Anathema

Word Count :: 366 Sorry it took so long to get this up!.

Leilah laid down on her back, leaving her semi-hairless tummy to the warm sun. Every time she felt a breeze wisp by she shuddered slightly, but it was worth it. Her dark lavender eyes were watching the sky, trained on a large cloud that was slowly moving across the sky. This particular cloud had drawn her attention due to its' large six and peculiar, yet familiar shape. It reminded her of something she had seen before.. The pup cocked her head, giving her a light grass stain on her dark chocolate fur. "Oh! A.. A horse!" Upon saying this word, she realized this also matched with the description of the Angela's four hoofed beast. One of the members of her former back, who was known to tell tall tales, had spoke of encountering one once before. "Smithy wasn't lying!" She wiggled on her back until she rolled onto one of her sides. She sat up, pleased with herself for putting all these things together.

When she looked back up at the sky after enjoying a few seconds satisfaction with herself, the cloud was on the move. She was tempted to shout up to it and ask it to stop, but she knew that it wouldn't understand her. Le sighed, then tried to scope out something else to do. She had just napped earlier and she was just about bubbling over with energy. After spending a bit of time chasing her tail and pouncing around, she decided to return back to the caves.

They still frightened her a bit, that she could admit. Whether it was the plop of water on the cavern's floor which felt like it would echo throughout the entire place, or the fear of everything caving in around her. She took a deep breath before entering the gaping hole that was used as the entrance. She had went through the most Eastern entrance, and took the path that lead straight to the common room. She focused on the soft slap of her paws as she took each step. When she stopped, she was faced with a choice of openings. She turned into the one nearest to her, which lead to the pack storage unit.

Pride dug through the storage. She knew they had some more up to date maps hidden in there somewhere. The ones that she'd used to keep were out dated, and it was a nuisance to refer to places on the map that had been washed out by the storm, or find herself puzzled looking at places that weren't marked down. It wasn't like she needed the maps. Born there Pride was a living map of sorts, able to figure out where she was and head to where she wanted to go from any place. It didn't make the fact that her maps were useless any less annoying.

The soft padding of steps drew her attention. They weren't that of an adult being quite, more of a youth that was moving pretty quickly. Sticking her head out she watched the pup chug along, a look of business in her eyes. Amused Pride spoke. Where are you going little demon? Her white eyes probed over the tiny body. The pup seemed pretty cheerful, if a might uncomfortable. She must be new.

She hadn't been to this room before.. Actually, she really hadn't been to many places yet. She had only been here a few days, but it still saddened her that she had not explored more! "Maybe tomorrow I'll go some where.." So far, she seemed to have a lot of freedom in her new home. She liked Charm and Aeron, but Kai was still her favorite. The black wolf had reminded her a lot of herself.. Just older and more aware of the darkness that was within him. It seemed mostly dormant at the time that they had met. Which was good, since she wasn't sure she would have stuck around to even meet the alpha otherwise. He was the first canine she had encountered outside of her pack, and she had used the way he acted as a standard for how others she met would probably act. At the moment, she felt like, maybe, her family had just been horribly exaggerating about there being 'bad' people out there. "Maybe they're all nice!" Oh, how wrong she was.

Leilah's head snapped up to meet the woman's gaze. Now that her orbs were no longer set on her feet, she had a chance to take in her surroundings. It wasn't very bright in here. She didn't have very good night vision, whether it was because she was a dog and not a wolf, she didn't know. Most of the time it didn't really matter. She went to sleep quite early, and had not yet had a chance to wander around after dark. The dog took a few steps forward, eying the woman. If she knew what an angel was, she would have thought that this woman was glowing like one against their dark surroundings. She was in her optime form, as most of the wolves here seemed to prefer. Her white coat was almost completely colourless other than the streaks in her hair, on her muzzle, and coating the tips of her ears. Leilah had never seen someone with fur such a beautiful color!

Le ignored the woman's question at first due to her spotting something on the near the side of the room. It was a crystal. It was hard to be sure whether it was stock, or if it had just fallen off one of the walls. She had often spotted these pretty objects, but normally they were at least halfway submerged in the cave sidings. After trotting over to where these these shining gems were located, she stepped out of her bag. Next, she carefully plopped each of the crystals in one by one. When she finished, there were about five within the satchel. Now focusing on the question, she responded nonchalantly"I couldn't find anything to kill," She walked closer to the woman, looking up at her with big, round eyes. "What are you looking for?"

The pup's large lavender eyes lifted up, staring at Pride. She didn't consider herself that much of an oddity. So many of the canines in Anathema bore their own unique markings and scars. The variety of colors and species was broad as well. While Pride held herself tall for her species, she had grown up with enough of a mix to not take in any single appearance as particularly strange. Pride stared back at the pup, noting the golden nose ring. Who would have put such a thing in the pup? It was odd jewelry for someone so young, if she was typical in every other way.

Turning Pride tracked the pup as she trotted across and stuffed some loose crystals into the bag. She didn't comment on it, as she didn't know if it belonged to anyone and didn't care either way. The pup's answer brought slight laughter from her. You won't find much to kill in these caves. They know a pack lives down here. You have to go outside to find anything to hunt. Her eyes flicked over the scrolls again, wondering if the maps she was looking for was in that particular style. I need new maps. The storm changed a lot of the structure. The old ones are useless.

She could feel the woman's eyes studying her. Suddenly, she felt overwhelming shamed. This coyote was perfect. Her appearance was so unique compared to her own, blander, coat. Whether her fur had been dyed, or she was simply born this way, Le could not tell. But either way, she was just as lovely. The wolfdog stepped back some, adverting her attention to the dusty shelf. No longer could she stand the uneven comparison-- It was like comparing a beautifully decorated cupcake to a plain muffin. In order to avoid making Pride feel as though she had offended her in some way, she simply moved on. "I wasn't looking in the caves. Outside, am not stupid." She rolled her lavender eyes. It was more in a playful manner than a disrespectful one.. She didn't feel as though being on her bad side would be a very good idea.

"I remember the storm. Mama called it something with an H.. It was real scary." She remembered the smell in the air, before the bad weather even really started. The clouds were dark and gloomy, then before she knew it they were upon them like a cat pouncing upon a helpless mouse. She directed her eyes in the same direction as this albino female had, trying to locate exactly what she was looking at. "You mean.. You are going to get rid of them?" It seemed like a dumb question, even to her. But she felt like she had to ask. Just because something was 'useless' didn't always mean that the given person was looking to get rid of it. Some times, she had noticed, people kept things around for the sole reason of holding on to a memory. This she couldn't exactly understand. She was always looking for new things to add to her collection, but in her mind, these things would help her in the near future. Whether she would be trading them away, or putting it to use herself.

She felt an overwhelming cupidity to get her hands on these maps. She hadn't the ability to read, but drawings she could understand. These maps, even if not completely accurate anymore, could help her keep from getting lost. Sure, some of the landmarks had changed. But she could still probably get an approimate idea of where she was from these charts of geographical areas, right? "Can I have them? If you don't want them anymore? I can help you with something. Help yous find new ones, maybe?"
