[MaMa] The Little Carving
#1
He loved her. There was something about her that was just irresistible. Her fragile body, her quiet words or the tan color of her pelt that was so different than his own. Or perhaps it was the life that was growing inside her, their life combined to create something beautiful. Whenever he thought about he smiled and he just grinned until his cheeks hurt. Helios had never been so happy. The stout Australian Shepherd lived each day better than the first with her. He felt whole, the whole that his parents left was gone when she was around. Now, they would be parents and he would never let them know the pain that he had felt, they wouldn't be outcast from their home and forced to live alone.

Helios hummed gently, leaning back on a tree that had their names carved into the bark. His dark fingers traced the engraved letters, remembering the lazy summer day that they had put them their. They had come to the secluded clearing several times and relaxed in the sunlight and gazed up at the clouds. It was a place of peace and beauty that inspired Helios to compose his most beautiful carvings. When he was alone, he would hum a song in his baritone voice and whittle away at a piece of wood. Though summer had passed and the chill of fall had set in, he still thought the clearing was beautiful. If anything, autumn made it ever more so with the ethereal feeling of change in the brittle branches.

He had been so inspired that cupped in his had was a little carving. The little piece of art was intricately carved and looked very delicate, as if it was going to break in his hands, even though he was holding it tenderly. It was going to be a gift for Sira, a carving of a little canine part jackel and part dog. Helios' odd eyes looked down on it affectionately, he hoped that she would love it as much as he did.

Sira was glowing. Never in her life did she ever expect to have THIS! Her mother kept her pretty much locked away, only showing her what to kill and eat and that was it. She knew nothing after that. Once she escaped things became better and once she met Helios it seemed to all fit together. He taught her many things since he found her. Even though she thought she learned most of it, he taught her there was so much more, now here she was his mate and bearing his children..... their children. The thought made her hug her midsection as she moved to look for the man she loved.

She found him by their tree and she giggled, and silently and stealthily moved around it to get behind the tree, of course the wind was not in her favor but that was ok she really wasn't there to spy on him. She just wanted to have a little fun. Mischief was her game, and she was always playing. She hurried behind the tree, then guessing where he was, peered around it, so that just her head showed. Her large ears perked up, the necklace around her neck with the sun that an aquiantance had given her for one reason or another, dangled off her neck and she gave him a sly smile. She was about to start a game when she saw he had something in his hands. She looked down but it was cupped and hidden from view on this side. She tilted her head to get a better look; "Lunch?" She asked teasingly, she learned early on that dogs and wolves didn't tend to eat the same things she did, though she was a carnivore she was not picky about the kind of things she ate, like bugs, though others balked at her. She really was curious as to what was in his hands though and made to see putting her hand on his finger tips and looking at him curiously.

Sorry for the long wait!

Smiling broadly, he brought himself close to her, eyes warm at simply the sight of her. He couldn't imagine being with anyone else. They would be a family together and he was content and happy where he was. He didn't feel trapped or edgy with her, his energy was there but under control. The warmth and calmness in his eyes showed it all. Helios would stare into her eyes for an eternity if the world allowed him that, but alas he had to content with the limitations of realism. Noting her curiosity, he draw his hands close to his chest and rested them on his heart. He could feel the delicate carving work on his palms and bowed his eyes for a moment.

"First, I want to give you something that comes from my heart," he pressed his cupped hands against his chest for a moment, feeling their pressure then drawing away. Moving from himself, he put his cupped hands where her heart was. "I'm giving it to your heart. So that it will become part of our heart." He drew it downward to her abdomen and paused there. Smiling he brought up his hands once again, feeling a little sappy over his demonstration to her. Opening them, he revealed the little carving to her, content with its appearance and the love he had put into every stroke of the knife. He hope she could see it. It was not often that he gifted his own artwork, as he normally left them where he carved them and let nature due its own thing to the piece. But the carving he had made was for them, not for nature, it was theirs, together as one.

His calmness made her calm down herself and she sat down where she was, her hands slid off his as he pulled what he had closer to his heart. Her head tilted, an ear left to dangle down, the other perked to listen to what he had to say. Her eyes went between his hand and his face and back. This continued as he spoke. Just his words were moving as he brought his hands to her heart, she felt the item touch her breast as he placed it against the spot where her heart was. She smiled brightly now her eyes watering a little for what she thought was no reason.

He opened his hands and in his palm was a little carving, a carving of them put together. As though he were imagining what one of their puppies was going to look like. Sira put a hand on her mouth, her over emotional hormones making this a more moving situation than it seemed, but she looked at her mate a broad grin; "Oh Helios, this is beautiful. It must have taken so long!" She said, she could see he put as much detail in it as she could and she picked it up delicately in her own hands and help it in her palms, but held it over his hands for a second then held it close to her as though trying to keep it warm and she leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. "Now I wish I had something for you." she said almost apologetically, not knowing if she should have but was determined she would find something she could make for him like he did her, though it would take days to do it but with the puppies coming she was going to have time until they did.
