste of it at that, for Sicarus.

The other Gazon's answer to his question satisfied Sicarus, who had no idea if it really was normal wolf behavior or not. He had come so far out of necessity; he had needed to put as many miles between himself and that woman as possible, for his own physical safety and his mental health, too. Being anywhere near her made it possible for him to fall for temptation again, it made him think of her too much, and it also increased the possibility that one of her people wound find him and drag him, kicking and screaming, back to her to face punishment. No, he could not have that. If he ever saw her again, it would be for his vengeance. He'd slit her throat for tempting him beyond celibacy and into sexual torment. Never again.

They continued on in silence for some way, with Kai up ahead and Sicarus behind. The werewolf was, of course, content to follow, though he didn't allow too much distance to separate between the pair. Sicarus was usually in good accord with those he chose to follow. The other wolf's sudden pause drew the Gazon's attention, and he trotted quickly up to the other wolf's side, peering on the building with a bright eye. "Oh, a house! That is a good place to live," he said. The exclamation was excited, almost childish—it had been a while since Sic had seen a human home in such good condition. Most of what lay between here and the town was wasteland, already too damaged by nature to be of any use as a living arrangement. The wolf swept forward a bit, forgetting his place for a moment in his excitement to find a comfortable place to live. He bounded up the stairs and onto the porch, shading his eyes to look into the front window.

The building, or the house as it was now called, was an entirely new phenomenon to Kai. He was not afraid of it (because he feared so little, convinced he was nothing less then immortal in the ego maniac way of a young boy) but it did seem…peculiar. Setting his jaw and frowning, Kai watched as his older companion abandoned the weight that had been making him seemingly miserable, and bounded forward like a boy to his mother. Well, not mother given that Sic didn’t have one (whatever that was about). Still, if his friend was going to go investigate the place, Kai wasn’t going to be left behind. Especially if Sic thought that he was a coward—oh that wouldn’t do, not at all.

Picking up his feet and moving towards the building, Kai put one foot gingerly on the first step, then realizing it would hold his weight, clambered up ungracefully, unfamiliar with the way the steps were set up. Once on the porch, he followed his friend’s display, and reared up on his hind legs. Both paws hit the edge of the window, and he stuck his nose against the cold, dirty glass only to find there was nothing to see much from the amount of dust that had clung to the glass. Irritated by this fact, Kai dropped back down onto the porch, both ears twisting nervously as the wood creaked under his weight. Still, he wasn’t that worried. Sic didn’t seem to be, and Kai refused to let him see any trace of doubt in the blue eyed boy.

Instead, he lifted both brows, cocked his head and waited impatiently for his companion to do whatever it was he needed to do with the house. There didn’t seem to be any way to get in.

Kai seemed entirely confused with the concept of the house, which Sicarus would have laughed at had the other canine not proven his now-obvious dominance. Leaders weren't supposed to get laughed at; it was disrespectful, and Sicarus was not allowed to commit such an act. The werewolf couldn't exactly see the details of the house's innards, but what he saw didn't appear to be too worrisome; there didn't appear to be any giant holes in the floor or anything like that. The werewolf grinned at his companion, an exceedingly rare show of emotion, and grabbed at the handle, jiggling it about before twisting it. It was unlocked! What luck. Then again, who would have bothered to lock the door during the apocalypse? With all your neighbors dying around you, there didn't seem to be much point in security.

The werewolf swung open the door, unleashing a musty blast of air from within the home. It was stale but not entirely bad; there must have already been broken windows or cracks in the house somewhere. Sic didn't mind—if the house was infested by mice, raccoons, or any other pesky creatures, it was easy enough for the Luperci to fish them out. It was a quick and easy resource for a meal, in the werewolf's eyes. He stepped inside, admiring the dirty, dusty carpet. It was almost yellow, but at one time it might have been a creamy sort of color, perhaps even off-white. Most everything seemed in place; there was the faint scent of some other canine who had lived here before them, but Sic didn't think they'd be coming back anytime soon. And anyway, who would have evicted Dahlia de Mai's two newest—the most eligible of the bachelors and the most unwilling of the bachelors?

Turning to his companion, the werewolf flourished with one arm, waving his hand at the insides of the house. As much as he was in accord with this house and other human dwellings, his companion did not seem to be. The same could be said where Sicarus and nature were concerned. "What do you think?"

Sicarus grabbed a peculiar looking contraption, made a great amount of noise, and then opened a hole in the wall. Startled, both of Kai’s ears rose to their highest point, and his eyes widened, startled. How in the world had he done such a thing? If Sic had been that strong why didn’t he just best Kai earlier, when they had been roughhousing. Doubly confused, Kai snorted away the musty air and shifted his feet anxiously. When Sicarus went into his newly formed entrance, the tawny wolf hesitated only for a moment and then advance, slowly following the older wolf into the building. While he might not have had any knowledge about the place, Sic didn’t seem worried at all, and this calmed Kai however slightly.

The walls were covered in a fading, peeling wallpaper, and it might have been colorful and decorative at one point but time had destroyed the beauty of the place. Under his feet the peculiar tan grass…snow…whatever it was, sprung strangely, and Kai wasn’t sure if he liked it or not. Lowering his head to investigate further, Kai tried to gather a scent from the carpet only to be summoned once more by the older wolf. His head lifted, and he pulled the corners of his mouth back, showing his discomfort. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” he answered honestly, not thinking it would be wise to lie when his companion clearly knew so much about the place. Slowly, the timber wolf moved into the living room, advancing between a large chair and couch, his side brushing against a wooden coffee table as he stopped to sniff the large object at his right. The couch was leader, and smelled good, and feeling braver now that he knew that whatever this was had to be dead, Kai put his paws on the squishy thing and jumped onto it, startled by not entirely uncomfortable on the soft surface.

By placing his front paws on the back of the couch, he could also look at Sicarus without craning his neck. Behind him, his tail hung in the small gap between the furniture and the table, which itself was sitting directly in front of a fireplace—something Kai would not have recognized, nor realized the importance of as ignorant as he was to the structure and set up of human construction, especially considering this was the first house he had been in.

This house wasn't all that nice—the insides were a little dusty, it sure could have used a thorough cleaning, and Sicarus much preferred the stone walls of the monastery to these flimsy wooden things. He listened intently in the silents and indeed, he could hear the scratchings of little mice. If there was one thing he could do, it was catch mice and rats—there were many times he hadn't been able to steal a solid meal, and he'd subsisted on the rodents of the city instead. Their meat was stringy and there wasn't a lot of it, sure, but after five rats and three or four mice, it was hard to be hungry. The main feeling after that was simply exhaustion; as tiny as they were, the rats and mice were fast, and it did take some energy to actually nab the damn things.

The other canine appeared rather perplexed by the whole setup, craning his head this way and that and sniffing the carpet like he'd actually pick up a scent beyond the bugs and pests that had settled into the house. After a minute Kai hopped up onto the couch and made himself comfortable, peering at Sicarus with those strange, puppyish eyes. Maybe they'd just never changed color. Sic knew he'd had blue eyes at one point; the younger brothers usually did, and eventually they'd turn yellow or brown or something. Before being booted from the monastery for good, Sicarus hadn't ever seen a wolf with blue eyes. At least Kai seemed to be in more accord with the place now; he wasn't smelling everything or gaping around the damn room anymore.

"Well... there are lots of places like this in Texas. Wolves like to live in houses. In Texas," the wolf repeated dumbly, wanting the idea that he was from this mystical Texas place to sink into the wolf's head. If Sicarus was smart, he would have kept mentions of his birthplace to an absolute minimum and hoped the information eventually faded from Kai's head—God forbid Sic ever meet a real Texan, angry that such a soft-accented boy would mock their origin. "Hey, a fireplace," the wolf said, noticing the thing behind Kai. "That's useful," the werewolf said, thinking of cooking—it had been a very long time since he'd had cooked food, and it would certainly help for warmth.

The tawny werewolf trotted over to the fireplace, kneeling in front of it and poking around it with his finger. There did seem to be a fair amount of debris; he supposed they had to just hope that the thing wasn't blocked up with debris from over the years. "Maybe we can break that table or something for wood," the werewolf declared, thinking they had little use for it. With counters and the numerous furniture still lingering around the house, they had all they needed—Luperci tended not to need so much furniture as their human predecessors. Humans seemed absolutely obsessed with their material possessions.

In the moments of silence between them, Kai’s ears swiveled this way and that, hearing the same small foot falls as they scrambled through the house. There was no doubt an infestation of some sort of rodents, but between the two of them getting the small beasts out of the house wouldn’t be a problem. Kai was fast on four legs and Sicarus likely knew how to survive in the wild, so they’d be set for a bit with small meals. Obviously, they would need to hunt—Kai needed the thrill of chasing down his prey, and wouldn’t settle for tiny snacks for long. He was a big wolf, and had to regain the weight he had lost during his travels.

Of his family, Kai had been the only one with blue eyes. His mother’s were brown, and his brother’s were as well. The fact they had never changed had meant something, but in Kai’s world there was nothing mystical, nothing terrible or lurking in the shadows, only the things he could be grounded in. Power and weakness, alpha and omega. Kai knew the laws of claw and fang but knew nothing beyond this. His world was simple, and he liked it this way. As long as he was fed, as long as he could sleep, he would do whatever was asked of him. Kai was content with his life, as long as it was not unsatisfying. Once he gained power, he would hold onto it desperately. Strength was the only thing that kept him alive.

Sicarus tried to explain things again, kept mentioning Texas (whatever that meant) and how he was used to such a place as a house. Pursing his lips, Kai turned his head as the older man walked around the furniture and towards a cave like hole in the wall behind him. The tawny wolf dropped his paws and sat on the couch, surprised that he sank into the thing, but far too interested in what Sic was doing to notice for long. “Sure, whatever,” he said, not knowing anything about the matter to have an informed opinion. While Sicarus might consider Kai the leader, for the moment he was the one that had the upper hand.

Well, this was turning out well. As comfortable as Kai had been on the outside world, all of it had evaporated the moment they'd stepped inside of the house. Sicarus needed someone to direct him and guide him through life; he was nothing without a leader. There was an utter lack of accord within the tawny-furred werewolf without that; it made him strangely nervous without someone to follow behind. Still, his suggestion hadn't gone over too terribly—it wasn't as if Kai had called him a moron for saying something like that, but still... he didn't seem particularly thrilled about it. Sicarus was kind of cold, though, and the thought of a warm, roaring fire made him want to do something about it. He wished he hadn't left his cloak hanging from a tree; it would have at least helped to keep his skinny butt warm.

Motivation and approval were a dangerous thing for Sicarus, who got up to his feet as quickly as he could. The walk over here and keeping up with quick Kai had tired him out somewhat, but now he had a purpose, he had something to do, and someone had (sort of) commanded him to do it. Peering over the table with his sharp orange eyes, the wolf put his finger to his chin, considering his options for a moment. A normal, sane person might have attempted to find an axe or a similar tool in order to take the table out—not Psycho-rus. The werewolf backed up a few steps and took a flying leap, intending to come crashing down on the table with all of his weight. Boom! He smacked into the center of it, and the legs went crunching down, buckling beneath his weight. Quite suddenly, he was sitting down much closer to the floor, the shattered legs sticking out at extreme, awkward angles—not too unlike he'd been an hour or two prior, flattened out on the ground and beneath the other wolf.

He gave another ridiculous-looking smile to Kai, and got up, picking up the flat top of the table and holding it up, the pair of legs falling from it and hitting the ground loudly. "Hit it with your shoulder," he requested. There was nothing teenaged boys liked to do more than destroy stuff, and it had gotten Sicarus's blood pumping again.

Surprised by the sudden flurry of movement, Kai turned his head to follow the darker wolf, puzzled by what exactly it was he was up to. The way that his companion studied the table suggested he might have had some intelligent idea for breaking the wood apart. Instead, what happened was the Italian (well, Texan, he supposed) wolf took a running leap and brought all of his weight down on the table. The resounding CRACK startled Kai, who jerked as if there was a need for his motion. To his surprise, Sicarus crashed the table under his weight, breaking its legs as easily as if they were twigs.

Kai’s brain then associated the wood under the wolf with sticks, and by this logic, this meant the table itself was not strong and going to break easily. Still, Sicarus weighed more then Kai, and seeing he only managed to break part of it meant that he would be dealing with something stronger. So, when he was asked to finish the job, Kai hopped off of the table and trotted a few feet away. Lowering his body slightly, tensing his muscles, the blue eyed wolf gritted his teeth and let the adrenaline rush through his body.

Like a steel coiled spring, Kai rushed forward, digging his nails into the carpet, forwarding his body with more momentum then expected. He waited until he was just close enough to the dusty target, and then spun his body, throwing his entire weight off the ground and into the wood. There was a loud CRACK, followed by a sudden lack of pressure against his side and then Kai found himself rolling past the now downed Sicarus and along the worn carpet, crashing into a heap against a smaller, taller table, where he found himself dumbfounded and very confused as to what the hell had actually just happened.

Sicarus felt like a regular genuis after breaking the first half of the table. They didn't even have any tools other than their own teeth and claws, and yet here they were, about to start up a fire and everything—well, once they had the rest of the table broken up. Sicarus was actually having fun; he certainly hadn't expected that from the creamy-furred werewolf when they'd first met. Sicarus was quite glad things had turned out in this manner; it was far better than being stuck here alone. He doubted he would have even been able to find the damn house if it weren't for Kai.

The tawny-furred werewolf braced himself for impact, holding onto the piece of wood, angling it toward the other canine. He had no doubts about the fact that Kai could break it at all; they were two strapping young men, if nothing else, they could certainly take out a table. The werewolf held on tightly, waiting for impact—whumphf! Apparently, their actions weren't anywhere near the level of accord that Sicarus had previously thought, for he promptly went flying backwards into the wall, leaving a rather large dent shaped vaguely like a wolf after sliding to the ground.

Groaning slightly, the wolf peered over at Kai, his dazed eyes showing some degree of dizziness. Shaking his head to clear the spins out of it, the werewolf looked in either hand, and found he held two pieces of wood! He gave a snort and stood, shaking his head one more time. "Let's not do that again," he said almost nasally, whining just a bit. At least they'd managed to snap the table into two pieces; now they just had to break the other two. Sicarus wandered over to the stone part of the fireplace, and brought the wood down with a pretty hard smack, snapping it into even smaller pieces. He did the same thing with the other piece. Now they had about six pieces of firewood, enough of a start for a small fire. Sic tossed the pieces into the fireplace, figuring the debris would provide good enough tinder. "Got a light?" he asked the other canine, figuring not. Sure didn't look like Kai had any pockets.

After the initial shock, Kai shook his head and got back on his feet. Even though he had hit the table rather hard, the elasticity of youth provided him with more then enough to spring back without much damage. Now back on his feet, the boy let out a laugh at Sicarus’ apparent displeasure about the incident, eyes bright as he grinned ear to ear. This was fun! He was glad that today had worked out so well, and it only cemented his attachment to the pack further. Of course, being around for one day was almost ridiculous, but Kai was a fool hardy boy and he knew only what was in front of him. Right now, it was a new friend and the possibility of a new life, and he had no desire to throw that away anytime soon.

Trotting over to the fireplace, Kai stuck his head low in order to inspect the contraption. The cave smelled like ash and soot, and he snorted, crinkling his muzzle with displeasure. At the question, he looked up quickly, ears once more rising to a point at the top of his head. “Uh…no. I’ll go look for one,” he said, and then just as quickly trotted off to inspect the rest of the building. Luckily, after traveling down a short hallway, he found himself in the kitchen of the house. Sniffing around, though everything smelled like dust, Kai spent several minutes looking for anything that might resemble what he had seen his former pack mates using when they had made fires. The thick smell of tobacco reached his nose, and recognizing it, Kai turned to the table behind him. After maneuvering a chair out of the way, he reared onto his hind legs and found a used ashtray, and near this, a small box. Recognizing the small container from his youth, the tawny wolf grabbed it in his mouth and then, triumphant, trotted back towards his companion, where he dropped the pack onto the stone around the cave and wagged his tail, pleased with himself. “Will that work?” He asked, believing it would but still unsure, given his lack of experience with the realm of humans.

Matches and lighters were much easier to come by where he'd come from. There were always matches, torches, and candles back at the monastery. Light and warmth were not difficult to come by. Sicarus missed that, but he'd been living on the streets two years by the time he'd come to this place, and in those long years he had amassed some amount of survival skill, though it was far more useful in humanity's ruins than the wilderness. It would take time, but Sicarus would learn and grow, and eventually come to some accord with his new surroundings. He liked Dahlia de Mai; he liked Kai. He really liked Haku. He was a strong man, and the pack needed a strong leader. The coyotes would tremble before their blue-eyed Rosen's might and quiver at the sound of his snarl, and Sicarus and Kai would be there to enforce his threats.

The tawny werewolf waited, tapping his claws impatiently, while the other canine went to fetch some sort of flame. Sic didn't know if a lighter would still work, but he figured matches were the type of thing that didn't typically carry an expiration date. The man turned as the other canine returned, watching as the other canine allowed the pack to fall from his mouth. The tawny werewolf made a slightly disgusted face at the matches, shrugging at the man's question. "Assuming you haven't drooled over them," he said somewhat shortly, shrugging his shoulders.

He picked up the matches, finding them mostly dry, and opened them up inspecting them for just a moment before flicking one expertly along the case, an orange spark of flame licking into the air in a puff of sulphur and stink. As he leaned forward to stick the fire into the hearth, he spoke, a rare question of curiosity rather than anything else: "Why don't you shift? It's more comfortable in your Optime form in the ruins." Just the smallest of suggestions—Kai would be far more useful in that form inside of the house.

At the implication of him drooling all over the matches, a huff escaped Kai’s chest. He had been, as far as he could tell, very dainty while carrying the matches (thinking, subconsciously, of his brother as he pranced back to the living room) back to his companion. Still, Sicarus had a very valid point when it came to the tawny wolf shifting, and a shrug shifted the thick coat on his shoulders, one of the only things he could thank his father for (the other was his size, which had helped him out of many a scrap before). “I don’t like using it,” he answered, blue eyes following the gleam of the flame like a moth. “Where I came from those who walked on two legs did so because they thought it made them better.” Like his mother, who constantly had to primp and fix her long hair, spending hours on it because she thought it made her pretty. Or, even, his brother, who would fret endlessly anytime his pristine coat was marred. Idiots, the both of them.

“I dunno what else you want to do in here,” he said, trotting over to the squishy couch and promptly climbing onto and flopping down on it. Once there, he rolled onto his back, enjoying the sensation of something soft against his body after the night in the small, uncomfortable cave. “I’m about ready for a nap,” he added, chuckling and curling his whiskers up towards his nose. “I’ll check out the rest of the place once I’m done here,” Kai said, shutting his eyes and arching his back, then relaxing. After one semi-scrap, the exploration of the territory, and cracking apart a wooden table, Kai was intending to sleep for at least half an hour before he did anything further in the strange, wooden structure. Furthermore, his showing of the belly, and his willingness to sleep around Sicarus was a sign of trust, which he now had for the orange eyed man. They were new packmates, and as things seemed to work out, now new roommates.

Sic had never been to a place where four legs were more common than two. Cities didn't make for easy Lupus living, and most of the canines who preferred to live that way didn't come into the city very often. It wasn't as if Sic had never seen a four-legged wolf before; that would have been totally stupid, considering he was born as one, but it weirded him the hell out that it seemed most everyone here did prefer their four legs. At Kai's comment Sic almost interjected that perhaps it did make them better, but he thought better of himself. Kai was the leader, after all. Thanks to his first impression Sic had to keep reminding himself of that. "Ah. Well. It does make it easier, so..." the wolf said, trailing off. He wasn't the one to give out the orders; that was Kai's job. Still, Sic could certainly make suggestions about how to make their lives easier. He wasn't a damn robot, after all..

The fire was going nicely; the debris still left in the fireplace from the last Luperci inhabitant had sparked up nicely, and in a few moments they'd have a nice, warm fire. Kai spoke again, and Sic twisted his head to watch as the other man rather unceremoniously ended the conversation by jumping over and onto the couch, promptly shutting his eyes to go to sleep. Sicarus frowned at that, and twiddled his thumbs for a moment, his orange eyes darting over to watch the fire begin to consume the wood of the table. He sighed softly and crept over into the tiny kitchenette, deciding to poke around a bit before laying down. He was kind of tired, too, but he wanted to see what the previous occupant had left behind for them before settling down, so he went about quietly pulling drawers out and opening up cabinets, peering around inside of them for anything good.

Nothing caught his eye, so he returned to the living room, shooting Kai a look. The man was snoring softly, soundly asleep. Sic sighed; perhaps he would come to some better accord with his new roommate when they woke up later. For now, the tawny wolf jumped up into a loveseat, curling up onto himself and fluffing one of the throw pillows for his head, dozing off after only a few comfortable, warm moments.
