Just a fun, free-for-all pack hunt! Posting order will be decided once a few people join in, but feel free to hop in whenever! And, you get a Catacombs skullll~ *tempts* Elk? College kills me = short posts = faster thread? xD 300+ words. WotD: Inexorable (unable to be persuaded; firm).

As was usual for him, Vigilante had been keeping mostly to himself. The only really interesting thing that had happened as of late was the unexpected arrival of his apparent brother-in-law. The Constable really did not know how things were going to work out with Zafier here, but as long as he did not give Vigilante such condescending looks as he had on his first day here and as long as he did not try to tell Ayita what she should or should not do, then the doggish man expected that things would go smoothly from here on in. It was not that he actually expected problems, but the wolf had rubbed him in the wrong way when he had first arrived. There was really no way that he could change such feelings immediately, though, and he hoped time would mold their relationship into one that was more befitting for two men that had become indirectly related, one mate and one brother.

Travelling in the part of the territory that was not memorable (there was really not much around here), Vigilante stretched himself, wanting to make his secui form more limber. It was a fitting form for him to take, as it made him appear larger, and he was not a small dog to begin with. It also accented the muscles found in every form, and it generally gave him more strength. Though it was not his favorite diplomatic form, he did enjoy using this form to hunt. "That sounds like a good idea, actually," he mused aloud, nodding inexorably. He generally hunted alone and brought food home for Ayita, Amaranth, and Kable, but perhaps some company would be nice. Lifting his muzzle, Vigilante howled for the entire pack, welcoming any that wished to join him in a pack hunt.

ooc text!YAY Mara table. Enter the great hunter. cough cough.

She was once again out and about though she hadn't heard her mother lecture her about being out. Maybe she was realizing that you cant tame those who don't wish to be tamed. She was a free spirit like the eagle no one could tame him and no one can tame her. Running through the woods playing she was having a great time. She wondered what her brother was up too and how he was. He had stayed at their dads house the past few days and she didn't know why.

Looking around she was getting bored maybe she could go home and see if Vigi or her mom wanted to play. her ears pirked forward as she heard vigi's howl. Now she was no grand hunter but she could indeed help. Running towards his howl she smiled. She would play with Vigi and bring home mommy a huge deer. She'd do it all by herself. Though she didn't know how to catch a deer and it didn't really click that it was like 6 times her size depending on what the age was. She was to excited to think about details.

"I'm here I'm here. I can helps you Vigi." Amaranth called as she came to a hault right by him. "I caught one mouse already." Granted she didn't do that today. With a big grin on her face she turned mumbling to the dirt. "Even though40 got away." She returned her gaze to him her bright red and white tail wagging like it was on batteries.

The girl had been lounging lazily in the snow beneath a cluster of trees when she heard the call. Her white ears perked and twitched as the howl echoed over the lands; it was an open invitation, she could tell. Her eyes widened and a grin tightened her muzzle. It was just about the only thing, aside from perhaps Jac wandering by, that could get her to put down her book. But put it down, she did! A hunt? A real, live hunt? How exciting!

Orin had never been on a hunt before, but had read many thrilling tales about great huntsmen and women. Niro usually gathered the food, or the siblings had bartered for it while they were journeying north to this place, and had never really lived in an area rich enough with well prey worthy of hunting. A barrage of images flashed through her mind as every story she had ever read danced through her consciousness at once, and she dropped the book with a soft thud onto the snow and quickly untied her sheepskin cloak and did something she rarely ever did…

The shift from her Optime form to her Lupus body had been smooth, but not as fast as she would have liked. She was still young and did not shift often enough to execute the change with the speed and grace that most of the other pack members likely could. Though once her transformation was complete, she bounded to her paws and shook out her fur. She stretched, testing the taut muscles of this form, though of course the body was not alien to her, her wolf form being first nature. Satisfied with her slender, petite wolf body, she tossed her head into the air and called back, letting out a howl to let her new pack know she wanted to join – there was also an undertone of hope, hope that she hadn’t taken too long.

She pranced forward towards the howl, her keen nose working as she searched for Vigilante and any of the Cour des Miracles fellows who may have joined him. It wasn’t long before a sprig of pink could be seen through the bushes, and soon Orin burst through the brush and jerked to a stop before Vigilante and Amaranth. Though she was considerably older than the pup, her brimming excitement nearly met the cub’s own. Her tail lashed to and fro, and the hackles along her spine stood on edge with anticipation.

She had not yet met Vigilante or the little female pup, and dipped her head in a respectful, albeit animated, greeting to both. By now, word of the siblings’ arrival in Cour des Miracles had probably spread, and the pink-dyed bits of fur on her neck and tail were unmistakable. “Hello! I’m Orin,” she surveyed Vigilante, and was concerned for a moment that she had chosen the wrong form. Though even in Secui she would not be much more powerful, her slim body built for speed and stealth rather than strength and brawn. She did not see nor scent a kill, but still could not help but ask, “Am I too late?”

hi!

It was long and low, masculine in tone and yet not the voice of his King. That brightened him, though he would have answered if it was indeed Jac that looked for his presence, but the idea that it was not made the male more eager at the prospect of a meal. He shifted quickly, falling to the four paws that he felt most comfortable in for such an occasion. He had thought about riding in on his roan mare, her merle coat blazing, her dark eyes wild with energy. But it was not his style, nor was he practiced in the art of hunting on horse back, or in his Optime form as the tribe member Asha had been. Instead the coy-wolf undressed slowly, laying his jeans and shirt over a branch and then fell to the ground.

Once four paws came the male fallowed the call, nose working, eyes searching. It took him time, but the run loosened his joints, eased his muscles into the beginnings of activity. An unknown amount of time passed, and Heath found the caller. They were not quiet, and his ear picked up the noise of their speech and the male entered the small circle, Vigilante, a female and a pup. The golden eyed hybrid gave a small nod, nothing much else for a greeting, and stood among them ready for any instruction that was to be given. He tested the air, wandering in silence where they would find what would soon be their meal. Hopefully. Never had he hunted with such an interesting and diverse group, normally hunting on his own. It was nice to have a change, and perhaps a small challenge. He glanced at the youngest of the group, and let a small smile come to his lips. It would be interesting.

This should be an interesting hunt. xD Feel free to still jump in, if you want to! 300+ words.

The first bundle of fur that came to him was small, red, and white. Immediately, he knew that it was Amaranth, and he smiled down at her happily. Her presence would certainly make the hunt different than he had anticipated, as taking a pup on a hunt was not always profitable, but the experience would be good for her. "That is fantastic, Amaranth," he praised, choosing to pretend that he had not heard her admission that a very large number of them had gotten away. He had never had children of his own, so he was still learning how to take care of puppies properly, but he knew that encouragement was the best technique that he could use with the two young ones.

His attention was diverted to the next member, a white and shockingly pink girl, who seemed very young and excitable as well. Now, Vigilante was certain that this would be a very interesting hunt, indeed. Just as he was hoping that someone else would show up, as well, so that he would have someoe along that was more experienced, the Constable got his wish as Heath arrived silently. "Hello Heath," he said, addressing him with a nod. He had not seen him outside of a pack meeting in months, but he had enjoyed the male's company. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Orin. I am Vigilante Haskel, Constable of Cour des Miracles," he said, introducing himseld courtiously.

It seemed that, for now, this would be their ragtag group of hunters. Though he had initially been thinking of hunting down an elk, he realized now that this was not particularly a practical idea. A deer would probably be a good choice, then, for this group. "I'm glad you all came. There are deer out there," he said, indicating the wooded area he had situated himself by, "I am sure. I think that would be a good start?" he asked, looking for input on the idea.

Amaranth was happy to be spending time outside the house. Right now she was with Vigilante so mama couldn't be mad she'd be under the ever watchful eye of her step father. Though she didn't know what a step father was and she hadn't heard vigi proclaim he was one. She had hear mama talking about Vigi and being this step father thing. Maybe after this hunt she could ask him.

it wasn't to long before others had come to join the pair of muts. Heath who was Heath she had yet to really meet any of the pack members but that was all her mommy's fault keeping her inside that awful house. looking at heath she gave him a puppy smile. She hoped that she would be helpful on this hunt and she wouldn't get hurt.

Orin was a very pretty wolf and Amaranth found herself getting closer to the girl with pink fur in places. "Wow your hair is really cool." she said smiling as her tail wagged. "Vigi do you see this its so cool I wonder if mama would let me do this." She always got caught in the moment and found herself lost in the girls pinkness. She had never seen a wolf with Pink fur. She wondered if it was normal or dyes like they used to change fur color. Smiling at Orin she blurted out. "I'm sorry I forgot to mention I'm Amaranth."

Big Grin

He waited in relative silence. Eyes wandering over the faces of those that he had met and his mind growing curious about when they had joined and where they had come from. He could guess the youngest of the group was born within the ranks and borders, and she addressed their leader warmly. Yet Heath could not see the resemblance and pondered quietly what their relation was. It had been months and months since he and the other male had conversed, but the hybrid did not find current moment suitable for getting caught up. Perhaps another place and time, or as they gorged themselves on the kill they all yearned to capture.

Deer sounded fine. He had gained a taste for the elk of the Aniwaya tribe, but deer would fill his empty stomach just as heavily Dark nose tested the air, searching and finding a vaguest hint, if it was not his imagination let a wishful thinking roll through his head Heath was certain as Vigil. Eager to get his legs working, and for the taste of blood on his tongue Heath gave a nod, his voice coming forth for the first time since he had arrived. "Lets go." His voice was eager, yet he still held his controlled focus.

ooc... I sincerely apologize to you all for being a bit of a dead fish and holding things up here for so long!!

WC 505

She was so pleased to meet three fellow pack members that she could not stop the wagging of her tail for long, though she was able to contain it to a modest twitch back and forth. Somehow, she seemed to perk up even more when Vigilante introduced himself, that title particularly peaking her interest. Constable? The word summoned several impressions of what a constable had been in various stories, all quite similar yet often portrayed from a very different viewpoint. No matter, Orin knew what to make of Vigilante, for he was friend, not foe. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Constable.” She crooned, before the other male caught her attention.

This other, dark-furred fellow was a bit more puzzling since she could not fit him right into a category. She nodded politely, but he was peculiarly silent and reserved. He seemed to be in his own head and hadn’t even introduced himself, which Orin tried not to take personally – this was supposed to be a hunt, after all, and from what she knew, they were all business. Still, she found herself thankful for the distraction that was the little pup named Amaranth.

She looked at the pup and smiled welcomingly, noting as Amaranth inched closer and closer. “Thank you,” she accepted the compliment gracefully, though snickered a bit in amusement as she glanced between Vigilante and Amaranth. “As long as your momma says it’s okay, I’d be happy to teach you how. But we might need to wait until you’re a little older, it takes better in older fur. We can think of what color you want ‘til then.” She winked, assuming the traditional mother would probably not appreciate it if Orin went around making every pup think they could dye their fur any color of the rainbow, nor would like having to say no to a pup given too much hope.

“And did I hear something about mice? Wow, that’s more mice than I’ve ever caught. They’re too fast for me.” Judging by her small stature, not many creatures would be too fast for Orin, if she was trained. Whether or not she was just saying so to humor the pup, or if it was true, remained questionable. Either was likely.

She turned back to Vigilante, “Deer sounds perfect.” It was finally now that she wondered if she should tell them just how inexperienced she was with hunting in general. Most of her life prior to coming to Cour des Miracles consisted of scavenging for food in the slums; a task her brother Niro usually performed rather than herself. Still, how hard could it be? She had read a hundred-thousand tales of hunters, she had an idea as well as an instinct of how it should work!

She glanced briefly to the silent Heath, almost startled that he finally said something, though tried to hide her vein of thought. Nodding, she trotted forward but allowed the others to lead. She kept particular note of where Amaranth padded, feeling akin to the little sprite.

No need to apologize. :3 300+ words.

It was nice for him to see Amaranth taking to someone so keenly, as he knew she was a fiesty little girl and she had a few attitude issues with her mother after whatever had happened to her with the brown-furred wolf she had told them about. Vigilante did not know how pleased Ayita would be if Amarath were to dye her own fur, rather than simply marvel at Orin's, so he remained quiet, ears tuned acutely for the sounds of a herd. He was sure that there would be one nearby, and though he did not have any experience leading hunts and this was a very interesting group of hunters, he hoped that they would be successful. If they were not, Vigilante suspected that he would look rather foolish and inept as both a leader and a hunter, and none of that idea particularly appealled to him.

The large dog mutt took the lead of the group, as he had planned on doing from the moment of calling this spontaneous hunt, but it felt strange to be in the lead. Hunting was usually a solitary thing for him and always had been, though his sister had joined him on occassion. He looked over his shoulder at the group, hoping that Amaranth would be able to keep up, considering she was much smaller and younger, and more than likely less experienced, than the rest of them. Well, he supposed that they would see. Emerald eyes facing the front again, the Constable set off through the trees, knowing that the group would follow, and he hoped silently. It would not be beneficial in any way to make their entrance loud and boisterous. Black nose tested the air with every few steps that were taken until he caught a heavier scent, sending him (and he hoped the others) into a brisk run towards the destined kill, the herd of deer not far away now.

Amaranth wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen on this hunt. she had gotten herself preoccupied with the small conversation. "Ya your right mommy may not like that too much." She said as she turned her attention back to Vigi she was so happy to be here with him but what did the other two think. what did Vigi think would she be in the way? If they didn't get anything would it be her fault?

Once Vigilante was ready he was off. She figured she'd have to follow. The point of a hunt was to run? how fast? how far? What if there was no deer? Though she was almost sure that there had to be since the ever faithful leader was sniffing and had certainly picked up the pace. Amaranth hoped that her little legs could keep up with the rest she wasn't certain that she would be able to be she would try like heck. The question was no longer how far would they go she had come to realize it'd be far as the pace was picked up and she had fallen behind Vigi panting as she tried her best to keep up. If she did a good job and helped my vigi and mama would be proud. Maybe Vigi would want her to be his daughter. She wanted to please everyone she loved but didn't want to be pushed around so she always put up this tough girl act.

Heath followed, just as Vigil moved out and in to the trees. His tail twitched, his nose sniffled and he took in the trail that their leader had first found. The hybrid found it easily, and moved from the back of the pack to right behind the Constable. His face was all business, and though he found a certain enjoyment out of the hunt Heath did not let that come to his face.

Paw steps were silent, knowing that it would only be right if they could sneak up on the prey. Golden eyes watched, though his nose told him all that he truly needed to know. His sight was second to the powerful sense, and everything else fell behind that.

It did not take the pack long to find the small group of deer. It was towards winter’s end, and their numbers had dwindled because of the cold and lack of fresh vegetation. Yet ones that they found were not weak, but the lean and rough stock that would live through harsher winters then what they all had faced in these past months. Heath instinctively slowed, eyes watching their lead. He moved slight to the right, ready to stalk ahead for an ambush tactic.

OOC WC 368
WotD Valetudinarian - A weak or sickly person. Sickly; weak; infirm.

Without hesitation, she pursued Vigilante, finding her own place amongst their rag-tag group of hunters. Because of her inexperience, she happily let Heath slip past her and lead up behind Vigilante, but her excitement often had her light paws trodding happily up next to Heath’s side. Although she had no experience with group hunts, her instincts were strong and she did not fumble through the foliage as they made their way towards the strongest scents. Dainty paws glided over the floor, leaping rocks and logs with ease and dropping down on skilled, hushed landings. Despite her mounting enthusiasm for the hunt, she was also careful to glance over and ensure that their smaller ward was keeping up, although Vigilante seemed to be conscientious about little Amaranth, too.

A thrill buzzed through her when she realized they were no longer following dead scents; that Vigilante was leading them directly to live, succulent deer, those that were healthy and strong enough to survive the harsh winter they just had. All the valetudinarians would be gone, their first frost made quick work of them.

Since she arrived at the Court the quality of her dining had improved tremendously, far surpassing the meager and insubstantial rations that passed for meals in the southern region. Yet still, this would be her first opportunity to dine on a fresh, honest kill. . . if their hunt was successful. Oh lord, please let the hunt be successful! She looked at the others and wondered for a moment how many times they were willing to try if the deer slipped past them.

Exhilarated, she gave in to primal instinct and let the memories of her ancestors guide her in what to do as she moved and flowed as a unit with the other three. When they could finally spy the deer, a magnificent sight that even she did not have words for, she drew herself up at Vigilante’s flank, glancing over to Heath as he began to slink off. Nature told her what he was doing, but still in a nearly inaudible tone, as quietly as she could whisper, she asked Vigilante, “Is he going to chase one towards us? Where is the best vantage point?”

This is probably a good time to mention that in my 9 or 10 years of wolf RP experience... I've always sucked at hunts. xD; 300+ words.

The Constable led the small group, emerald eyes settling on the group of deer ahead of them as he slowed. Heath moved away slightly, and Vigilante nodded in his direction. With the two younger and less experienced members of their hunting party, such a tactic seemed the most prudent. He trusted that Heath would know to find a good candidate for them to take down, and he thought that his own presence with Amaranth and Orin would help to keep them at bay until it was time for them all to move in. He remembered when he and his sister had bee learning to hunt, and he knew that his sister had been very excited and a bit too boisterous. It seemed possible that Amaranth and Orin would be similar in the situation. They were young. It was basically expected of them, at least until they gained more experience.

Vigilanted nodded in response to Orin's question, ebony nails digging ever so lightly into the ground beneath his paws as he flexed them, itching for the moment that one of the deer would be separated from the herd. The Constable and his two young companions were not easily visible from where the herd was, and that was the best place for them to be. "When he picks one off of the herd and urges them away from the rest, then we will move in," he instructed them through his teeth, voice so low that it was hardly more than a whisper. He did not want to alert the herd as to the presence of the canines. If the herd knew that they were there before the right moment, then they would run and there was a large chance that the Miracles canines would still be hungry later on. He wanted it to be a successful hunt.

Amaranth was completely confused on what they were doing now. When you hunted didn't you chase the thing you were going after. She was very excited being with others who could teach her everything she needed to know. She wanted to prove to Her step father that she could do it and be helpful but she wasn't sure how.

Amaranth was young and wasn't very big at all she could probably get stped by what ever they were going after. "Vigi I wanna help what can I do Im bored I don't want to wait. " Amaranth said with a huge smile on her face. She really really wanted to help him. She looked at the ground. She wanted to see what heath was doing she wanted to know if he had found food. The more she was out here the hungrier she was getting.

Sticking her head out through a bush she smiled. They looked good enough to eat. She wondered if they even knew they were around. "Prey is so stupid." She said watching them with hungry eyes.
