[MaMa] Heavy Dose of Atmosphere

Daybreak had reached its peak, making the autumn air hot and unbearable to the arctic female. Sunlight filtered through the forest leaves, heating the shaded forest. Fall had just begun to grip the world, but summer still refused to release its wrought iron grasp. Cicada's called out to each other loudly, drowning out almost all other sounds in their incessant drone. Several birds still chirped merrily in the trees, singing their last songs of the year before making the journey south. Many trees had begun to blossom red and gold as their leaves became brittle and started to change.

Kiara lay still upon the cool moss beneath a large tree, its long branches providing some relief from the heat as she rested. Sapphire eyes stared unseeing at the world behind half-closed lids, and a single ear twitched as a grasshopper landed atop the sensitive appendage. It was as if the world had forgotten the huntress and all the danger she possessed to it. For now, she was an immovable body of soft fur, listless in the heat. Soft pants emerged as her exposed belly moved gently up and down. But other than her breathing, the alabaster female lay completely still.

Despite her lack of motion, Kiara wasn't asleep. How could she be? Her mind worked, reviewing every event that had brought her to the forest. She had abandoned her pack, her only daughter, her best friend, for a creature that was even close to her in species. There were times when even Kiara couldn't believe what she had done, and the insanity that had taken her away from everything she held dear. As an unshifted wolf, and one immune to the luperci virus no less, Kiara had a different standard of living from most canines. She didn't cook her meat or live in a house. To not live with the safety and comfort of a pack was close to being unthinkable. yet, she had dropped everything to follow after the male who had captured her attention and won over her feral heart; Toby. But in recent days, Kiara had begun to wonder if her decision had been wrong. What if she had made a terrible and irreversible mistake?

OOC – Oh, dear lord! I hope this is okay!! He's in lupus form ;x

IC –

She'd left for him. For the monstrous being that continually found confusion in every day life. Every thing he thought about was a merge of what Fang would have said and what Toby would have felt. There was a mass of chaos that ran through Toby's brain and he was in dire need of straightening life out once and for all. The only thing he was for sure about now was her. Kiara was his sweet, sweet angel amongst all the skeletons that stalked him everywhere he went. She was the reason he had continued breathing after the melt down she'd caught him in when they had met.

It had been a day in August, when everything was positively beautiful except for the dying lives that flickered in a circle around the hound's feet. He had been exhausted; all the effort he'd put into becoming a good person finally wearing him down. It was she who had appeared when he had made the desperate call for salvation to whomever was listening up above. Whether the deity he'd convinced himself to talk to had answered or not, Toby had been amazed at the breath taking appearance of her gleaming, white fur in the meadow. Ever since her assistance on the wound in his heart and mind, he'd never been away from her long.

Now she'd become his within a split-second decision for her to come away with him. She'd abandoned all that she'd known for the two headed demon that talked to himself and swore at his own actions. As she lay where he'd left her to go hunting for their lunch, he'd pondered just how terrible of a decision he had allowed her to make. Successful in his hunting, he forced the thoughts from his mind and made his way back toward his new found mate.

"Hey," he said through a mouthful of meat before depositing the carcass beside her. In the heat of the day, an arctic animal was sure to be miserable and drenched in sweat. His head dipped down and he gently brushed his tongue on her forehead as if to reassure her that the sun wouldn't kill his angel. As he plopped down beside her, he left enough room for an occasional breeze to ease her suffering and reached for a hunk of fresh kill. "I'm sorry about the heat... We really should go for a visit to a lake or beach..."

He attempted to be casual, but the belief that she might of wronged herself for him was still fresh in his mind. Considering that she seemed to be annoyed by the sun, Toby wouldn't take any given opportunity to bring the subject up. Instead, he'd let her rest in his loving company and pray that she'd been smart.

Kiara wasn't sure why she felt so draw to Toby. It was clear that he was unstable and the presence of his alternate, Fang, should have been terrifying. Kiara knew just how bad some luperci could be, the numerous scars that littered her body were a physical testimony and constant reminder to that. Yet, he needed her. She had found him, lost and confused like a puppy in need of caring. There was no way Kaira could have ignored him. Her action's defied logic, but it was the only explanation Kiara could give to herself and to the daughter that she had abandoned.

The sound of footsteps caught Kiara's attention and her ear flicked as she quickly sampled the air. Toby was returning from a successful hunt. As if a spell had been cast, her fears began to fly away, growing lighter with each one of his steps. Kiara lifted her head slightly and whined a greeting, her tail moving slightly across the ground. The scent of fresh meat rose up to meet her like a ton of bricks, filling her nostrils and making her mouth drool. She glanced at the carcass, her eyes blazing as a sudden sense of hunger set in. However, the gnawing in her belly was just as soon forgotten when Toby leaned down to kiss her forehead. Kiara returned his affection with a few quick licks under the male's chin. Hey. Welcome back.

Toby was quick to join Kiara in the shade, his body sitting close but no so much that it would stifle her. Leaning over slightly, Kiara nestled her large head into his fur, letting his dark fur mix and meld with her near albino coloring. It's not your fault. I'm just not good with summer. At least worst had past and fall is on its way. Just to make her point clearer, Kiara rolled over and let her back run along Toby's side. Her tail moved lethargically across the ground, sweeping over the moss and catching stray twigs and tiny leaves. For just a moment, Kiara could forget her troubles as the world seemed to fall into place in all the right ways.

Toby understood how hot the fae must of been. Being a black dog didn't exactly help him in the heat either. At the feeling of her kisses he smiled and his mind canceled out all of the problems he'd been thinking of. How was it that he could tell his sweet mate to go away when, after all, he loved her too much to lose her? Instead of bringing up his worries from before, he sat down and listened to her speak into his fur. Her touch soothed him and his tail swished the ground cover it lay upon.

"I suppose we should look forward to the winter," he began to say. His following statement was cut off as she rolled into him. Feeling a sense of play stir within him at the motion, Toby nipped repeatedly in areas of her neck and back in an effort to tickle her. As he retreated from his attacks his tongue fell out the side of his mouth and he smiled down at her. "I love you, Kiara."

Kiara held little tolerance for the heat. As an arctic wolf, she was built to withstand the extreme cold and like it. Not to mention that the valley that her birth pack had resided in never became so hot. The summers were warm, but in an almost pleasant sort of way, especially when compared to the temperatures in Nova Scotia. How could it be so hot? At least she wasn't the only one suffering. Toby's dark fur probably made the heat just as unbearable for him.

Toby's words brought a large smile to the female's face. Of course! There will be lots of snow and we will get to eat more. More play and more hunting. Kiara's sapphire eyes sparkled as she spoke of the winter. She looked forward to going on hunting trips with Toby and couldn't wait to show off her abilities. As a non-shifter, there wasn't much she could to impress Toby. But her skills in hunting large prey were top notch. To make things even more exciting, the mating season occurred during the winter. Kiara and Toby could create their own pack, as fully fledged mates. When that happened, perhaps her restless thoughts would be at ease.

Playful nips descended onto Kiara's back and neck, causing her to squirm as she attempted to surprises her laughter. Her back legs kicked against the dirt, causing it to rise up in a soft cloud and turn her legs into a tawny color. Not one to back down from a challenge, Kiara contorted her neck, twisting her head so that she could get a few shots at his ear. An eager grin stretched across her face as she tried to nip at the black male's ears and muzzle.

When Toby retreated, Kiara ceased her own attacks and watched her mate contently. His words made her feel comfortable and let her doubts vanish out of existence. She had made her choice and would live with the consequences. Choosing a strong mate was a reasonable thing and if Kiara wanted to start a family with him, New Dawn was not the place to do it. Although she felt bad about leaving Lucia behind, it was the way of non-shifters. Hopefully, her daughter would understand and forgive her. Kiara licked Toby's muzzle and rubbed her own muzzle affectionately against his neck. I love you too.
