Set for tomorrow? :3

It was a beautiful morning. Sonja was always an early riser and it was nothing that ever changed. She did not mind. It gave her a quick start on the day but this day, Sonja found herself not wanting to get out of bed. She knew there was work still left to do on the house but she did not mind putting it off. She wondered if she could convince Raskolnikov to take the day off. They could spend time together with one another, getting to know the house and village and other surrounding territories as a couple. As she lay there, one of her arms draped over his chest and a nestle of blankets around their legs, she watched the sun pour in over his face. It was sunny already this morning and not a rain cloud in sight. It was a nice feeling to being able to walk outside and not find yourself soaking wet from rain.

The man slept a little longer and Sonja did not feel like waiting. She hated to wake him and frowned, looking over to the exit of the bedroom before deciding to get a head start. She did not necessarily want to clean or do repairs but she had something else in mind. On the way into the Amish village, there had been a field of dead and withering sunflowers. She imagined what it looked like in the spring and summer time, blossoming brightly as their lives depended on it. The woman loved sunflowers, there had been a similar meadow where she was from in Italy that she spent a good portion of her childhood. That was long gone and it was only luck that there was a field of the very same flowers at her disposal.

The woman carried the empty satchel over her shoulder, emerging from the woods that separated the village from the fields. The flowers were lightly dusted with a fresh blanket of snow that occurred over night. They were gray and brown in color, wilted with the changing of the seasons. Soon, they would fall into the earth and the new process would begin when it started to get warmer. She stood, her head above the flowers (they had already started to fall) and she used both hands to pick through the seeds. Some were rotted and missing but she managed to get about ten or fifteen still good seeds per bud and with each pick, she placed them in the bag. She would roast them later for her and her mate to pick at and it would be a nice idle treat to have over time when they had nothing else to do or just wanted to cure a little boredom.

All of this is on assuming what happens when Anatoliy meets his family again.

Back in mother Russia, Anatoliy had been expected to be an early riser to help with the chores, though his day did not start nearly as early as the fishermen or the women serving them breakfast; that had been far too early for him. No, this Russo rose after the sun was up, but far sooner than most of the adolescents without a job. Then it had been off to whatever little jobs needed to be done on the docks or in the compound. But now that the hybrid was living on an entirely different continent, it was not too much different now. The sun was up and in an hour or so the coyote-wolf mix was up to see it start soaring.

Now that the Russo had found his family and moved his temporary lodgings to the hotel where his father and sister, Rurik and Liliya, resided and his brother, Silas, occasionally visited. Feeling more secure than he had upon arriving, Anatoliy chose to take the chance to explore outside of Halifax, since it seemed that he would most likely not be leaving any time soon. Naturally, he would be sticking to the unclaimed lands as the earthen-hued male did not want to tempt fate by crossing some pack's borders. Just because he himself had not lived in one of those types of communities, it did not mean he knew the etiquette required around them. Besides, risking life and limb over such a trivial thing was not something on the top of Anatoliy's to-do list.

From what his father had told him, the Russo learned of a field of flowers that would be certain to brighten his day if he visited it during the summer season. But since there was little to really do in the city that day, Anatoliy chose to seek out this sunflower patch in hopes of finding it in the winter. Plus it would help to get to know the territory more, since getting back would be hard due to the fact he was wandering pretty far.

Anatoliy found the field, dead and decomposing, as well as a dark figure picking at the seeds, or what was left of them. That was when his words failed him, namely because he had so few of them to use in this kind of situation. He would probably have to learn English now, considering there were so few Russian-speakers on the continent for him to converse with that did not share his genes. "Здравствулте!" he greeted, out of habit. Then, pausing, he thought briefly. "Good Morning," corrected the Russo, his accent thick on his words.

Holy shit bananas.

Even after several flowers, pulling the seeds away, the satchel's weight did not change. The seeds were light weigh, easy to carry, and easy to prepare. It would be exciting to make and she hoped Raskolnikov would be happy for the treat she was going to prepare when she returned home. Sonja had no idea how many seeds to take home, the bottom of her bag was covered, and she decided to go on. The sun was bright this day and the snow added to the serenity of the scene. She could lingered on in the field for a while, imagining the flowers were a bright yellow instead of the depressing withering brown. It gave her something to look forward to and something to keep herself busy.

She heard a voice up ahead and it took a moment for her to realize it was Russian. At first, she imagined her husband having had followed her here but when she looked up, it was not. He corrected himself and her blue eyes stared. She did not imagine there would be many Russians. Rurik had informed them of some but the woman would not remember names. The Russian accent, especially in the Russian tongue, was hard to follow. "Здравствулте," she breathed, testing the word on her tongue. The greeting was one of the few words she knew and she smiled wide. She felt silly for even saying it because now she would be expected to say more.

Sonja lifted her hand and shook her head. "Ciao," she said in her natural thick Italian accent and smiled, her eyes bright with curiosity because she knew their language barrier was about to conflict.

Keep that thing in your drawer, gawd.

Anatoliy gave a look of surprise, wondering how lucky he could have been to have found someone who spoke his language. And so randomly too! He beamed, about to burst out into a chatter of Russian greetings and other useful phrases impaled upon young brains at an early age. But when the woman, whose accent he somehow had missed, did not follow up with any Russin, or English for that matter, the Russo paused with mouth agape a bit. He shut it, watching her with a slightly quizzical brow. Ciao was a word he did know, but only because his father had mentioned a few common greetings in some other languages. It had been in passing, but it was so common. Even others back home used it after passing some time together. But, was this woman saying good bye? Or hello? "Ah, ciao?" he said, accidentally tainting the words into a question.

"Is a good day, yes?" he tested, the English question falling off his tongue awkwardly with this thick accent. "Is good morning for flower finding," he continued, cursing inwardly at how barbarian his own voice sounded to him. Anatoliy knew this bilingual trick would be harder to master than his native tongue, though the pace at which he learned it was nice. However, for now, his sentences were haltering and not very long; basic really. "Why come you here?"

Sonja was thankful that he did not start going off in Russian with her looking at him with the worst expression on her face. Instead he settled for something neutral of these lands and she smiled even if he confused her. It took her a moment to register the words and her tail flicked, her hand reaching to clutch the strap of the satchel in response. "Si," she said with a smile and reached up to pluck a few more seeds from the bulb she had been messing with. "I make uhm... treat?" she asked and shrugged, but she was not sure.

"I take seeds," she said and lifted her hand to pluck a few more as if to be an example, if she said the wrong words, or he might not understand. She dropped them in the bag and still it felt no different. Her shoulder wiggled, bouncing the bag in order to test the weight. "Why you?" she asked, her blue eyes turning to him as she poked at a few more sunflower heads. Her finger flicked through and the older rotted seeds fell away, leaving the healthy ones for her to pick and add to her collection.

The hybrid watched the dark stranger pick more seeds from the head of the large flower. He was surprised there were still some good ones left. Most should have been picked clean by birds, though they must have flown south before the plants truly died and the seeds in their dark shells began to rot. Anatoliy did not have a real fondness for sunflower seeds, as they took so much effort to get out and then eat. It was a pitiful bounty at best and only a small pile of the gray things would give a full, rich flavor on the tongue. Better go for something bigger, like almonds or walnuts. Those had a lovely flavor, especially the walnuts when roasted. Or chestnuts! Oh those were divine.

Anatoliy nodded to the woman, smiling pleasantly and hopefully not looking as though he were a creepy stalker. He understood her words, though comprehension came slowly. "Why?" repeated the hybrid thickly, scratching at his chin in thought. Long sentences in the cursed foreign language were much harder than the already slow short ones. "I come to see. Father tell me it look pretty. But maybe not in winter when cold?" Cocking his head to the side, wondering where this woman was from."I -" he started, pointing to himself, just in case. "- am Anatoliy Russo. You are who? You stay here long?" It took him a long time to realize that he had meant to say "Have you been here in this land long?". Unfortunately, that moment came a bit too long after to really correct now.
